Wifi Issue---Slow speed

Hi
I am experiencing very poor wifi performance on my xperia z1 compact.
I am always able to connect to my router and all my other devices all work fine without any issues. The issue is that 99% of the time I am getting very poor wifi speeds (I am getting good signal to the routers wifi). The strange thing is that everytime I use the speedtest app, I am reaching my target speeds (around 16mb generally), however when I try to use other apps, I am getting extremely poor wifi speeds. I have tried a factory reset and also a repair using the pc software but i am still stuck with this problem.
I had been using kitkat 4.4.2, I was hoping that updating to 4.4.4 would fix this issue but it still persists. This is my first sony device, can somebody please help remedy this problem!

I have contacted the same issue but when I raised its here some time ago I got no help or any others saying they had the same issue m my wifi always works but speed is slow. If I turn wifi off and on the speed is good for a few minutes then shows again. I was hoping the 4.4.4 update would fix it so disapointed it did not for you. Going to return phone to sony to fix this and a number of other issues including flash bleed a noisy images in general.
Ian which make of router are you using? is it Dlink by anychance?

  • IPad Air WiFi ultra slow speed issues

Having very bad WiFi streaming and general web page loading with new iPad Air, far slower than iPad Gen 1 (iOS 5) and iPhone (iOS 7).
Speed test results using same speed test app all devices pointed to same Clifton NJ server.
    Download speeds:
    iPad Air: .26 Mbps
    iPhone 5: 12 Mbps
    iPad 1: 11 Mbps
Mac Pro: 33 Mbps (Ethernet Cat 6 wired) yes I know WiFi is slower, not .26 vs 33 slower
    My network:
    Motorola SB 6141 Cable modem
All Ethernet wires are Cat 6
D-LINK DIR-655 gigabit router, WiFi should be minimum 100 or 150 Mbps (2.4 only)
Obstructions: very open modern apartment with good physical open shot to router. Bedroom wall vs router. Router is on 45 degree angle 30 feet from devices. Keep in mind that regardless of wall interference, all tests above were done with iDevices in exact same spot from bedroom to test wall interaction.
Result: iPad Air is usually not able to stream anything continuously or in HD ever. Some vid signals are amazingly pixelated to where movie credits are unreadable. So I use my iPad 1 instead for perfect viewing. Something's very wrong.
I assume the router can't differentiate between, however, AppleCare today surmised since I have 2 WiFi devices way out performing the iPad Air, it "may" be it's newer firmware being incompatible with my router, which logically would make sense to account for diff between it and a legacy iPad and modern iPhone.
Some of you online are true network geniuses so I wanted to hear your input for me and others with new iPad Air HD high speed expectations and what configurations to make in Settings and should a new Router be considered 1) because they are faster anyway and 2) if there is an iPad firmware issue with older even still working well routers like the DIR 655.
PS: in comparing configurations between devices, I see the iPad Air under Settings > WiFi > HTTP Proxy > (off, manual or auto)
Is HTTP Proxy an important setting to get max performance. I need to search and read up on it. Setting to Auto did increase dwnld speed from .26 to 9 Mbps.
    Thanks.

You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Broadband/Wifi issues

I'm of the older generation and struggling. My router (BT Home Hub 8) was in the study close to my pc and plugged into an extension socket. The phonewire ran round the room for 5 metres to a filter with phone and router connections, and that in turn went under the floor for 6 metres to the master phone socket. I initially used an ethernet cable to connect router to PC as it wasn't wifi-enabled, but my new pc is so I have been using the router on wifi. It was mostly okay, but whenever I had problems I was told it was too far from the master socket. We are having a new floor fitted, the floorcovering will be permanently fixed, so I wanted to find an alternative position for both phone and router.
The new position I chose was in an adjacent room, in the middle of the house, plugged into the master phone socket 1 metre away. It was useless on wifi. Slow speed. I was told it was because we have a metal filing cabinet in direct line between router and pc. So I spent £35 on BT Extenders that work through the house wiring, using ethernet cables to connect power unit to router, and PC to a socket. It is all worse. The speed is fixed at 100 mbps, no way of checking the signal strength to the router, but the relevant light on the Extenders is frequently red for "poor signal". I've tried moving it higher, lower, further away, no change. The blue light on the router doesn't change.
What am I doing wrong, and how can I improve the situation?

