Wifi connection walk thru

I bought the more expensive wifi and 3G model iPad and not once have I been able to log in using wifi. Obviously I am doing something wrong. Can someone please link me to basic how to do this, I have sat in hotel rooms following steps, I have followed friends advice no luck. I need to know it works.

Had ISP provider here multiple times. They switched out the router/modem on 4 occasions. They ran new fiber optic cables to my house. They sent a PC tech here with a Mac, and he was able to get a strong wireless connection, but mine, he said, was "weak."
I called Apple support. They had me remove the battery and clear the PRAM. It didn't help.
There's no point in having a wireless connection if I cannot walk 20 feet away from the router without losing the connection.
Do I need a new Airport Extreme card?
How much would it cost to get one, and what is the process of getting it installed? (no longer under warranty)

My ISP replaced my router FOUR times. I don't think that's the problem.
We already tried chanign the channel multiple times, channels 1, 6, 11 and even 9 and 4

WiFi Connections thru another Mac

I apologize in advance if this is a very simplistic question. I have a 6 node home network, all wired with CAT5 for 4 mac's and 2 windows PCs. I discovered recently that my Mac Mini has a wifi antenna built in and I can now have some of my laptops connect to the network thru wifi, and I do this as well with my iphone 3G. No worries.
But consider my network topology for a second. Everything is wired, except that wifi is made possible with my Mac Mini, which is also wired to my network but has its own wifi service for other devices. So here's the question. When I try to sync iphone apps with my MacPro thru wifi, they don't see each other (I'm talking specifically about two iphone apps that sync to Mac apps, 1Password and MacFamilyTree). Is this because the wifi is only connected to the Mac Mini, and doesn't let wifi connected devices see my Mac Pro? Do I have a network config problem or am I thinking about this wrong?
Any advise is really appreciated!

I too have a wired network in my home. Usually, I leave the Airport off, but curiosity got the better of me and I had to try to recreate your situation. My network lives in the 10.1.1.x IP range. I enabled Airport on one of my machines and set it to share the internet connection from ethernet to Airport (mimicking your Mac Mini). I then enabled Airport on a second machine (representing the iPhone) and connected to the Airport network created by the first machine. I looked at the IP address of the Airport connection on the second machine and found it to be in the 10.1.2.x range. As I suspected, the Mac Mini is acting as a router/wireless access point and is performing NAT between the 10.1.1.x and 10.1.2.x networks. Your iPhone can probably see your MacPro, but your MacPro cannot likely see your iPhone in much the same way that a computer from the internet (hopefully) cannot see past your router (firewall) into your home network.
You may want to try using your MacPro as the wireless access point instead of the Mac Mini. The iPhone may be able to sync to the Pro in this situation, however, I fear you'll run in to much the same problem.

Is it possible to make a call thru a wifi connection?( ie. no cell signal is available)

I've long wanted to switch to the Iphone but I sometimes need to go to some locations where AT&T nor verizon nor sprint have cell signals and the only way to make a call is by tethering to the wifi connection. This is possible with my tmobile phone but havent succeeded when trying to use an iphone. Is there a way to make this work?

You need a special phone which allows wifi calling.
The iPhone does not have this option.
You can get a micro-cell device, which plugs into your network internet and is basically a mini cell phone tower. It will work with regular cell phones (includiing iPhone).

Yes tried resetting the wifi connection and problem still persist.
Here it is...to make it clear. Connected thru the same wifi at home...
-> emails (yahoo/gmail) and facebook WEBSITES are working fine and fast when using/accessing thru a browser (chrome/samsung browser) - no problem with this.
-> emails (yahoo/gmail) and facebook APP is soooooo sloooww (thru the App). Slow I mean comparing it to using their browser/websites... news feeds/emails refreshing so quickly but not when using the APP installed in Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Slow like - It will take around 5-10minutes just to get your emails and news feed refreshed.
THIS HAPPENS ONLY WHEN CONNECTED THRU A WIFI which has a speed of 10-20mb. It is not happening when connected to the network data/plan.
My wife has the same Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (coming from different provider at&t) - same setup (emails, fb app), same wifi connection, but she's not experiencing anything like it.
Not sure why, I dont want to believe that while connected to a WIFI, Verizon is restricting anything and ******* me off to make me switch to my data plan connection everytime - which is Unfair!
Was there a known issue similar about this case?

Samsung Galaxy s4 only works with wifi connection. No mobile connection available?

I can't connect to the internet unless it's thru a wifi connection. Just started having this problem yesterday, 10/19/2014.

