Wifi drops every 30mins

ideally, you'll want your router to broadcast on a channel that is "5" away from others (if the other channel is 11, you'll want 5 or 6). obviously, in a crowded environment, that may not be possible.
Also since I have 4 computers connected to the gateway and they were fast and good
are they connecting to the 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz band ? there is (for now) less equipment using the 5 GHz band ...
check this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2412843&start=0&tstart=0. you will find a lot of information and tips here.
Is it the new Ipod Touches 3G that are like this only?
i have a (refurbished) 2nd gen Touch so can't really say much about later models.
Are their software or hardware problems that I can't fix and should return? I like the Ipod Touch for everthing else, but gee the wi-fi is worthless this way.
i wouldn't give up so easily. my Touch has not given me any wi-fi problems despite the fact that i can see @ least 12 other networks in my area.

  • FRUSTRATING!! 4 month 27" iMac. WIFI drops every few mins.

I have a 4 month 27" Intel iMac. The WiFi connection drop every few minutes.
I called up phone support and they told me to move the router away from magnetic fields so now I have 'stuck' it to the ceiling of my apartment away from the Cordless Phone, TV etc....
    Power Cycled the Modem
    Updated the Mac Software
Called up the cable company to check for Firmware updates
Updated firmware on the wifi router
I then too the iMac physically to GENIUS - they kept it for a day and ran checks but did not find any issue with the system
Renewed the DHCP Lease as advised by someone on this forum
    All possible approaches
Point is - this does not solve my problem. I have to click disconnect and re-connect WiFi every few minutes. It 'drops' while drafting a mail and then you have to reconnect to SEND the mail OR when streaming a movie 'LOADING' every few minutes and you have to re-connect.
What is the point of a high end computer when it cannot hold on to a wifi which my $500 Dell holds seamlessly and so does my iPhone and Wii.
    Anyone have a concrete solution?

    Hi
I may have a fix for you.  It requires you to change your WiFI security from WPA/WPA2 to the (lower) security but effectively still pretty secure WEP.  You can use the 128bit security.  Some routers seem to have a problem with the passwords of WPA - I don't know the technical stuff but its happened to me not just on a mac network but on a Windows XP network aswell.  I offer this to you because it worked for me, and is still working.
The thing to do is to log onto your router and change its security from WPA to WEP.  To do this open your browser of choice and type in the ip address of your router.  eg. 192.168.1.2  The side of your router should have this address displayed.  If you have changed your router's ip address for some reason you need to use that address, obviously.
Navigate to your security page on your router.  You may have to type in an Administrator password for the router.  (this prevents anyone with a bit of knowledge randomly, or maliciously changing your settings and locking you out).
Select WEP security, and select 128bit if you have the option.  This will give you a passkey of 26" bits" long.
Type in your new security password.  Write it down EXACTLY as you type it.  Remember, for WEP you can only use Hexadecimal - so numbers 0 to 9 and letters a to f in any combination.  JUST make a note of it exactly, as if you don't, getting back on your router via wifi will be impossible.
Next on your iMac, or whatever, delete your wifi network connections.  You could also delete your wifi connection in Network Preferences,  and start again.  To make things absoutley sure you can edit your keychain and delete the keychainentry for your old WPA wifi network name aswell.
Now, in Network Preferences under Network Name type the SSID of your wifi network exactly as it is on the router.  The iMac will find the network and offer you a box to enter your WEP password.  Type it in exactly as you remebered/wrote it down.  You should now be connected to your Network using WEP security.
You shouldn't have any more problems with dropping wifi connections after sleeping your iMac and in most real world situations you will still be spretty secure.
I offer this fix "as is" - if you don't feel competent to make the changes then don't - just ask someone who does know!

  • Wifi drop every hour

Ok so I'm trying to play my ps4 off of the linksys AC1200 MAX wifi range extender (RE6500) and I keep getting a lost connection every hour at the same time. At first I thought it was a hardware problem only because the first day I used it I never dropped and it has amazing connection. Then the next day around 1:03 I dropped then it happened again at 2:03. This irritated me I took it back thinking it was a hardware issue. I got a new one and it's doing it again but now 12:56 then 1:56. Please help me fix this. I've tried other extenders such as netgear but they fail in comparison to the kind of connection I get using the RE6500.

Move the RE6500 in a little better signal location. The router and extender should see each other at around a 70% signal strength for dependable connection.
Please remember to Kudo those that help you.

I've searching this forum for this issue but no solution helped me (deleting network login from keychain, etc)
I hope that I can find useful advice here.

I've bought it 1 week ago and 4 days after it started dropping connection every few minutes (sometimes it works fine for 0.5-2 hours).
It is so disturbing that I cant evenly use web.
Is it hardware issue or software? And how can I fix it?

