Wifi gets disconnected when iMac is restored after sleep mode.

Everytime my imac is restored from sleep mode I have to reconfigure my wifi settings, starting to become a pain.

    Hi, I have read a lot of discussions regarding wifi gets disconnected when it goes to sleep mode on iOS 6, mainly on iPhone 5.
    Here is my configuration and it just keeps disconnecting wifi connection once it goes to sleep mode
    iOS 6
    iPhone 5 white
    Purchased on Nov 3
    Work wifi config: WPA Enterprise
    I tried to manual add the wifi but it did not work. I tried all except for upgrade to iOS 6.0.1. I had a call to Apple Support and the guy told me I could not trust everything i read from here (well, how dare he is!!!). But I did all I could think of, and read from here.
    I am with ATT and I do not have a receiption at all at work. I have to turn it to airplane mode, and use the wifi connection. I put my iPhone 4 with iOS 5.0 side-by-side to compare. My iPhone with iOS 5.0 DOES NOT disconnect the wifi connection when it goes to sleep mode; but of course, we all know, iPhone 5 with iOS 6.0 does
    Any helps would be so much appreaticated. I am considering to return the phone to apple store, and cancel my 2 yrs extended contract with ATT. I might think to get another one once they have the issue fixed. It is no point to have an expensive paper-weight at work while I can't use the celluare nor wifi connection.

    I have tested it at home wifi tonight. My phone and my wife's iphone (both iPhone 5 with iOS 6.0) do the same.
    With cellular data on (aka airplane mode OFF) with WIFI ON
    Wifi icon replaced by ATT's LTE icon once the phone was waken up from sleep mode; but within 2 secs, the wifi connection got reconnected again.
    With cellular data OFF (aka airplane mode ON) with WIFI ON
    WIFI icon disappeared from the top bar after both phones were waken up from sleep mode. It took a while to reconnect to the wifi network (more than 10 seconds).
    On a separate note, after i rebooted my phone, i can see it does "searching" the ATT's signal, then it shows "No Service", then next second, it shows ATT with full bars and LTE icon.
    My question is, i have never noticed the "No Service" showing up from my iPhone 4. The "No Service" shows up on my wife's phone too. When I first got her phone and was doing the installation, I had noticed the cell signal dropped from full bars to no service, then within few seconds, it went back up. I have not had time to test on her phone again, but it is something I will be monitoring for. I wonder if anyone has similar experience like this.
    anyhow, any feedback on how to fix the wifi got disconnected while in sleep mode would be very helpful.

  • Imac running slow after sleep mode

    not sure what's going on but i can't use sleep mode on my imac 2010 sl
    whenever it wakes from sleep mode it is so slow, even typing an email i'll get the flywheel coming up and a delay in the words i'm typing. every application is slow, i have to a restart for it to start working normally again.
    my wife has the same problem with her macbook pro of similar vintage and os.
    anyone else have this problem and know a solution?

    I too have been noticing problems in slow behavior after sleep mode.  It has gotten so bad I have been restarting it regularly or shutting down much more regularly.  It behaves almost like normal after a re-start.
    It is almost like the hard drive is failing? Last time this happened I put a new HD in.  I am usually running a large number of different programs, always multi-tasking, which has been a mac fortie. Seems worse with the last few updates.  My I mac is 24" imac 2008 model. replaced drive just before apple care expired.

  • External usb disc used for Time Machine backup disconnects when Mac has been into sleep mode

    I use a 1Tb External usb disc used for Time Machine backup which works fine, but when the Mac goes into sleep mode & powers back on I get a message stating that you should always eject the Drive before removing.
    Any suggestions on how to get around this problem would be welcome

    Look at the root of your hard drive for a folder called Backups.backupdb.
    Or, a sparse bundle disk image for one of mobile computers that might have tried to back up to your Mac.
    If you have those, remove them and try again.

  • Having issues with iMac not working after sleep mode

    When waking up from sleep mode or turning machine on in the mornig computer will not recognize the mouse or track pad.  I have a 3.06 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo.

    sudo nvram boot-args=”-p -r” should get the computer to reset the nvram. After words its a good idea, to go back into Apple Menu, System Preferneces, Startup Disk, and make sure your Hard Drive is selected.
    Is the OS up to date? if not, why not try running software update?
    have you tried repalcing the batteries?
    Have you tested with a wired keyboard or mouse? (dose it have the same issue)
    Have you tried a safeboot?

