Wifi Dropping and No help... Except to Transfer to Billing to Cancel (then disconnected)

I've been a loyal customer for over 20 years, but this is just too much. Thursday my wifi started slowing to a crawl and then dropping. After several calls I was told I needed a new Modem... which came today. After setting up Modem the problem persisted. I'm a patient woman, but this is beyond frustrating. Several calls and duplicate walk throughs and we still could not find the issue. I asked for the issue to be escalated and was told there was nothing they could do. I asked about how to find out when my contracts were up so that I can find reliable service and was transfered to billing... and disconnected. I've tried everything and nothing works. Paying for a new modem I didn't need was frustrating enough. Add to it that when I finally demanded to have the ticket esecalated I got a supervisor who's response was to send me to billing to be done with it. I'm not sure where to go from here. If they can't help me since its wifi, is there someone I can speak to about contract due dates so that I can move to a company where I can access my wifi? In case there's support to reach out to... 1. Wired works fine.2. Wireless will start to slow as if there's a large file downloading, then drop completeely.3. New modem, reset old and new and changed wires.4. Cleared network chatter.5. Modem three feet away, no walls or obstructions.6. No changes to modem, laptop, cell phone,  or tablet.

  • IOS 8.1.2 on iphone 6 Wifi drops and doesnt reconnect

    Hi,
I had the an issue with wifi dropping and not reconnecting automatically on my iphone 6 with ios 8.1.2
The wifi was disconnecting every minutes even when the screen was not locked. I had to go back to wifi settings and reselect the network I want
I tried all the tips available (forget network, reset network setting, reboot phone, disable location, disable air drop/bluetooth, etc)
This was happening mostly in hotels with annoying DNS that redirects you to a web page to login with name/room # so changing wifi router settings was not an option
I finally set up static IP adress as mentionned in another post and now my wifi is stable for 3h (and reconnects works too)... thanks
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6554548?tstart=0
I have resolved this issue on my new iPhone6 as follows. My router is a fairly old Belkin in this case.
    1) on iPhone in settings, WiFi, forget this network
    2) select the network again and select the blue i button
    3) Log in to your ADSL router from another device and note network and DNS settings
    4) on iPhone reconfigure using Static settings rather than DHCP (thats what I did anyway)
    5) Log in to your ADSL router again and restart it or power it down and up again
    6) on iPhone reconnect to the WiFi when it restarts
Now everything seems to be ok with the iPhone connected and staying connected.
However this is more a patch than a fix because when I leave the hotel (or any wifi network), the router will assign my static IP to someone else end when I come back it wont work anymore,
My guess is that IOS 8 has problems reconnecting to a router when a new IP address is leased.
The fact that the signal is weak might also affect the frequency at which the ip is renewed
FYI, I have always been a android user and just switched to apple... Not impressed. Hope this is fixed shortly

    Jay,
I've tried most everything as well (including new router before I realized it wasn't our iphone 5's but IOS 8 updates. After turning off LTE and Data Roaming in the Cellular settings, things work much better. WiFi stays connected. Have since re-enabled LTE and it still works. Tried a dozen other "recommendations"; it may have been a combination of things. Still not blazing speed, but tolerable. Just wish 8.1.3 had the fix (from what I've seen today, it's not fixed). Be glad you're not having the SIRI hands-free problem; she won't connect calls in one car and has problems connecting in the other car. About as many have this problem as the wifi snafu that came with IOS 8.

  • Wifi dropping and NEVER working

I have read many posts on different users having their Wifi working for 5-10 minutes, and suddenly disconnecting, and I have tried all the methods that others have contributed, but somehow it doesn't seem to work for me.
Here's my issue:  I have an iPad 1, 64gb, with ios5.1.  Now, on the top left of the screen, the Wifi symbol is shown, but I can never get it to connect to the internet.  I have tried bringing it to different places, and the Wifi always works for maybe 10 minutes, and it drops.  When I try and connect it back to the Wifi network, it never works ever again.  For example, I go to Cafe A, wifi connects for 10 minutes, drops.  I try and connect it again, but it doesn't work.  I go to Cafe B, same problem happens again.  Then I go back to Cafe A, and the Wifi will NEVER work again.
I tried forgetting the netowrking, rebooting the thing for dozens of time, restarting it to factory settings, restoring it, backing everything up and just about a dozen methods, but i never seems to work.  But all the other devices on my house connects perfectly to the Wifi network, so I'm pretty sure it's not my Wifi problem.  Like I said, there's the Wifi symbol on top, but it can never connect...
Help please?  It's really grating on my nerves, and I haven't been to use my iPad for the past 2 weeks..  ):

