Wifi dropping issue

I have a MBP and when I let it go to sleep it will drop the wifi when I wake it up. Does anyone have a solution? Thanks.

Go to Network System Preferences and click the Advanced button;
From the Wi-Fi tab, delete all the known networks
Return to the main Network display and delete Wi-Fi from the Services list.
Finally, add a new Wi-Fi service (by clicking the + icon at the bottom of the list section).

  • Has New Router or Antenna Helped WiFi Dropping Issues?

Hi, I'm helping someone get setup with their brand new MacBook (2.26Ghz White). It's only 3 days old, but could not reliably connect to their wireless network anywhere except in the same room as their router. They have a Netgear WGR614 router.
When in the room with the router, everything works great, but once out in the main living room (just down a very short hallway), they get constant dropouts or the computer won't connect at all. I would say it connects maybe 10% of the time. But an old PC laptop, my Android phone, and the living room TiVo all connect perfectly and never drop out, no matter where we walk.
I've read through some of the threads, and most are concerning older machines. But I spent a couple hours with 2nd level Apple tech support today, and they concluded after much testing that it may be hardware related. So we ended up taking it back to day and swapping for a completely new machine (instead of having the Airport card replaced). But this machine has the SAME EXACT PROBLEM!
My signal strength in the main area averages around -60 to -70, which should be fine to connect. And it appears to be on a pretty clear channel.
    - So, if it's not hardware related (or if all MacBooks will have this same issue), I'm wondering what other solutions people have tried that has given some success?
    - Anyone try extension antennas for their routers? If so, which work well and are affordable?
    - How about specific routers known to work well with Mac (better than Netgear)? The Airport Extreme BS is just too expensive for what it offers.
THANKS! If we can't get this working in this small, basic setup, we'll probably have to try something other than Mac unfortunately.

But what's really ticking me off, is the Xfinity hotspot broadcasting just fine. Hadn't gotten around to turning it off yet. Hey Comcast, what gives!!!Your decision on the public hotspot on your equipment...me ?  I turned it off....Have you used a wireless scanner to see if you are getting stomped on by surrounding wifi APs?   Channel congestion can impact your system....

  • Is there a fix for the iPad2/iOS7 WiFi dropping issue yet?

After searching through Many threads regarding iPad2 Wi-Fi issues, I have found a lot of different "solutions" and I've tried them ALL but my Wi-Fi is STILL dropping out on me all the time. My iPad is running iOS version 7.1.2. I am constantly getting errors like
"We were unable to connect to the servers. Please try again later."
    or
    "Internet Connection Lost",
or i try to download an app and it just spins for a minute then acts as though nothing happened and the app never installs. I literally can't use any of my apps and the only way to reliably download them onto my iPad is to push it over from itunes with the ipad plugged in via usb after downloading it on my computer.
    I have tried:
1-Checking connection settings (airplane mode Off, wifi connected to correct secure home network, bluetooth Off, mobile data Off)
    2-rebooting ipad
3-making sure there's nothing running in the background by double-tapping the home button
4-removing an apostrophe from the ipad name.
5-putting the ipad into Airplane mode and then going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
6-going to Settings > Control Center and disable Access on Lock Screen then turning ipad off and on again.
    7-updating router firmware
8-doing a factory reset, then repeating steps 1 through 6
Any other ideas?? I really need to make this work! Any help will greatly appreciated.

8-doing a factory reset, then repeating steps 1 through 6
Do you mean a restore to factory settings?. If so did you set up as new or restore from back up afterwards?

  • Wifi dropping issues on mac os x lion

I have a mac my wifi work fine and so as my other computers and iphones and so on. But as soon as i upgraded to to mac os x lion my wifi started to drop  and lose wifi range no i can only use wifi close to my dsl which is sensless but thats the only way i can connect to the internet. Then i said its probably my router so i changed my router to att uverse and it stil did the same thing.. I then called apple support the couldn't help me they said it might be a environment thing blocking my wifi range but i told them all the rest of my computers are on my wifi are working fine and he was like it can't be the the software or a hardware problem but i think theres a bug on mac os x lion that messes up your airport card to get long range wifi signal.. so if anybody else is having problems like me please let me know... or if you have an issue to fix this contact me

Click here and follow the instructions, or use the computer’s original disks(if any), or buy an iLife 11 DVD from a source such as Amazon or eBay.

