  • Wifi greyed out after update

I updated my iphone last night to 7.0.2 and now my wifi is greyed out and the blue tooth just spins. I have tried all the suggestions and it still doesn't work. It can't be a phone problem when it was working perfectly before the update. My phone is not under warranty any more and I shouldn't have to replace it when it worked before the update.

    Hello Staki_85,
Thank you for the details of the issues you are experiencing after upgrading to iOS 7.0.2.
I found an article with steps to take when you cannot enable Wi-Fi on your iPhone:
    Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
Verify that airplane mode is off by tapping Settings > Airplane Mode.
Reset the network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset >Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings
Ensure that your device is using the latest software. To do so, connect your device to your computer and check for updates in iTunes.
If your issue is still unresolved, perform a software restore in iTunes.
    Additional Information
If you are still unable to turn Wi-Fi on, please contact Apple for support and service options.
If you are able to turn Wi-Fi on but are experiencing other issues with Wi-Fi, please see this article.

  • Wifi Greyed Out After OS 4.0.2 Upgrade

Well two days ago I updated my IPhone 3G to OS 4.0.2 and now I wish I hadn't....
OS 4.0 was bad enough but after upgrading to 4.0.2 I have now completely lost the ability to connect to Wifi networks.
Basically the wifi option in settings is totally greyed out and it states "No Wifi".
I've tried hard reboot, double hard reboot, reseting network settings.
Wifi worked fine with OS 4.0 but has now gone grey under 4.0.2.
I've had a good look through the forums and can't find anything in relation to a fix.The OS 4.0 update has killed so many peoples wifi is there a fix available yet for this?
If not looks like tonight I will be trying to roll back to OS 3 if I can and fingers crossed this fixes it.
For those who are unaware to make the 3G phone run faster under OS 4.0 make sure you have no Safarai pages open when not using the internet and have turned off the spotlight search under things where its not needed.
    Thanks
    Steve

I also have the same issue.
It happens when the phone was upgraded to 4.0.1
I sent my 3G to provider and they said that it is a hardware problem. Anyway since my iphone it is not under warranty they do not replace the phone.
Trying to fix the problem I restore the phone twice today. In both cases the wifi works perfectly only for a few moments and then it is lost permanently.
As a result I think that it is not a hardware problem but probably the update 4.0.1 and 4.0.2 cause the issue. With those updates apple tries to fix the antenna problem in iphone 4 as I can remember

  • IPhone 4S wifi greyed out on iOS 7 - Apple's in-store response

    I was in the Apple Store on London two days ago to complain about my new IPhone 5s having wifi outages and a battery life of about 5 hours (of standby) when a woman came in and asked why her iPhone 4S has a greyed out wifi icon since the upgrade to iOS7. She was told her hardware had failed and that she should buy a new phone, or spend hundreds of pounds having it repaired by Apple. If only I was aware then as I am now that Apple are destroying iPhone 4 phones with their new software;
    http://www.nextiphonenews.com/2013/11/why-is-apple-inc-aapls-ios-7-update-destro ying-old-iphones/
I presume this is Apple's company policy to sell more units. Sadly I didn't intervene but I wish I knew now that it's a common problem and that Apple are deleting posts on here about it to cover up. This elderly woman's phone was 18months old, so even out of warranty it's with the scope of consumer law for a free replacement.
I hope posting this helps others out there who might be being told similar things.
...my 5s? Refund for me. It doesn't work at all. Worse than the iPhone 4 it replaces in every way.

Is there a technical support question in that conspiracy theory somewhere?

  • Restriced apps greyed out after iOS 7 upgrade?

I have a cart of iPad2's that I have enabled restrictions on.  I had Safari, Camera, iTunes, and Delete Apps disabled in the restrictions.  A few weeks ago I upgraded the iPads to iOS 7and now when I go to turn any of those settings back on in restrictions I can not.  Any restriction I had previously configured before upgrading to iOS 7 is now greyed out and I can not turn it on or off.  This is a nightmare becasue these iPads have TONS of apps on them and are customized for individual students so restoring each one to factory settings would be horrific.
Is there anything I can do to fix this issue?

I haven't noticed that issue but I found out today that ever since I updated our student supervised devices, their ability to add an email account under the "Mail" app is now restricted.  I have been going crazy trying to see if I accidentally changed a restriction in the profiles but found out that it is only happening to iPads that have had the update done.  :-(

  • My wi-fi slide is grayed out after IOS 7.1 update

I have the iphone 4s and my wi-fi slide is grayed out after my update of IOS 7.1. I tried network reset and factory reset and it still didn't work. Please help.

    There was no "force".
There is nothing about iOS7 that breaks Wi-Fi on the iPhone 4 or any other iPhone.  Don't believe me?  Lift your fingers and search these forums, you'll see issues going back to at least iOS5 with multiple versions of iPhones where after an iOS update the Wi-Fi is grayed out.  It is not a specific version of iOS or specific models of iPhone.
The issue is simply that on some iPhones, the Wi-Fi hardware is "on the fence" so to speak, and upgrading iOS (regardless of version) is extremely difficult on the hardware.  Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi has failed.
Nothing lasts forever.  Accept it and move on.

  • IPad WiFi Greyed Out After Update To IOS 8.1!!!

So I finally bit the bullet and upgraded my iPad from 7.1 to 8.1, but now I find that my wifi won't work!   So I've tried all the common things to try to get my wifi working again (resetting network settings; rebooting,  turning wifi networking off in privacy settings), but still no joy. The only thing I haven't tried yet is a full reset to factory What's going on Apple?  How can an OS update kill my wifi/hardware as others are saying???

