Wifi disconnect issue w new Mac

I bought a new Mac about a week ago.  Right away I started experiencing wifi disconnect issues.  I called customer support line and they had me reset the eprom.  I don't recall the key sequence now. The problem went away for a week but has now returned.  Is this a hardware quality issue?

right my friend, you know this is not an uncommon issue with mac, all my macs have the same issue (macbook, mac pro, mac mini and older imac), i disconnect the wifi and reconnect to sole the issue. it depends alot on what you have thats goign on around you, if there is a lot of wireless networks in your area then this might cause the issue. i improved this problem using a time machine and set the wireless to 5ghz only - it helped. i also bought an airport express to strengthen the network and touchwood this is a rare problem for me now!
try moving the modem around in case it this - ensure its not on the floor or touching the floor, there are many tips for improving modem connections look on youtube

    I've been itching to hit the 'buy' button -- but in reading the many postings about the new Mac Mini, I'm seeing lots of issues with the bluetooth ... *wireless signal* ...

    There is a general issue/trend with the new Mini. There are plenty of reports in these forums and the news has begun to hit the wider press; I guess this is more important to a company with only 2-3% desktop share than posts to these forums. I went to the Genius Bar on Saturday and they have now lodged an official bug report with Apple. It looks like the Mini cannot pair with more than one HCI device. So if you pair with the mouse first the keyboard won't work and vice-versa. They don't think the Mini hardware is broken but that we will just have to wait for Apple to fix the firmware.
    Where I do agree is that some issues are OS-X 10.5 related and can therefore affect all Macs. The WiFi has issues where it randomly drops, it doesn't seem able to re-connect at all to channels above 13 and only manually to channels below 12. The system resume function is unreliable. All these started when we moved from 10.4 to 10.5 and so far they have not been addressed. One issue is that there does not appear to be a way for users to log bug reports, except when software crashes. However, the bluetooth issues on the Mac do appear real and are either firmware or hardware related.

    Hey guys, I bought a macbook Air 11’ 4GB 128GB (Mid-2011(after selling my 13” macbook pro) and the problems seem to be never ending.
    My primary work involves using MS Excel so I installed  a licensed version of Office for Mac 2011 and started using excel on my new mac machine. Within few minutes I got a message pop-up on screen “YOUR MAC OS STARTUP DISK HAS NO MORE SPACE AVAILABLE FOR APPLICATION MEMORY”.
    I checked the size of storage and there was just 5 GBs worth space left despite the fact that there was not a single photo, music, video on the new mac apart from a few MBs of excel files. I took it to the vendor (APPLE PREMIUM RESELLER) who after re-installing lion returned it to me and the same issue again popped up. Finally, they diagnosed an SSD problem and after a week of waiting, I was given a brand new shiny macbook air MC969 (same model).
    I used the new one and again while using excel, the same issue has come up. I’m really fed up of this stupid error bcoz I was using the same OFFICE FOR MAC suite on my macbook pro and never suffered any such problem. I have also twice thrice completed all the steps I was told to do (like repair disk perm. Emptying the cache etc. )
    Since India doesn’t have any Apple owned stores but only Premium Resellers whose replacement etc policies are not governed by Apple.
    They do not even refund the money but have given an option of diagnosing the machine and replacing the problematic part.
    I googled the web and found no such issued with EXCEL. Strangely, other apps in the office suite seem to work well without any issues.
    I have attached the screenshots that how while using excel, within a couple of minutes, mac starts to heat up, then storage decreases and finally the error where mac becomes dead slow.
    Please help me to determine where the cause lies.

    The Excel files size range between 29KB to 60KB.
    That's it.
    I called up the reseller and he said that the replacement period is now over and mac would only be repaired.
    I dont want my Mac to get unscrewed

  • Migration Assistant and permissions issues with new Mac Pro

    Hi There,
    I've not had any significant issues with Migration Assistant in the past but I can't create a reliable system with my new Mac Pro.
    After using Migration Assistant during the initial setup, my user account wasn't even transferred. I tried restarting but in the end, I followed these instructions to reset and run the assitant again: http://stationinthemetro.com/2013/11/10/make-mavericks-re-run-the-setup-assistan t
    I've just finished running it for a second time, and while the user account is now on my new system, there are so many permissions issues that the system is unusable (I can't even run Safari). Creative cloud, 1Password, safari, Dropbox are all apps that give me Disk i/o or permissions errors.
    If I look in the user folder, many directories within it have a red minus icon. I've tried fixing permissions using Disk Utility but something is not right.
    In the past, the new system just boots like the old one but this time round, it asked me to create an account after Migration Assistant had finished - is this normal? I used the same username and password as before but I'm not sure Migration Assistantis working properly.
    Does anyone know a full-proof way of fixing and transferring my account without having to spend hours downloading OSX for a full erase and install?
    Any help would be much appreciated.