    Hi GG
Thanks for replying. No such thing as Infinity round here - we only get 12 channels on Freeview too and then only if we hang the aeriel out of the window! Mobile phones have similar issues.
First problem is I took advice from an "expert" and have now made alterations to the study room layout based on that advice.
Original set-up was 5 metre extension wire from master socket, under study floor to splitter/filter on study desk. Phone went into this, and router wire via another 6 metres to computer. Whenever we had problems the tut-tutters said the wiring was too long, and two extensions was two too many. And I did worry about having so much wiring under the floor. So to answer your first question, yes, I could do what you suggest but was told it wasn't good. Except the position where we had the router is now inaccessible but I could perhaps install a shelf for it.
New set up was to put the router closer to the master socket, but the transfer rate dropped from 72 mbps to I can't remember, but the result was poor, Hence we purchased the BT Extender 500 units to use the house wiring to transmit from router to computer. The result is worse, I can only assume that the router isn't getting a good signal in its new position. I've now tried about 20 combinations of postions for everything, and the best still seems to be the original set-up, long wires/double extensions, the lot, except, as said above, the original router position is inaccessible.
I will now have a look at the next person's reply. Many thanks, and I will bear it all in mind. I just don't understand why these new super-duper Extenders didn't do the job.

It seems that people experience slow wifi on iphone with IOS 6 under slightly different circumstances.
Some have slow/choppy video streaming, some have problems with large dropbox files, some with app store and some with podcasts.
    Which is your problem AdeelRasheed?
Me personally, I have download speed when on wifi.
    But only when downloading podcasts...
    Running 6.0.1 or 6.1 on iPhone 5, iPhone 4 and iPad 2.
On WIFI I can download a 45 mb app from the appstore in less than a minute. I can stream Youtube and Netflix with no problems. Internet browsing - no problems.
But downloading podcasts with Instacast 3, Downcast or the Apple Podcast app happens at a rate of 20-80 kb/s when on WIFI. As soon as I switch to 3g ( 4g/LTE is not yet available from my local provider) my download speed goes to between 300kb/s and 2 mb/s.
    Anyone else have this problem?

So, about a week ago my macbook pro started having lots of issues: wifi connectivity, slow performance, sound issues, spotlight wasn't working. After going through the issues with apple support, they decided the best course of action was to erase the hard drive and do a reinstall. Since I have a recent backup this seemed like a good enough option. They were kind enough to send me a copy of the snow leopard disk to do the install since we couldn't get it to complete through the disk utility. Not sure why, since it says we are fully connected, it just never completed.
Anyway, so now that you have the background here is the new issue. The macbook pro keeps spitting out the disk I'm trying to install from. Disk utility and using the 'Startup Disk' function from the apple menu doesn't read the disk.
Can anyone suggest a solution to this vexing problem?
    Thanks in advance.

    Jeremy.Laurin,
have you tried agb76’s approach here?

  • IOS7 wifi and LTE speed very slow.

iOS7 wifi and LTE speed very slow compared to iOS6.  This was proven with Safari and using speed test app.

I have exactly the same problem symptom ever since installing iOS7. Toggling the FaceTime or the LTE settings alleviated the problem until I installed the latest version on IOS (7.0.4- 11B554a). Now the bug is permanent, a Network Reset will not work anymore, a System Reset will work only for the first execution of Speedtest.
Looks like the network software is throttling LTE speed to the minimum (.50 Mbps) up/download speed no matter what. Now unlimited Data means nothing, maybe AT&T wants me to go to Verizon or Tmobile.
I reported this problem to AT&T Sept 26 when I first installed IOS7, they told me there was no problem really that I needed to wait for the LTE network congestion to go away...? Since I found a circumvention by toggling LTE I did not pursued the problem...
After reporting the problem again this morning, they sent me to the AT&T store to change the SIM card.... I will try this and report back if it fixes the problem... Although I doubt it will fix anything but burn and extra hour of my day. The AT&T rep said that if the new SIM card doesn't fix the problem I need to go to Apple for them to give me a new Iphone....???? I guess there are many iPhones gone bad after installing IOS7 (sarcasm).
If you have this same problem, please post here so that I am able to get back to AT&T with some leverage to get them to remove the choking of LTE. Basically, if everyone accepts the new low speeds, then, unlimited data is no longer a problem for this phone company.

