WiFi light off
Hello,
The wireless light at the left bottom of the screen on my T400s (running Windows 8) just stopped working the other day. The bluetooth light next to it lights up but not the wifi light. It does not show any wifi access points either. The wired ethernet connection continues to work.
I checked the device manager and at first, it said driver needs to be updated for Ericsson F3507g minicard. I did that with the driver from Lenovo's site. Now, the device manager lists it as in working condition but the light still does not come on and I do not see the list of wifi access points.
Any idea what is going on? Do I need to get a new wireless card or is it a software issue?

Hi Sdr09,
Use the following steps to enable or disable Bluetooth or Wireless:
Press the Windows key + C, or swipe in from the right edge of the screen to open your Charms.
Select the Settings charm, and then click Change PC settings.
Select Wireless.
You can now change the Wireless or Bluetooth settings to On or Off.

I have a mid-2010 iMac and just purchased a 2TB TC, I just found out that it can't join existing wireless network with new AC standard so attached to iMac via ethernet with TC's wifi turned off. How do i access TC now? not showing up in disk utility or on desktop. It is working fine with TM. My cheeper seagate drives etc kept crashing, so i didnt trust cheeper back up options anymore. Connected those drives to TM via firewire and could see the drives and access them.
Also, I didn't want to bridge TC with my new fios router that I paid 100 dollars for, to get N speed and also paying 10 dollars more a month for fast speed. I heard that bridging slows down everything and then there can be port issues with mail etc. I connect to the internet via airport only and it is pretty fast. Getting over 50mbs downloads and over 30mbs uploads. Plus everything in my home it connected to my fios router, airport express for music streaming, two apple tvs, vuezone camer system. I really didn't want to monkey around too much with my system. But are there other options to connect the new TC. Can't find info anywhere for this and called apple who gave me the info above. after hanging up, i see that i cant access my TC and I am wondering if i would have to reset it to turn wifi on again to make changes to the drive, turn off blinking light or repair it in disk utility if it should become corrupted.
For other with similar issues i did solve some other problems: when i connected it to my ethernet port on my iMac wifi stopped working. Found that I had to turn off the ethernet in the system>network screen, but then TM didn't see the TC so i restarted after changes and then it saw it.
Now a rant. I can't believe in this wireless age that Apple would make a product that cant join a wireless net work. The apple rep said i could return it and look for the previous TC that would join an existing wireless network. Are we going backwards?

I was assuming airport in this statement in your first post meant the TC or the Express.. but I now realise we are still in the mass confusion stage where apple calls everything wireless an airport. So what you mean is the airport internal card of the computer??

I think this is mistaken.
Putting the TC in bridge mode plugged into your FIOS will not slow the network.. nor will it cause mail or port issues.. in bridge the TC is just a fancy WAP and switch plus the network hard drive.
If the computer is close it will be faster than the FIOS.
You can run both wireless networks with different names.. so it is clear which is which. But you can also setup roaming so the computers themselves pick which is the best wireless.
I tried extending the wireless net work and tried joining wireless network, but the TC kept crashing and I had to keep resetting the TC. the Apple support person said these, extend wireless network and joint wireless network, are no longer a connection option with the new TC because of the new AC protocol.

You cannot extend to a non-apple wireless router.
You cannot use join a wireless network because when you do the ethernet ports will be cut off.
But that has not changed.. I don't think Apple support is correct.. there has been no change with the AC model.. it is simply a fact that apple routers do not work in join wireless mode other than as a dumb client. The same applies to AC as to the earlier version.. but I have asked another person to check this.
Join in the express is the only apple router that still allows an ethernet connection.
For now you best use of the TC is bridged to the FIOS. Wireless you can sort out between several options. -
TimeCapsule freezing when working (transfer/iTunes) HDD, light off

My 1TB dual band TimeCapsule (December 2010 -> 15 days before guaranty expires !!) is freezing (still connected to WiFi but not possible to connect another device (even through wired connection), no internet, no TimeCapsule files, not seen in Airport Utility, light off) randomly when I use its HDDs "intensively", it means downloading podcasts in iTunes (library is on TimeCapsule) or moving big files between USB and/or internal HDD on TimeCapsule to my MacBook internal HDD through Wifi.

