Wifi is on but internet browsers aren't working.

Hi,
My WiFi is working but both my browser applications i.e. Internet Explorer and Google Chrome aren't working. I've used the Windows Repair Tool but it still doesn't work.

This will be hard to fix if you don't have a home wifi router to test and find the problem to diagnosis it.

  • IMac shows it is connected, but internet / airdrop don't work

This problem started to occur since yesterday. And I have no clue why. The only thing that I have been doing (all week) is writing an essay on my iMac. I do know it installed the latest OS X update recently (Mavericks 10.9.5). Anyway, this is how the problem goes:
My iMac shows that it is connected (the wifi bar at the top is full, it shows that it is connected to my home netwerk). However, when I try to browse the internet the connection keeps timing out. Even when I try to send a document through AirDrop over WiFi (to my MacBook Air) it wouldn't work. Sometimes it will send documents up to 5 or 25 percent, but then the connection times out again and it'll stop. Mind you: Yes the connection (apparently) times out, but the wifi bar at the top of my screen still shows full connection. It helps when I reboot my iMac, I then have another full 1 or 2 minutes to browse before it times out again....
I don't believe it's a problem with my home network, since my MacBook Air still connects to the internet. I also tried the Wireless Diagnostic tool, but it would say I'm all fine since there is an internet connection. What to do... What to do...?

    Hey there Modyg,
From the information in your post, it seems like you may be experiencing a software issue that is affecting your connections on your iMac. Here is an article that can outline for you some basic software troubleshooting to help you address this issue:

  • Browsers aren't working on iPad

Neither of my browsers seem to work anymore on my iPad

OK ... I give.... What happens when you launch one of your browsers? We need SOME information from you in order to try to offer help.

  • My cookies are turned on, but Firefox and other internet browsers aren't saving them, therefore not letting me log into any websites.

I think there is a security error with my computer/browser, help?

It is possible that your firewall is blocking cookies if it happens in other browsers as well.

  • WiFi stays connected but internet keeps dropping

    Hi all
Got a number of wired and wireless devices on my home network, all fed by my BT HomeHub 3.
What I've noticed recently is that both my iPad and my wife's Samsung Galaxy Tab keep dropping the internet connection. The WiFi connection appears to be unaffected. We're also getting issues with other wireless devices, but to a lesser extent as we use those considerably less.
I've done all the troubleshooting I can think of to date. I've done a hard reset on my ipad, reset network settings, restored the ipad, changed the web key, but as I'm sitting here tonight not 6 feet away from my router I'm still getting internet disconnection, whilst still full bars on my wifi connection.
I've already done numerous router reboots, and now considering a factory reset. Any other suggestions? Possibly a faulty router, or too many devices on my network?

OK, full reset done on the HH3.
I haven't touched the Channel seletion at all, and it's returned the following:
Here's the results from my WiFi analyser:
My main WiFi from my router (TvLounge) is showing on channel 6.  I also have another BT HomeHub 2 connected off a PowerLine adapter acting purely as a switch / WiFi access point on channel 9 (OldLounge) and finally an all-in-one PowerLine adapter and WiFi access point on channel 13 (CharlottesRoom).
As soon as I have reset the router i restored the SSID and WPA / WPA2 password to as it was beore. Directly after this, all devices successfully reconnected, and I immediately had intermittent WiFi issues on all connected devices (still connected to the router but loss of internet). At the time I was connected with x2 iPads, x1 Samsung Galaxy Tab, x1 Android phone.  Throughout this time I was still able to connect to the internet via my server.

  • Lion 10.7.3:  WiFi is connected, but internet access is delayed

This issue may be discussed somewhere else here, and if so I'm sorry for reposting this problem.  I have a Macbook Pro bought around June 2011.  I just updated the firmware to 10.7.3  Everytime I wake the macbook from sleep, the wifi connects immediatley, dropbox syncs immediatley, but chrome or safari won't load pages until a couple minutes after connecting.  I thought it may be a firewall problem, and I allowed connections to Chrome, but that didn't fix the problem.  Has anyone else been having issues with internet after the patch?

