Wifi keeps dropping or not being found

Just switched to VZ and got smartphones, Apple i4s.
I have been at home, work and my friends house with my new phone, connected to networks and then disconnected..
When I go to the Wifi setting, and search for networks, sometimes nothing shows up (the circle thing moves, then nothing is there, no networks)  Then I will try it again  over and over and it may or may not find the network.  (FYI)  I do have an itouch which always works fine and finds all the networks and connects automatically (home, work or friends).
If it does find the network, it will connect.  Then the network will disappear and I will be on 3G.  I go into setting to search  networks and nothing is there and sometimes it will show the network.
A friend said it is an ongoing with Verizon and mentioned something about  a booster.  I don't want to go buy something to 'boost' it.  My other friend has ATT and she doesn't have these issues.
Because I have not had it for even a week, I would like to know what I can do aside from switch service providers.
I called customer service from my friends house while I was there (she lives a distance from me), to find out if it was something wrong that I have done, because her network did not show up.  It appeared and then as fast as it appeared, it disappeared, so I don't think it is because of where I live.  It does the same thing at home and at work.
I have used my itouch at all places many times before, with no problems.
I hope VZ is reading this and can give me some helpful information.
Sincerely,
Lisa

Odd2see, well this issue is certainly odd to see, but I want to make sure we get your iPhone all up and running. I've used several iPhones and haven't experienced this issue. Also, WiFi isn't related to the network, so you would not need a cell booster/network extender for this issue. If you haven't already, try deleting your paired connections and re-add. Another thing to try is to Reset your Network Settings by going to Settings, General, Reset, Reset Network Settings. If you're still having an issue after this, I suggest restoring the device as new via iTunes on your computer http://bit.ly/SzGLK.
Let me know if you continue to experience issues with WiFi.

    A few suggestions:
Change your router channel number.  Most times this works & is all you have to do.

  • Wifi keeps dropping out on MacBook Pro after installing Yosemite

Wifi keeps dropping out on MacBook Pro after installing Yosemite. This is not good.  Apparently, a lot of people are having this issue with Yosemite.  Any suggestions for my MacBook Pro?  It's bad enough that Yosemite looks so boring, but to have a major issue like constantly disconnecting from wifi is deplorable.
I plan to keep Mavericks on my iMac until this issue is resolved.

  • [Solved] MSI GE40 2PC wifi keeps dropping

Recently got the GE40 2PC (not 20PC, people tend to confuse them). Wifi keeps dropping every 5-25 min. Is there a i=fix for this? I already checked wifi drivers and its said I'm already using the most recent drivers. Somehow I'm worried it may have something to do with the wifi temperature. I read that if the wifi gets overheated itll stop and the 2PC can get quite hot sometimes. I havent had a chance to try another wifi network yet.

What did you use to check the driver?
You should find the latest driver from MSI webiste under GE40 2PC page.

  • WD Mybook not being found

    Hi,
Anybody have any ideas why the WD mybook using firewire or usb is not being found by the iMac?? It had been working fine until a week ago and it will work in a windows enviroment. Any ideas woud be great Thanks.
    Imac 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The format maybe in NTFS (windows), as far as I know macs cant read that, see if Mac OS X can find it by going Macintosh HD > Utilities > Disk Utility or (Spotlight > Disk Utility) and see if you can see it there with your iMac hard disk, if it is unplug it and backup everything on your PC and wipe the external drive, then plug back in your iMac and then go to Macintosh HD > Utilities > Disk Utility or (Spotlight > Disk Utility) and format the external HD in FAT or FAT32 when done unplug and take back to windows pc and copy data back to drive. Try that and post your results

  • HT1349 iphone 4S - my wifi keeps dropping or it comes up with a message "unable to connect"

iphone 4S - my wifi keeps dropping or it comes up with a message "unable to connect"

    1. Did this just start randomly, or have you ever been able to connect to this network?
    2. Does this phone connect to other wifi networks?
    3. What is the strenght of the wifi connection when you are close to the router (1-3 bars)?
Try to isolate and see if this is just an issue with just this network. If so, and you have access to the settings on the router, I would test out with no security or a different chanel. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199 gives all of the recomended settings for wifi networks so that the phone should work optimally with that network
If you are having this same issue with all wifi networks and have gone through a full restore of the phone to new, then you likely have a hardware issue with your phone and may need to look at repair/replacement to resolve this.