MTo know whether a song file is corrupt, find it in Windows, right-click the file and use Open With > iTunes. If the file is OK, it will add to the library and start playing. If iTunes thinks the file is not valid, it will "error silently," i.e. do nothing.
The other thing to note is that big Adds sometimes error in iTunes for no apparent reason. If the files are not corrupt, and they don't add in big batches, add them in smaller batches. -
WiFi turns off upon physical stimulus

I have an R400, model 7440DK5 that has served me very well over almost 3 years at this point. However over the last month or so it has been having a very peculiar problem: the wifi keeps turning off when the laptop receives some physical stimulus, for instance if I pick it up and move it to another table. The wifi doesn't return until I reboot the machine.
What is particularly puzzling about this is that the problem appears due to something physical, say jostling the laptop, but is resolved by restarting the system, which would suggest that it is a software/firmware issue.
My laptop is still under warranty so if no one can point me towards any ideas then I'll send it back. I was just wondering if this might be a common problem with a simple fix, although I searched the web and could not find much in the way of similar issues.
Some more details about the problem:
- When this happens it's as if the computer forgot it had a wifi adapter at all. All wifi related items disappear from device-manager and there is no longer an option to connect to a wireless network.
- The wifi light turns off
- Bluetooth remains functional as normal
- The laptop does not have to be on to be jostled; if it is asleep or in hibernation and I move it, it will likely resume without wifi.
- Sometimes restarting does not fix the problem. If this is the case usually what works is leaving it off (and stationary) for 5 or 10 minutes and when I turn it on again the wifi will be back on.
- Battery vs. charging seems to make no difference
Things I have tried:
- Updating the driver (tried both versions 13 and 14)
- Toggling the radios switch
- Not allowing the device to turn off to save power

Go to Solution.Hey, just wanted to update this thread with the outcome of my repair attempt. The first time I took out the adapter it worked well for about 3 days but then started acting up again, slowly at first but over the course of a couple days it was just as bad as it initially was. So I took it out again and this time snuggled some foam up against the adapter to try to keep it from moving around. This worked for about a month; unfortunately it has just recently been disconnecting again, only once or twice so far but I think the underlying problem has not been solved. Also my 'n' key just became fussy... therefore I guess I'll be sending the computer back anyway.
My only fear is that theyll do the same thing that I did (which did indeed fix it for a little while) and then send it back, only for the problem to return after a day or two

Wifi light doesn't blink when in use?

As best as I can tell the little green wifi light just remains solid green -- isn't it supposed to blink when there is wifi network activity? (as my previous X60 did)
I found the blinking useful -- is there something I need to do to turn that back on?I stand corrected! That post is about how to turn the blinking off, which most people find really annoying. But you can use the same info to turn it on if you want.
We had a lot of complaints about the blinking, which is why the default behavior changed sometime around T400. -

Did you mean the Adapter is greyed out and we cannot click to turn on it? Is there a wifi switch on your laptop? If so, please turn on it first.
Also please try the network troubleshooter to see if the issue can be fixed:
1) Right Click network icon in taskbar and select "open network and sharing center"
2) Highlight wifi connection then at top click "Diagnose this connection"
The troubleshooter will discover that the WiFi connection is turned off and offer a "Apply fix" option click that and windows will enable the wifi connection.
To make sure the driver for Network adapter is the right one, please go to manufacturer’s website to see if there is the one compatible with Windows 8.1.
If not, we can try to install the one applied to Windows 8 in compatible mode to see what’s going on.
Since such issue can be caused by driver bug, please also contact the manufacturer to see if they can provide more information about this issue.

Dear apple, I am really dissapointed with you. Around January 2013, my iPhone 4s 16GB White has hardware issues, which was the Wi-Fi grey out. The wifi grey out means that I can't access the wifi on/off button, and also it has no connection. I have put up with it for months, until june 7 when I decided it has been long enough, and I got a replacement. I told the genius bar what happened, and I already did the so called "steps" that apple reccommended on the site, which was reset network settings, restore iPhone. The genius bar gave me a replacement phone, so I was expecting that the problem would be over, but it isn't. It seems that it's iOS 6.1.3 which is the case of most public complaints on apple iPhone products. Not even 3 weeks after I got the phone replaced, it is doing it again, so I suspect I'm just going to get a replacement again? Unfortunately I only have until 5th of july 2013 until my 1 year warranty is up. After that, any issue I have, I have to purchase apple care. People are expecting this problem to be fixed but I don't see it being solved any time soon. This is horrible and really low, because I have been a good customer, when I talk to the people at the genius bar, I show the utmost respect I can to them for the work they put into their job, but somewhere there is a problem where something has gone wrong. Because of that, people that only have a one year warranty (which i received because I purchased my apple iPhone at an Optus outlet, once that one year warranty is up, I have to pay for a problem that isn't even my fault? That isn't how it should work, you should be fixing this problem so people can be happy customers and leave happy. Obviously you don't all know how to do your jobs, because if you did, we wouldn't have this problem. I would like a replacement phone, ONCE AGAIN. If this problem occurs again, I will simply stop buying your products, and lose faith in your company, your's sincerely, Jack Maher.

My iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and iPad 2 are running 6.1.3 with no such problem and the same with the overwhelming majority of iOS devices running 6.1.3. -

I have apple iPhone 4S upgraded to iOS 6.0.1 and everything was working fine suddenly my Wifi was not connecting and found the wifi on/off button is greyed out and to enable it I tried all resets but still my problem have not solved, still wifi is off
Same here.... No fix. Replacing is the option apparently and if you're out of warranty, you're SOL. That was as per the "Genius" at Apple.

