Wifi Disconnect Problem - Drops Constantly

I have a MBP running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 connected to Mediacom using their standard Netgear modem and it constantly loses wifi signal. Every other device stays connected at all times so I know it's just the computer. It started awhile back and has gotten to the point where I can't seem to do anything without having to turn the wifi off and reconnect. This sometimes solves the problem I usually have to do that 2-3 times before it works. Sometimes it may last 20-30 min but some rare occasions it will only load one webpage for a min or two. This is getting very annoying and has made any video streaming a no go. I've ran diagnostics done everything I could its all good... a ghost problem for me.. Any help?

Wow, that thing's got some pretty basic controls in it. lol
Here's the manual for it.  NETGEAR Cable Modem Gateway CG3000D-1CHXAS User Manual
Go ahead and drop that speed level one more to below the 145 mark that it's on now and see if that stabalizes your connection.  Also, make sure you're using WPA2/AES for your security on it.  There should be no issues with 145 speed, but 300 could cause your disconnects you're seeing.  Try 54 and see what happens long term.

  • Since updating to 10.9.3, WiFi and BT drops constantly

Since updating to 10.9.3, WiFi won't connect easily and my bluetooth Magic Mouse drops constantly.  It takes a long time for WiFi to join networks and sometimes I have to manually select my known network that has worked for years.  The BT Magic Mouse is dropping it's connection all day long.  I have deleted it and added it back in under te BT settings.
Any thoughts or suggestions?  Thanks in advance!

Try resetting your printer and router (power off for 15 secs, then back on).
If that doesn't help, try resetting the Printing System:

  • Did the August OS update to 4.2.2 solve the Xperia Tablet Z Wifi disconnect problem?

we are wanting to purchase 2 Experia Tablet Z's to replace our iPads that we were ever so happy to dump and are looking for new Android tablets but need to know that the OS update cured the known WiFi disconnect issue since we use WiFi in our home for our tablets and smart phones (everything else is hardwired) AND also like to tether our tablets to our smart phones when away from home.
    Opinions appreciated — thanks

  • WiFi Disconnect Problem

I just got off the phone with Apple support and they tell me that the Ipad doesn't work very well with WEP due to some technical issue. For home use that's fine i can change my router to WPA but anywhere else it's usually WEP, such as motels and WiFi public locations.
So if you think you are going to use your Ipad anywhere else than home, watch out, and be ready for trouble.
The support guy says that Apple is aware of this situation and is probably working on it now.
It's a shame, isn't that what the Ipad is all about?
Someone tell me to take it back and get a new one and see if it works?

I use WEP for my iPad and it works OK but could be better. I have less problems with my iPad's wifi than my Mac Mini's wifi.

  • About the wifi disconnection problem that me and many of you have...

Before making a hasty post on this new chic discussions forum I went through the recent activity and found many of you randomly loose connectivity to their wifi routers. I recent bought a Belkin Surf 802.11n router and have been having similar problems. The Airport icon would show connectivity but safari would fail to load pages, including the router's gui page.
Upon reconnection things would work fine.
I found something common among all the times this happened to me. My iPhone 3G was placed just next to my MacBook pro, about 1 feet away, on the desk whenever this happened. also, it comes across the path of the MacBook pro and the router.
I'm wondering if this is a problem relating to signal interference. interestingly, the old router was a/b/g and the new is a/b/g/n and the iPhone 3g is only up till g. so it could possibly me a signal mix up of the two devices, MacBook  on n and iPhone 3g on g.
has anyone of u too had a wifi device nearby when this happened, particularly an iPhone 3g.
also, if this problem is because of something else, please tell me what it is and what's the solution, if u know.
    thanks.

    Hi Macybean,
Please continue your other thread here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15051193
You obviously haven't found a solution yet, and didn't add that detail there.  It is better to finish one thread, get it answered completely, than interrupt another person's with a "me too" especially if there are numerous causes that could possibly cause the same issue.  It is harder to isolate issues, if they are melded in the same thread.  Now if you have a solution you can offer, that's fine.
    Thank you.