    Hi shaun297,
When you did the full factory reset, did you test the Wi-Fi before restoring from backup?  Please try that.
And it does look like you did most of the steps in this article.

  • Anybody had luck with there wifi greyed out after update to IOS 7

I've been trying all sorts to get my wifi working on my iphone 4s, been searching the internet to solutions, turning airplane mode on and reseting network settings - didn't work, reseting all settings - didn't work. Some have said that if you erase all content and data, basically a factory reset turning it back into what it was when you got it out the box works, but it doesn't, for starters it still doesn't go back to IOS 6 (what it would of been out the box), its still IOS 7, when you go into setting/general/about section and look at the wifi there is no wifi address. Has anybody had any luck with solving it, tried going through apple but they say because its out of warrenty i've got to pay for a repair, seen as its happened ever since putting IOS 7 on my phone, i see that as apple broke my phone, so they should fix it for free.

This is almost always a hardware problem that requires repair or replacement of the phone. Downgrading to iOS 6 wouldn't help, even if you could.  There's a small chance that it can be fixed by following the suggestions  in this support article:
iOS: Wi-Fi settings grayed out or dim
FYI, do not try the "freezer" or "hairdryer" methods you may see posted.  At best they are temporary fixes and are very likely to cause additional damage to the phone...

  • Wifi dropping out after 10.10.2 update

Prior to the Yosemite 10.10.2 update my Wifi was working perfectly fine - Now I am lucky to get 2-3 mins of internet on my iMac. I have 3 other Apple devices in my home (iPhones and iPads) with no Wifi issues so there is absolutely no fault with my modem. I have spoken with Apple Support 4 times in the last 24 hours trying to troubleshoot this with no success. They don't seem to be aware this is a problem many people are experiencing. Does anyone have any tips on how I can fix this until Apple come up with an update that will actually work?? I've only had my iMac for 2 months and it is very close to being thrown out the window as it is completely useless to me without internet. Thanks in advance

  • Wi-Fi greyed out after installing iOS 7

So I installed iOS 7 and after few hours my Wi-Fi turned grey , I got this iPhone 1 month ago , the thing is , the bluetooth is still working so the Wi-Fi chip must be working right ?
    Hope I can get help.
Note : I heard there is a blow dryer solution to this , do you think it's safe and if yes , how should I do it ?

The exact same thing happened to my 4s when I upgraded to iOS 6.0, almost right after I updated my WiFi greyed out. I took it to an Apple store and they swore up and down it was a hardware issue and that since my phone was 5 days out of warranty I couldn't get a replacement. I took it home and the next update or two fixed it so it was NOT a hardware issue, it was the iOS. If it suddenly crapped out on you after updating I would bet it's the same thing.
I don't understand why Apple can't field test these a little before mass release, it makes them look sloppy.

  • Is it worth paying to have iphone 4s fixed after wifi greyed out

Hi all my iphone 4s isnt connecting to wifi greyed out  since updating ios7 tryed all troubleshooting tips etc its 15 mths old so not covered but after contacting apple i can send it for repair for €211 this seems harsh seens its their fault issue only started due to the update have read why , read loads discussions and so many with same problem So have repair set up is it even worth it  or as anyone done this what was outcome ??

Some folks think the problem is due to poor solder connections of the WiFi chip on the card. Heating may expand the joints to cause temporary connectivity. The chip itself could be of low tolerance, and the iOS update causes it to fail the threshold. If you have tried the software resets, then the cure is to reflow the solder of the chip to the WiFi card, or to replace the WiFi card. Apple will not "own" this problem, even though it seems to be widespread. Apple offers to renew your contract for a new iPhone at $199. Certain repair shops will tackle this problem, although many local shops will not. In the US try iFix Miami Beach. See them on eBay <http://www.ebay.com/itm/iPhone-4S-Grayed-Out-Wifi-Wireless-Fix-Repair-Service-Tr usted-Specialists-/161160765436?ssPageName=ADME:L:OU:US:1120> for a $69 fix. They fixed my iPhone 4S and returned within a week (even over the Memorial Day holiday weekend). In Europe, I have read about, but have not tried PodMod <http://www.podmod.org> Hope this helps.

  • Ipod sync is greyed out after latest update and libary was wiped

now before i updated the latest update all was fine..
ive since put my libary back as is stored on external hard drive and reset ipod and added libary back to ipod
but still the same as dicribed above.
now i connected my wifes iphone 4s to itunes went to file/devices hey presto itunes reconised it as eg wifes iphone
    but dosnt do for ipod..
    any ideas cheers.

Normally a greyed out Wifi is a hardware failure, but with some of the problems I've seen with the upgrade to iOS 4 on 3G phones, I'm not convinced the problem/problems aren't related to software. I have two suggestions, neither of which are guaranteed to work: 1. Restore your phone as a "new" device in itunes & not from backup. But first delete any and all .ipsw files on your computer. This will force itunes to re-download the current OS. The .ipsw file can be found here:
    OS X: ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates
    XP: C:\Documents and Settingsusername\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
    7 & Vista: C:\Usersusername\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
You may have to turn on "show all hidden files" to find them.
Once done, reboot your computer, launch itunes, connect your phone & restore as "new". When finished, DO NOT SYNC, rather eject your phone & see if all is working properly. If it is, sync your content back to your phone. If not, proceed AT YOUR OWN RISK!
    2. Try and downgrade to 3.1.3 from here:
    http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
Note: Before you try this, bear in mind this is NOT endorsed by Apple & that you run the risk of making your phone inoperable.
