Wifi dropping out on imac

My imac is constantly dropping my Wifi connection and I have to reboot my imac every time, shut down the modem and DLink router to reconnect.
I'm running Mac OS X 10.7.4

Is that Interface dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations.
If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.

  • Intermittant wifi drop-out on IMac 21', latest model?

I have an intermittant wifi drop-out on my IMac. This is the latest version IMac purchased just over 3 months ago!
The drop-out appears to be similar to wifi turning itself off and then back on.

  • Wifi Drop-out when iMac wakes from sleep

My iMac does not connect when waking from sleep. I have to turn the airport off and on every time. Its been doing it since last October when i installed Lion. I had hoped it would be fixed with an update but no such luck. I have seen similar posts but no suggestions to fix it. Anyone have any ideas?

Searching the web for "appcode.hex" the first item that I found was for something related to an Olevia TV.

Frustratingly, since I upgraded to Yosemite 10.10, I too am having the worst problems with WiFi dropping out. I've never had this problem before on my iMac 27-inch mid 2011 model. Turning WiFi off and then back on again sometimes works. Help please. I've already tried a lot of your suggested fixes, but without success. Why hasn't Apple Fixed this?

Please test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take the applicable steps in this support article. The Wireless Diagnostics program generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 2
Disconnect all USB 3 devices. If you don't know which are USB 3, disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. If you find that Wi-Fi works better with Bluetooth disabled, you should use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band. Your router may not support it; in that case, you need a new router.
    Step 4
Open the Energy Saver pane in System Preferences and unlock the settings, if necessary. Select the Power Adapter  tab, if there is one. Uncheck the box marked
              Wake for Wi-Fi network access
    if it's checked.
    Step 5
Open the Network pane in System Preferences and make a note of your settings in the Wi-Fi service. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the various tabs in the preference pane. If the preference pane is locked, unlock it by clicking the padlock icon and entering your administrator password. Delete Wi-Fi from the service list on the left by selecting it and clicking the minus-sign button at the bottom. Then recreate the service by clicking the plus-sign button and following the prompts.
    Step 6
    In the Wi-Fi settings, select
              Advanced... ▹ TCP/IP ▹ Configure IPv6: Link-local
    Click OK and then Apply.
    Step 7
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 8
    Reset the PRAM.
    Step 9
Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    Step 10
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

  • Remote app wifi drops out constantly

    Hello,
Just a quick question - When I use the Remote app on my iPhone the wifi drops out all the time. I'll open up the application, it works fine, I change a song, then after 2 or 3 minutes I'll go back to put on a different song and get the Cannot connect to iTunes screen. Also the wifi icon up the top of my iPhone isn't on. I can fix this by going in to Settings > Wifi and it finds the network, then I can go back in to the remote app but obviously this is annoying to do every time I want to change a song.
I'm not using a router, just created a wireless network for my phone through Aiport on my mac. What turns the wifi connection off after a while if it's not constant in use, is it the computer or iPhone?
What settings can I change so that this connection is constant? And yes the stay connected setting in the remote app is turned on.
Thanks for any help : )

I'm experiencing the same problem. I recently got the latest gen Apple TV. I couldn't believe the instability of the Remote app's connection to the Apple TV.
Prior to the new ATV, I used a Mini and Front Row and the previous version of the Remote app worked flawlessly. Once connected, I could lock my phone and come back to it periodically and it was always connected in would respond near instantly.
Now unfortunately, every time I lock the phone the remote app loses the connection and I have to wait for it to find the ATV, restore the connection, load the library. It's maddening. I mean the AirPlay stuff is great but a stable consistent connection is the foundation to everything.

Additionally I've noticed that periodically my wifi will drop out, and when I go to Airport Utility my Extreme is unavailable.  I don't know if this error and the two the wifi drop outs are linked or not.  At first I thought it was the new firmware for the basestation, but now I'm not so sure because last time I launched airport utility and the extreme was unavailable I saw the basestation come back on line.
One final note.  I have a home server on a mac mini (ML Server essentially for ituens shared liberary).  All the macs access this server.
    Thanks in advance

    From the menu bar, select
               ▹ About This Mac
Below the "OS X" legend in the window that opens, the OS version appears. Click the version line twice to display the serial number. If the number is missing or invalid according to this web form, take the machine to an Apple Store or other authorized service center to have the problem corrected.

  • IMac G5 iSight and the new Magic Mouse - WiFi dropping out.