  • Z3 wifi dropping issue, im a new android user.

     Hi all,
So ive just moved to android from iOS. But anyway in the quick settings on my z3 my wifi is turned on. When im connected to a wifi network the phone works perfectly.
My issue is that the wifi turns itself off when I leave my home or workplace. i.e. When im not connected to wifi and im outside it turns itself off. Now my question is that normal? After some testing I noticed the issue is intermittent and it turns on and off everynow and then when im not connected to wifi.
Coming from an engineering background I would initially suspect its a fault with the wifi chip however I dont want to jump ahead just yet.
    My settings are:
    Network notification: On(ticked)
Keep wifi on during sleep: Always
    Scanning always available: Off(not ticked)
    Avoid poor connections: On
    rest is standard.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Just curios is that a guess or actually a resolution to the problem. Reason I ask is because it says that google apps can search for wifi which im not liking the sound of. As I said im a new droid user

  • WiFi Dropping issue with Lion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just got off phone with support and they informed me it has to be my router causing the issue. Now I just bought the iMac on sunday and its my first Mac. My PC had no problems with the network or the wireless printer, But now I guess my router is bad, Lol. Wonder if anyone else got the problem fixed. New Lion update did not fix my Wifi issue.
Love my new mac!  Thats sarcasm
Thank god Apple has 14 day return policy, might need to use that and go buy a HP.

Have to admit I feel your pain. I had an old Netgear that worked great with iPods, MacBooks, in-laws PCs when they visited. Then I upgraded to a new MBP and it wouldn't stay connected. Long story short, I broke down and bought a refurbished dualband Airport Extreme and after a little tweaking it has been running perfectly, including a 5Gz band that is very fast (not any faster on Internet, but home network file transfer is faster). I read volumes of info about this problem and came to the conclusion that either Macs are getting pickier and pickier regarding wireless (innocent answer) or Apple wants us to buy Apple stuff (not so innocent answer). So they got $129 out of me that I felt I shouldn't have had to spend, but it is seamless and works great. And I've also read others who got an Airport Extreme and still had problems. Wireless stuff can be very complex.

  • Wifi dropping (27-inch, Late 2012)

    Hi,
I purchased a late-2012 iMac a few months ago (brand new, from a physical Apple store), and since I've had it, it's had this problem of randomly dropping my wifi connection.
I've googled this issue and it seems to be a common thing. I've tried a couple different solutions (e.g. creating a new Location in Network preferences; setting the Service Order so that Wi-Fi is on top; changing the Wi-Fi Hardware MTU from 1400 to 1500), but none seem to fix the problem permanently.
Last night, I was trying to upload a 10mb file over FTP and my wifi connection was dropped every minute (no exaggeration), so I quit and tried again this morning. Sometimes it happens frequently, like last night, other times it'll happen maybe once in the day.
Has anyone else encountered this wifi dropping issue with their iMac, and if so, what have you tried to fix this problem?
    Thanks,
    Derek

I have been having this problem with just one of our iMacs in our house.  I went through Apple support and navigated through all the twists and turns they suggestedto try to get the problem solved.  NOTHING WORKED.  THEY DON"T KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.  BUT I DO!  Unfortunately it involves buying a $30 wireless ethernet adapter (I got an IOGEAR, and I have no connection to their company.  Probably any wireless ethernet adapter will work).  I turned off the internal airport wireless device and through the network settings in the system preferences connected to my CISCO LYNKSYS ROUTER (which has been bashed left and right in the forums here).  THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED!!!!!   NO RESTARTING!!!  NO DROPPED CONNECTIONS!!!!
So the problem isn't with the router, its with the airport wireless adapter in the iMac.  It ***** to have to spend more money after you lay out so much for an apple product, but it sure beats restarting the computer over and over every day.
Hope this helps my friends out there.  I can now allow my hair to repopulate my head since I've been pulling it out over this issue for months.

