Wifi keeps dropping out on both my macs however wifi is working fine on other computers in the house

My wifi keeps dropping out every 5 minutes on both my new macbook pro and my older mac. However I also have other PC's and the internet/wifi is working fine on them?

Are you running Yosemite? 10.10.X?
If so this is a current issue in Yosemite:

Wifi keeps dropping out on MacBook Pro after installing Yosemite. This is not good.  Apparently, a lot of people are having this issue with Yosemite.  Any suggestions for my MacBook Pro?  It's bad enough that Yosemite looks so boring, but to have a major issue like constantly disconnecting from wifi is deplorable.
I plan to keep Mavericks on my iMac until this issue is resolved.

Why doesn't it remember the wifi password like the other i devises, it's a bugger entering it in every time.

My iPod touch 5th gen isn't charging and when I plug my working charger in that I've always used a message pops up that says "This accessory may not be supported". So can I send it in for a new one if I have a warranty?

My Wi-Fi connection on my iMac drops frequently. The other computers in the house do not have this problem. If I go into the Network Preferences and choose my Network it connects immediately but it does not remember the setting and I must reselect my network frequently.

The iMac picks up a wireless signal from the back of the screen, so you would want to avoid having it close to a wall, or in a confined area where the wireless signal cannot easily reach the iMac's antenna.
We don't know how far the iMac is from your wireless router, or how many walls or other obstructions might be in the signal path that would limit the quality of signal that the iMac receives.
Nor do we know whether you might have a cordless phone near the iMac, or whether you may be using a wireless keyboard and/or mouse....all of which can interfere with the wireless signal.
Can you provide some more info on this?

  • Wifi keeps dropping out after 9months without problems

At Christmas I bought my lady an Ipad(retina with wifi) sometime after that I noticed my 9month old iphone4s was not connecting to wifi, i thought it may be a DHCP problem on the EDIMAX wifi router which is setup to run WEP, I have tried the following roughly in this order. All with varying degrees of temporary success!
1 toggle wifi in iphone settings
    2 toggle airplane mode,
    3 Reboot iphone,
    4 Reboot router,
5 Factory reset router - no password no encryption,
6 restore via tunes from december 2012 backup
7 restore via itunes from march 2012 backup
8 general reset and restore from march 2012 backup
9 as above but reset all settings via phone
10 Reset network settings in iphone
my wifi constantly drops out, sometimes the wifi toggle switch has greyed out requiring iphone reboot, sometimes even that hasnt worked and requires that the ihone has been restored.
I am now at a loss as to what has happened, is it hardware or software? I bought the phone from Tesco but am i correct that I can take it into any apple store for help?
    TIA

Genius bar told me that the greyed out wifi toggle apparently is an indication the there is a hardware fault!
As you know if you followed the thread, I was able to recover for a very short time by restoring the operating system, but within 30mins the connection was being dropped. toggling the wifi on and off by either "forgetting network" settings or resetting iphone, or using the "aircraft mode" almost always results in a wifi toggle switch being greyed out! I don't know but it is possible that the errors are being tallied internally and on reaching a preset quota inform the user that there is an issue, This in my case takes the form of the wifi being greyed out!
The phone was just in warranty and apple replaced it free of charge, It had a month to run but the phone comes with a 90 day warranty. It was fully backed up so no real problem other than the 100mile round trip to the apple store.

  • Why does my wifi keep dropping out

The Wifi on my new Mac mini works for a short time and then drops out.  We have no trouble with either of our Macbooks and had no trouble with the iMac G5 that we have replaced with the Mini.  The Wifi router is in the same place as previously.

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    10.4 instructions...
Is that Interface dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

  • 2011 iMac running 10.8.4 Lion - WiFi keeps dropping out - Please help!

Ever since I upgraded from 10.8.3 to 10.8.4, my iMac wireless internet connection keeps dropping off - I have to keep turning Wifi off and on again to establish the connection. It is not a problem with the modem or the internet as we have 4 different devices and none of them have this issue. I would say it happens every 5-10 minutes - VERY annoying!
If anyone has any tips on how to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    MRaja

Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article.
    Step 2
If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. The program also generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it.
    Step 4
This step will erase all your settings in the Network preference pane. Make a note of them before you begin, and recreate them afterwards. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the preference pane.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "SystemConfiguration" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 5

  • SR101 WiFi keeps dropping out

Like a lot of other posters on here I am having serious issues with the wifi on my SR101 hub. Wired connection works fine, but the wifi drops out every 10-15 minutes and then either I have to reset the hub or, increasingly often, there is nothing I can do other than wait 5 minutes or so and the connection will come back.
I've followed all the advice I could find on here (analysing my house for the best wifi channel to use and changing appropriately etc) but nothing has made any difference. I only have 6 wireless devices connected at absolute maximum so I don't think that's the issue.
I'm currently out of contract with Sky so I could just move to another provider and get a better hub, but hopefully someone can suggest another way to fix the issue.
    Thanks, Simon