The G5 with iSight seems to be unique amongst Apple computers, in that it shares the WiFi with the Bluetooth on a single compound card. I have not tested this out completely but it certainly seems to be the case that the Magic Mouse when left, having finished a session on the iMac, will after a few hours 'power down'. When it does so, sharing the WiFi, it will disable the wireless communication. I can find no known settings to avoid this from happening.
If I had dropped my iMac into sleep mode and woken it with a click of the mouse, all would be fine, however with my G5 downloading a file in the background, to come back and find the wireless has 'dropped out' is disconcerting to say the least.
Usually the WiFi can be re-established by turning it off and on again, then re finding my router (a TC in the other room) and all is well again for another 'period of time', which I can only guesstimate to be a couple of hours. However occasionally I will have to 'Restart' the iMac to get back to a working system. This is something I only ever really have to do with my work PC; I have NEVER had to do this on the iMac before. This is a quaint but annoying Windows thing and should not occur on a Mac. (This last phrase is slightly tongue in cheek!).
The WiFi link to my work PC via the TC is never compromised, which pointed the finger to the new magic mouse. I run the last version of Leopard for the PPC processors, 10.5.8 and have loaded the magic mouse driver software.
Has anyone else seen this happen?
Has anyone else got a solution, other than not using the Magic Mouse?

I did not see resetting PRAM mentioned yet, so if not done already, do that
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
plus this procedure to reset SMU (power management)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1767
Be sure to follow it precisely. When you reconnect the power cord, if you are using a crowded or old power strip, connect it directly to a wall outlet for this test. Power it up with nothing connected except power cord and once it starts up, connect only your keyboard/mouse (no other USB/FireWire peripherals). Try using it that way to see if the problem still recurs.
The only other suggestion I have is, if you have a external FireWire drive that you can erase (or create a small partition on), install a fresh Leopard installation on it. Start up from it and see if this problem still recurs.
Alternately, back up your data, erase (re-partition and reformat) the interal drive, and reinstall Leopard on the internal drive, then give it a try. If you clone (using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper) to an external FireWire drive as your backup, you can still boot from your current installation (on the external drive). If the fresh installation test does NOT work, you can clone your clone back to the internal drive. If it does work with a fresh installation, you can keep using it and transfer just your user data back from the clone.

  • WIFI DROPS OUT AFTER MOUNTAIN LION UPDATE

Since upgrade to mountain lion my wifi keeps dropping out after sleep i have ipad and that is ok.

Had the same problem and this worked for me:
    Try deleting following two items:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.db
Make sure you take a screenshot of your current dock since deleting these files will reset your dock to default.
Now open terminal and do a sudo reboot w/ your password.
This solved the problem for me.

  • Wifi drops outs

Hello, over the past few weeks I have noticed that when I have BT fon and BT openzone turned on. The wifi on my bt home hub 2 tends to drop out a lot more and the signal not be as strong. Nearly twice a day my laptop and other wifi equipment around the house will disconnect from the router and wont reconnect for a good 2 to 5 minuets. But when I have bt FON and openzone turned off on the hub. The wifi never disconnects ever.
I have used inssider to see if there are any other routers causing interference. But I can only pick up one other and that's extremely low signal and on a different wifi channel.
Is there anything i can do to help stop this wifi disconection with bt fon turned on.?
    Thanks
    Thanks
    Solved!

What is probably happening is that your devices are trying to connect to BTOpenzone or BTFON isstead of your main SSID. This is a very common probem and there is some help on the link below.

  • Wifi drop outs

Hi, its me again, having just recieved a new hh3 as my last was faulty, i find that the wifi keeps dropping out at random intervals some times 15 seconds all the way up to 3 or 4 minutes, when it does this the blue wifi light on the front of the hub goes out for a second, i have tried every single channel, 802.11 b/g, and a factory reset, is it faulty ? i havent the time to spend an hour on the phone to tech support, should add it drops multiple devices all at the same time not just one.

Ha, this is actually funny, i got some time to ring tech support, told them the above problem he started doing tests, starts to tell me the problem is my white open reach modem, i say no way, he says it is defiantly without a doubt the open reach modem, i say hold on i had thie hh3 replaced yesterday, for a different reason but we wont get into that, so i plug in the old hh3 and everything is dandy, i say see it works its not the open reach modem, he then lost the ability to speak anymore so i hung up, talk about chocolate fireguard.