  • New wrv210 issues, wifi drops, reboots

I just purchased a couple of these routers. One for home and for some business clients. So far I have only setup one at home and am kind of disappointed. I can consistently make the wifi drop by clicking to different menu items in the web config gui. In these cases, my wifi clients drop and cannot reconnect, even though the my ssid is still being broadcast by the router, but all clients on the ethernet switch can still ping the router and access the internet. A reboot is required to allow wireless clients to associate. For example, last night my browser was refreshing on the System Performance page for about 20 minutes. I clicked onto Router status and all wifi clients drop. If there is no easy solution to this I will get more technical information (packet captures of 802.11 association, wpa handshakes, etc).
In other cases, using the web interface will cause the router to reboot. I have a syslog server setup (on ethernet) but it doesn't receive anything except for URL Detections and New Connections.
I have a pretty simple setup at home, one ssid, 802.11b/g, wpa2 personal (I've tried Personal Mixed, too). The router seems to be running the latest firmware (2.0.0.11) and a recent hw revision (WRTR-221G_V01).
I am heading to a client location to setup the 2nd wrv210 now. Are these known issues? Are there any solutions?

    Hi,
The guys at Cisco Small Biz Support are great and RMA'd that first router. So I received the replacement yesterday and set it up. It's performing a lot better than the last one, except I get random reboots/lockups. Firmware 2.0.0.11. The remote syslog seems to work though, so I gathered some evidence last night while I was out to dinner (so network activity was idle/light, 192.168.2.1 is the wrv210 IP):
    Mar 31 19:33:36 192.168.2.1 klogd: Packet type : 0 -- free socket buffer only

    Mar 31 19:40:08 syslogd started: BusyBox v1.01 (2009.06.03-11:15+0000)
So a random restart while I wasn't home at 19:40 (PST), router restarts, boots, pppoe session starts (at&t adsl). I can see random iphones/wifi clients associating then the logs fill with:

and again about 50 mins later. This happened all night.
I can only guess that some buffer is filling up and causing a restart. The funny thing is this happens less often while the network is utilized. I'd like to help figure this problem out any way I can. I've done the factory reset and re-configured. I'm about to try that again.
I also disabled the DoS attack stuff because:
Mar 31 12:18:59 192.168.2.1 [DoS] [Detected UDP Land Attack] (UDP) Incomming Source:76.214.xxx:33445 Destination:76.214.xxx:51414 [Droped]
the router was getting some strange false positives (same src/dst IP, my wan interface). Also it doesn't inspire a lot of confidence that there are typo's in the firmware! "Incomming" and "Droped"
    Thanks in advance,

  • HP Slate 21 Pro: WiFi connection issues

    Hi,
I recently ordered two HP Slate 21 Pro devices. Unfortunately, both of them have WiFi connection issues. After some time the properly configured WiFi connection will be dropped, which results in connectionless devices. The WiFi AP is disabled after this, and so a timed reconnect will not succeed.
After inspecting the Logcat I found following lines:

    Thanks in advance,
    Christian

    That really shouldn't affect it.
I'm a little stumped because I haven't seen this issue with this device before. The only similar issue I found was this, and it's unresolved.
Have you tried doing a hard reboot of the Slate 21?
I work on behalf of HP (But this isn't my job)