  • External hard drive disappears when imac wakes up after sleep

    Hi Everyone.
    Got a really silly question but I can't seem to figure out where to fix this
    I have 4 USB 500gig hard drives all run off a 13 port powered hub.
    Now I have one hard drive set aside for my films which I and ripping so they can be view via my apple tv 2nd gen. The other is for MP3's and the other 2 get are redundunt at the moment.
    No the problem is when I rip a DVD, I rip it to the hard drive on the iMac and then trans the files to the external drive.  As I rip them at a high quality (2 to 3 gigs per film) I get the transfer box saying it will take X amount of time.  The only thing is the iMac after some minutes will go to sleep.
    When you wake it up the hard drives have disappeared and the is an error saying the drive have been ejected incorrectly.
    I'm assuming the iMc is putting the drives to sleep when it goes to sleep.
    Is there a way to keep the hard drives running but only put the momitor to sleep.  The problem is also happening when I use USB memory sticks (I have a 4/8/16 & 32gig sticks all with various bits of info that I am sorting out from the move from Windows PC to Mac.
    Can anyone point me in the right direction to get this fix coz I can't seem to find the setting

    When you are doing this, set the drive to never sleep, slider completely to the right and display sleep to something like five minutes. Or just hit Control-Shift-Eject, to sleep the display. Uncheck "put the hard disks to sleep..." That said, the firmware on the externals may be spinning them down. But this shouldn't be happening if they are being written to.
    System Preferences> Energy Saver.

    Usually the 1303 error is in regards to a corrupted or missing backup of your iPod Touch.  Try removing or moving the backups to another location and then try to restore your iPod once again.

  • Dell Venue 11 Pro 7140 WiFi becomes disconnected during idle or waking from sleep

    I have a Dell Venue 11 Pro 7140 in which the wi-fi consistently becomes disconnected when either the tablet is idle for a period of time, or if it has woken from sleep. Period of time varies -- more than 5 minutes, but less than an hour.
    When wi-fi connection is lost, the only way to connect again is to reboot. Not much of a solution. USB 3.0-to-Ethernet adapter is rock-solid, but there isn't much point in having a tablet if you can't be wireless at some point.
    Things I've tried:
    - Optimized the intel driver settings roaming agressivenes: medium-low, Throughput booster: enabled, Transmit Power: highest.
    - toggling airplane mode, disabling/enabling via Network Connections
    - creating a custom wireless profile
    Really, not sure what I can try next. I've used other Windows 8.1 Pro laptops, and none of them have been this spotty.
    If anyone has a solution out there, I'm game to try. Otherwise, I'll be returning this back to Dell as a defective product. There seems to be issues about earlier versions of the Venue 11 Pro, but I haven't been able to find much on the 7140 version.
    Fully updated Windows 8.1 Pro. Using Intel dual-band Wireless AC 7265 adapter with v17.13.11.5 of the driver. BIOS version A03.

    This whole process from order date 14th March 2015 to now has been frustrating, my mistake was to get one of the sales consultants on chat to check the saved cart, had compatible accessories for this tablet. From then on, after multiple quotes in the end he still managed to get the address wrong and missed putting screen protector on the order, multiple emails and phone calls the following week finally got address changed but couldn't get screen protector added to order in the end I ordered it over the internet. I should have cancelled order when I wanted to.
    What should have been a simple process is now a nightmare the Tablet with screen protector needs to be replaced has not worked properly since unboxing and first switch on , spent many hours of installing updates, contacted technical assistance last Thursday they did a remote hookup changed some things worked for a little time.

    PS update 7th April 2015 started factory reinstall last Friday reinstalled all recomended updates more wasted time tested over weekend WiFi still not working after sleep mode. When I check for new updates keeps asking to reinstal theses 2 updates already done, reinstal them over and over still tells me to update them, second file fails to instal have to manually instal O2 Micro file searches wrong place for missing component.

  • IMac locking up in Yosemite after sleep mode engaged

    iMac 27 locking up after sleep mode requiring full power shut down and rebooting in safe mode then shutting down and rebooting normally.. Permissions and this check show no errors, the only error sleep mode failure. Boot up is very slow as well as wake up when possible is slow. Yosemite seems to need a new release in order to correct the boot problems. System operates more like a Windows machine than Apple machine what's going on?

