Wifi drops connection sporadic (MBP 13" Retina late 2013)

Hi,
my problem:
The Wifi connection drops every 10-20 minutes, sometimes even more often, and reconnects automatically after a few seconds. When the Wifi is connected it shows full connectivity. There are about 10 other devices in the network, none of them has the same problems - the connection is perfectly fine with every other device in the Network.
my setup:
The router is a Apple Time Capsule (newest generation) there are NO other wireless networks in my area - my wireless network is the only one i see in the list of available networks, so no interference with other networks possible.
what i already tried:
I completely wiped my hard drive and installed OSX Yosemite - the system is clean, no iCloud or Time Machine Backups!
I'm quite sure it's a hardware problem. I hope for some infos whats the next step from here?
Thanks.

Hi Moriartie,
I read your problem carefully. From the above stated problem I can assure you that your macs hardware is perfectly fine because even I
have a 13’’ retina macbook pro late 2013 model running Mavericks and it absolutely works like a charm.
The only mistake you did is by upgrading to Yosemite from Mavericks. Currently, I am running Mavericks version 10.9.5 and the machine is working flawlessly
without any hardware or software issues.
Just see in the comments section of Yosemite in the App Store of people complaining about their macs Wi-Fi issues after upgrading to Yosemite from Mavericks ( They had no Wi-Fi issues on Mavericks, late 2013 rMBP).
The only way right now is to return back to Mavericks some how until the Wi-fi bug issues get sorted out on Yosemite. Hope this might help. Sorry for the late reply.
Regards,
Grane Duke.

  • SSD in MBP 13" Retina Late 2013 doesn't work - Can't boot at all

I have a new MacBook Pro 13" Retina which works flawlessly. It has a factory installed 512 GB SSD, which also works flawlessly. Then I bought basically the same type of 512 GB SSD, 2nd hand but new, which I intended to install in another MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013.
The seller told me it is compatible with the MBP Retina Late 2013, but when installed, the known to be good MBPR doesn't boot. Not from that SSD, not from an attached USD HDD which has two perfectly bootable Mavericks partitions. When pressing the alt-Key on booting, I can however see two partitions on that SSD (Mac OS X 10.8.4 and a Recovery Partition), yet it is not booting at all, thus also doesn't allow me to inspect or treat this SSD with Disk Utility or other tools.
All I get is the grey screen with the striked through circle sign (see attached image). I've tried both, PRAM reset and SMC reset, no change.
Here comes the interesting part: Although both SSD look identical, they have slightly different model and part numbers (see attached image).
Working, factory installed SSD: Model MZ-JPUS512T/0A6. Part No. 665-1805D
    Non-booting, 2nd hand SSD: Model MZ-JPUS512T/0A2. Part No. 665-1805A
Any ideas what’s going on here and how to solve this?

    Excellent point! Mac OS X 10.9.1 doesn’t equal Mac OS X 10.9.1!
Back in the bad old days of Mac OS X Install DVDs, I was aware of the fact that there were different versions of the OS X Installer testing against the Mac ID to make sure that bundled versions get only installed on those Macs which the DVD came with. And the DVD where clearly labeled in that sense.
Now in the days of Internet download and installation from USB sticks, SSD and HDD, one completely forgets about this. On the other hand, with Mavericks being free, I don’t understand the need for such limitations, and not at least the recovery partition allows booting any Mac which supports Mavericks.
When you boot with the alt-Key pressed and you see at least one partition with Mac OS X 10.9.1, one just doesn’t understand why the heck the Mac doesn’t boot. Now I do. Apple would be well advised to simply add a short info line, like „This version of Mac OS X is missing components to boot this Mac. Please re-install from the AppStore using this computer“. It would take out A LOT of guesswork.
Anyhow… I booted the MBPR using the working SSD, installed Mavericks from the AppStore on the external USB HDD, switched the SSDs, booted from the external USD HDD’s now bootable 10.9.1 Recovery Partition, wiped the suspicious non-booting SSD and installed Mavericks. No further problems. (Completely forgot about the CMD-OPT-R Internet Recover Mode keg55 has mentioned…)
    Thanks for the hint!

  • MBP 13 Retina Late 2013 - Virtual Machine on 4 GB Ram Good enough?

    Hello,
I'm new to Macs and Mac OS all together. I was wondering if having 4 GB ram is good enough to run VM? I simply wanted to play South Park: Stick of Truth. I might run other small games but nothing demanding.
Secondary question is how about running Windows simply for minor programming and other minimal tasks.
My Laptop is the base model.
    Thank You

Yes, Vm lets you sett how much memory you would like to dedicate to the platform. So you should be running it with 2gb on Mac and 2gb on your Vm. If you ever run more games that would require more RAM space I would recomend upgrading to 8gb.