  • WiFi issues with Curve 8530

    Hi,
I am having major WiFi issues with my Curve 8530. Everytime I connect to my wireless router, it takes a long time to connect to BIS, and then if I try to use basically any data at all, my router drops my Curve 8530. Sometimes it stays connected, but I cannot use App World at all, and email, and web browsing is all over the place in terms of speed, sometimes it is fast, while sometimes it is slow, and most of the time it stalls while loading a page. How do I configure my router for use with BIS and have it not drop my Curve 8530 everytime I use data over WiFi? BIS works perfectly over my cellular carriers network, so BIS is activated on my device. I have tried giving my BB a static IP, but that did not solve anything. My router is a Netgear WNR2000. Also, I have the latest device software installed on my BB, and all of my apps are up-to-date.

    Hi,
Have you had any luck and resolving your problem?
We have a similar problem but it's with iOS devices where only one can connect at a time. We have about 10 that need to connect. All other laptops and tablets connect fine.
Power cycling the AX411 fixes it temporarly.

  • 2009 Macbook issue: download speed limitation

    Hi
Mi wife got a late 2009 white macbook that's driving me crazy. Despite we got a 7Mbit ADSL connection and all others macs at home (we got 2 more 2008 macbooks and a 2008 macbook pro) with the very same OS version (10.6.4) and network settings are working properly and downloading at full speed, her one looks to have some kind of speed limitation in download to around 1.5 Mbps.
The ping and upload speeds are the very same of other computers, and apparently randomly the download speed also on that computer gets back to around 7 Mbps...
I just spent the afternoon doing tests and I got nowhere but maybe I found a pattern...
    First what I excluded:
-doesn't depend on how it's hooked to the net, same behavior by ethernet or wifi in both cases the other service was off
-any other mac using the same connection is working properly, did side by side tests
-ping is always the same on both computers used for test
-it is not a DNS issue
-deleted and created a new position in Network panel
    -did several restarts, no solution
-doesn't depend on a specific app being used (but maybe apps can matter, see below)
-none of possible fixes I found online did work
-probably it isn't related to OS version or updates, this issue has likely been there since a lot of time, and over more os updates (not really sure of this, we had unrelated netwok issues and changed provider for that reason in last year, we cot a stable and uniform environment just recently)
    Now what I noticed:
-As soon as the computer is started and I open a single browser (be it Safari, Chrome or Firefox doesn't change) speedtest.net test is ok, 7Mbps download.
-work and navigate with it, it's ok, download speed remains 7Mbps
-As soon another internet using application is opened (Mail, another browser) the connection speed drops to 1.5 Mbps (this is ALWAYS the limit, no relevant fluctuation in this)
-If I close any of above apps and remain with a single browser, running tests initially report still the 1.5 limit, but shortly after (one or two minutes) the speed gets back to 7Mbps
My wife needs to work with Mail, Skype, and at least two browsers open, so this limit is giving her great troubles

    taylor.henderson wrote:
-none of possible fixes I found online did work
This doesn't really help narrow down the problem
    {quote}
doh, you are right... sorry... the possible fixes I had found around are the ones reported right before...
Create a new user account on the problem computer and see if the slow speeds and strange behaviour persists in it.
    I did, it does...
    - created a new user and logged in
    - opened Safari, speedtest returns 7Mbit/s in download
    - opened Firefox, after a little speed drops to 1.4
    - some successive test starts slow (1.4) then sometimes speeds up, but most remain at 1.4
    - start chrome too, same behaviour
    - close Safari and Firefox, wait a little (1 or 2 minutes) do the test with Chrome, back to 7Mbit/s
Then go through stuff like this http://www.gballard.net/macrant/osx_troubleshooting.html.
I went through it and did most of what's suggested there (it's a little complex because when I am not working my wife is usually using her macbook to study and needs to use it all the time)...
    - unused disk space is 95,6 GB
    - booted in single user mode and did a fsck -fy
    - repaired permissions
Nothing changed, both the behavior takes place in new user account, and in main one, where any internet using application (Mail, Skype...) opened together causes the download slow down...

