Wifi home network no longer showing on ipad in one room of house

All of a sudden, ipad first gen won't recognize wifi home network or any network in one room of house while other devices work fine in same room.  I've tried to update firmware for router, reset the ipad to factory defaults and "forget network" but none have solved problem. How can I fix this? Thanks!

Do a Google search using apple airport extreme setup and you'll get links to a User Guide and setup instructions.

My iPad suddenly stopped working with my home network.  It shows the network to choose from but will not connect. When I look at details in that network it does not show IP address or any other info for the network.  Setting is on DHCP and http proxy is set on auto. Network is active and can connect on wife's iPad and other home computers.  Do I have another setting wrong?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Home sharing no longer shows up on my macbook pro iTunes.

Home sharing no longer shows up on my macbook pro iTunes. Our main computer is a Dell desktop that is authorized for home sharing. My macbook has also turned on home sharing, but the home computer does not show up. How exactly does home sharing work? Must you be in the same area to be able to use this feature or connected to the same network?

you will need both computer have itunes turned on and you will need a wifi for them to work.

You don't download anything at all. The feature is built into the iPhone 4 already. Your carrier has to support the feature and there might be an extra charge to use it.

  • Ipad 2 won't remember my WiFi home network password

Just a couple days ago, my internet was slow for my laptop and ipad. For my ipad, I went to my WiFi Settings and forget my network and reconnect again to see if the internet would run smoothly but it didn't. After a couple of hours, the internet ran smoothly. But now when I connect to my home network it asks me to type in my password. I already turned on "Ask to Join Networks." I went into settings and reset my network settings and it still doesn't work. I also reset my ipad from pressing the on/off button and the home button at the same time. I was thinking of backup and restore but all my media, music will be lost but would it be saved anywhere else on my computer or any part of iTunes? Any other solution would be nice.

I tried this after finding on another forum:  go to settings/wifi and "choose other" instead of selecting your network from the list that shows up. Then just enter the name, security type and password.  I used this on 2 iPads and 2 iPhones and it automatically logged in for all of them, even after restarting the devices.

  • Just got a new IPOD Touch and it wont connect to our Wifi home network with a Belken N Router. Our router uses WEP 64 bit security, but had a "blank" password field, which the IPOD did not like. Changing to a 6 char numeric PW didnt help either.

OS is whatever OS ships with current IPOD Touch
I cannot understand why the APPLE engineers have designed this product so that it has SO MANY WIFI problems.  This is supposed to be an easy-to-use product.  We've had no problems connecting our new laptop, our ROKU box, etc, but it seems impossible to get the IPOD touch to work.  NOTHING LIKE SPENDING XMAS MORNING DOING APPLE TECH SUPPORT TROUBLESHOOTING TO LEAVE YOU IN THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT!!!  Argh!
In fact, the only way we have been able to get this expensive brand new IPOD to work on our home network is to DISABLE SECURITY in the router settings.  THIS IS ANYTHING BUT A GOOD IDEA.
DON"T KNOW WHY BUT MANY OTHER USERS ARE REPORTING THE SAME KIND OF PROBLEM SO APPLE ENGINEERING NEEDS TO GET BUSY AND FIX THIS PROBLEM SO THAT NEW USERS CAN CONNECT TO THE INTERNET WITHOUT HAVING TO BE TRAINED ROUTER ENGINEERS TO DO IT!!!!
Ok, sorry for the rant, but surely those of you who are experiencing this share my frustration.  This is not why I bought an APPLE product.
IS THERE ANY POSSIBILITY THAT APPLE WILL NOT ALLOW A WIFI PASSWORD with more than one identical alphanumeric character?  Any ideas?  We also tried eliminating the 40 MHZ setting under Bandwidth settings in the router settings for our router, but it made no difference.  The router has the latest firmware, too.  Running out of ideas, and am ready to box this unit up and send it back!