  • IOS 8.1.2 on iphone 6 Wifi drops and doesnt reconnect

    Hi,
I had the an issue with wifi dropping and not reconnecting automatically on my iphone 6 with ios 8.1.2
The wifi was disconnecting every minutes even when the screen was not locked. I had to go back to wifi settings and reselect the network I want
I tried all the tips available (forget network, reset network setting, reboot phone, disable location, disable air drop/bluetooth, etc)
This was happening mostly in hotels with annoying DNS that redirects you to a web page to login with name/room # so changing wifi router settings was not an option
I finally set up static IP adress as mentionned in another post and now my wifi is stable for 3h (and reconnects works too)... thanks
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6554548?tstart=0
I have resolved this issue on my new iPhone6 as follows. My router is a fairly old Belkin in this case.
    1) on iPhone in settings, WiFi, forget this network
    2) select the network again and select the blue i button
    3) Log in to your ADSL router from another device and note network and DNS settings
    4) on iPhone reconfigure using Static settings rather than DHCP (thats what I did anyway)
    5) Log in to your ADSL router again and restart it or power it down and up again
    6) on iPhone reconnect to the WiFi when it restarts
Now everything seems to be ok with the iPhone connected and staying connected.
However this is more a patch than a fix because when I leave the hotel (or any wifi network), the router will assign my static IP to someone else end when I come back it wont work anymore,
My guess is that IOS 8 has problems reconnecting to a router when a new IP address is leased.
The fact that the signal is weak might also affect the frequency at which the ip is renewed
FYI, I have always been a android user and just switched to apple... Not impressed. Hope this is fixed shortly

    Jay,
I've tried most everything as well (including new router before I realized it wasn't our iphone 5's but IOS 8 updates. After turning off LTE and Data Roaming in the Cellular settings, things work much better. WiFi stays connected. Have since re-enabled LTE and it still works. Tried a dozen other "recommendations"; it may have been a combination of things. Still not blazing speed, but tolerable. Just wish 8.1.3 had the fix (from what I've seen today, it's not fixed). Be glad you're not having the SIRI hands-free problem; she won't connect calls in one car and has problems connecting in the other car. About as many have this problem as the wifi snafu that came with IOS 8.

  • GP70 2PE Leopard WiFi drops

    Hello
I've been having WiFi drops with this laptop at random intervals. It is probably an issue with the WiFi drivers. Is there any post about this issue already, that states the correct drivers to fix this problem?
    Regards,
    Niels

Hey, I've used the manual to improve/stabilize my internet connection. There still are some small drops in the connection and sometimes it is completely gone, turning on and off the WiFi on this laptop instantly restores the connection.
The router I am using is this one:

  • Wifi drops constantly on WPA enterprise wifi on my campus

    Hello,
I own a macbook pro retina mid 2012 on maverick. The wifi drops constantly on campus, it's a WPA enterprise wifi. The wifi seems to work fine at home. My computer has been sent to an apple store twice for this issue already, I got it back but it is still not working and i spent more than 3 hours on the phone with apple trying to solve that issue. They made me run a lot of stuff, got me to send them files so that their engineers could work on them.
Bottom of the story, they tell me that the problem must come from my university wifi, a wifi network used by 50 000 students every single day and everyone is fine with it ...
I have been to the computer help desk on campus and they had no idea what to do.
So please if anyone has any hint, i would greatly appreciate as I lost faith in apple "engineers" and their skills.
    Thanks guys.

    Hi  ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!
I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY 15-k233ca Notebook and issues with the WiFi dropping constantly. Try this fix.
Go to device manager, the Network adapters WiFi driver properties power management
Allow this computer to turn off wifi to save power, uncheck it and restart the Notebook. Hope this helps. Thanks.