  • Slow speeds abound

For a few months now, I have noticed my connection speeds getting slower and slower and across multiple devices.  I use a Macbook Pro for streaming video and a Roku for streaming on my TV.  In the past I could always stream at HD qaulity, and over the last few months I have seen it getting worse and worse to where now I can't stream in HD at all anymore.  I have tried the optimizer.  Also my Roku is connected via a wired connection to the router so it can't be a wifi issue.  I of ourse have reset the router with no avail.  I have contacted verizon and all they seem to tell me is to reset the router and everything should be fine.
Any ideas on what else I could do or what I should do next?
Btw, I have tried multiple speeds tests and I get anywhere from 15 to 20 mbps download and 10 to 15 mbps upload.  I pay for 25/25.

Have you rebooted the ONT yet?

  • IPad mini Wifi is slow

I just found out that my wifi on my iPad mini is very slow compared to my iPhone's speed. It has full bars but the wifi is slow. i did i side by side comparision with my iphone and found that it is lagging alot behind. Some times i cant even connect which means that i have to resst the network settings or turn off the device. HELP?!

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Slow Speeds, Poor Service (Yes.. this is a rant)

    As per the title:
I've had about enough of Verizon, and it's trash line quality and equally as terrible technical support.
9 months ago, my wife and I ordered a dry-loop DSL installation. We spent roughly 2-3 weeks awaiting a technician, to make the installation (which included a home installation for a splitter on a walljack), and throughout those 2-3 weeks, the technician insisted he was at our home, and no one was here. Thing is, we have 3 dogs, who go nuts when anyone approaches our driveway, let alone comes to our front door. The technician who was dispatched, was full of it; simple as that.
We ended up canceling our order, and per the recommendation of a customer support rep (via phone), we placed a NEW order, for home phone + DSL installation (according to the rep, dry loop was "difficult".. lol.. really!?), and the rep "promised" we'd have a different technician dispatched and the previous one would be "reported" to a supervisor.
Much to our surprise, the new technician actually arrived a week later, on time, and completed the installation in a timely manner (and was as polite as could be). During the installation, he informed my wife and I, that the rep who claimed the dry loop installation was "difficult", was being dishonest; which we already knew, but it showed that the guy had some integrity, and was at the least, honest.
About 2 months later, we couldn't tolerate the slow speeds any longer. Our package guranteed at LEAST a 1Mb connection, with speeds up to 3Mb (which is the package we ordered), but we consistently received less than 500Kbps, often times less than 200, or even 100. Once again, we had to request a technician, but this time, for a "home run" installation (which eliminates all wiring between our modem/router and the telephone pole). Thankfully, we received the same technician who performed the installation 2 months prior, and during the installation, I asked what HIS opinion was of the issue. He claimed it was just the lines, and that the "hub" at the end of our street, needed an upgrade to support our connection.
It has been SEVEN months, and Verizon has yet to address the obvious TRASH line quality, that I've invested $80+ into a month, and never received anything over 1Mb. Which brings me to:
Verizon's Copy/Paste Speciailists (aka "Technical Support")
My last conversation with a tech support agent, has thoroughly convinced me that Verzion is incapable of caring about their customers. The blind stupidity of this agent was befuddling! I mean, the guy actually told me to reboot my router while I was chatting with him ONLINE!
Quite frankly, if Verzion would stop using third-world call centers who hire people with a lack of comprehension in the English language, maybe customers would receive better support. I've had my fill of speaking to insensate, uneducated dimwits who Copy > Paste all of their pregenerated responses, that never result in a resolution.
Simply put, Verizon is by far, thee worst ISP in central Pennsylvania, and they'd do well by the decent, average, hard-working citizen to simply pull out of the area and allow more legitimate companies to get a foothold here. It's pathetic, that I've gotten to the point that I literally go out of my way, to encourage friends and family to avoid Verizon's services, at any cost. I've actually footed an installation fee for a friend who had to pay a fee to have service extended to his area, by another ISP.
The general synopsis of this wall of text, is that for 9 months, I've endured outrageous prices, for speeds worse than dial-up, all the while tolerating foreign technical support that left me in a blind rage after each encounter. If it weren't for the several obligations I have, that require me to maintain internet service, I'd have canceled my account with Verizon MONTHS ago, and purchased service elsewhere. But unfortunately, the money-grubbing company that is Verizon, has a monopoly in my county, and a belligerent chokehold on their customers. I absolutely despise Verizon, and wouldn't mind seeing them file Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. Ever wonder where the money in our economy has gone? Check Verizon's finances - they rob their customers blind.