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

  • Lenovo G585 - wifi dropping and video freezing

    Hi all,
I bought this Lenovo G585 (Win 8) in January this year, and over the past few weeks some problems have been developing. When I move the laptop, either the video I am streaming freezes, or the wifi drops, or both. Sometimes, even after 5/6 restarts, the laptop will not be able to find the wireless networks and I will have to shut it down, remove the battery, replace the battery, and turn it back on - and for some reason this works!
When I say "move" I literally mean I can be sitting on the sofa and move the laptop from beside me up onto my lap. The problem occurs when I transport the laptop between rooms, too.
I've updated the drivers, changed power management settings, updated my antivirus and run scans, all to no avail. What can I do next?

    hi nikitgr,
When Heavyload is stressing the CPU @ 100% load, the CPU clock speed should reach 1.4Ghz as this is the specifications of the processor. (the image below only shows half). As far as I know, you should be getting 1400Mhz per core on 100% load.
If you see the same values above after running Heavyload CPU stress test, I recommend you report your findings to the Lenovo support team as to check if this is a limitation of the unit as per design or if there's a BIOS fix to correct it.
    Regards

  • Wifi dropping and slow when external USB hdd connected

    Hi,
I have a problem with Wifi connection in my Macbook Air 2014 running Yosemie 10.10.1. I have USB hub, which is plugged to power and I have connected external sound card, Apple keyboard and my external HDD (I used it as Time Machine) to it. Sometimes my Wifi starts dropping and internet is extremely slow, but when i unplugged external HDD, everything seems to be fine. I've tried 3 USB hubs, but still the same problem.
    Does anyone have similar problem?
    Thanks for any advice.

go into system prefs -> startup disk and select the disk with os x on it. that should solve the problem

  • Help - had to rebuild computer and need help w/ song transfer

OK, so my computer had to be entirely rebuilt. Everything was wiped clean. I did back up all of my iTunes music files (had to reinstall iTunes though), and I still have all of the songs on my iPod. My question is this: what is the best way to resynn my ipod with my computer? If I connect my iPod to iTunes, will everything transfer from my iPod to iTunes (i.e. will iPod overwrite iTunes)? Just looking for the easiest way to do this - thanks!

Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
However it appears that no playlists or any other info such as ratings/last played etc will transfer.
If this is important to you, you may want to use other options.
There's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod to iTunes.

  • My iPad battery indicator is no longer green. It is now either black or white on all apps and all screens except when the iPad is plugged in (then it is again green). Is this normal? I know it used to be green. What can I do to change it back?

I know the battery indicator used to be green all the time. But last night, after charging, I looked at it and the battery indicator was full (100%) and it was green, but when I pulled the plug, it became white. Still at 100% but it is now white or grey. I looked at it in different screen colors and different applications but it is always either white or black, never again green. Can someone please tell me what happened? Is there something wrong and can I get the green battery indicator back? Thanks.

I read somewhere that if the background is light, it's supposed to be green, and if the background is black, it changes to white or grey. However, mine never becomes green unless it is charged. When in a black background, it is white/grey and when in a white background, it is black. It never becomes green anymore.

  • MSI GT70 2PC Dominator Wifi Dropping

Hi there, new user here, first of all I have already read the existing post regarding wifi drops and fixes. To clarify, below are the steps that I have taken as per suggestions that i found on the net:
    1. Uninstalled the Killer Gaming Network manager program and only using the wifi/lan drivers.
    2. Re installed updated killer gaming network manager and drivers from both MSI and Killer websites.
    3. Change the maximize the power saving mode in the battery section for wireless adapter.
    4. Unable the power management settings in the network wireless via network and sharing centre.
    5. Use several different drivers via the update drivers window in network adapter (via device manager)
        - ive used the standard killer n1202 drivers.
        - ive used the qualcomm atheros wireless network adapter (both microsoft and qualcomm)
        - currently using the qualcomm atheros ar9462 802.11a/b/g/n wifi adapter
These are the steps that i've taken, one of the many that i can remember doing at the moment. Still to this day my wifi issue persist.
I refuse to believe that this is a hardware issue because the current GT70 that i am using is a brand new laptop that MSI has given me after I RMAed my earlier GT70. So you can say this is the 2nd laptop they've provided to me after making a hell lot of noise to them because my first GT70 had an unknown issue 1 week after light usage.
I've ran out of ideas on what to do, i've been sucking this up for the past 3-4 months as i cant find a fix. I've done everything i can except updating the bios, which i was advised not to since I do not know how to flash or update my bios (whichever term you call it).
My wifi drops so often and I keep having to flush my dns (using ipconfig /flushdns) every 30 mins or so just to able to use the net, much less play any games.
So i was wondering if there was any steps that I missed? Im really in desperate need for help as i no longer know what to do.
I appreciate any help that you guys can provide. Thank you very much!