  • TS4611 Guys if you have these build: 12E3200 and your wifi is dropping, is not the your mid 2013 macbook air, is your router, I solve it by setting up my time capsule as a new network problem solved

Here is what I have been doing:
I got my new macbook air 11" two weeks ago, and have been haven problems with wifi connection dropping, I'm using verizon fioz at home, and their router
I also have a time capsule not set up as a network just join it to my current one.
After looking online all these days, I though, maybe is the verizon device that is updated..
I then reset the time capsule, created a new network
connected my system to the time capsule network, and there it is
    DONE, everything works now.
So if you are haven the same problem,, that is the fix
    hope that helps.
Oh  before I did these I try everything, the wifi update from apple don't work it keeps dropping it
I try everything, so don't and delete the system as some people have done, I read somewhere.
try my fix hopes that works.

I have seen lots of issues on Yosemite with Wifi (and have been having issues myself), but yours seem different. It is a pretty new computer, have you tried taking it in under Applecare (if you live somewhere this is convenient)? Maybe you just got a defective wifi card.  I won't defend Apple over this wifi mess, because it really is terrible, but your issue seems not the same as the ones I've read about while researching how to fix mine (unsucessfully....).

  • Wifi keeps dropping out after 9months without problems

At Christmas I bought my lady an Ipad(retina with wifi) sometime after that I noticed my 9month old iphone4s was not connecting to wifi, i thought it may be a DHCP problem on the EDIMAX wifi router which is setup to run WEP, I have tried the following roughly in this order. All with varying degrees of temporary success!
1 toggle wifi in iphone settings
    2 toggle airplane mode,
    3 Reboot iphone,
    4 Reboot router,
5 Factory reset router - no password no encryption,
6 restore via tunes from december 2012 backup
7 restore via itunes from march 2012 backup
8 general reset and restore from march 2012 backup
9 as above but reset all settings via phone
10 Reset network settings in iphone
my wifi constantly drops out, sometimes the wifi toggle switch has greyed out requiring iphone reboot, sometimes even that hasnt worked and requires that the ihone has been restored.
I am now at a loss as to what has happened, is it hardware or software? I bought the phone from Tesco but am i correct that I can take it into any apple store for help?
    TIA

Genius bar told me that the greyed out wifi toggle apparently is an indication the there is a hardware fault!
As you know if you followed the thread, I was able to recover for a very short time by restoring the operating system, but within 30mins the connection was being dropped. toggling the wifi on and off by either "forgetting network" settings or resetting iphone, or using the "aircraft mode" almost always results in a wifi toggle switch being greyed out! I don't know but it is possible that the errors are being tallied internally and on reaching a preset quota inform the user that there is an issue, This in my case takes the form of the wifi being greyed out!
The phone was just in warranty and apple replaced it free of charge, It had a month to run but the phone comes with a 90 day warranty. It was fully backed up so no real problem other than the 100mile round trip to the apple store.

  • 2011 iMac running 10.8.4 Lion - WiFi keeps dropping out - Please help!

Ever since I upgraded from 10.8.3 to 10.8.4, my iMac wireless internet connection keeps dropping off - I have to keep turning Wifi off and on again to establish the connection. It is not a problem with the modem or the internet as we have 4 different devices and none of them have this issue. I would say it happens every 5-10 minutes - VERY annoying!
If anyone has any tips on how to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    MRaja

Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article.
    Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. The program also generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it.
    Step 4
This step will erase all your settings in the Network preference pane. Make a note of them before you begin, and recreate them afterwards. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the preference pane.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 5