    1. Have you tried rebooting router?
    2. Reset network settings
    3. Have you tried changing the security settings e.g. WEP, WPA, WPA2
    4. Have you tried changing channel; try channel 1, 6 or 11 (non-overlapping channels)?
    5. Reduce the number of walls between your iPad and the router.
    6. Have you tried changing wireless protocol e.g. a/b/g/n

  • IPod's wifi keeps dropping out and will not locate any networks.

I got a new iPod a few months ago to replace an old one that had a white screen, and it can connect to my internet but after about 5-10 minutes, sometimes less it disconnects and when I try to reconnect it doesn't even pick up my wifi network anymore. If I restart it it reconnects for about a minute then disconnects again. I have tried everything, restoring my ipod completely, restoring the network settings, restarting it, turning it off and on and turning off the wifi then on again, and nothing works, the problem is still there. My internet is not the problem as I have also tried restarting the router and it does nothing, and all the computers in my house work fine with the internet. I've run out of ideas.

II would try with another network. If it also occurs with another network that would indicate a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
If it works OK on another network that points to a problem with your router.

  • My 5yr old iMac will not connect to the Internet. All other computers in the house will, including my Mac pro and iPad. What should I do?

My 5yr old iMac will not connect to the Internet. All other computers at home will, including my Mac Pro and iPad. I'm at my wits end. What should I do?

Which OS are you using (update your user profile).Try a
    SMC RESET
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.

  • Wifi keeps dropping out

I've noticed recently my wifi seems to drop every 5-10 minutes.
I don't see any signs, no exclamation marks etc. I just find web pages take a long time to load, I go into the Network Preferences > Assist Me > Diagnostics and via that I see a yellow mark next to various areas (it changes but it's usually 2 or 3 of either the ISP, Wifi or Server).  If I hit continue and go through the process on in the diagnostics section it re connects to my wifi and works again for the 10 minutes or so.
I don't find this happening on my other devices.
Is there any way I can find out why it's dropping so often?

I cannot get this macbook pro to connect to ebay. Other apple computers in my house on same network will but this one will not. This one will connect to any other site, but not ebay. Thoiguhts?

    Try using OpenDNS servers:
    System Preferences>Network>Advanced>DNS.
Click on the + in the left side column and add the following:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK, then click Apply
BTW one post is sufficient. Two clogs the servers.

  • External HDD keeps dropping out (without ejecting itself) ~ due to 1 bad partition

    Hi,
As stated above, my faithful WD 1TB MyPassport HDD keeps dropping out by itself, ie. icon disappears from my desktop and I get left with a 'eject before disconnect...' message.
At first it would appear to be a cable/USB/corrupt disk issue, BUT..........this is only happening since I tried to delete a partition using DiskUtility, (I have 2 partitions, I'll refer to the one I was trying to delete 'Partition1'), halfway through this  my Mac froze. I'm using a macbookpro[Alu][intel][OSX10.8.4] and an iMac[10.8.4 again].
    Symptoms....
    1. On reset I found that Partition1 showed up in gray in DiskUtility, but not on the desktop.
    2. Partition2 shows up fine, on desktop and in DiskUtility.
    3. After a minute or so both partitions dissappear and I get my familiar 'you should have ejected' message.
All I want to do now is repair the permissions, verify the disk or delete Partition1...but because the drive keeps disappearing I'm a bit stuck. If I can just get the data from Partition2 before it all drops out then I can cope with binning the rest of the drive.
    I've tried....
    1. different equipment [cables, different macs (macbook and iMac), hubs and USB ports]
    2. using DiskArbitrator to allow the drive to stay connected
    3. using KeepDriveSpinning for the same reason
    4. smashing my head against a brick wall
    Please help....
    Thanks in advance,

It certainly may be. I do not trust Western digital external drives. I've have several of them fail and it was not the physical drive that failed it was the enclosure electronics. Once I removed the physical drive from the WD enclosure and connect it with a IDE/SATA to USB adapter the actual drives were fine and I'm still using all of them.
It also might be your Mac as these WD Passport drives are USB powered and Mac's are notorious for not putting out enough power on the USB ports to complete power up some of these type drives. There are numerous thread on how a warning will come up thjat the USB port has been disabled because something it drawing to much power from it. And that is with nothing at all connected to any of the USB ports.
Only way to test it to take the drive out of the WD enclosure and use one of those IDE/SATA to USB adapters and see if the same thing happens.