    I didn't understand exactly what to put into AppleScript sorry (never used it before) - so I just ran the following from the Terminal:
    $ echo $UID
    $ sudo chown -R 503 ~
    And restarted - everything works now - thanks heaps.
    What had happened and is this something I did or did Migration Assistant just get confused?
    I have 3 new Mc Pros to setup on Monday so just want to ensure those are hassle free.

  • Bizarre network autonegotiation issue on new Mac Pro

    First of all, sorry if this is old news but a Google search turns up no helpful solutions even though many seem to have encountered this issue.
    Just received my new Mac Pro. I connected it to a GigE port with a Cat5e cable. I was noticing what I thought to be atrocious network performance between it and my NAS (80Mbits/sec), checked the settings and lo and behold, it had autonegotiated 100Mbit/sec on the link. This is of course wrong. I tried multiple cables, including cables that are running at gig speeds (autonegotiated) to other devices.
    On a lark I moved the cable from Ethernet 1 to Ethernet 2 on the Mac and bingo, it negotiated 1000Mbit/sec. So... what the heck? Why won't Eth1 do so?

    When I say "brand new," I mean "brand new." I took it out of the box, plugged it in, set it up, and noticed the low autonegotiation speed (100Mbits/sec). After switching cables and switch ports, I moved the cable on the computer from Ethernet 1 to Ethernet 2, and it negotiated 1000Mbits/sec. Back to Ethernet 1, back to 100Mbits/sec.
    I've seen a number of threads on this issue via Google search but never a single resolution.

  • Resolve/FCPX playback issues w/ new Mac Pro

    when I have both FCPX and Resolve open on my new Mac Pro, my playback is glitchy in both programs. In FCPX, I get black frame flashes. In resolve, it glitches out w/ neon colors and won't give a clean export/share.
    Any ideas what can be causing this?
    My Mac is driving a NEC 272w via a displayport> mini display cable.

    I've no idea what is causing the problem as I know nothing about Resolve but my reply will bump you to the top of the page giving others more chance to see your question.
    Are you optimizing your footage?
    Also you need to give exact details of the format you are shooting and your project specs.

  • Z97 MPOWER MAX AC Wifi Module issues in new build

    After assembling a new PC based around the Z97 MPOWER MAX AC motherboard, everything is running perfectly smoothly, with the exception of the Wifi Module.
    When I enter the BIOS, the board view shows PCIE8 as "Empty" (and not lit up yellow like the USB ports that have input devices attached).
    The OS also does not seem to recognize this device at all, making it unusable.
    Has anyone else had similar issues?  I personally had some trouble seating the module in place on the first go, and spent a while trying to re-seat it with more confidence.  I think I improved the second time (and third, and fourth) but I still haven't had any luck.
    Maybe someone has found a trick to get it into position and secure it properly, that they can share?

    I have the Z97 XPower AC and occasionally I do have problems with the AC module. It seems that it is a bit loose in the socket, even after tightening the hold down screw. I have found that after moving the case of working inside of the case and bumping around in the I/O area that it seems to become "unseated" just enough to cause a lack of connectivity. I have also found that the simplest way to resolve the problem is to open the case and just lightly apply pressure on the unit by pressing it into the socket, during the boot sequence. After this the wireless connectivity issues are gone until the next time I bump it or move it.

