Wifi Hardware Missing

Hello I have 2012 macbook pro and I update to Yosemite awhile ago. Now suddenly my WiFi would turn of and I would have to reset my computer to maybe get it to work. Now its at the point to where the hardware is just missing and a hardware test won't work since it can't connect to a network. People said to delete the WiFi service and then create a new one, but I can't create a new one since its not listed. I tried duplicating it but still had no luck. I also tried removing the 5 files in the "system configuration" folder but the file "com.apple.identication.plist" wasn't there.....after rebooting and putting back the 4 files I did have. In the WiFi preferences I only have  "Ethernet", "FireWire", and thunderbolt bridge".  I cannot add "wifi " because it no longer exist.
I have no idea what to do now

  Try resetting SMC.

wifi and bluetooth hardware missing in my ipod touch could any one help me to fix it?

If the following is your problem try the troubleshooting described within:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
Frequently it is due to  hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
If that is not your problem then we need more information about hur problem. How do you know the"hardware" is missing?

  • I replaced optical drive, now MacBookPro is very hot and wifi hardware not installed

My late 2008 MacBookPro 5,1 2.53 GHz laptop's optical drive would not record last week. A lens cleaning didn't help, so I replaced the optical drive Tuesday evening with iFixit instructions. Other than stripping one of the screws holding the drive in place, all seemed pretty straightforward. I had to disconnect the camera cable to get the drive out but replaced it. After putting everything back together, the new drive seemed to burn discs well and everything (including the camera) worked perfectly.
Last night I came home to the laptop, which, as usual, was sleeping and connected to the AC adapter. Not as usual, it was really hot. I restarted it and when it rebooted the wifi icon had an x in it and said wifi:hardware not installed.
I reset the PRAM and the SMC. No luck.
I have an appointment to take it to a genius bar tomorrow afternoon, but what could I have done without realizing it?
Thanks for any suggestions (I have been working on Mac desktops and laptops for a number of years...this is the first time anything like this has happened to me...)

That is true.  I cannot think of any way to test the Optical Drive without swapping it into a known correctly operating MBP.
A thought which probably may not be an issue.  When I installed an Optical Drive in my old (2006) MBP, I remember seeing in the instruction manual an item called a grounding pad (which looked like a tiny steel brillo pad with out soap) which was missing in mine.  The MBP worked and I essentially ignored it.  Perhaps that may not be case with your situation.
My thoughts are that the Optical Drive is malfunctioning and the cause of your problem.  Perhaps you should consider getting a new replacement from OWC.  But that entails a $100 risk with no guarantees of success.
    Ciao.

  • Hardware missing -AGP Graphics card. How can I get my FCE 4 working on the new computer? Cheers

Hi I have just upgraded my computer to Mac OSX 10.6.7 now I cant open my FCE 4. Message reads, Hardware missing -AGP Graphics card. How can I get my FCE 4 working on the new computer? Cheers

Thanks, just so I know we are talking about the same items please let me know - When you say "run Prokit" do you mean downloaded? Which I did. I dont have Prokit 4.0.1 if you are referring to that, do I need this first? Please explain what application name I am looking for if other than Prokit which is sitting in my "download folder" do I need to manually put it into the apps folder? Sorry if the questions are layman but this area is not a very strong point for me. Thanks for your help so far.

What is the cost of having the WiFi hardware fixed/replaced on Iphone4s??
I have tried EVERYTHING that I have read on internet to restore/reset the software.
Now I will resort to hardware replacement.

  • MacBook 2008 wifi suddenly stopped working and says no wifi hardware. Took it to an apple shop, they said it could be the airport card but wouldn't do anymore then that.  Any help on how to fix this? How do I know if it is the airport card or not?

MacBook 2008 wifi suddenly stopped working and says no wifi hardware. Took it to an apple shop, they said it could be the airport card but wouldn't do anymore then that.
Any help on how to fix this? How do I know if it is the airport card or not?
is there anything else I can try first?
    thanks

If the technician at the shop is competent, he has given you a diagnosis that should have identified the problem.  You could run the Apple Hardware Test to verify the findings:
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201257
Note the Apple Hardware Test is not definitive.
Go to the iFixit.com and Powerbookmedic.com web sites.  They have parts and installation instructions.  To install an Airport card is fairly easy.