    Calls can be declined by hitting the sleep/wake button twice quickly.
    Decline a call and send it directly to voicemail. Do one of the following:

    It's really frustrating that my Mac 9/10 times won't reconnect after sleep mode.
    Is there something I can download to fix this please.

    This should be filed under "What Worked for Me".  For me this turned out to be a simple fix for a tough problem.  Maybe someone else can benefit from my experience so I'm dropping this into the forum to be searchable.
    The short answer is to try putting your WiFi station on a low channel number. It fixed my reconnect problem permanently. I can only speculate about why this works, but it's easy to try.
    Long version-  Fails to autoconnect after sleep, own station not listed in wifi dropdown list.
    After almost a year of flawless reconnect, my iMac* suddenly began failing to reconnect or even list my SSID after waking from sleep. It showed everything else in the neighborhood, but my own station had been blacklisted somehow.
    I could get a connection eventually, but it took 10 or 20 or more on/off cyles of the wifi radar symbol. It got to be very annoying. All the other computers including macs and PCs and ipads that visit my house had no problem. This included a MacBook with the same operating system (but a different wifi card).
    I didn't write anything down at first so I'm not sure if it was triggered by an update. It might have started after some of my neighbors bought new routers.
    I tried all the suggestions I could find on all the forums, including clearing the keys from key manager, clearing the preferred stations, etc. No luck. Sometimes it would reconnect immediately but the next time it could be very stubborn.
    I knew I was getting closer to the snag when I read about 802.11d and country codes. I looked in the system log (kernel.log) with the console and found these lines repeated:

    I definitely do not live in 'TW '.
    The number of times this message appeared exactly matched the number of retries that were necessary. The last entry would have my own country code (Finland) and a much longer list of supported channels:

    There are three (illegal ?) routers in my neighborhood advertising TW as the country. (Taiwan maybe?) I discovered how to see the country codes from my neighbors' routers:
    (Apple) -> About This Mac -> More info… -> System Report … -> Wi-Fi
    Press the Wi-Fi label in the list on the left, not the one on the right-hand side that shows if you hit "Network".
    I have an Airport Extreme dual band, and had the 2.4 Ghz on channel 13 and the 5 Ghz on channel 48, to stay clear of other channels in my neighborhood. I began to suspect that these channels may be overlooked or at least given last choice because they were not in the Supported Channels list for TW.
    The behavior of protocol 802.11d is to scan for a country code from one of the nearby routers. The question is, what is the search order? You would think it would start with your own router, but maybe they were not on the list because the channels I picked are not valid in all areas. Or maybe it just starts on channel 1 and mine came in last at 13.
    So I dropped the 2.4 Ghz channel to channel 2. Immediately the connection became 100% reliable.  My explanation could be bogus, but it has worked reliably all week, not a single failure, which means about 30 restarts from sleep, plus a lot of manually run on/off sleep/wake cycles. Before this fix, I could knock myself offline with just one on/off cycle.
    Unanswered questions: This is a desktop machine, so why is it so worried that I may have moved to another country since the last session an hour ago? Why can't I set the country code manually?
    p.s. Just as one last check I just now switched back to channel 13. It took 10 tries to connect. Back to channel 2, connected immediately.