When my wifi is off and I'm away from my home connection - it shows wifi off (unless I turn it on to check my email etc.) - and in the settings cellular it shows "voice only". Will I be able to receive and send texts in those settings? Or check voicemail. I had wanted to keep my email from coming in all the time and only want to check it periodically - so I turn ON my wifi when I want to check my email. But when my wifi was off away from home- I hadn't seemed to be getting my texts. So- do I need to keep wifi roaming connected when away from home to receive and send my texts in real time. (which is what I want) or am I still able to send and receive texts with my wifi off when I'm away from home. (When I'm home I am connected to my home data plan automatically through wifi and I get texts when I'm home - but I'm thinking I'm not getting texts in real time - is it because my wifi is off when I'm away from home? My cellular shows voice only when my wifi is off away from home. Am I doing it right to receive and send texts away from home? Or do I need to open up the wifi in order to receive and send text messages. I know that I would need to turn on wifi roaming - which will use data - for email checking or sending - as well as to use browsing apps and now I'm guessing to receive voice messages I may have missed? In order to send and receive SMS or MMS messages, you will need to have an active cellular data or Wi-Fi connection.
You will need these to send and receive iMessages:
An iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
iOS 5.0 or later
A cellular data connection or a Wi-Fi connection
A phone number or Apple ID registered with iMessage in Settings > Messages

I cant be positive but I think this started when my iPhone did an automatic software update. I couldn't get any WiFi connection because when I go to turn it back on the iPhone wont let me and Greys out my WiFi on/off button.
But also I think something happened to my iCloud connect as well because next to my iCloud Drive under "Settings" it has that spinning symbol that usually denotes waiting for something to finish downloading. But this time it never stopped! Its been spinning saying "iCloud is Upgrading" for 2 weeks now! I have tried the on/off iPhone restart or reset, and I've even put my iPhone into "Recovery Mode" as a last resort. but when iTunes was finished "Restoring" it, nothing had changed; Still Greyed out WiFi button and iCloud is still "Upgrading"! And this statement -

return true;returning the result TRUE again when both fields are null. If you see closely basically is not validating becoz it returning true whatever the input is.
I do not know what you want to use the second statement when you have else statement at the end. It will return false if one or both fields are null unless you want to validate either text field.

Portege Z930: Loss of Fn keys after Win 8 upgrade - cannot turn WiFi on/off
After many months biding my time I have just embarked upon upgrading my Portege Z930-11G to Windows 8 Pro.
Largely this has gone to plan with the exception that after running the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant I've lost the Fn key display and about half the keys no longer seem to function at all.
The only key I ever used routinely is the Fn+F8 option to turn WiFi on/off.
So now I cannot enable the WiFi on the machine.
There must, surely, be a mean to do this but I can't find it. Does anyone have a suggestion? I'm OK for now as I have a wired LAN in the house but once I get out on the road I'm going to struggle without WiFi.
Before running the upgrade assistant the Fn key brought the key display up across the top of the screen and I surely wish I'd turned WiFi on at that point.
The Fn key utility offers very little control of the Fn keys. It does not offer the ability to do anything other than disable five on screen notifications for keyboard backlight, power plan, touch pad, cursor overlay and numeric overlay.

First of all you can enable and disable the WiFi using function key but you can also enable the WLan in Windows 8 settings
Win key + C -> Settings -> Change PC settings -> Wireless
Now you can use the wireless devices slider to enable or disable the WLan.
But to get the FN key working you have to install the +Toshiba Function Key Utility+ for Win 8 and +Toshiba System Driver+ for Win 8 -

Can you take a screenshot of the pop-up notification?
To take a screenshot hold ⌘ Shift 4 to create a selection crosshair. Click and hold while you drag the crosshair over the area you wish to capture and then release the mouse button. You will hear a "camera shutter" sound. This will deposit a screenshot on your Desktop.
If you can't find it on your Desktop look in your Documents or Downloads folder.
If you want to attach a screenshot to a response here, click the "camera" icon above the text field:
This will display a dialog box which enables you to choose the screenshot file (remember it's on your Desktop) and click the Insert Image button.
⌘ Shift 4 and then pressing the space bar captures the window the cursor is on.

After My IPod Touch 4th Geneartion was broken I had to fix the screen, which cost me a lot, after a perfect restore through the ITunes I went to connect to my IPod to the WiFi network then the WiFi ON/OFF button Doen't Work, the IPod doesn't show the on/off button in the Settings-> General -> WiFi.
And another problem I encountered during this operation was that the Games I downloaded through the ITunes doesn't work, when I click on the icon ( Game Icon) it starts an then closes in a few secondsSee:

Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes

If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.