  • Best wifi hardware for airport express

    Hi
m looking for ideas for buying the best wifi hardware (accespoint) good for running the airport express.
I have an asus wifi-onboard card right now, but the card looses connection after aprox one hour - then I have to reassosiate with the airport express.
    thanks

With regards to wireless interface adapters for PCs - any make/model should work just fine. If you want to try an alternative, stick with a product from one of the big names in the business of making these adapters like Linksys, Netgear, D-Link, or Intel.
That being said - there are common causes for "dropped connections" other than a "bad card". Interference from neighboring wireless networks and 2.4 GHz portable phones, for example, will also cause problems exactly like you describe. Before replacing the card, you might experiment with changing the wireless channel of the Airport Express (try 1 or 11) - a setting found under the Airport tab of the Airport Admin Utility.

  • Hi, I am using macbook pro 2009 model. In that, there is wifi hardware is not installed. I am not able to use wireless networks. Anybody can help me out.

    Hello,
I am using Macbook pro 2009 model. In that, when I tried to connect wireless network and wifi. I am not able to do. I have done R & D regarding this issue. Some them advice to do some below steps.
    Restart your Mac.
upon start-up, hold down the Opt key until you see your drives.
click on the recovery drive (note: this will not affect or delete any files you currently have).
    login if needed.
in the top right hand corner you will see the Wi-Fi icon (hopefully). Click the icon and then click "turn wifi Off" and then again click "turn wifi ON"
restart your Mac again and start it up normally.
    recover from your near-heart attack.
I've followed your 1 to 4 steps & then after clicking on the wifi icon, I found Wi-Fi: No hardware installed just beneath the icon. That means no Wifi hardware is installed in this machine. Do you have any suggestion about installing it? I mean how can I get that hardware? Is it available on internet? Thanks a lot again.

Apparently you have tried everything except - take the monitor in question to the Apple Store along with your computer.  If it works there, the mystery continues.

  • MacBook Pro (Early 2011) No Wifi Hardware Installed

    Please help me! I'm confused.
My 13" MacBook Pro (Early 2011) Keeps saying that No WIFI Hardware is installed.
My Mac has been running great until earlier this week. I turned it off one night before bed and then the next morning as I switched it on, it said there was no WIFI hardware installed. I launched recover mode which is when I figured my WIFI works in recovery mode just not in the Mac itself. I reinstalled a fresh copy of OS X Yosemite which worked for a day, but sure thing the next day I loaded the Mac and then there was the same issue. So I reinstalled OS X Yosemite... AGAIN!! this time I hit an error, Yosemite had deleting my recovery drive and unmounted my Macintosh HD but thats anther story to fix another time. Once I finally repaired my disk to install Yosemite my WIFI was working again... until I restarted my Mac and it went off and the error reappeared. Luckily Apple released OS X 10.10.2 so I plugged in the ethernet and installed it which has fixed my WIFI... for now, I'm to scared to restart my Mac. Does Anyone know what is going on? Thank you
Like I said when it gives the error (No WIFI Hardware installed) the wifi connects in recovery just not on my Mac OS. I'm currently using my Mac to submit this question and all seems fine so far.
    Thanks again.

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
    5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Wifi hardware not detected

After upgraded to Lion OS yesterday and after some software updates, I always have to restart once when I start up my iMac to allow the wifi hardware to be detected automatically. On a fresh boot-up, the iMac will take a long time to boot up and will go to a login page where I have to key in my password. After logging in, the wifi hardware cannot be detected and I have to restart once to allow the wifi hardware to be re-detected successfully.
Also, Lion OS seems to be a bit laggy as compared to Snow Leopard. There are times where my iMac seems to be less responsive whenever I executed an action or a link on a website.
Anyone encountering this problem as well? Any suggestions?

I have 2 similar threads posted myself. It only happens on a fresh boot after you system has been off for a few hours. When you get to that login page, click restart at the bottom and after it restarts the menu bar will work normally and wifi is back. I have been on the phone with Apple Care about this 3 times and they take it as a non issue. My computer is set for automatic login and not to ask for password on wakeup, but after my machine has been shutdown for more than 2 hours, it always takes a long time to boot and asks me for a password. If I give it the password, the Lion system is slower than poo and wifi and many other things do not function properly.
Next time you get to that login screen, click the restart at the bottom and on next boot everything will work normally.
So far that is the only solution I can find and Apple Care tries to explain the bug to me as a feature of some kind and not a problem with my Mac or Lion. I have the iMac 2011 i5 model... and with Snow Leopard everything was great.
And BTW, even if you do a fresh install of Lion, this bug still remains! I fresh installed twice instead of upgrade and this is the most annoying bug of them all. Have to restart the iMac just to boot, ridiculous.
PS: resetting the SMC did not help the booting problems in my machine. Only fixed the fan problems after installing Lion. Even if you leave the machine unplugged all night, still will does this on reboot. So far from my other thread, I have noticed this issue has been in late model iMacs and Macbook Pros... but hasn't affected the rest of the Mac product lines.

