Wifi drops out every few minutes
I've been having wifi issues here at my University's network.
I have a 2.2 quad core 2011 Macbook pro 15" running 10.7.1 and up to date as of this posting.
Wifi would work for between 1 minute to 15 minutes, and then pages would stop loading at about the 15% mark (in the URL bar.) Airport still sees a wifi connection, and it would just keep trying to load. The MBP works fine anywhere else except my school.
I asked IT and I'm the only one with this problem so far. I thoght it was a weak signal, but it drops from all parts of the univeristy, even in another building. I thought that the network was overloaded, so I went to school at 6 in the morning and it was still bad.
I thought it was Lion, so I booted up my fresh SL partition, and it still had the problem.
I asked fellow students with 15 Pros running Lion and they have not had this happen to them.
I can bring it to the apple store, but I don't think they'll see the problem.
I've tried clearing the PRAM, using terminal to repeatedly ping google and change the DNS, and changing the list location for wifi to the top.
It's so frustrating reserach solutions when wifi keeps dropping. It's been a month so far, and I'm ready to snap ... my macbook in half. lol.
As you gould guess, I now have to turn airport on and off to post this.
Please help.
Update the firmware in your WiFi router. You can probably find this and instructions on how to update on the router manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need help please give the make, model, and version of the WiFi router that you are using.

Hi all
hope someone can help as i am coming to the end of my tether with my BT Faster Broadband connection
it drops out every few hours and has done for almost 2 months. i cant watch a movie or play a game without losing connection at least once, maybe twice if i am really unlucky.
i got a new hh5 a little while ago and was fine for a while. then the problems started - dropping 2 or 3 times a day. contacted bt and they sent a replacement hh5. no change. eventually in the last few days got worse and its now sometimes dropping at least a dozen times a day, rendering my connection little short of useless.
almost convinced it was a hh5 issue as they seemed to take an age to resynch, so bought an asus dsl-n66u and crossed my fingers.
soon enough, connection dropped again and again.
i have tried 3 different cables, between router and socket, removed the openreach faceplate and plugged a new filter in to the test socket. connected for around 4 hours and droped again.
Connection details from the Asus, with the filter in the master socket - the same as with the openreach filter (as you can see i lost connection again not so long ago.

IOS 6.1.1 wifi gets dissconnected every few minutes
I updated my 4s yesterday with the new IOS and now, my wifi is getting dissconnected every few minutes. The most frustrating thing is that I have to enter the password of my home wifi everytime it gets dissconnected.
Yes I'm having the same issue since the latest iOS update. My wifi reception has dropped substantially - 2 or even 1 "bars" in places in the home where it was full reception. It drops out repeatedly, stopping podcast downloads.
I have both a router and a range extender and the problem exists with both of them. It also exists if I try to connect to public wifi - completely unusable...
But also, I use bluetooth headphone a lot, and the reception for them has plummeted to the point where continually drop out even when the phone is in my shirt pocket - i.e. just 30cm from the headphones. Before the update, the reception was halfway through the house!.
I know it wasn't the headphones causing this because I thought so and took them back for exchange under warranty, and the new ones are exactly the same.
So both wireless reception and bluetooth transmission strength have gone down the toilet following this iOS update.
Is Apple doing anything about this? It seems the communities are full of similar complaints... -
BT Homehub 2 dropping connection every few minutes
Hi, my homehubs been working perfectly until today when it started dropping the connection every few minutes (ranging from 3 minutes up to 13). The broadband and phone lights go out then orange and then back to blue after about a minute.
Having browsed the forums etc Ive changed the location of the hub, changed channels, checked cabling and changed the microfilter.
Im now at a bit of a loss. The firmware is Version 8.1.H.J (Type A) and i notice that the firmware updated on todays date.
Im hoping someone has some ideas as im all out now.
Thanks

Solved!
Go to Solution.I have the same problem friday afternoon at 4.30 to 11.30 at night the router reset itself every five minutes ....the prob first started in nov 2010 i have had 3 home engineer visits and finally we might be getting somwhere it looks like its caused by interferance on the line the phones fine its the broadband ,looking at the engineers meter it was running fine then all of a sudden it spikes erros 21,000 of them the router reboots and steadys again .......somthings causing line interferance it could be anything a pir on a security light ,a street lamp with a faulty timer ,there has even been a case where a car tyre garage has had its broadband removed by sombodys faulty tv .......
the engineer fitted a resistor box under the wall socket and ran the wires through it to the socket ...this is disigned to filter out certain frequencies of line pollution but not all ......it seems to be working its only shut down twice tonight and that could be the exchange mucking about as they are continuing to monitor the problem ......HOPING ....... oh he also removed the front of the wall socket and fitted me a dsl one with a separate phone socket hence doing away with the dsl filter ...................... -

Why is the signal dropping out every few seconds?
I have an airport express card in my iMac intel core duo. I have an airport express plugged into my stereo so I can stream iTunes. iTunes recognizes the stereo AX. There is the airport signal icon up on the top bar of the computer screen, which reads all bars solid, then all bars light grey, then all bars solid - this corresponds to dropouts on the stereo. These dropouts do not occur in the computer speakers though, so I know I'm getting the info. Where is this problem originating? The sending card, or the receiving AX? It is maddening. I have tried resetting the stereo AX by pushing the little inset button, but that didn't fix this. Is there a way to reset the card in the computer? What do I do now?
thanksThank you, Glenn - I changed the channel to 11 (I didn't realize there was an option for this, but a little hunting brought up the "Automatic" and 11 channels - so I set it to 11). I already was using interference robustness, and I could tell that helped a little but didn't solve the dropouts totally - and the channel change seems to have solved it. Thanks for the solution!