Take it back to the store, you have like 90 days of free hand holding and they also check the machine for hardware issues.

  • Remote app wifi drops out constantly

    Hello,
Just a quick question - When I use the Remote app on my iPhone the wifi drops out all the time. I'll open up the application, it works fine, I change a song, then after 2 or 3 minutes I'll go back to put on a different song and get the Cannot connect to iTunes screen. Also the wifi icon up the top of my iPhone isn't on. I can fix this by going in to Settings > Wifi and it finds the network, then I can go back in to the remote app but obviously this is annoying to do every time I want to change a song.
I'm not using a router, just created a wireless network for my phone through Aiport on my mac. What turns the wifi connection off after a while if it's not constant in use, is it the computer or iPhone?
What settings can I change so that this connection is constant? And yes the stay connected setting in the remote app is turned on.
Thanks for any help : )

I'm experiencing the same problem. I recently got the latest gen Apple TV. I couldn't believe the instability of the Remote app's connection to the Apple TV.
Prior to the new ATV, I used a Mini and Front Row and the previous version of the Remote app worked flawlessly. Once connected, I could lock my phone and come back to it periodically and it was always connected in would respond near instantly.
Now unfortunately, every time I lock the phone the remote app loses the connection and I have to wait for it to find the ATV, restore the connection, load the library. It's maddening. I mean the AirPlay stuff is great but a stable consistent connection is the foundation to everything.

  • IOS 8.1.2 on iphone 6 Wifi drops and doesnt reconnect

    Hi,
I had the an issue with wifi dropping and not reconnecting automatically on my iphone 6 with ios 8.1.2
The wifi was disconnecting every minutes even when the screen was not locked. I had to go back to wifi settings and reselect the network I want
I tried all the tips available (forget network, reset network setting, reboot phone, disable location, disable air drop/bluetooth, etc)
This was happening mostly in hotels with annoying DNS that redirects you to a web page to login with name/room # so changing wifi router settings was not an option
I finally set up static IP adress as mentionned in another post and now my wifi is stable for 3h (and reconnects works too)... thanks
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6554548?tstart=0
I have resolved this issue on my new iPhone6 as follows. My router is a fairly old Belkin in this case.
    1) on iPhone in settings, WiFi, forget this network
    2) select the network again and select the blue i button
    3) Log in to your ADSL router from another device and note network and DNS settings
    4) on iPhone reconfigure using Static settings rather than DHCP (thats what I did anyway)
    5) Log in to your ADSL router again and restart it or power it down and up again
    6) on iPhone reconnect to the WiFi when it restarts
Now everything seems to be ok with the iPhone connected and staying connected.
However this is more a patch than a fix because when I leave the hotel (or any wifi network), the router will assign my static IP to someone else end when I come back it wont work anymore,
My guess is that IOS 8 has problems reconnecting to a router when a new IP address is leased.
The fact that the signal is weak might also affect the frequency at which the ip is renewed
FYI, I have always been a android user and just switched to apple... Not impressed. Hope this is fixed shortly

    Jay,
I've tried most everything as well (including new router before I realized it wasn't our iphone 5's but IOS 8 updates. After turning off LTE and Data Roaming in the Cellular settings, things work much better. WiFi stays connected. Have since re-enabled LTE and it still works. Tried a dozen other "recommendations"; it may have been a combination of things. Still not blazing speed, but tolerable. Just wish 8.1.3 had the fix (from what I've seen today, it's not fixed). Be glad you're not having the SIRI hands-free problem; she won't connect calls in one car and has problems connecting in the other car. About as many have this problem as the wifi snafu that came with IOS 8.

  • Wifi drops constantly on WPA enterprise wifi on my campus

    Hello,
I own a macbook pro retina mid 2012 on maverick. The wifi drops constantly on campus, it's a WPA enterprise wifi. The wifi seems to work fine at home. My computer has been sent to an apple store twice for this issue already, I got it back but it is still not working and i spent more than 3 hours on the phone with apple trying to solve that issue. They made me run a lot of stuff, got me to send them files so that their engineers could work on them.
Bottom of the story, they tell me that the problem must come from my university wifi, a wifi network used by 50 000 students every single day and everyone is fine with it ...
I have been to the computer help desk on campus and they had no idea what to do.
So please if anyone has any hint, i would greatly appreciate as I lost faith in apple "engineers" and their skills.
    Thanks guys.

    Hi  ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!
I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY 15-k233ca Notebook and issues with the WiFi dropping constantly. Try this fix.
Go to device manager, the Network adapters WiFi driver properties power management
Allow this computer to turn off wifi to save power, uncheck it and restart the Notebook. Hope this helps. Thanks.