I suggest you talk to your local college support person.  It seems that internet access might be disabled and you need to get them to help you get it enabled.

  • Wifi is connected but internet has stopped working

I have had my new ipod touch for a week and its been working fine. i had it connected to my wifi network at home with no problems until this morning when it stopped working. the wifi connectivity is fine and works with everything else, and the ipod reads the wifi network but everything i try to poen that needs connection says its not connected. Any suggestions? i tried resetting the network to no avail and even deleted all content and settings but it still wont work any more. i wondered if its possible for there to be a fault with it rather than a software issue. i am running the latest version of everything and my old one as well as my ipad works fine.

Which one did you reset? your iPod's network or the router?
Have you checked the wi-fi configuration? its in the arrow on the right side of the SSID (in iPod), when you touch it, IP address will come out. There are 3 Configurations to choose from,  DHCP, BOOTP, STATIC.
Is your router was set to DHCP? your iPod should have a lease of IP from the router. if its blank or someting like 168.x.x.x, try use the STATIC...just put on your network segment (192.168.x.x) and the gateway of course...

  • Wifi will connect but internet won't work

So my iphone 4 will say its connected to the network (check mark beside network and good signal) but when I try to open a web page/app store/youtube it says "cannot open page not connected blah blah blah" some of my friends iphone 3gs' work no problems. also I'm in Spain and my data roaming is turned off but the cellular data is still on.(don't know if that helps but thought I would mention it.)
    Thanks in advance.
also I've tried resetting the network settings and that did not help either.

OK, that is good information for troubleshooting. Since it works on other networks the problem is either the router or corrupted settings on your phone. The first thing to do (if you can) is to reboot the router. The DHCP daemon in it may have crashed - this is very common. Just unplug it for a few seconds, then plug it in again. Also, if you can, verify that the router has the latest version of firmware available. As to why other phones work it could be that they had connected before the DHCP deamon crashed, and are reusing the original IP address.
Another possibility on the router side is that MAC (Media Access Control) filtering is enabled. This is a router feature that allows only previously approved devices to connect to the router. If it is enabled your phone must be added to the "allow" list in the router.
Finally, on the router side, it's possible that it has run out of IP addresses. This can happen if it is used by a lot of people. It would be necessary to change settings in the router to fix it.
If the problem is on your phone the first thing to try is to attempt to connect, then tap the ">" next to the network name and choose "Forget this network". Then back out of settings and reboot the phone (hole HOME and SLEEP until an Apple logo appears, about 10 seconds). After rebooting try to connect again.
If this fails next go to Settings/General/Reset and Reset Network Settings. You will lose WiFi passwords, but nothing else. Again reboot and try to connect.
One of these will most likely fix the problem. If one does please tell us which one, and if nothing helps let us know that also.

  • Connected to Wifi but Internet still isn't working and Safari can't open any pages?

I'm able to connect to Wi-Fi networks, but my Internet is still not opening web pages and none of my applications that require Internet are working.  Is this a problem with my computer or is there something I can do to fix it?

Then you are probably not actually connected. Go to Settings/Wi-Fi and tap the arrow to the right of the network that you think you are connected to. If the IP is 169..., then no you are not really connected, the iPad timed out and self-asigned the IP when it did not receive one from your router in a timely manner.
Try restarting/resetting the router, reset it to its factory settings and even check to see if there is new firmware for the router.

  • Wifi on but internet and youtube not working?

I currently have three bars of signal but my internet and youtube do not connect. I have tried re-booting but this does not seem to work. My tilt is also being slow.

    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router.
    - Reset networks settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

    Did it successfully connect before?
Do other deviceses sucsessfully connect now?

  • After 10.7.5 update, internet browsers do not work for non-admin user.