Send me a PM. I'd like to get to the bottom of this without going through the nonsense tech support puts you through. If you're supposed to be at 1Mbps, I'm going to get you to 1Mbps. I'm on a 1Mbps line and it's unacceptable for my line to fall below that. When it does, I've got contacts who fix it on the spot, no questions asked. I understand if 15Mbps is a problem to maintain on a legacy network, but not 1Mbps, a bread and butter tier on a bread and butter network.
Oh, did I say I got Verizon to fix a congestion issue for a small town nearby me just recently? Had several people ask me about it. All coming off of common equipment, spoke to a few people, took 20 minutes, and those lines are behaving unusually well from what I've heard so far. Still some work to do but I've been working on making sure it gets fixed.

  • Wifi Issues...Second Router?

My Actiontec modem is located on the ground level, tucked away in a laundry room and because the way my house was pre-wired I cannot move it to a different location. My dilemma is that the wifi sucks on the second and third floors, especially for my iPad and iPhone. Would it help, if possible, to a wifi router and have it located on the second/third floor and just use if for mobile devices? Or is there a better solution?

I second the motion to getting APs for one of both of the floors and directly wiring it to Ethernet. Wireless N or Wireless G, the speed difference will be a lot better roaming onto nearby APs over connecting to the ActionTec on a weak signal.
There are a few things you need to keep in mind with Wireless N. In order to make use of the Wireless N speeds, the devices need to support Wireless N. Wireless G and Wireless B devices will cause the access point to run at slower speeds. Second, WPA2-PSK AES must be used on devices. Disabling Mixed Mode security that uses WPA and WPA2 is the best way to ensure devices use WPA2. Third, WMM Quality of Service must be enabled on the Wireless in order to make use of the speeds. These settings will help to ensure you're getting the most out of N. A fouth note for N, is that on the 2.4Ghz band I would strongly suggest against using 40Mhz "Wide" mode. Doing so will give you more speed, but it also puts you in a position for additional interference from other networks nearby/APs in your home. It can also reduce the stable range of the network and cause issues with non-N devices. 20Mhz 2.4Ghz is the only mode supported in the full Wireless N Specification. 40Mhz is outlined as a Draft mode.
You can be creative on how to set it up. The best way to set up the APs is to run them on different channels (Channels 1, 6, or 11) to ensure they don't interfere with each other. For roaming, you would want to ensure each of the APs run on the same SSID and run on the same security key. Roaming won't be as smooth as multi-AP setups ran by an AP Controller, but if set up correctly it should be pretty seamless.

  • Ipad mini retina dispaly wifi issues 8.0.2

    Hello,
Ipad Mini Retina Display version ios 8.0.2
    Model ME814C/A
    Scenario:
Before the upgrade to 8.0.2 WIFI the IPAD connected immediately when I arrived home and browsing the Internet was fast (did not do a speed test before the upgrade).
After the upgrade to 8.0.2 WIFI shows as being connected in the General Tab but I am unable to browse the internet. Messages come in to Facebook Messenger but I am unable to respond to them because it shows as connecting.
What I've done to Troubleshoot the issue:
I have to go to General, WIFI, Turn Off WIFI and turn it back on then it connects. I leave the ipad idle for say 1 min and again it disconnects from the WIFI.
I went to General clicked on reset  and clicked on Reset Network settings and the result is the same.
I went to General and clicked erase all contents and settings and I still get the same result.
I switched DNS to 8.8.8.8 and still the same result.
Apple support are you working to address these lingering wifi issues?
    Much appreciated

I have two different ISPs.  My connection to U-verse is very slow, but my iPad mini connects rIght away and stays connected.  My TWC connection is much faster yet the iPad connection lasts for a very short time, unless I am sitting directly in front of the router with the iPad almost touching it.  It always shows that the iPad is connected though.  Otherwise I am constantly rebooting the iPad, removing and re entering the router info, turning wifi on and off, etc.  before the 8.0 update, my mini worked perfectly.