Just a quick update on my wifi after installing two different 'realtek drivers' from the MSI website.
It's still too early to tell, I will update further once i start gaming.
Just incase you guys wanna install the drivers, proceed to this link:
    http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GT70-2PC-Dominator.html#down-driver&Win8.1 64
    Download this two files:
    Realtek Audio Drivers (222.21MB)
    Realtek Cardreader RTS5227-GR & RTS5249-GR (10.3MB)
PS: I downloaded the audio drivers just cause it had the name realtek in there lul!
    Keep me posted!
     UPDATE
After 2 hours of gaming and surfing the web, i didn't had to constantly flush my dns. Although my wifi bar alternates between 4 and 5 bars, im guessing this is normal (as the wireless modem isn't in my room but the room opposite mine).
So far so good, is it a coincidence? I am not too sure, give me a few more days of test run and it'll be more conclusive. I say you guys should update your drivers, no harm in trying right?

  • ATTN Macbook owners with problems. wifi drop/moo

I've called apple several times now, about the wifi drop and moo'ing issue. They forwarded me to a higher level tech right now who heard my issues, but since they are by design wasn't able to offer any fixes. He was optimistic about apple providing a fix, and was forwarding my case # to apple engineers.
He told me that the 'feedback' link on apple's site is the most direct way to get issues like these fixed. The feedback method feeds your issues, complaints and perceptions directly to people who can do something about them. He said that it is more important to have many people leave feedback with these issues than it is to have a singular ambassador speak for all.
So, I implore you, Macbook owners with issues. PLEASE leave feedback. Currently there isn't a macbook specific feedback form, he said to use the powerbook form and indicate that you are using a macbook. The form is located here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/powerbook.html
All 3 techs of various levels i've spoken too so far appear to be generally unaware of what we are talking about here in discussions.apple.com. If we're going to spin our wheels with countless threads and replies regarding these issues, the least we can do is take the time to let apple know directly.
    Thanks!
    macbook 1.83ghz/2gb Transcend @ 667mhz/60gb/combo   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I've reported the issue as well. I've owned every Mac laptop since the first Powerbook fifteen or so years ago and this MacBook Black is a fine machine, but as usual there are some issues that early adopters like us seem to have to endure!
Let's hope we can get a solution to get rid of that bovine sound ASAP.....!
Maybe they want us to listen to iTunes at top volume to drown it out -:)

  • Frustratingly, since I upgraded to Yosemite 10.10, I too am having the worst problems with WiFi dropping out. I've never had this problem before on my iMac 27-inch mid 2011 model. Turning WiFi off and then back on again sometimes works. Help please.

Frustratingly, since I upgraded to Yosemite 10.10, I too am having the worst problems with WiFi dropping out. I've never had this problem before on my iMac 27-inch mid 2011 model. Turning WiFi off and then back on again sometimes works. Help please. I've already tried a lot of your suggested fixes, but without success. Why hasn't Apple Fixed this?

Please test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take the applicable steps in this support article. The Wireless Diagnostics program generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 2
Disconnect all USB 3 devices. If you don't know which are USB 3, disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. If you find that Wi-Fi works better with Bluetooth disabled, you should use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band. Your router may not support it; in that case, you need a new router.
    Step 4
Open the Energy Saver pane in System Preferences and unlock the settings, if necessary. Select the Power Adapter  tab, if there is one. Uncheck the box marked
              Wake for Wi-Fi network access
    if it's checked.
    Step 5
Open the Network pane in System Preferences and make a note of your settings in the Wi-Fi service. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the various tabs in the preference pane. If the preference pane is locked, unlock it by clicking the padlock icon and entering your administrator password. Delete Wi-Fi from the service list on the left by selecting it and clicking the minus-sign button at the bottom. Then recreate the service by clicking the plus-sign button and following the prompts.
    Step 6
    In the Wi-Fi settings, select
              Advanced... ▹ TCP/IP ▹ Configure IPv6: Link-local
    Click OK and then Apply.
    Step 7
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 8
    Reset the PRAM.
    Step 9
Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    Step 10
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

Haven't really used any of them including VLC - actually use netflix on the ipad more than anything. I was able to drop an mp4 into imovie on my ipad and see it there. This was something I had shot as avhcd and converted with turbo.264. Played fine. Probably not what you want for a movie player though.
Well, turbo.264 is indeed very nice to have - even for converting full-sized movies. (Nevertheless, TechRadar's latest roundup (see http://www.techradar.com/news/software/applications/6-of-the-best-video-converte rs-for-mac-1074303 ; also linked from another roundup at http://www.iphonelife.com/blog/87/benchmark-excellent-multimedia-converter-handb rake-vs-commercial-apps ) has shown it's still worse than HandBrake in most respects.)
All H.264 files (assuming they are H.264 level 4.1 or lower) are compatible with the built-in Videos app.

Those of you who use other players, what do you reccomend? Just curious.
It entirely depends on your needs. The top players (AVPlayerHD / ProPlayer, It's Playing, GoodPlayer) all have different strengths and weaknesses. I myself use It's Playing the most as I convert everything into MP4 and simply love the DSP's (brightness / volume / saturation boosting). (Its software decoders are definitely worse than those of AVPlayerHD / ProPlayer; however, MP4's are played back from hardware.)
