WiFi doesn't connect automatically on open

Since upgrading to Mavericks my WiFi connection does not automatically connect when waking from sleep. Sometimes if I click on my account it connects, other times I have to turn WiFi off then back on and it connects. Once connected it is fine.
I have removed the network account several times then restarted the computer and reinstalled my network. Has not corrected the problem. I've checked the security settings and they match. Any suggestions?

To summarize what I have found so far:
Issue is that wifi drops after wake from sleep, and also that it drops randomly while surfing/idle
Issue is happening on OS Mavericks MBA and MBP (may also exist on Lion and Mountain Lion)
Issue is happening on on wifi (may also exist on ethernet connections)
Issue may be also related to wifi router, but some users have successful connections to other apple products including ipad, ipod, etc and windows laptops
Issue has been reportedly resolved using Reforgers method  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5537854?start=0&tstart=0
Issue has been reportedly resolved by turning off Bluetooth completely (or by just turning off Bluetooth PAN)
Issue has been reportedly resolved by turning off iCloud services
Please give apple feedback!

100K people have read this and other threads, if all of them leave a quick feedback maybe apple will fix/respond.  Even if a temporary fix works it is not a full solution and apple should push an update

  • Airport doesn´t connect automatically to Network with Zyxel

I am the proud owner of a new iMac Intel core duo 2,83Ghz since last wendsday. When I start the computer, Airport doesn´t connect automatically to my Home Network!! I checked all the settings - even them on the Router - severell times!! I use a Zyxell P-335WT Router. Fact is that allready had a Intel core duo based iMac. The automatically connection worked without any problem!!
Yesterday i phoned 1,5 hours with apple support - they couldn´t find the problem.
Has anybody an idea?? Last option is to put a new firmware on the router, and make new settings.

Same thing here. I have a belkin f5d7230 router. Wirelessly, my pc connects and stays connected, my old G4 with a reaktek wireless card connects and stays connected, and my new macbook pro connects and stays connected.
On my new iMac (purchased 3 weeks ago) airport extreme connects at start up and stays connected until the computer goes in a low power state or the screen saver goes on. then the connection drops. I have to click the little wireless "fan" graphic in the bar and select my network to connect again. This is CLEARLY an issue with this computer PERIOD. Apple needs to fix it one way or another preferably with a firmware update or something... I'm not interested in dragging this down to the apple store to have it sit there for a week.

  • Wifi does not connect automatically after sleep

Since installing Yosemite on my Mid 2011 iMac - when my computer wakes from sleep mode, it does not automatically connect to the wifi.  I have to select the network to join from the top menu bar.  Is there anyway to make it connect automatically like it use to?  Thanks for any and all help!

    Hello ffmed124,
The steps detailed below can help get your iMac to reconnect to your Wi-Fi network automatically after waking from sleep.
Check your TCP/IP settings in the Network pane of the System Preferences. Click the "Renew DHCP lease" button
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
Choose Network from the View menu.
Select Wi-Fi, then click the Advanced button in the lower-left hand corner of the screen.
Click the TCP/IP tab from the top of the screen.
Click the "Renew DHCP lease" button.
Select the Wi-Fi tab and view your Preferred Networks list.
Select each network and click the minus (-) sign to remove those networks from your Preferred Networks list.
Click OK and close the Network preferences.
Remove your stored network passwords using the Keychain Access Utility.
Open Keychain Access from /Applications/Utilities. Your window will look like this:
Remove your AirPort network passwords from the login keychain: Select the "login" keychain from the Keychain sidebar. Click the "Kind" column to order the list of keychain items by their type. Remove all entries of the kind: "AirPort network password".
Remove your AirPort network passwords from the System keychain: Select the "System" keychain from the Keychain sidebar. Click the "Kind" column to order the list of keychain items by their type. Remove all entries of the kind: "AirPort network password".Note: The above steps will remove your Wi-Fi network passwords. If you do not know them, or if your network does not use passwords to restrict access, you should contact your network administrator.
    Restart your computer.
Join your Wi-Fi network. You will need to enter your password for your network again if it requires one.

  • E61 and WiFI, will it connect automatically or not...

I'd like to get my self this device just for its WiFi capability. I need to understand if it will connect automatically to an access point when it detect it, like in cafe-shops, public AP etc...
I've read it doesn't work that well as mobile PC or windows mobile, where you just pick an AP from a list and that's it.
    Thanks!

It is not really that difficult. You only need to define the access point once in the "Settings" app, and then choose that when you connect (for applications like the browser, etc.).
I've found that my E61 mail accounts "forget" the AP settings if they can't connect to any AP. This happens all the time when I'm on the subway and I have to reset all the email accounts' settings. It's a real PITA and a terrible little bug.
I wish Nokia would give us a way to have a system level AP or AP Group and then let each application or email account override the system level default.

  • WiFi doesn't connect to the internet.

I ran cccleaner for mac on my macbook 1,1 and now it doesn't connect to the internet. what should I do?

When you are connected, try Settings > WiFi and touch the blue > next to the network name. You should see your IP address (if it is 169, then there are other problems), subnet mask, the Router IP address, and the DNS address. If you do not see the last two, touch the DHCP button, scroll down and touch Renew Lease. Check your settings again. If they are there, you should be good to go.
If they are not, try this Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings and when your iPod restarts, log back into your network.
Be aware that some public networks require that you log in further via a web screen to actually access their network.

    Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

  • Wife doesn't have permission to open dmg files

I've got a quick question. I have my wife set up with some limits so she doesn't try to install everything in the world. I've downloaded a disk image file from MyPublisher which will install a iPhoto plugin that will allow her to order books from MyPublisher. Unfortunately she gets the following error when she tries to open the dmg file:
"You don't have permission to open this application"
I guess I have two questions. First, is there a way for me to enable her to install only this application? I don't really want to give her blanket permissions to install apps, only this one. Second, if I install this plugin on my account will it only affect my iPhoto instance, or hers too. I'm more interested in an easy way for her to install/uninstall using that one dmg file so if we can solve that issue I don't care about the other question.

Most likely some extended file permission problem where the files have been miscategories? as quarantined:

What I have seen, is I open a bunch of *.jpg's in Preview.  If there is a problem with 1 file Preview often quarantines all the following files.  I believe that status goes away on reboot but not ideal to have to do that.
Not sure what the correct way to prevent this behavior is.  This might prove riskier than just fixing the files when it occurs:

  • Yet another iPhone WiFi thread - cannot connect to some OPEN networks

I make no apologies in starting another thread about iPhone WiFi connectivity. Judging by the number of references to WiFi issues in this forum, as well as on the Internet generally, this is a big issue with many users and yet there seems very little acknowledgement by Apple that there is problem.
In my case I have a first generation iPhone which works well on most WiFi networks, both open and closed, including my secured network at home, but cannot connect properly with some open networks. I have had this problem while using 1.0, 2.0 and 2.1 firmware.
Sometimes I get the "Cannot Connect ..." message and sometimes I am able to connect and obtain a good signal and see an IP Address and a Subnet mask, but no Router or DNS address.
I'll repeat that I talking about open networks, so there is no password issue. In one local cafe, I am unable to connect to a network that I used to be able to connect to routinely. I have talked to the owner, who is another Mac and iPhone user and he assures me that he has not changed any router settings.
Can anyone offer any suggestions beyond the usual re-setting and re-booting options? Is there something about iPhone MAC addresses or the WiFi signal that certain routers don't like?
    Simon

This is not a solution to your problems but:
1- Expecting someone from Apple to respond here is a vain hope. This is a discussion forum for users and you can only expect responses from users. Talk to Apple tech support if you want a response from them.
2- I saw an item on an iPhone blog page somewhere yesterday saying that Apple was now replacing iPhones with this issue if you took it to an Apple store. Don't know if it's true but it also had a workaround that you could use for your own home network if you were having problems—and I am—and that workaround basically worked for me.
I turned wi-fi off on the phone and opened Airport Utility on my iMac. I turned wi-fi security OFF and then tried to connect. I actually got a connection straight away, and I noted down the IP addresses and subnet mask data from the DHCP screen in the iPhone's wi-fi network info screen. I then restored wi-fi security on my iMac. Of course that restarts the router and I lost my connection and when it started up again, the IP addresses had changed but the subnet mask had not. I swapped to the Static screen instead of the DHCP screen and edited all 3 IP addresses. That got me my connection back and it has continued to work throughout today. That's the best result I've had so far.
It seems to me that my iPhone has problems picking up the network data from my home network and I don't know why that is. I was at a friend's last night and tried to connect to his system and it connected straight away. I assume there's something about my settings which is problematic but I don't know what it is but at least now I have a workaround.
It's possible that something similar is going on for you with the public networks you're having problems with but, unfortunately, the workaround I tried won't work for you in a public network so that's probably not much help.
You could try taking your phone to an Apple Store and seeing if they exchange it. The blog I read suggested the magic words were "hardware problem". In my case I don't think it's a hardware problem but it may be in yours.

  • WiFi doesn't connect right away after recent update

So after the recent firmware update, I noticed that there is a delay before my internet starts to work in all my WiFi networks (school, home, friends home, work). For example, even though I just connected to the network and it has finished connecting, I cannot actually visit a page at all through a browser and I would have to wait until it just "starts working". It's really annoying, and I was wondering if anyone has the same problem or if anyone has found a fix.

My device it is not rooted.  So these are the instructions.
    Enable MTP
Connect the device to a computer using the supplied USB cable.
If necessary, select and hold the status bar (located at the top) then drag to the bottom.
Select Connected as a media device.
    Select Media device (MTP).
Selected when a check mark is present.
    Disable MTP
Ensure the device is disconnected from the computer or switch USB connection modes.
To switch modes, select and hold the status bar (located at the top) then drag to the bottom.
Select Connected as a media device.
    Select Camera (PTP).
Selected when a check mark is present.
The problem is that the icon for connected as a media device does not show up. I did not have this issue before the over the air update from Verizon to 4.4.

  • My apple tv doesn't connect automatically to iTunes unless i turn on iTunes on computer

Hello I have two apple tv's 3rd gen. the problem i am having is any time i want to access my movie library it tells me to turn on home sharing in which i already have home sharing turned on. I have noticed for me to access my movies i have to go upstaires and open up itunes on my computer to access the movies. on my computer i have it set to wake when there is network activity i.e. when the apple tv is trying to access my itunes library. how do i fix this so i dont physically have to go turn on computer and open up itunes?

Sorry if this is repetitive, but it is sounding as though you are launching iTunes when you attend the computer, iTunes needs to be running all of the time, I haven't yet grasped exactly what you are doing.

  • My Ipad doesn't connect to wifi while all other devices are connected.

My iPad doesn't connect to wifi anymore while all other devices in the same network are connected including iPod.
iPad was connected this morning, but quit connecting since this afternoon.
It tries to connect, but everytime connects, it disconnect within a second, and it keep doing the same thing.
This is the first time ever I see this problem since I started using this iPad.
    What happened to my iPad??

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button