There could be an outage in your area. One thing you could try is resetting your SIM card, i.e., turn off the phone, remove the SIM card (be careful not to touch the gold contacts), wait a minute or two, then reinsert the SIM card, turn the phone back on, and allow it time to establish a fresh network connection.

Wifi connection fluctuant

My MacBook has a problem connecting to my router. When I'm very close to the router I've a perfect signal strength. As soon as I walk around the corner into the next room (door is open!) the connection is lost. After 10 meters (I have visual contact to the router) the wifi connection is broken. The MacBook doesn't even find hotspots in the neighbourhood. The strange thing is, that it sometimes finds several other hotspots in the neighbourhood including mine. Then I can connect to my router though I'm upstairs with a good signal strength. Suddenly the signal strenth goes up and down an the connection is lost again. The hotspots in the neighbourhood are gone, too.
I changed the encryption from WPA to no encryption.
I changed the channel several times.
I deleted all my preferred networks, restarted, then I added my wifi connection.
Nothing helps! With my iPhone I have wifi connection in my whole flat....
Any ideas?

I tried that without any success. Then I reinstalled Tiger and everything worked fine again! Wifi access where it never worked, the MacBook also discovered some hotspots in the neighbourhood.... After that I put my Macbook in standby mode, when I reopened the lid no networks were in range...
I can only connect to my network when I'm close to my router (maximum 5 meters).

Nokia Lumia 521 - WiFi connected, but no internet ...

I have a brand new Lumia 521 on T-Mobile. I set up the wifi connection and it shows connected. However, there is no internet connection. Cannot download any app or anything.
Trouble Shooting: Rebooted the phone couple of times. Turned on/off wifi. delete/re-connect wifi.
Reboot wireless router couple of times.
Turned off the data service on my phone and only wifi is on now. Checked my router that there is an entery for my Windows Phone, but could not get any logs.
Nothing helped so far...
Loaded my sim with funds, thinking if something no fund is blocking it somewhere :-D
Everything is fine on my other smartphones.

At least you have 8.1. Those of us with 521 not updated yet, no real answers. Someone at Nokia going to close thread cuz no one posting. What to post, you should've been a politician with the no answer answer. Whole experience makes me rethink Microsoft and Nokia altogether. Both companies I used to believe in and support. Even word and excel don't sync well from phone to desktop. Backup for what? Only if you reset phone. That is backup even DOS using command lines would have been ashamed of (honestly so long ago don't remember if it had backup but I know my 386SX did) Pictures duplicate, triplicate and repopulate after deleted and I have backup to cloud turned off. seems Microsoft thinks differently than I about this issue? It continues to bring back a pic of EX that i hate...Great reminder!!!!. Phone storage eaten and not accessible to delete. Not allowed to delete certain apps that came with phone. Now I delete apps I prefer and no space becomes available? Do not use Nokia cinemagraph. Can't be viewed anywhere but on phone without converting. And what phone/camera has no flash? My parents old 110 (I think) at least had a cube. Poloroid built in...just saying that was the early 80s. Now lock screen and theme (ugly muted colors, btw) not working, can't get space back even when hooked to desktop, use cloud 6 now to keep phone and cloud from changing between app and desktop, have to convert all Nokia files, and most apps not available from what I can gather because Microsoft limits us. Nokia and Microsoft, get your acts together before marketing with one another. And, have answers to these questions. If you can't do it right, don't do it all. Maybe best to walk away from one another. Although, other than poor apps and flimsy phone, I am more disappointed in a guru conglomerate that doesn't care about the user. You keep trying to catch up with Mac and Droid...not at this rate. Excel fave program to use and love outlook. But this is crap on a stick, SOS and plain junk. And, the mighty do fall. I remember original Apple having market, commodore 64 and Tandy? Two of the three no longer exist. IBM was a typewriter back then, as far as I was aware. Because the retina 15 only has a wifi connection (no ethernet), that's the connection I'm stuck with for the notebook. But on the 27iMac, I did have both ethernet and wifi enabled. When I turned the wifi off on the 27, therer was a brief moment when both computers were showing their counterparts when I tried to make a network connection. BUT, after a few seconds of 'searching', the computer I was trying to connect to disappeared from the Network list.
So I tried the opposite; the retina can only connect thru wifi, so that's a given. I swithched my ethernet off and then enabed the wifi on the 27 and ....same thing: When I try a network connection, there are a few seconds of 'searching', then the ony option I'm left with is share screen, which doesn't work either.
I've read the 'dropped' network is a problem with the retina, but the odd thing is that I never lose my internet connection—that continues to work fine, as does Air Drop—but I can't seem to connect, network-wise.
Any ideas about the dropped network?

