WiFi disconnected when screen locked on Lumia 920
Hello,
As far as I could see, this issue is being discussed on some other issues.
My issue is simple: my WiFi disconnects when my screen locks (depending on the timing I set..3 minutes, 15 minutes, etc.). Is it normal? If not, how can it be solved?
Thanks!
Solved!
Go to Solution. It is normal for your phone at the moment. However, Microsoft will be releasing an update soon which includes a change to this, so you won't have too long to wait.

Is it normal wifi disconnect when iPhone 5 iOS 6.0.1 is locked or in Sleep mode?
is it normal wifi disconnect when iPhone 5 iOS 6.0.1 is locked or in Sleep mode? i wondering if this normal or not, coz my iPhone 5 disconnect when my phone is locked or in sleep mode, any suggestion or comments are highly appreciated!
It sounds like to me that Apple has worked out a way that the data service providers can increase your usage of the cellular network to increase your bill which undoubtably has resulted in kickbacks. It is pretty crafty and I'm sure most people won't even notice. What really blows my mind is that they have people saying that it is to save battery life. I can't imagine that the ammount of suppossedly saved battery life is even messurable. Reeks of a scam to me.

Wifi disconnects when waking from sleep mode; running Mountain Lion
Had this same issue with Lion as well,, wifi disconnects when waking from sleep mode,,,any ideas how to fix this pesky issue?
Hi Sky,
This has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
10.7…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Click OK.
Also, turn off IPv6:
System Preferences » Network » AirPort » TCP/IP tab » Configure IPv6
Or whatever Interface you use. -
After upgrade ipad to ios6.1 Wifi disconnect at sleep mode Whay?????????!!!!!!
I had this problem too. Try the following:
Connect to network.
Double tap the Home button to access the app list.
Press and hold, then tap the x on Settings (i.e. close the settings app)
Switch your iPad off and back on again.
This worked for me.
A lot of people are suggesting Settings->General->Reset->Reset Network Settings. Might be worth a try if the above doesn't work, but didn't work for me. -
Time Capsule WiFi disconnects when a Fujitsu Siemen Laptop with b/g network
Time Capsule WiFi disconnects when a Windows Vista based Laptop with "b/g" network connects. When i use Macbook with "n" Network.
Surprising that TC and MacBook both from Apple can't stay connected when Fujitsu Siemens Laptop joins through WiFi.
I use a DSL Modem (Speed 1 Mbps) connected thru ethernet to Time Capsule on Bridge Mode.Yes, n is better, but if you have it running on b/g/n (since you have to with your b/g only notebooks) the n is inactive. Kind of a waste. Others have resorted to adding another wireless router which one set to b/g/n and the other n-only.

Why does my WIFI disconnect when I plug in my cinema display (retina)?
When I connect my Cinema Display to a DVI to Thunderbolt adapter and then the adapter to my Retina Mac Book Pro the WIFI disconnects. What is going on here? It was working just fine a day ago.
Lil' help?Hi wreckdiver05,
It is normal for your Mac to close its network connections when it is put to sleep (for example, closing the display on a portable Mac). If you are having issues with it not automatically rejoining your network when it wakes, you may find the following articles helpful:

IPad WiFi/3G dropping WiFi connection when sleeping
Just recently, my IPad just started dropping it's wifi connection when it goes ton sleep, and it isn't automatically reconnecting. This is my home network, and previously it did reconnect on wake. I have open preferences and manually reconnect every time I wake the iPad.

Ok. I am surprised I haven't heard this from you smart people:
*The wifi problems are specific to certain types of routers!!!*
Example: My Pad works like a champ at work. The router there is an old Linksys G.
It works like crap at home. At home I have a newer Belkin N/G.
That's why some people have problems and some don't: It depends on the router.
So...My question is: What is the best router for an iPad?
I'm willing to go out an buy it; I just want someone to tell me the best one!!
Is it really necessary to spam so many threads with this?

Iphone 4s on iOS 7.1.2, wifi disabled when phone is locked
Hey, So i do not have 3g connection. So whenever my iphone is locked the wifi seems to drop until i turn it back on. It never did this before now im receiving iMessages LATE, im talking 5-45 minutes late. What can i do to change this?
More than likely that is the reason. The only way for you to receive an iMessage is if you are connected to the Internet. If your Wi-Fi is off, as it is when the phone is asleep and you have no other data connection, then messages will not be delivered until you connect to the Internet again. So if you only data connection is Wi-Fi, then you would have to have the device connected to power to maintain a constant Wi-Fi connection. If not, then the connection will go to sleep. If a person that is sending you the message has "Send as SMS" activated on their device, an iMessage failure would result in the message being sent/received as an SMS (regular text message).