I keep getting kicked off of my wifi on my macbook pro. It is the wifi in my house. I get kicked off like every few minutes or so. Why is this and how can I stop it?
I think the other devices are fine. I'm not sure. It usually only happens like a couple days out of the week. I do know that the network I'm using when I click on the wifi symbol at the top of my screen doesn't have a padlock on it. It IS MY network that is at my house, but maybe that has something to do with it.

Hi, my wifi button just greyed out a few minutes ago and I can't connect to wifi. Have followed instructions given by Apple support but it's still not working. Does anyone have a solution? Thanks & Happy New Year :-)
First, you don't have a 5+ year old 3GS. The 3GS has only been around for under 4 years. In fact, 5 years ago there were NO iPhones; the original iPhone (2 generations before the 3GS) came out on June 29, 2007 - not quite 5 years ago. The 3GS was released June 19, 2009.
That aside, you can sync multiple phones to one computer - see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495. boogeyman is wrong. It is 100% safe to create an additional user name on her computer, log in with that name, and back up the phone. See this for details on what you want to do: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2109 -
Why does Firefox log me out of websites every few minutes?
I'm having a problem where I'm getting logged out of websites automatically every few minutes. It doesn't matter what the website is (Facebook, email, forums etc.) once I've logged in, after a few minutes of browsing I'll be logged out again. I've tried re-installing Firefox and have cleared my cookies/cache multiple times but it's still happening. I've been using Firefox for years and this is the first time anything like this has happened so I guess that it might be related to the latest update. Does anyone have any ideas?
What are the connection settings?
*Tools > Options > Advanced > Network : Connection > Settings
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Options+window+-+Advanced+panel
If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.
See "Firefox connection settings":

Check the date and time and time zone in the clock on your computer: (double) click the clock icon on the Windows Taskbar.
Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

Tecra M9 PTM91E : WLan Intel 4965AGN disconnect every few minutes
I have a M9 laptop, model PTM91E. The wireless connection keeps disconnecting (then reconnecting again) every few minutes. This happens on every wireless network I try connecting to. Here what I have on my laptop: -
Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN
Driver version 11.5.0.32
Driver date 9/26/2007
XP Pro
Toshiba suggest I upgrade to Windows Vista, something I have nigtmares about.
Does anyone else have the same problem? Any solutions?
ThanksI have read about the similar issue on a Sat A210 and with Atheros WLan card.
The solution was a BIOS and WLan driver update
So check it out.

Remote app wifi drops out constantly
Hello,
Just a quick question - When I use the Remote app on my iPhone the wifi drops out all the time. I'll open up the application, it works fine, I change a song, then after 2 or 3 minutes I'll go back to put on a different song and get the Cannot connect to iTunes screen. Also the wifi icon up the top of my iPhone isn't on. I can fix this by going in to Settings > Wifi and it finds the network, then I can go back in to the remote app but obviously this is annoying to do every time I want to change a song.
I'm not using a router, just created a wireless network for my phone through Aiport on my mac. What turns the wifi connection off after a while if it's not constant in use, is it the computer or iPhone?
What settings can I change so that this connection is constant? And yes the stay connected setting in the remote app is turned on.
Thanks for any help : )I'm experiencing the same problem. I recently got the latest gen Apple TV. I couldn't believe the instability of the Remote app's connection to the Apple TV.
Prior to the new ATV, I used a Mini and Front Row and the previous version of the Remote app worked flawlessly. Once connected, I could lock my phone and come back to it periodically and it was always connected in would respond near instantly.
Now unfortunately, every time I lock the phone the remote app loses the connection and I have to wait for it to find the ATV, restore the connection, load the library. It's maddening. I mean the AirPlay stuff is great but a stable consistent connection is the foundation to everything. -
I have imported a number of movies and tv shows into my iTunes library. This library is located on an external USB 2.0 hard drive which is connected to my MacBook Pro 13" mid 2012. I use an Airport Extreme (5th gen.) as my network hub, everything is connected wirelessly through either the 5GHz or the 2.4GHz wifi signals.
Whenever I watch these videos on my MacBook itself of my AppleTV (3rd gen.) everything works just fine, no lag or stuttering. But when I want to watch these videos on my iPad 2 (6.1.2) or iPhone 4S (6.1.3) using the standard Videos app, I get lag and/or stuttering every few minutes just like you would when an internet video isn't loading fast enough. Speedtests indicate a stable internetconnection (fiberglass) at 30Mbps up and down, and internet videos (i.e. Youtube) stream just fine, even the 1080p ones. That's why I don't think my networkconnection is the problem.
Frankly, I don't have any idea where to look next. I checked all settings in iTunes (homesharing is enabled, any other settings seem to have no relation with this subject) and the iPad/iPhone, restarted the devices completely but not with any improvement.
Why is this happening? I'm used to Apple products having an optimal user experience, but in this case it's just not working like it should...Try putting one of those movies onto your macbooks' drive and stream it and see if you have the same lag.
It's probably not being pulled from that external drive fast enough causing the lag.
I know you can watch it off your macbook fine, but you're pulling it onto the laptop, then pushing it out to the router and data transfer is always slower the more 'stuff' you give it to pass through.
For example, I can pull stuff off a harddrive at a gig a minute....but if i pull it off one and write it directly to another (using the computer as the go between) i get about 75% speed.....something that should take an hour can take almost an hour and a half.
So try streaming directly off your macbook and see if you stutter.