I have been on the phone for Apple since 5:30 Eastern Time today. We are still on the phone with them. It is 10:14 PM. We are going to get a new phone because the ios6 has major problems! The wifi connectivity is a serious problem. Apple is aware of it. More people need to do something about it. I am willing to start a class action suit against them. I have means to an attorney pro bono. If you are having problems using your iphone 4 or 4s with wifi and ios6...I suggest you spend time calling a senior advisor and get a new phone sent to you. They know they messed up but they can't fix it.

Why did wifi connect faster on Snow Leopard than any Lion?

This has bothered me since upgrading to Lion and then hoping Mountain Lion would fix it.
When I open the lid on the air (or any macbook) it takes about 10 seconds for wireless to connect. If I take any of the same computers (macbook pro from 2010, air 2011, air 2012, macbook pro 2012) and install Snow Leopard on them, when I lift the lid from sleep, wireless is nearly instantly available.
I work in an IT department in an academic library so I have access to a lot of machines. So I've been trying this a lot lately since the computers I deploy to the public are now all on Snow Leopard after receiving many complaints about the wireless connections.
Granted I live with it on my machine, 10 seconds is plenty fast. But I find it annoying, it's like a step backwards. It used to be fast, now it is slow. I don't find the wait to be acceptable given that Apple proved in older operating systems that near instant wireless was possible.
Is there some way to alter the settings to make wifi connect quicker? I've done all the obvious, my mac address is registered with the networks, my preferred network is the only one in the list, I use a static IP. I guess what I want is for the wifi to never sleep, this is what Dell does on their XPS machines which ironically was designed from a group that used macbook airs running snow leopard in an effort to make wireless instantly avaialble for windows/linux.

I just performed another test. Two identical (serial numbers 1 apart) iMac. These are units I release for public use in a kiosk mode. They are scheduled to sleep during the hours the library is closed. I deployed one with snow leopard and one with mountain lion last week, so far I've received 6 reports that the mountain lion machine can't connect to the internet but when someone assists, it connects. I'm guessing that they walked up, clicked a link and it didn't respond so they asked for help and when the person walked over (takes about 20 seconds to walk to/from the help desk) the machine connected.
Both machines have identical network settings and use wireless where the WAP is literally 6 feet above the machines. So this morning I upgraded the snow leopard machine to mountain lion, and added a third snow leopard machine to the space. I suspect I will start getting complaints on the two lions but never on the leopard.

Seeing wifi connection, not connecting

My powerbook g4 has been having problems connecting to our linksys wireless network. the other laptop on the wireless is connecting fine. My computer has full wifi connection (bands all activated) and under network status has green for go and claims to be connected but will not load anything/connect. I've read thru several helps and threads to no avail. I've tried resetting airport the network port configurations to the first choice, resetting the dhcp under tcp/ip manually and by renewing the lisence. I am still getting an IP beginning with 192 and no connection.
also will not connect using the LAN line from the router itself.
any ideas?

I have no problem connecting an iPad and an iPod Touch to the MiFi 2200.
Do you have it connected to a PC via USB? That turns off the WiFi radio.

IPAD 3 & dropping WiFi connections ( on 2 new iPADs)

So I bought a new iPAD 3 about 4 weeks back and everytime I stream or watch a video or browse the connection would drop. Netflix would complain of no internet connection. I then immediately try to go a news website on Safari and it also complains of internet connectivity. I have tried all options available including reseting / forgeting my wifi connection at home. Note that my MBP, desktop, iPOD, iPHONE, Windows laptop all have internet connectivity at same time but not my iPAD. So this issues doesn't seem to be a router issue. I went to Glendale CA store and they issued me a new iPAD. Guess what..I have been using it for past 2 days and the same wifi issues exist on it too. Now I am frustrated ...anyone in same boat and what would you recommend?

I came back with one of the worst visits to the Genius bar today. I don't even know why these guys are called geniuses. So I walk and wait a pathetic 50 minutes past my appointment time and the genius shows up. I explain the problem to him and he takes it inside the dark room for 10 minutes. Comes back and says he is not able to recreate the problem. He said the wifi in Apple store is build for Apple devices and thats why its possible the iPAD is showing no connectivity issues. *** !! The wifi is build for Apple devices? what does that even mean? I have been in IT / software development for 20 years and I know what WIFI is. He said he cannot do anything and asked me to call the 800 number for help. I come home and guess what...iPAD loses connectivity in 20 minutes and I am back to square one. All the other devices work fine.. and no my QOS is not active on my router...Its a Trendnet router which I have been using for past 2 years without any issues with the latest software....Pathetic..I will be asking for a refund if they cant fix it.
