Wifi does not switch on since a power cut. Is this hardware failure or can I reset something

My wifi will not switch on on my mini mac since there was a power cut.

Yes. It can not auto-sleep from the home screen with that feature enabled.

My I-Mac does not start up anymore since there was a general power failure in house.
After power came back I disconnected the power cord for 1 hour and thereafter tried again.
    No results.
What can I do now ?
    Thanks for help.

One thing to remember, after the computer has been unplugged for a while and then you plug it in, WAIT for maybe 10 or more seconds before you try to start.  I have had a few ocassions where going directly from plug in to power button would not bring the computer up.
Just for info, what happens when you HOLD the "Apple" key also called Command Key before powering up and continuing to hold it for maybe 30 seconds?  That should bring up a list of all available boot sources.  That would include a Recovery Partition which would then allow you to do a permissions repair (via disk utility) and Verify disk.
You could also hold the "T" key while booting up until a "Y" Firewire symbol appears on the screen.  That would convert your computer into an external Firewire drive which could be plugged in via a Firewire cable, to another MAC and let you retrieve files from your computer's hard drive.
Both of these options are based on the power supply and logic board still working.  If you do not get those indications, then a trip to the repair center is probably in order.

  • ThinkCentre Edge 71, Power LED does not switch off

Since I have installed win7 64bit, the pc does not switch off after Power down command. For switch off i must hold the power button >10sec.
    Thanks for Help.

    Hello Walter,
Please update the BIOS which will resolve the issue.
    http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/thinkcentre_bios/9qjy36usa.exe
You may also try the Windows registry setting. Kindly be careful while editing windows registry.
Have a look at the following registry location (note that you need to invoke regedit.exe with administrative privileges in order to make any changes in this location) and ensure that the value ClearPageFileAtShutdown is set to 0 (if it is set to 1, change the value to 0).
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management

  • OSX 10.9.1 macbook pro 13 retina - wifi does not reconnect automatically when waking up from sleep mode since I have a Bluetooth apple magicmouse

    Hello,
My config is OSX 10.9.1 new macbook pro 13 retina (2014).
The wifi does not reconnect automatically when waking up from sleep mode since I have a Bluetooth apple magicmouse.
It was not the case before I bought the BT mouse.
Is this problem between Wifi and bluetooth coming from the OS?
Is there a fix already available or scheduled?
    Thanks

    Hello alexandrefromfrance
Check the Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly section for steps on what to do when your MacBook Pro does not connect after waking from sleep. I have also quoted the section on troubleshooting the issue as well.
Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4628
Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet
After waking from sleep or starting up, your computer may not show that it is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
After start or wake, your computer may indicate that it is connected to a network, but does not connect to the Internet.
    Solution
Use these steps if your computer does not automatically connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Check your TCP/IP settings in the Network pane of the System Preferences. Click the "Renew DHCP lease" button
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
Choose Network from the View menu.
Select Wi-Fi, then click the Advanced button in the lower-left hand corner of the screen.
Click the TCP/IP tab from the top of the screen.
Click the "Renew DHCP lease" button.
Select the Wi-Fi tab and view your Preferred Networks list.
Select each network and click the minus sign to remove those networks from your Preferred Networks list.
Click OK and close the Network preferences.
Remove your stored network passwords using the Keychain Access Utility.
Open Keychain Access from /Applications/Utilities. Your window will look like this:
Remove your AirPort network passwords from the login keychain: Select the "login" keychain from the Keychain sidebar. Click the "Kind" column to order the list of keychain items by their type. Remove all entries of the kind: "AirPort network password".
Remove your AirPort network passwords from the System keychain: Select the "System" keychain from the Keychain sidebar. Click the "Kind" column to order the list of keychain items by their type. Remove all entries of the kind: "AirPort network password".

Note: The above steps will remove your Wi-Fi network passwords. If you do not know them, or if your network does not use passwords to restrict access, you should contact your network administrator.
    Restart your computer.
Join your Wi-Fi network. You will need to enter your password for your network again if it requires one.
    Regards,
    -Norm G.

After upgrade to Yosemite my MacBook Air does not switch automaticly from wifi to ethernet. How to sloven problem?

Have you tried changing the order in Network Preferences pane?
Open System Preferences/Networks/Click the gear symbol under the service list. Select set service order then drag. If your wifi is above the ethernet move the ethernet to the top. Click ok. Click apply (bottom left) and test.
    Hope this helps

  • Helix Wifi does not connect to wifi when 3g is connected

This might be strange. Since the latest update of wifi drivers (dec 2013) the wifi does not automatically connect if there is a 3G connection. So 3G Connects automatically and wifi does not.
If I then conect to both, 3G still has preference over wifi. This should be the other way round.
May be this is a generic Windows 8.1 issue?
    Thanks,
    Ruud

Connect the Modem to the router on the Internet Port and the computer to the Router on the Ethernet Port...reset the router for 30 seconds, power cycle the router and then, try to open the setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 in the address bar.

  • AT270 does not switch on

    Hello,
my appr. 2 year old at270 has "problems to switch on" since some time (Display stays dark although the buzz tells the tablet reacts). I thought I might have software problems and resetted.
Now it does not switch on at all, but maybe this is not completely true, because attaching the tablet via usb to my Desktop the Explorer shows its directory.
    Do I have a hardware problem ???

    > Do I have a hardware problem ???
    It looks so
You could try to perform hard reset pressing and holding the power button and volume up button.
Usually this enables the advanced menu where you should be able to choose the reset option.

    If not:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem. A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
    Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    Then:
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • My Mac Pro does not switch off.