When i go to connect to my wifi it will connect, then an error message will come up saying that it couldnt connect. i will have wifi access for a few minutes then it will just turn off. i was wondering what i should do to fix this. Also before this started happening i had typed "ping Netgear" into the terminal app. Netgear is the name of my wifi. then it would say "request timed out" and kept repeating this. i think this may be the cause but I dont know. please help.

I m using Macbook Air 2013 model, recently i m facing wifi disconnection problem on my mac. It keeps disconnect for few mins and reconnect automatically. And this disconnecting & reconnecting continues for regular interval (5 mins once). Its really make me irritating and need ur help to sort out this issue..

Network preferences may be corrupted ...
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Click Go then move all the files in the SystemConfiguration folder to the Trash.
See if that makes a difference.
Your Mac will generate a new SystemConfiguration folder for you.

Your computer is defective and needs to be replaced under warranty with a new one.  I had the same problem with an ideapad s415 touch-it drained 20% per day.  I sent it in for repair, they weren't able to fix it so they replaced it. They tried replacing the motherboard, battery and power adapter -no luck.  They even returned the software to factory condition and updated to latest bios.

  • Wifi drops constantly on WPA enterprise wifi on my campus

    Hello,
I own a macbook pro retina mid 2012 on maverick. The wifi drops constantly on campus, it's a WPA enterprise wifi. The wifi seems to work fine at home. My computer has been sent to an apple store twice for this issue already, I got it back but it is still not working and i spent more than 3 hours on the phone with apple trying to solve that issue. They made me run a lot of stuff, got me to send them files so that their engineers could work on them.
Bottom of the story, they tell me that the problem must come from my university wifi, a wifi network used by 50 000 students every single day and everyone is fine with it ...
I have been to the computer help desk on campus and they had no idea what to do.
So please if anyone has any hint, i would greatly appreciate as I lost faith in apple "engineers" and their skills.
    Thanks guys.

Go to device manager, the Network adapters WiFi driver properties power management
Allow this computer to turn off wifi to save power, uncheck it and restart the Notebook. Hope this helps. Thanks.

  • Ever since upgrading to lion my wifi has been dropping out constantly is apple going to fix this?

Ever since upgrading to lion my wifi has been dropping out constantly is apple going to fix this?

There are two possibilities, 1)it is a software problem which will be fixed.
2)It is a hardware problem, and youll have to take it to an iStore.
BUT there is something you should know.
If your under apple care, its free.
If you are not under apple care, itll cost you something to find out where the problem is (i dont live in the US so I dont know) and then extra cost for the reapair itself.

  • Wifi dropping constantly on a MacBook Air and iPad 2 and iPad 3.  I am not computer savvy so any solution will have to be in 'normal' language, please.

I keep looking for the solution to wifi dropping constantly, but just can't understand the answers, let alone follow the instructions.  Can anyone please explain in 'baby' language how to stop wifi constantly dropping on my MacBook Air and iPads 2 and 3.  I have had this problem for about three weeks and prior to that everything was fine.  I am using a D-Link Router on channel 11, with AOL as my provider.  Thank you so much.

That is correct, so I have just been told!!  Our Router is a D-Link DSL-2640R which we access via typing 192.168.1.1 into our Internet Explorer Browser on a Windows PC computer.  All this has been working for years.  The Summary page for the Router shows Internet, DSL and Wireless are all connected and working fine.  We have changed the channel to 11 which has made things faster and is not in conflict with nearby systems, but wi-fi still drops on the Mac and iPads.  I have only had this problem for a matter of a few weeks.  Before that all worked perfectly fine.
By the way thank you very much for trying to help.