  • Slow speeds with roaming network

I just got a new HTC One M8 which has the wireless AC capability.  I am getting really slow speeds on my home network and hoping someone can help.
My current setup is as follows - a motorola surfboard modem hooked up (ethernet) to the new model Airport Extreme (with the AC), from there I have a powerline adapter hooked up to another part of the house where I have the older model Airport Extreme (I think 5th gen) - and I am using this in roaming mode to extend the signal.
This works fantastic for my devices which run on N, and everything flies with little to no issues no matter where I am in the house.  But this phone - it is incredibly slow.  When I run speed tests, at times I am getting decent download on the phone (20mbs) but getting absolutely 0 upload (literally 0.0 mbs).  It works from time to time but is cutting in and out frequently.. So - What I am wondering is, would the fact that the router downstairs broadcasting an AC signal conflict with the upstairs broadcasting an N?  I am wondering if the phone is constantly switching from one band to another and causing my speed issues?  I tried the wifi on another network which just had an N signal, and had no issues whatsoever so I know it is something to do with my home network.
Again - I don't have this issue with any of my other devices (iphone 5, laptop, Ipad etc) so I don't believe the issue lies with my ISP, just looking for advice or if anyone knows if this setup would cause issues with AC devices?  I like having the 2nd router upstairs as it really boosts the signal for my N devices and also gives me the ability to hard wire the PS4, xbox etc - so I definitely want to keep it setup - but am thinking I might need to set it up as a new network and turn off the roaming.. Thoughts?  Thanks in advance.

i'd tweak it and think you're making it worse by having 2 different networks, both your routers are very capable dual mode so you should let the router and the devices decide which band to use (2 vs 5) vs your choosing it for them
once your network is setup correctly, restart any stationary clients ensuring that they are grabbing the strongest signal present
keep flatex downstairs, factory reset it and create a new network, trust me you'll want to factory reset to avoid issues when setting up the towerex
for now, put towerex next to flatex, factory reset it, and connect an eth cable from LAN on flatex to WAN (circle icon) on towerex
give it a minute or 2, open airport utility and you'll get the option to setup towerex as a WIRED extension, do this
now the painful part, play around with different set of electrical outlets to find the ones that give your towerex the best connection
remember, to turn the wifi on/off for the device you're using to test the towerex after each move or it will likely be connected to the flatex

  • IOS 8 WIFI ISSUES  5ghz airplay related! the real workaround here

Ever since upgrading to IOS 8, including IOS 8.01, 8.02 and 8.1 I had the wellknown Wifi issue. wifi speeds dropping from 120mbps to about 2mbps @ 5ghz in within a minute after connecting to the wifinetwork. often i couldn't even surf at all. but the wifi signal was always strong. With every update i was hoping for a solution from Apple but it never came. Tried everything that can be found on the internet. Resetting the network settings. Disabling "wifi networking" under Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services. Reinstalling my Ipad from scratch Used different routers and different setups. Automatic ip's and fixed ip's and different dns servers just to be sure. Nothing worked. The only workaround is switching to a 2.4Ghz network. So i was doing some tests and found THE solution, but i don't like it all. One of the biggest changes in IOS 8 is the ability to use airplay without a network. by using a wifi connection in combination with bluetooth. And here lies the problem. I disconnected al my Airplaydevices from my network. Denon AV-amplifier AVR2113, Pioneer wireless speaker XW SMA3 and an airport express. Et voila... My Ipad is back to normal. fast... no very fast internet connection and stable as ****. Just like iOS 7 was. Working with it for a couple of hours now without any trouble at all. But do i connect one Airplay device to the network the wifi is not stable anymore and extremely slow again on my ipad air. My Macbook running mac os x mavericks doesn't have these issues, neither does my iphone 5S. and they are also on the same 5ghz network. So I can create and recreate the issue and create a work around... Apple please come with a solution that makes me able to use airplay an ipad (on ios8) on a 5ghz network! like in iOS 7!!!!

I'm just going to throw something different into the mix.  Could it just be that different Wi-Fi networks may use different ISPs and each ISP will have it's own configuration settings?
For example, if you have an iPhone on Cellular Network 1 and send an email, it'll use the SMTP server for that network. If you're using your home Wi-Fi you'll have the SMTP server for your ISP in your iPhone's settings, and that's what your iPhone will use when sending an email from home. But if you're accessing a different Wi-Fi network somewhere and it's using a different ISP, then it'll have a different SMTP server. So, sending an email for example won't work unless you turn off Wi-Fi and force your iPhone to use your Cellular Network instead (because it'll have the SMTP server for that network).
Now, the example above is specific to email, but I'm just trying to think outside the square a little compared to the other responses here.
Hope this helps you progress to a solution.
    Joe.