It worked before Lion. Installed 10.7 and also upgraded to 10.7.1 but, on both cases, it does not switch-off. To be precise it "sometimes" switch-off but many times it does not. Let's say once on 15 times... With Leopard I nevere had this problem. (it persists also after a PRAM reset). I also run a second problem but only once and only upgrading to 10.7.1 (not to 10.7). It says that my RAM was on wrong position.. I had to remove and install the RAM again and it worked.
Any other case like this? (This append only on my MacPro - early 2009. On my MacBook and my MacBook Pro OSX Lion works fine).

Is there a pattern to the chimes, or are they simply random, as if the Mac is repeatedly rebooting on its own?
Have you tried a "Safe Boot"? Press and hold a Shift key as you power up the Mac. Does it start then?
If it starts at all "Safe Boot" will take much longer than usual, that's normal. Shutting down will take longer also. Try it.

  • Wifi does not work correctly on iPad Mini w/ Retina display

I've found that Wifi does not work properly on the iPad mini w/ Retina display.
Some background: I own three iPads (iPad mini w/ retina display, iPad mini, and iPad 3rd gen), an iPod touch 5th gen, and a Macbook Air, and use them all frequently with my pocket Wifi router.
None of them exhibit any Wifi problems whatsoever except for my iPad mini w/ retina display.
    Here are the details:
In the middle of using Wifi with my pocket Wifi router, the Wifi connection will abrubptly drop, then reconnect. After the Wifi reconnects, it is no longer able to connect to the internet (even though Wifi itself is connected).
Once the iPad mini w/ retina display's Wifi gets into this state, the following may or may not restore WiFi temporarily:
    Restart the device
    Reset network settings
Yet, even if connectevitiy is restored, the problem will happen again within minutes.
When the iPad mini w/ retina display gets into this state, the Wifi on my iPod touch, other iPads, and on my Macbook Air work perfectly fine, so I know the problem is not with my Wifi device or it's connection, but specifically with the iPad mini w/ retina display
    Note:
The iPad mini w/ retina display never has any issues with my home or work Wifi networks. The problem only happens when connected to my pocket Wifi device. Yet, all of my other iOS devices and my MacBook Air work perfectly with my pocket Wifi device, therefore I know the problem is not with the pocket Wifi device, but with the iPad mini with retina display.
    Solutions:
Resetting the iPad mini w/ retina display to factory settings does not solve the problem
Resetting network settings on the iPad mini w/ retina display does not solve the problem
I have even replaced my original iPad mini w/ retina and got a new one. Yet, the new device exhibits the exact same behavior as the original device.
    Conclusion:
I know this is not a hardware problem (since it happened with both my original as well as replacement device).
I know this is not a problem with my pocket WiFi router, since it works perfectly with all of my other iOS devices and MacBook Air.
Therefore, this must be a software / firmware bug with the iPad mini w/ retina display. Apple will need to fix this in a future software update.
Has anyone else seen this problem?

I too have experienced this issue over the past two days... I have a 16gb ipad mini retina, for reference. I bought the device one week ago, and had not experience any issues at all until bringing my device to work. I logged into my work's enterprise level wireless network both yesterday and today, maintained normal wifi capabilities for 2-4 hours each day, and was then randomly dropped, both days. I tried hard resets, resetting my network settings, airplane mode, etc. Nothing has worked. I am still offline on my ipad mini retina.
My iPhone 5 is sitting right next to my iPad mini retina. The iPhone is currently connected to the same very network, and has been for the past two years. I have never lost connection on my iPhone's wifi, just my iPad mini retina.
This must be some kind of bug, as it does not sound like a hardware nor network issue.
Hopefully they fix this in 7.1.

  • HH2 bt infinity and windows 8 Wifi does not have a...

Hello I bought windows 8 in January and upgraded an old Dell xps m1730 laptop, however after 4 or 5 months the laptop lost all it's wireless connection to the HH. I rang Bt help and eventually was told that it was a fault with my Laptop, after playing around with ip settings I eventually got the laptop to connect by using a static ip address in my list of IP's. Yesterday I bought a brand new laptop for my daughter, an HP Envy M6 i5, and during the setup process I entered my wireless details, and I could not believe it,there was the same message Wifi does not have a valid wifi configuration, i tried using ip config renew, flush, switched off the firewall, switched of the HomeHub and the Openreach boxes to no avail, i have now setup this pc using a static ip address. As like most people these days i have a lot of wifi devices in the house, including 3 Macbook's, iphone's,blackberry's, also a windows 7 pc, everything connects flawlessly, Just not Windows 8, Can you prompt me in the right direction to fix this problem?

That's a pity! I was going to suggest using the Windows connection rather than the HP one to see if it connected without problem.
I don't think there is a general problem with Windows 8 not connecting to Infinity otherwise I'm sure there would be more posts about it on this forum.
I usually suggest a factory reset of the homehub by pressing a pin into the red recess button for about 20 seconds to sort out configuration settings on the Hub but if you were to do this you would need to set up your fixed IP address again if it didn't sort the problem. It might be worth a try if you can be bothered.
Other than that I can't think what else to try for the moment.

  • HELP! My MacBook Air does not switch on at all

My MacBook Air does not switch on at all. I press the "switch on" button but nothing happens. The battery is fully charged and the laptop is absolutely new (2 month of rare use). Have no idea what's wrong with it.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Aliyusha,
welcome to the forums. I'm sorry to hear about your computer issues.

  • WiFi does not connect whilst Time Machine backup occurs at startup

This is a problem I've had since the beta test session and does not seem to have been fixed.
If I shut down the computer in the middle of a backup or a backup strats immediately on opening the lid of my computer (MBA late 2010), the WiFi does not connect. If I am patient, eventually the backup will terminate and I can then connect. My router is a Time Capsule, and all software is up to date.
I don't recall having this problem with Snow Leopard.