  • WLAN trouble MBP Retina Late 2013

    Hi,
for months now I am suffering from the following problem:
    WLAN connections dropping
reconnects sometimes do not work immediately but result in the "cannot connect" message. After several tries this works.
If a connection is established pings (in the LAN) in the beginning are extremely high and after several seconds to minutes normalize themselves:

This happens with all sorts of with WLAN stations:
    public hotspots
    Airport Extreme
    UniFi systems
    mobile personal hotspots
    Aerohive
    etc.
So I doubt it is a configuration problem on the WLAN. Moreover I cannot reproduce this in the same environments with other Apple products (Macbook Air, iPhone). It happens with 10.9 and 10.10. Is there any idea what might be causing this? I have no USB3 attached. Yes bluetooth is on and I still have to figure out if it only happens in the 2.4Ghz band. However even if it is 2.4Ghz related again: Other systems operating on 2.4Ghz nearby do not have these problems. Moreover 802.11ac is working however even sitting 3m away from a suitable AC access point with direct line of sight does not guarantee me to get a AC connection. Somehow I suspect this to be a driver or even hardware problem.
    Kind regards,
      JP

Hello everyone, I have been trying all solutions to this problem with no success. Finally I tried downloading the driver from NVIDIA, this required me to allow NVIDIA to scan my system to find my proper driver. After finding and installing the new driver I had full control over brightness. I've been using my MBP for about a day and a half with no problems for the brightness. I hope this helps everyone.

  • USB microphone not recognized by mbp, retina, late 2013, 10.10.1 Yosemite.

I bought a Behringer Xenyx302 USB preamp to connect a microphone to my mbp.  The device is not recognized by MacOS.  Preferences / Sound / Input only lists the internal microphone.  Based on other posts and documentation, I should see and entry for "USB microphone" or something like that.
The preamp has a headset jack.  I can hear the microphone working through that, so I know the mic works.
Behringer doc says that no drivers or software are required for MacOS.  15" mbp, retina, late 2013, 10.10.1 Yosemite
    Any suggestions?

Yes I have checked Parallels config along with Parallels support.  Also on the mac side it also does not see or recognize USB 2 devices
    any other thing to try?

  • Diagnostics MBP retina late 2013

i want to diagnostics the hardware of my mbp retina late 2013 but while i pressing D during boot up it launch the internet recovery instead so why is it like that? and how to diagnostic for hardware problems?

Hello, did you clean wipe the drive at all? This simply means that the diagnostic tool was not found locally and the machine is booting up internet diagnostics (equivalent to option + D ) at boot. Once the spinning globe finishes, you should be able to access the diagnostic test.
You should have an Internet connection before starting Apple Diagnostics. This will enable Apple Diagnostics to recommend support resources. Additionally, if Apple Diagnostics is not found on the internal startup volume, an Internet-based version starts up instead. You can still run Apple Diagnostics without an Internet connection, but no results will be uploaded to Apple and no connection to Apple Support web pages will occur.

  • MBP Retina Late 2013 backlight bleeding

    Hello,
after two weeks i purchased brand new macbook pro 13 retina late 2013.
Everything seems fine, but today I noticed a problem with the screen.
When the brightness is at 100% and the screen is black in the lower left corner there is a greenish color.
I guess this is the backlight bleeding.
    Attach a picture of problem.
I guess this is a manufacturing defect and should consult with service?

  • New MBP retina late 2013 initial 29GB already used

    Hello,
I just got my MBP retina late 2013, my first try of Mac from using PC for years. Out of the box I just did an upgrade, then checked the disk usage and already has around 28-29GB filled?
From the DiskUtility it is classified as "Others". I suspect this is the entire OSX Mavericks plus the standard apps? Is it normal? is it really this big?
I got a 500GB SSD so should not be an issue, but I still cannot sleep over it without knowing for sure if the 29GB usage is normal for a newly bought MBP.
    Would appreciate your feedbacks.
    Thanks!

Quite normal - everything in "Other" includes the OS, any user documents, etc. -> anything that doesn't neatly fit into the "Photos," Movies," etc. categories.
For info on the Storage tab, see -> The Storage Display.
Hope that you enjoy your new Mac!!

  • GPT partition inhibiting windows 8.1 install on MBP retina late 2013

Hi there, looking for some help!
Trying to install win 8.1 on my MPB retina late 2013 using bootcamp.
Bootcamp makes the partition but then the windows installer does not automatically start (Bootcamp help says it should.. Original full windows disk is in superdrive).
Restarting pressing "option/alt" gives me the choice to start "windows".
    This starts the windwows installer.
Seems fine untill I need to select a disk to install windows onto.
Choosing "Drive 0 Partition 4: BOOTCAMP"  Does not work.
it says "windows cannot be installed on drive 0 partition 4"
    Same after pressing "Format"
    Details show:
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style"
I saw a solution to a problem like this:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/23545484#23545484
But I expect that this would not be nessecary anaymore.
Windows 8.1 is supposed te be supported by Bootcamp nowadays.
    My Bootcamp is:
Boot Camp Assistant 5.1.1, Copyright © 2013 Apple Inc. All rights reserved
Software update says no updates are available for my machine.
    Anyone?

delete partition bootcamp created in windows installer
and let windows installer create new one (it will create 4)
after that, IF installer won't to able to write on partition created, reset pram http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379 start installer again by booting with ALT + Option
it will be able to write to the partition it created