    Brand new home built system (all new components unless noted otherwise) running Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium on the following hardware:
    MSI X58 Pro-E motherboard,
    Intel Core i7-920 (2.66) CPU,
    Enermax PRO82+ 525W powersupply,
    Sapphire ATI HD5670 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E video,
    8GB Corsair 1333MHz RAM,
    WD Velociraptor 150GB 10,000 RPM boot drive,
    WD 500GB Caviar Black for file storage,
    Plextor DVD-RW,
    CoolerMaster case.
    Older Viewsonic VP2030B monitor,
    Older Microsoft Desktop 6000 V2 keyboard/mouse.
    With standard Windows 7 power saving features enabled, the following
    intermittent problems occur:
    After the system has gone into sleep mode, the video card provides no signal to the monitor. Moving the mouse or touching keys on the keyboard obviously bring the system back out of sleep mode, but no video signal is received. Unplugging the DVI-D
    cable from the card results in the Windows sound indicating a change. Plugging it back in, results in a Windows sound indicating the change. This happens when you unplug one end of the cable, it doesn't matter if it is at the monitor end or the video card
    end - as long as the other end is of course still plugged in. The only resolution to this "no video" state is to reboot the computer with the power or reset button.
    On some occasions when turning the PC on, there is no video signal. The system boots properly (although the BIOS screen takes about 15 seconds to appear - something MSI says is OK), and can be shut down with the correct keyboard sequence. The monitor
    runs through VGA, DVI-A and DVI-D, but no signal is ever received so it goes into standby mode. 
    When the computer boots properly, usually while it is still loading Outlook (which is set to start automatically), the screen goes completely blank for 5 or more seconds, then comes back on and the monitor menu indicates that it is running at the correct
    resolution, and then the video works correctly from there on in - unless it goes to sleep.
    On some occasions, when recovering from a "no video after sleep mode" incident, everything on the screen has been moved towards the upper left side of the screen. The Outlook window which is normally quite large (80%) and centred on the screen has been reduced
    in size to about 50% and shoved into the top left corner. Also, the 4 gadgets that normally run vertically along the right side of the screen have been moved up and towards the middle of the screen, one or two of them often overlap others.
    Things I have done/tried:
    All Windows 7 updates,
    All motherboard BIOS updates,
    All video card drivers and software updates from ATI,
    Replaced the DVI-D cable,
    Uninstalled the video card and drivers, and moved the card to a different PCI-E slot,
    Replaced the video card with another Sapphire ATI HD5450 card (temporarily).
    Sapphire thinks it's a hardware problem with the original card, but since temporarily replacing it with another card, the problems continue, so I doubt that is the issue. (Plus I have to pay $25 to ship the apparently defective - under warranty card - back
    to them.)
    These problems have happened intermittently since the system was built in January 2010 and they seem to be quite random, sometimes not happening for weeks, other times happening every few days. Sometimes the system is in sleep mode for 1/2 hour and it happens,
    other times it is in sleep mode for hours and it happens (or doesn't).
    Any help would be appreciated.

    OK, I finally got around to trying this. I still have to check if that actually fixed it, but I managed to get into the "Factory" OSD screen.
    I had my system running, disconnected my new monitor and plugged in the flaky old Viewsonic. I then:
    1. Depressed and held down the #2 button, then depressed and held down the Power button,
    2. Almost immediately the amber power light turned-on, the backlight turned on and the output image from the PC showed up.
    3. The On Screen Display (OSD) for all the monitor setting came up (at the bottom of the screen instead of the middle where it normally is), and underneath the Main Menu window in the OSD, along the bottom of the overall OSD window, the word "Factory" appears
    in the middle between the control button keys (#1 for exit, and #2 for enter). (It's not normally there.)
    4. Using the down arrow key on the face of the monitor, I highlighted the "Factory" menu item, pressed the #2 key and voula! there was a whole new simple white text on bright blue background window, which among all sorts of settings included "Factory Reset"
    (which is the default selection).
    5. I pressed #2 again to accept and it was done.
    All that is left is to do is some user testing to see if the monitor behaves as new.
    Additional informtion: in the top of the "Factory" menu it reads: "LOVP AU Ver.0.36"
    I took photos of everything and will post them on my Flickr account. To find them go to wwww.flickr.com, click on the search button, then on the next screen click on the People tab, enter my name and click search.

  • Yosemite upgrade: function keys no longer work, no keyboard lights and have to sign in twice after sleep mode.  Anybody else having these problems?

    Since I did the Yosemite 'upgrade' last week I have been having problems with my MacBook Pro that never happened before.  The most frustrating problems involve my keyboard which doesn't light up (checked my settings and they are correct) and the top row of function keys don't do anything so I can't adjust the volume, brightness, etc.  Then if my screen goes into sleep mode, when I wake it back up I have to sign back in twice - I never had to sign in at all after sleep mode before.
    I'm finding that in order to get it working properly I am having to completely shut down and start up again but when the keyboard problems are happening I can't get anything on the apple dropdown to work either (i.e. shut down, restart, etc) so I can only shut down by pressing and holding the on/off button.
    I've never had problems with my Macbook before and feel like Apple have completely ruined it in one update!  I've had a look through other posts on here but can't find anybody else having these problems so I would be really grateful if anyone could help me and offer me some advice on how to sort it out.