Thanks, Bob!  You are correct.  And, we learned this as we spoke with APPLE TECH SUPPORT by phone on Christmas day (800-APL-CARE).  One of their reps spent the time to help us troubleshoot this, but the boiled down conclusion is your answer, and to repeat for the benefit of others, here is what worked:
    1. With our Belkin router set to "out-of-the-box" WEP 64 bit security, we could not get wireless access of any kind.  Only with the Security Mode set to DISABLED, could we gain access.
    2. Changing the router's security mode setting to "WPA/WPA-2...." and entering a new min. 8 char passphrase, and then entering that same passphrase into the IPOD Touch, and restarting the router, did the trick!
Based on this, and some info found in another posting, I can only conclude that the IPODs and IPHONES do not support WEP security mode in many generic routers used by thousands of consumers.  Hopefully, those same consumers can figure out how to change their wireless router setttings to WPA/WPA-2 security mode and ALSO get all their other wireless devices (PCs, laptops, WII boxes, ROKU boxes) all reconfigured to WPA mode, too.
I THINK THE BOTTOM LINE HERE IS THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE THAT APPLE NEEDS TO ADDRESS WITH WEP COMPATIBILITY and it may also be the case that MOST CONSUMERS ARE USING WEP 64 BIT security on their home wireless routers?
In any case, it's working now, so anyone who is having problems should try changing to WPA mode and post back here if it worked for them!

hello - my ipod touch worked well until a couple of months of non-use. Now, I cannot access the internet thru my wifi. All my other devices have no such problem. I have tried resetting wifi, "forgetting network" turning wifi off and on....nothing works....can anyone help?

    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router.

  • N95 Wifi, home network and hidden access points

    Hello-
Just picked up a N95 and having some problems. First, my home network doesn't broadcast a SSID. I stumbled across the home network option and was able to configure it. However, it's never an option when I need an internet connection; e.g., it never shows up in the wlan list.
So, how do I congigure a hidden access point so I can use it? The user guide says you should be able to do it manually, but doesn't go into any details.
Secondly, exactly what is the home network setting for and why is it separate from the other wlan settings?
    Thanks,
    Jay

    Jay,
I too have a hidden network (SSID not broadcast), the N95 seems to have a problem with this. It may or may not show up on the active standby screen (on my Voda N95, it shows up when I take my sim out!).
To configure your accesss point :-
Tools / Settings / Connection / Access Points
then Options / New access point
    Connection name
(enter a name, whatever you want to call it)
    Data bearer
    =wireless LAN
    WLAN network name
    (enter your SSID here)
    Network Status
    (public or hidden)
    WLAN network mode
(Infrastructure or ad-hoc. If you're using a router, infracstructure should be the one you want)
    WLAN security mode
(Open, WEP, 802.1x or WPA2. Check your router)
    WLAN security settings
    WPA/WPA2
EAP or Pre-shared key (consult your router)
EAP plug-in settings or Pre-shared key
(which one you get depends on what you set above)
    WPA2 only mode
    (leave alone)
Having done all this it still won't show on the active-standy screen (at least it doesn't on mine) in the WLAN section BUT if you know try and surf the web it should ask which access point you want to use - assuming you've got it set to 'always ask'. What this seems to do is only list the connections that it can find (i.e if you've got a 'Starbucks' and a 'home' connection defined, it'll only show 'home' at home and 'Starbucks' when you're getting your latte. The standby screen may show, how to decribe it, a four leaf clover near to the battery level indicator, this is the indication that it's either found or connected to your wireless lan.
I think the 'Home netw.' option is for use with the Home Media Server application supplied on the CD. I haven't tried it so can't confirm for sure.
    Hope this helps,
    Simon

  • Wifi home network

how can i make my mac book pro automaticly connect to my home network when i open it. Right now I have to select my home network from the drop down list of networks at the top of my screen.

The MacBook Air will be able to sign on to the existing wireless network.

  • Automatic connection to wifi home network ceased after update

Can I get the old OS back? I'm having to manually connect to my home wifi network now. It used to connect automatically as soon as I started up the iPad. Now, whether it was asleep or turned off, I have to walk it through connecting every time. Tiresome, tiresome.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
The upgrade to iOS 4.2.1 should not affect the ability of the iPad to stay connected to your WiFi network. Since you say this happens when coming back from sleep and powering up, have you tried a hard reset of the iPad? Hold both the sleep and home buttons until the Apple Logo appears. Then let the iPad startup, go to Settings > WiFi and choose the network, enter all of the information, make sure Settings > Safari AutoFill is turned OFF, and Settings > WiFi > Ask to Join Networks is turned ON.
If those steps don't help, we can try something else.

  • Home share no longer works on iPad after ios5 update.