  • Constant wifi drop & disconnect

My one month old iMac does not maintain an interent connection for very long. Sometimes it stays connected for <maybe> an hour, but  MORE often it drops either the wifi signal all together or just stops connecting to the internet... when it does seem to have a connection it is VERY slow.
My solution: turn off Wifi wait a few seconds and turn it back on... which is very annoying, but that fixes it.
I have the latest software across the board. I'm running wifi on Time machine. My signal is strong. I have a Powerbook and iPad that connects to it without issues (for a couple of years its been fine until this iMac problem).
    Any suggestions?

There are actually many threads on this subject around here, like this one:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3190651?start=0&tstart=0
There are also many articles on Lion wifi drops. Here are my two cents:
I have a 4 month old iMac running Lion and for the first three months it worked beautifully, but I started having problems with my internet provider and they sent over a technician who changed my modem/router to a new one and configured a new network. He never even touched my iMac, it was all done on one of the PCs in my house, and immediately after that my iMac started dropping the connection all the time. All the other computers in the house (pc and Snow Leopard mac) are working fine.
I have read a thousand threads on this subject and apparently it is a known issue with Lion. There are many suggestions for solutions and I've tried every single one of them, including removing the network in the system preferences panel and then adding it back; or adding DNS servers to the DNS list; or changing the channel on your network (it should be lower than 11). If you search for threads here you'll find many of these supposed solutions, so I'm going to cut to the chase. The only one that worked for me is this:
Open Terminal (type Terminal into Spotlight)
Paste the following line exactly as is into the Terminal window:
      ping `route get default | awk '(/gateway/){print $2}'`
    Press enter
DON'T close the Terminal window. Just press cmd+H to hide it and leave it running in the background.
It is NOT a permanent solution and you have to do it every time you restart your computer, and you have to keep Terminal running on the background. It is a huge pain, but I find that connection drops every 10 minutes is an even bigger pain. Basically what this command does is send signals to the modem every couple of seconds so that the connection doesn't drop from being inactive. It won't affect anything else on your computer and it's not very system-consuming.
This seems to be the only way to have a steady connection for now, until Apple addresses the situation. They just issued an update regarding this issue last week or so, so I suggest you try to keep your system as updated as possible. This update only worked for me till my next startup, though.
However, like I said the problem only started after the technician changed my modem/router and network, so I suspect this is not a Lion problem, but a network problem. The only different thing I can think of that was done with the new network is that I used to have a WEP password and now I have a WPA2 Personal password. I intend to delete this new network and create a new one from scratch, but I haven't had the time yet. I suspect though that there could be some incompatibility with the actual machine (the modem/router), and not the network. I have not found any info on this and have not yet been able to figure out.
I hope this helps, if I find out something more I'll post about it, but in the meantime check out the other threads and google some articles, there are many different answers and opinions on this.

  • Signal dropped every minute

    Hi,
I set up my Airport Extreme. However, my Vista laptop keeps dropping the wifi signal every minute or so and then reconnects to it. Any ideas?
It only seems to be my laptop that does this. My other laptop running XP and my mac does just fine.

Holy - this thang has been driving me crazy. Like I would look at my watch and every sixty seconds there would be a cut out - precisely at the 60 second mark. But this little software download does the trick. Nothing but pure music - the way the artist INTENDED!
    Thank you so much.
That said, the fact that someone has to write a fix for Vista - or for Apple for that matter - is discusting. I am sure they weren't paid for it!
But in any case - thank you - whoever built this little lagger thang. And happy listening to all those who get this to work also!

  • ATTN Macbook owners with problems. wifi drop/moo

I've called apple several times now, about the wifi drop and moo'ing issue. They forwarded me to a higher level tech right now who heard my issues, but since they are by design wasn't able to offer any fixes. He was optimistic about apple providing a fix, and was forwarding my case # to apple engineers.
He told me that the 'feedback' link on apple's site is the most direct way to get issues like these fixed. The feedback method feeds your issues, complaints and perceptions directly to people who can do something about them. He said that it is more important to have many people leave feedback with these issues than it is to have a singular ambassador speak for all.
So, I implore you, Macbook owners with issues. PLEASE leave feedback. Currently there isn't a macbook specific feedback form, he said to use the powerbook form and indicate that you are using a macbook. The form is located here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/powerbook.html
All 3 techs of various levels i've spoken too so far appear to be generally unaware of what we are talking about here in discussions.apple.com. If we're going to spin our wheels with countless threads and replies regarding these issues, the least we can do is take the time to let apple know directly.
    Thanks!
    macbook 1.83ghz/2gb Transcend @ 667mhz/60gb/combo   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I've reported the issue as well. I've owned every Mac laptop since the first Powerbook fifteen or so years ago and this MacBook Black is a fine machine, but as usual there are some issues that early adopters like us seem to have to endure!
Let's hope we can get a solution to get rid of that bovine sound ASAP.....!
Maybe they want us to listen to iTunes at top volume to drown it out -:)