  • Sleeping issue with new mac mini

    i have a new c2d 2.0 mac mini all software is up to date. the first night i was able to put it to sleep without any problems but since then when i try to put it to sleep by eithre the apple menu or hitting (eject,apple,option) the dvd drive clicks and the mini wakes up all in 5 seconds.
    another sleep problem is with both mac mini's (the c2d and g4 1.42) neither will go to sleep with an external harddrive connected (mounted or not and still powered on) I have looked for an answer to this problem for a while and have found nothing. i thought i saw a thread on this very subject but have yet to find it again

    Hello,
    It's nothing to really start worrying about, it's most likely down to a communication error between your hardware and your software. The simple solution is:
    1) Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord.
    2) Wait 15-20 seconds.
    3) Press and hold the power button on the back of the computer
    4) Whilst holding the power button, plug the power cord back into the machine
    5) Release the power button
    6) Press the power button once more to start up your Mac mini.
    Everything should be sorted! (if not, call back here)

  • IPad WiFi Disconnect Issue

    I can connect my new iPad to my wiFi router (Actiontec) but after several minutes connection is lost. I need to re-sign in. I worked with Verizon to reset router per Apple instructions (kb/T53304) but nothing helped. Switching from WEP to WPA or WPA2 was useless. Apple folks, please develop a fix!

    Same for me, 10-15 mins. Sometimes I have to try/dismiss and try up to 5 times, sometimes, the connection comes back after 1 try. Many times I am asked for the WEP key, over and over. This is great since I learned to copy/paste
    I really love the iPad ... but I don't understand why this this continues to happen and has not been fixed ... I paid lots of $$$ for this device and frankly, it does not work as advertised.
    I work at home, have three laptops, all using WiFi without fail. Verizon Fios is the carrier (unreal speed). The iPad even loses the connection 1 foot from the router. It's never more than 10 feet from the router.
    I really don't understand where the outrage is ... I guess it makes little difference to be outraged, but had this been an IBM product, there would be lawsuits, press as much as the oilspill, and general derision of IBM all over the place, but since it's apple, I guess it's like calling the Pope or Dalai Lama a A$$hol&.
    Very sad.
    PLEASE APPLE, fix the problem. The problem is not my network or it's settings, it's in your expensive little device.

  • Start up issues w/ newer Mac

    Hello, I purchased my IMAC in September 2008. This morning when I turned on my computer, it briefly(about a second or 2) showed a ? and then went directly to a screen that said Hardware testing. I tested the hardware and when it was complete, it said the hardware was fine, to check my software. The option to restart or shut down was available, so I shut down. I turn ed on my computer and again it did the same thing and ended up at the test hardware option. TThis time I performed a detailed scheck which tooka little over 1/2 hour. When it was complete, it said everything was fine, to refer to my software manual. Has anyone encounted this typr of problem and what should I do? Thank you

    Hi, thank you for your input. I was able to start up my computer by powering up and pressing the option,command P & R keys as instructed. It worked and I connected my dsl and printer cable and no problems. Although I am glad everything is working, I am still concerned that this occurred. Could this be an indication that my hardware is having problems? I know the hardware test said everything is fine,but it makes me wonder why this would happen. The only additional software that I have installed is Adobe Photoshop, Office for mac(excel, word, powerpoint) and my hp printer that was purchased with my mac. Nothing out of the ordinary happened prior to this problem. Last application open was adobe, I was editing some photos. Any ideas ? Thank you again for your help!

    I am running Mavericks 10.9.4 and this last update of Mavericks was, as you told, to correct this issue on new Mac Pro.
    But simply doesn't connect.

    When i try to connect to this network, the computer scans and scans and scans and never blocks the signal.
    No error messages.
    Yes, other devices connect to this wifi network, like my macbook pro, my iphone etc etc and no problems.
    yes, it used to connect before, but not such many time....
    the problem started in 10.9.3 and when the 10.9.4 update came out, i was glad because it was an issue to fix...
    then connected one or two times and then nothing again....
    i've never did a network diagnostics, but i can do it...not today because this computer is at the house i work with,
    but i'll do it this week.
    the only way i can connect to internet on this Mac Pro, is to connect to my MacBook Pro via ethernet and then the MacBook Pro shares the internet,
    is the only way. (never connected directly to a router using a net cable - ethernet, but i think it also works.)
    The problem here is the WIFI. Always the WIFI.

    I m using Macbook Air 2013 model, recently i m facing wifi disconnection problem on my mac. It keeps disconnect for few mins and reconnect automatically. And this disconnecting & reconnecting continues for regular interval (5 mins once). Its really make me irritating and need ur help to sort out this issue..

    Network preferences may be corrupted ...
    Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type or copy paste the following:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
    Click Go then move all the files in the SystemConfiguration folder to the Trash.
    See if that makes a difference.
    Your Mac will generate a new SystemConfiguration folder for you.