The home share icon is visible in video application but clicking on movies I have purchased results in an error message - cannot open. The images and info for movies and tv shows also not displayed. ...The problem has now worsened. Pressing the moeshare button to access the itunes library on my macbook progresses to half way and then stops. I have rebooted the ipad, shut down icloud, restarted home share from itunes and even rebooted the wireless router. I have also tried deactivating sinc over wi-fi. None of this work. It is worth noting that home share works on appleTV and that I have not updated appleTV OS for a few months. The next thing to try would be to reboot my macbook that I am not hopeful will achieve anything. I am just letting anyone who is experiencing the same problem know that they are not alone.

Update: After rebooting my macbook - Moves now playing. TV shows bought using a different apple ID account still does not work even though they did before.

  • Wifi / Wireless networks no longer found

PC can no longer find any wireless connections. I've done a system restore to before the previous Windows update but this has not solved it. When I troubleshoot Windows states to plug an Ethernet cable in but we have never used one before and I don't have one! I cannot spot a wireless adapter or card via Device Manager either so am now stuck - can anyone help?

Without a complete model number, I cannot give absolute advise but the unit more than likely uses a 802.11 wireless b/g/n PCI-Express Mini card for WiFi.  If you are willing to open the case to check on this and also verify that the card has not come loose, then that is what I recommend.  If the PC has not been moved or jarred lately, then more likely the card has failed.  If device manager does not show the WiFi device is there, then choices are limited and adding any software is probably not going to help.   In that case either open the case to replace the card or get a USB WiFi adapter.

I want to Sonos or Bose wireless speaker with hdtv connected to macbook pro.  I think apple tv might free my tv from being tethered to macbook pro.  PS Im new with this. Thanks for any advice.

I'm not exactly sure what it is that you are asking, however I feel that if you take a look at the Apple TV manual, it may answer the questions that you have.

  • Wifi will connect to other routers but not the one at my house

This macbook has had no trouble connecting to this particular router since we got it in august, but all of a sudden 3 days ago it stopped connection, just says connection timed out. It connects to any other router, bt hotspots, mobile tethering, just not our router at home. I'm currently connected to the troublesome router via ethernet cable with no issues. My other computer, tablet, and our phones are all connected to the router wirelessly with no issues as well.
I've tried messing with the DNS settings, forgetting the router and readding, updating software etc but no luck so far, any ideas?
I'm on OSX mavericks 10.9.5, macbook pro is from 2010, 2.4ghz core 2 duo, 4gb ram,

I realice the same kind of problems after update to 10.10.2 version. My Mac unable to connect but no problems with iPhone and iPad.
After trying some setup changes suggested by the support team through the chat the solution was:
1-Change the channel  the router is using if not within the 9 - 15 range (formerly my one used the channel 1 and I changed to 11). It can be checked at Apple>About this Mac>System Report  within the Network>WiFi paragraph under the network ID.
2-Change the DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (System preferences>Netwok>WiFi>Advanced>DNS).
    3-Turn off the Bluetooth connectivity.
In my case it means I can't use my bluetooth magic mouse when need the WiFi connection running, but .......

  • 2 iPads, but can only connect one iPad at a time to my home network.  Is this a known issue with Mac/iPads in general?

At home I have a HP PC, netbook and Sony laptop with no connection issues.  Last year I bought an iPad 1 for my wife.  This year I bought an iPad 2 for myself.  However, only one iPad can connect to the wifi home network at a time. If I am using the iPad2 then the iPad1 fails to connect to the internet.  if the iPad1 is being used then the iPad2 cannot connect.   I tried resetting iPad network settings for both, reset router, and updated both iPads to latest software/firmware yesterday.  Right now the only iPad that shows any connection is the iPad1.  The iPad2 does not see the home network or any other outside network.  Any suggestions or ideas on how to resolve this?  It is odd the network issues only affect the iPad's.

    @dananova,
It sounds like you need to either increase the number of dynamic IP addresses your router will hand out or change some of your devices to static IP addresses.
Check the router manual on how to change the dynamic IP range of your router.  If you don't have a manual, you can go to Belkin's website and download it.
To change the IP address of your iPads to static addresses, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and tap the ">" next to the name of your wireless network.  DHCP should be highlighted.  Write down the all the settings on the screen. Next tap the Static button.  Enter the exact same information that you copied from the DHCP screen with the exception of the last 3 digits of the IP address.  Enter a new 3 digit number in this spot.  Generally the original IP address will end with a low number such as 009, so pick a number that is not that low but less than 255.  I would suggest a range of 240 to 250, unless the original IP range falls near this range.  Also make sure you use a different 3 digits for each device you set to use a static IP address.