Wifi disconnecting when locked?
Sometimes when my ipad is locked even if i'm downloading something it'll disconnect from my wifi no matter what i'm doing on it and it's really anoying, is it something to do with ios 6 or my ipad?
Strange, my iPhone does not do that. I can make/receive calls over WiFi.
Sounds like a problem with your BT router. -
Wifi Disconnecting when watching videos?!
Hi I have had my ipad for a while now and this has been a problem from the start. My wi-fi shows that is is at 2-3 bars all the time and i am close to my router, only 1 door is between where I use my ipad most the time. However when I watch a video on my ipad for example youtube, my wi-fi suddenly disconnects completely, going from 2-3 bars to nothing at all! When this happens no other device in my house that uses wi fi can connect! This is a major problem as it works all the time but only when I watch videos does it disconnect, and most of the use of my ipad is to watch youtube, and other media. Does anyone know any ways to solve this problem? Or why it is happening?
Many thanks, Callum
To specify:
Ipad 4 with retina display, (lightning connector)
Version 6.1.3 (taken from general tab on settings)
My wireless connection is fine, it works with all other wireless enabled devices in my houseHey Spalding 13,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you are having issues connecting to Wi-Fi networks with your iPad. The following troubleshooting assistant may lead to a resolution:
Apple - Support - iPhone - Join a network Assistant

For more in-depth troubleshooting, refer to the following article:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

Also, as a side note, you may want to check the configuration of your Wi-Fi router, as this can sometimes be the culprit. Here are some basic recommendations:

ATV2 shuts down wifi connection when sleeping
If I let my ATV2 go to sleep then about 10 seconds after that happens then I can lon longer ping it and Airplay stops being prrsented as an option on my iphone. I beleive it is shutting down the wifi connection as part of the sleep process.
Is there any way to ensure I can still Airplay to it whilst it is in sleep mode. This used to work but oddly stopped. I have tried upgrading to 5.2 but it has made no difference.
Does anyone have an answer or is there any way I can diagnose what is going on ?
DenisMaybe the question is wrong. The ATV2 was also used to host a web site (lighttpd) and used to work happily whilst in sleep mode but that now no longer works, nor can I SSH to the device. Connecting via eithernet isn't an option sadly.
Seems the bonjour wake on demand does work, so I can use Airplay whilst the ATV is asleep and it wakes, but not anything to do with TCP/IP -

Wifi disconnects after sleep and takes long time to reconnect with Mavericks
Has anyone/ Apple come up with a solution? A workaround OTHER THAN disabling then reenabling the wifi adapter? This is certainly frustrating
Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved. Make sure the box marked
Remember networks this computer has joined
is checked.
2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading
Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet
3. Reset the PRAM.
4. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
5. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
6. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
7. Repair permissions on the startup volume.
8. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
9. Reset the System Management Controller.
10. This step shouldn't be necessary, but has been advised by Apple Support in some cases, apparently as a workaround for a bug. Open the Energy Saver pane in System Preferences. If applicable, click the padlock icon in the lower left corner to unlock the settings. Enter your administrator login password when prompted.
Select the Power Adapter tab and uncheck the boxes marked
Wake for Wi-Fi network access
and
Enable Power Nap...
if present. Then, if the computer is a MacBook, select the Battery tab and uncheck
Enable Power Nap...
11. Reinstall OS X. -
Lenovo U410 - Wifi disconnected when connected to USB.
Hi, I bought a Lenovo U410 sometime in July 2012 (bought it back home in Malaysia). About a week or two after I bought it, the laptop sleeve cover came off, causing the laptop to fall to the floor. But fortunately, other than a small dent (pictured) at one corner of the laptop, everything seems to work okay. [well, if you plug in an earphone, only the right side would play but I'm not too concerned about that] I've enjoyed using the laptop, everything works fine & easy for me. I use it mainly for my studies (I'm a rising junior in Madison) and occassionally some photos & video processing. Other than The Sims, I never actually used my laptop for 'gaming' stuff (was planning to soon though). But recently, in the past few months, I realized that there's something wrong with the laptop. It connects to WiFi just fine and everything, but whenever I connect my external hard drive to my laptop, my Wifi would disconnect automatically & wouldn't reconnect until I remove the hard drive. This happen even when I connect a USB port to the laptop, but doesn't happen when I connect a small USB pendrive or my phone (Samsung Note 4) or a bluetooth speaker. Not sure what's the problem with it, and I'm a noob when it comes to things like this, so I would really appreciate your help. Thanks in advance!
Hi syazanazura,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
The Laptop maybe having power issue since the drop.
You can try opening
Control Panel / Hardware and sound / Power Options / Change plan settings on selected power plan / Change Advanced power Settings
Now look for the Wireless Adapter Settings Make sure not to use the scroll but use the scrollbar to the right
Open the Wireless adapter setting and make sure that both plugged in and on Battery are set to Maximum Performance.
Let me know if this works for you