  • Anyone know why internet drops out for iMac but not ipad or iphone? Thanks

I have been trying to download Mountain Lion and  I keep getting 'an error has occured' after about 40 mins or an hour.  Then I notice that the iMac is not connected to the Internet.  However the iPad and iPhone are (using airport).  I am using ethernet adapters which are paired.  I have also taken my 24inch iMac out of the study and into the hall and connected it directly to the router using an ethernet cable with still the same result. I have been on the Apple helpline to a high level but they have been unable to sort it out and we've checked most things. I have plenty of capacity on the iMac so it should take the Mountain Lion ios easily.  I have checked the broadband speed and it was 6.21 (using the ethernet adaptors).  Could there be a conflict somewhere between the iMac and the BT broadband?  It does seem to drop out when we listen to our Sonos system too. Please help. Thanks, Fioled

Downloading Moutain Lion requires a high speed broadband connection.
6.21 will never work. That is not broadband.
Make certain your Mac can run Mountain Lion > System requirements for OS X Mountain Lion
Check your download speed here > Speedtest.net by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test
Anything less than 15Mbps will not be fast enough to download Mountain Lion. It's a 4.35GB (approximately) file. That will time out on a slow connection.

  • 4S Wifi dropped out. How can I make a complaint?

I've had my iPhone 4S just over a year and its dropped out of wifi (typical..?!) I done some research and reset my network settings, which did temporarily solve the problem (for 1 day!?!?!) but now it has dropped out again and resetting it doesn't solve the issue. I use my phone all day every day as part of my job and not having a wifi connection is eating into my data allowance therefore costing me more money each month!!
The amount that the phone is worth and after paying £40 a month for my contract I am utterly disgusted that there is no solution to this. It would appear that apple are more than aware of the common fault with the 4s but aren't willing to recall or sort the issue out. I love my iPhone and am shocked at the poor customer service and product standard that is on offer. I would grin and bear it but I can't upgrade my phone until 1st July 2014 (yes my phone is ONLY 1 month out of the warranty!!!!) and to be honest I wouldn't like to trust another 4s!!
How can I make a complaint and has anyone else been struggling with this too???!!

Take the device to an Apple Store and pay for the out-of-warranty replacement fee which is $199 usd, not quite sure the price in your currency. Maybe you should have also purchase an applecare plan, how many other cell phone companies give you a 1 year hardware warranty for free? I for one cant think of any, just because it failed a month after you warranty was over has no relevance to anything. And yes you can make a complaint if you really wish too, but if you take a step back and thing about things you will realize that a mobile device working perfectly for over a year in this age of obseletism really isnt that bad. • Airport extreme drops out on imac, but not on powerbook....

    Hi
    Here's what i have running.
A 4 year old powerbook which always connects just fine to the internet, with no dropping of the signal.
A new imac with a airport extreme built in. It regularly just drops the internet connection, even though the internet is seen perfectly by the other machine.
Router is a standard netgear router virgin media provide.
Periodically, and some days it will be totally fine, but mostly on the weekends (like now) the signal on the imac just drops out (from perfect 4 bars, to none) and i lose access to the internet on this machine (very annoying when you are trying to talk to someone on skype!). after some time it reappears, only to drop out again.
I have reset the modem to automatically select a wireless channel, but that seems to have done nothing. So following the advise on other chats here, i set the channel to 10. However the problem remains. I thought, well, maybe its the wireless phone, or the microwave, but these do not seem to affect the internet connection to the powerbook g4. The software updater for the "airport utility" claims it is up to date.
And now i am totally lost as to what to do! Any suggestions? Thanks

I have this very same issue. Reproducable on 2 laptops (ibook and powerbook), both 10.4.3, to 2 separate ftp servers.
    Transmit fails as well.
Fetch, however, seems to work just fine. Does Fetch not use the underlying ftp command line app?
Transferring small files (under 1k) seems to work though.
The message I get is as follows:
421 Service not available, remote server timed out. Connection closed
Timesout for 10-20 seconds, then I get the message. Setting the transfer mode to "binary" manually seems to correct the issue. But this won't work for what I'm doing (Dreamweaver, which must use the command line ftp?).
Attempting to ftp the same files from my local Solaris and Linux servers seems to work just fine.
    sftp works.
    Apple? Is ftp broken?

    Previous steps tried:
Turning wifi off on MacBook for 30 Seconds - 1 Minute
Forgetting the Hub and reconnecting to it.
    Resetting the Hub
    Restarting MacBook
    Punching MacBook
None of Which have worked yet, if anyone has any solutions, could you help me out because I don't know what else to try.

Yes, it could be the home hub 2.