  • New Time Capsule Gen4 Wifi drops

the 1. old TC 1. Gen a lo of problems with Power Supply, Backup but the Wifi works over 3 Years well.
now i get a new TC Gen4, but Wifi will not work stable. After few hours, mostly in evening, Wifi drop the internet Session on Ipad's.
i changed the TC in a new one, similar problem, i upgraded to 7.6.1 ... similar problem.
i discoussions here a lot of Wifi issues are reported, no one get a solution i tried all the tips ... not solving the pain.
older firmware are referenced to get more stable, but there is no link on apple's support page -> if you get a link, please give me ex. 7.5.1/2 are bether.
older firmware does have a bullet more under option -> something like "interference sensibility". maybe this would help.
old TC was fine, same area, same time, new TC and replaced TC is bad -> please apple its yours to fix this!!
any serios solution its helpfull, now i tried over 5 days all options, channels ... its worst!
    thanks

You need 5.6 utilty for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Then when you select to update the firmware, hold down the options key.. the link to the older firmware opens and you can select.. but the new Gen4 might not go back if it was originally supplied to you with 7.6 firmware.
Use the old Gen 1 for wireless. Just use a 5v power supply hard wired to the internal board plug. The TC will run forever with a simple external 5v 3A power supply.

  • Constant wifi drop & disconnect

My one month old iMac does not maintain an interent connection for very long. Sometimes it stays connected for <maybe> an hour, but  MORE often it drops either the wifi signal all together or just stops connecting to the internet... when it does seem to have a connection it is VERY slow.
My solution: turn off Wifi wait a few seconds and turn it back on... which is very annoying, but that fixes it.
I have the latest software across the board. I'm running wifi on Time machine. My signal is strong. I have a Powerbook and iPad that connects to it without issues (for a couple of years its been fine until this iMac problem).
    Any suggestions?

There are actually many threads on this subject around here, like this one:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3190651?start=0&tstart=0
There are also many articles on Lion wifi drops. Here are my two cents:
I have a 4 month old iMac running Lion and for the first three months it worked beautifully, but I started having problems with my internet provider and they sent over a technician who changed my modem/router to a new one and configured a new network. He never even touched my iMac, it was all done on one of the PCs in my house, and immediately after that my iMac started dropping the connection all the time. All the other computers in the house (pc and Snow Leopard mac) are working fine.
I have read a thousand threads on this subject and apparently it is a known issue with Lion. There are many suggestions for solutions and I've tried every single one of them, including removing the network in the system preferences panel and then adding it back; or adding DNS servers to the DNS list; or changing the channel on your network (it should be lower than 11). If you search for threads here you'll find many of these supposed solutions, so I'm going to cut to the chase. The only one that worked for me is this:
Open Terminal (type Terminal into Spotlight)
Paste the following line exactly as is into the Terminal window:
      ping `route get default | awk '(/gateway/){print $2}'`
    Press enter
DON'T close the Terminal window. Just press cmd+H to hide it and leave it running in the background.
It is NOT a permanent solution and you have to do it every time you restart your computer, and you have to keep Terminal running on the background. It is a huge pain, but I find that connection drops every 10 minutes is an even bigger pain. Basically what this command does is send signals to the modem every couple of seconds so that the connection doesn't drop from being inactive. It won't affect anything else on your computer and it's not very system-consuming.
This seems to be the only way to have a steady connection for now, until Apple addresses the situation. They just issued an update regarding this issue last week or so, so I suggest you try to keep your system as updated as possible. This update only worked for me till my next startup, though.
However, like I said the problem only started after the technician changed my modem/router and network, so I suspect this is not a Lion problem, but a network problem. The only different thing I can think of that was done with the new network is that I used to have a WEP password and now I have a WPA2 Personal password. I intend to delete this new network and create a new one from scratch, but I haven't had the time yet. I suspect though that there could be some incompatibility with the actual machine (the modem/router), and not the network. I have not found any info on this and have not yet been able to figure out.
I hope this helps, if I find out something more I'll post about it, but in the meantime check out the other threads and google some articles, there are many different answers and opinions on this.

    http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/desktop/h1100369.exe
Now open Device Manager and rightclick uninstall on your Braoadcom wifi
When presented with a promted to delete driver software, Place a check on that box.
Click on Action on top of Device Manager and click on Scan for hardware changes,
Repeat the steps from the beginning  until you dont have a checkbox on the delete driver driver software box
Restart the computer and install the driver I asked you download Earlier.
Reconnect to your wifi and See if that one will work.