  • Strange macbook pro wifi problems - selective wifi disconnection

I have 3 macbook pros, two iphones and an apple TV.  My primary macbook pro has some very unusual wifi problems that are hard to pin down.  It frequently disconnects and reconnects itself to the internet constantly throughout the day.  I've been testing it in various ways and today I noticed the strangest anomaly by far.
While working today, my primary macbook pro could not connect to the internet through any of the 3 browsers I use.  Airport Utility said the internet was down (internet icon was amber, airport icon was green).  However during this disconnection, my p2p application (Soulseek) experienced no disruption of service and continued to download files.  I opened my second macbook pro and strangely enough, the 2nd mac was able to connect to the internet through browsers without issue, and the airport utility on the 2nd macbook pro said the internet was connected.  My Apple TV was connected too as well as my iPhone.
It is often difficult for me to troubleshoot network problems because there are so many variables (ISP, airport assembly, airport base station, OSX, airport utility, modem) but I guess in this particular instance, it seems clear that the problem has something to do with my macbook pro.
My primary macbook has always had wifi problems (and honestly, my last macbook--the one that actually worked today!--had similar issues back when it was my primary laptop).  Last week, my primary macbook pro had the topcase, display and logic board replaced by Apple.  When it came back, it had the same wifi connectivity issues it always had.  Often, a restart will be a very temporary fix, but not always.
I am at a complete loss for what could be causing these lapses in service.  In fact, right now as I was trying to access these forums, I could not even get my primary macbook to open the Apple Support Site on any browser.  Every other website would open, except Apple Support.  I opened my 2nd laptop and it opened Apple Support just fine.  After 15 minutes, my primary laptop finally opened up an Apple support page in Firefox.
It is really hard to diagnose the problem.  I find that Airport Utility has been so pared down and streamlined to the point that it is worthless.  It is basically a blank window with 2 application logos inside.  It looks very simple and user friendly until it has a problem, and then it tells me to do something very technical without an explanation for the layman (such as assigning DNS servers or putting the airport in Bridge mode).  I always follow Airport Utility's advice, but I still have odd problems.  I am often confused as to whether I should use Airport Utility or the Network button in System Preferences.  They have the same options, but they're arranged under tabs with different titles.
Anyway, does anyone recognize these macbook pro wifi connectivity problems?  Constant wifi disconnection on one machine (while all others experience no connection problems) coupled with instances of selective disconnection (like browsers not connecting while p2p is able to connect or browser connecting to some sites but not all?)
Thanks for any help or guidance

Same exact issue here. It happened once when I updated to Mavericks 10.9.2. It just happened again last night and I can't seem to fix it.
I tried all sorts of things like deleting the SystemConfiguration folder, PRAM, SMC, DNS flush, etc. Nothing helped. As I recall, the last time it happened it mysteriously fixed itself after a day or two.
Very weird problem. I have been troubleshooting computers my whole life but this one is tough to figure out. Other machines in the house connect up just fine.

  • Wifi drops constantly on brand new HP Envy Notebook.

I've always thought so highly of HP and as such, decided to purchase an HP laptop - an HP Envy 15-K233ca Notebook. I have had some issues from the start and one in particular, is making for a rather unpleasant experience. The wifi connection keeps dropping.  It drops when the system is put in sleep mode, when I surf the net and even after a reboot.   I walked through the issue (and a few others) with HP's  help desk this evening and after 2 hours was met with the same problem.  I am now having to reboot the computer and troubleshoot to try and maintain a wifi connection.  This is my first experience with an HP Laptop and I'm disappointed.  It's unfortunate, but I may have to return it.  I'll be walking over to Apple for a replacement.   If someone from HP can resolve this for once and for all, it would be helpful. Otherwise, I will have no choice but to return the unit. Note:  I've noticed that others experience the same issue.  I requested that HP's Help Desk install drivers to resolve the issue.  If this didn't work after our session this evening, then I'm afraid it may be a hardware issue.

It's likely that the update included new definitions or profiles for wifi that your routers are having trouble with. This doesn't indicate that anything is broke, just that iPhones on the newest software are going to have issues with that configuration of wifi. If you have access to your router's settings, try connecting on a different chanel or disabling the security to see if the phone connects that way. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199 has some recomended settings, but you may find that changing the name of your network or the security that you are using will fix this issue.