My daughter has a Macbook Air running OS 10.7.5. I'm the administrator and have no problems. My daughter has had a separate user account ever since we bought the computer 13 months ago (just out of warranty).
The computer is connected to the internet via WiFi router.
Since the most recent system update, we can't connect to any webpages when logged in under my daughter's user account.
Connections time out and the error message suggests we disable firewalls and proxies (there are none... I think).
She can still connect Mail, Skype and iTunes Store but not Safari or Firefox. We downloaded Google Chrome with the admin account and installed after this problem showed but it has the same problem when using her account.
I've searched the Apple forums and elsewhere and seen a few similar problems but none where the administrator's browsers work and the user doesn't.
By the way, there are NO parental controls activated.
    Please help.

  • Internet browsers do not work after updating to Windows 8.1.

I have spent several hours researching my issue, performing fixes that have worked for others, but to no avail. I have talked with 3rd party tech supports, in addition to Microsoft tech support. I also recently spent 3 hours under remote access with a helpdesk
    employee. To no avail.
    My issue:
Recently updated to Windows 8.1. Immediately following, none of my browsers work. Internet Explorer is entirely out of commission. Firefox and Chrome, however, interestingly, are able to open simple google pages: gmail, google maps, google search - I can
even search things that I want and results will show up... they just will not load if I click on them. The error message when I click on "More" says something along the lines of "maybe it's your firewall or antivirus wrongly detecting Chrome...",
and I think maybe something similar for Firefox. Explorer simply says that it cannot display the page.
So, how am I writing this? I am currently booted up in Safe Mode, with networking. Apparently it works here, which I'm hoping indicates that the issue to resolvable.
    Remedies I have attempted:
I have restarted my computer over 60 times in the past 2 days.
I have troubleshooted the internet connection via the button that says "troubleshoot". It says it cannot identify the problem.
I have executed various command prompts executed as administrator: i.e. netsh winsock refresh, advfirewall refresh, something to do with ipv4, ipv6, a bunch of "IP stack resets", etc, etc.
I have manually added chrome, firefox, and explorer to my firewall exceptions, both via McAfee and via the Windows firewall system. Both simultaneously, one at a time, etc, every combination of this.
I have uninstalled the web browsers and reinstalled them.
I have unintalled my antivirus and reinstalled it, and checked in between.
I have turned my firewall off.
I have manually inputted some kind of DNS address (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) and/or IP address (forget exactly what was asked of me to input).
I have gone to my "Manage Devices" and updated all of my network drivers, and attempted to revert to old versions of drivers.
There are probably more things that I have tried, I just don't remember exactly and cannot list them. Most things you can find on Google pertaining to this issue, I've tried.
Is there anything at all that anyone can think of to fix this situation? I am about ready to refresh my computer/do a systems restore/whatever to erase everything, factory reset, even (hopefully it works, because I've read that some people have issue, i.e.
no previous partition found or something, or no recovery media present, etc, etc).
Before I resign to this, PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD HELP ME.
Also, may I please note here that given the sheer frequency of this issue around the web that I've found, I think it is absolutely ridiculous and irresponsible of Microsoft not to rectify the issue. This is even 3+ months following the release of the
update; I always lag on updating such that bugs like these are fixed before I get on the train. This update has essentially reduced my multi-hundred dollar computer to an infantile calculator/solitaire/checkers/Microsoft office LCD screen. Not to mention wasted
2 full days of my time.
Sorry, just saw red there at the end and had to vent my anger. Please help.

  • Internet Browsers Don't Work

I have a G5 iMac PowerMac 1.8 gHz (see system info from System Profiler below). For the past couple of months, I am unable to load a web browser in any web browsing application. This is true even though I am able to access the internet in AOL (to check e-mail), the iTunes Music Store, and any gaming applications with Web interation.
I am accessing the internet through cable modem, connected to an Apple Airport Extreme wireless network. Per System Preferences, there does not appear to be anything wrong with my wireless network connection.
When running Firefox, the application never loads. When running Safari, the application loads, but it will not show any internet pages in a window. This weekend, Safari unexpectedly closed, and I generated an error report, copied below.