My Mac air keeps on loosing wifi and when I want to switch it on it says "wifi hardware not installed"  After about 5 minutes the wifi is back on, but only for about 10 minutes before loosing signal again.  This is really frustrating.

I am also having the same problem.. Its too much annoying and its unfortunate nobody at apple support has anyclue of what is happening?
... This is happening almost most of the time keeping my phone down most of the times.

  • Resolved: MacBook Pro (Late 2011) No WiFi / No WiFi Hardware

I'm posting this with hopes that it might help out a fellow Mac user who is going through something similar.
I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro.  About 6 months ago, my WiFi would only work sporadically.  I had to move the screen forward and back and restart the Mac until the WiFi icon would show up.  Otherwise, I would see a no WiFi Hardware message.
I tried everything I could think of and that was suggested here on the forums including fiddling with Mac OS X WiFi settings and other software tweaks, thinking it was a software issue. I booted into Windows via BootCamp and WiFi still was flaky or the Airport card wouldn't even show up in Windows.   This told me it wasn't a software issue.
Last night I decided to open up the laptop (I'm out of warranty and no AppleCare) and make sure the AirPort / Bluetooth ribbon cable was seated properly.
I followed the instructions from iFix (Link and QR Code are at the bottom) on how to replace the AirPort / Bluetooth Ribbon Cable. I didn't actually replace it, I just gently removed the cable, blew on both ends of the cable and both cable connectors on the motherboard and re-attached the AirPort / Bluetooth Ribbon Cable.  Put the screws back in, crossed my fingers and it works!
Previously, any slight bump or moving the screen would cause the WiFi to crap out.  Well so far, I've moved the screen back and forth, moved the laptop all around and WiFi is working like a champ.
I hope my experiences and findings might help someone else out.  #payItForward

    Thanks for the response,
    1. I live in Atlanta, close enough to an Apple store. But I just know that going there will probably mean I'll have to get the logic board replaced.
    2. The only thing I noticed before the first USB port started acting funny was that my battery status changed to "Service Battery". I plan on replacing it this week too.
    3. Nope only difference is that my battery drains kind of fast. After about 3-4 hours of my normal usuage with it (Internet, music, videos, and sometimes using Logic) it will be time to hook up the charger.
Would replacing the battery do anything? I'm not thinking it would but figure it'd be worth a shot since I've got to replace it anyway.
    And to goofyziggy,
I too noticed that most people who had this problem had some version of OSX 10.8.x

  • TS1398 WiFi Icon Missing on iPad

WiFi icon missing on status bar.  WiFi OK.  iPad 3rd.

Same here. 3rd gen iPad  latest ios. The wifi is connected but instead of having the wifi icon it shows the LTE. I can turn data off and still have Internet connection on the wifi but the icon is missing. I did do a reboot and it fixed it for a while but has done it again.
I'm not sure when this started. I just happen to notice it a few days ago. Could it have anything to do with new year? Maybe somehow linked to the "do not disturb" bug, which I'm experencing as well but understand that it should correct itself on the 7th.

  • T510 wifi adapter missing

I have a T510 (4349) that I added a Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 ( P/N 60Y3230) to. It is not being recognized by the operating system windows vista. When looking at the device manager the adapter is not listed and there are no adapters with ? marks. I have installed all of the driver for the adapter but no luck. I have also tried a second adapter with the same results. I have installed the latest bios and have checked the bios setting to enable power to the wifi and wlan connectors.
It seams that I am missing something very basic but at this point I do not what it would be.
If any one has any suggestions I would appriciate your thoughts.

Good evening and welcome to the community.
Do the steps starting on manual page 80 of your Hardware Maintenance Manual:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-74250 look like what you're doing to install the WLAN card? Does it seem seated properly?
