WiFi N compatibility

I see on the web spec page that the iPhone is 803.11 b/g compatible. But I want to run my Airport Extreme in the higher "N" mode for the families Macbooks and my pro. Is Apple going to support the "N" mode protocol on the iPhones? I hope I will not have to be left behind with my current iPhone if Apple does (and I hope they will support it). If it is a hardware upgrade will it be offered to current owners in some fashion?

You're welcome.
I am a user just like yourself. I'm not a developer, nor do I have any ties to Apple.
Copied from this link - tech specs for the iPhone 3GS, under the Cellular and wireless section.
http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html
+UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz)+
+GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)+
+*Wi-Fi (802.11b/g)*+
+Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR+
The iPhone 3GS does not include an "n" compatible wireless card, and I'm not aware of any cell phones that do at the present time.
Since this is hardware related, you can't convert a b/g only compatible wireless card to an "n" compatible wireless card with a firmware update, and I think it is doubtful that Apple would offer a hardware upgrade for existing iPhones if/when an "n" compatible wireless card becomes available with a new iPhone model.

  • Ideacenter K410 wifi card compatability

I have just acquired a K410 as a gift and would like to add a wifi card. Is there a list of cards that are compatible with this configuration 57310567. It uses an Intel G645 2.9 MHz CPU and runs Windows 8.

    Hi again frnkiee,
Thank you for the quick reply!
To answer your first question, the Broadcom 4322 802.11 a/b/g/n WLAN module - 582564-001 is 1x1. For the second question, the only different between the two part numbers is a difference in regional compatibility for the adapters.
    I hope this helps!

  • Ac WiFi router compatibility.

    Hi.I have a MacBook Pro 17" 2009,
Processor 2,66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo,
    8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 RAM,
    storage 320 gb,
    OS X 10.9.5 (13F34) with an AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x8D) card, 802.11 a/b/g/n compatible.
I want to know if this card supports an AC WiFi connection from an AC66U Asus WiFi dual simoultaneous 2,4/5 ghz band router.
    Thanks

It should work fine. The only problem is setting up some of these routers requires using a web browser connection to the router's routing address, and some routers use non-standard webpage design. See these optional web browsers for the Mac I list, if you find Safari doesn't work to setup the router:

I found "D-Link <DI-524> AirPlus G Wireless Router (802.11b/g, 2.4GHz, 4UTP 10/100 Mbps, 1WAN)" in nearest to me store. Is it compatible with Mac OS and will work just fine?

  • Time Capsule & ATT Uverse 2Wire WiFi Router Compatibility

I recently made the switch from ATT DSL to ATT Uverse for my internet service. With Uverse comes a 2Wire wifi router. I was told Uverse would be faster. I haven't noticed faster connectivity to web pages, however some web sites now have some hang time before they load. They didn't with the DSL, that I noticed. Just for info my current download speed is 1427 kbps and upload is 942 kbps (speed test server 90 miles out).
To get the 2Wire to work with the TC, I placed the TC in bridge mode. Both devices are coupled with CAT5. Both iMac and iPod Touch use the TC network name to access the net. When I try to log directly into the 2Wire network name it won't allow it. States password is incorrect, but I meticulously enter the correct password. When I disconnect the CAT5, the 2Wire devise disappears as a network choice and the TC stops functioning too.
With the exception of the hang time on some websites & iTunes Store, everything is working (to include wifi printer & Time Machine back-ups). Is there a better way to pair up these to wifi devises?

    Hi Bob,
"Do you know what speeds you should be getting?"
I don't, however I do know I am not subscribed to the top tier of service. When I don't experience any hang time, the speed compares to the DSL I had prior.
"assume you have the green light."
Yes, the light is green and the hourly back-ups are performed.
"When the 2wire was originally set up by AT&T, did you use your iMac to enter the password, or was another computer used at the time?"
The iMac was used to enter the password (found on the side of the 2Wire device) and this was performed wirelessly. I then changed the password. When the tech left I was on-line with the 2Wire and the TC was blinking yellow. I called Apple Care and they helped me put the TC in bridge mode, and had me connect it to the 2Wire. During the process I needed to enter the 2Wire password. I kept getting an error message with the password I set and the default password. I then had to call ATT. While on hold I kept attempting to enter the new password and it actually accepted it. I finished pairing the wifi devises.
The WifiTrak app on my iPod shows the signal strength of the two devices. The 2Wire always has a stronger signal strength. My iMac & iPod use the TC network. If I manually choose the 2Wire, it never accepts the password. When I choose these two networks on my iPod in settings, the TC shows the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router, and DNS. These fields for the 2Wire are all blank.

  • WiFi Booster Compatability

I have a Motorola combo router/modem, and would like to get a WiFi Booster.
Will the airport express base station work with my Internet setup? If I have a second laptop that is Windows-based, will that get a better, uninterrupted wireless boost, as well?
Or, should I get the same brand (Motorola) of a booster, for better results?
    Thanks for any help.

Hey Chris, I was having the EXACT same disconnection problem you're having. After talking to a gazillion people, I finally got the right answer from a guy at work (He was an IT Private Consultant who played on my craps table..), and the funniest thing about it was how simple the answer was.  What is most likely causing your problem is the channel that you have the router set on. Most routers have a minimum of 11 channels to choose from and some channels, usually the default channel, are being used by most of the people who live around you and have a wireless setup like you. Go into your settings and set the channel at 11 and see how that goes. Then, if you're still having the same problem, systematically go down one channel every couple of days until you find the problem's fixed.
    I hope this helps :-)
Oh yeah, if you're using a laptop, make sure you stay out of the kitchen because microwaves play havoc on WIFI...
    Good Luck!!

  • Since updating my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1 I'm having compatibility issues with my speakers and my iTunes wifi sync isn't working. Anyone else having the same problems?

Since updating my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1 I'm having compatibility issues with my speakers / docking station and my iTunes wifi sync isn't working. Anyone else having the same problems? Both worked fine until the update...

Okay. I got it working again by setting it up as a new phone instead of just syncing. Then I backed up. All is good today.

  • BT Wifi woes : Bt Id and App Compatability

BT Wifi looks really appealing if I can make it work. I have two problems:
    1) The latest version of the BT Wifi app claims not to be compatible with my Android device, although a previous version did at least install. I tried deleting and reinstalling, so Google Play now tells me it is installed but not compatible, whereas the device thinks it is not installed at all. I can get a log-in page via a browser but then hit the second problem.
    2) Because I became a BT Broadband customer after 2013, I need a primary email id to log on. But because I was already a customer for other BT products before 2013, my BT Id is not an email address. I have created a BT email address, but I cannot log on with either my (non-email) BT ID or my (non-ID) BT email.
I don't expect a quick solution, but can anyone tell me whether BT know these problems exist? How do we request to get notified when they get fixed?
    Many thanks for any assistance.

When you became a broadband customer you should have been given a Primary Email Address and password.
It is these that you use to login to BT Wi-Fi.
I assume you have not been migrated to BT Mail.

  • Compatibility Spectralink wifi phones with WLC4402 and AP1020

Does anyone know if Spectralink wifi phones runs over a Cisco WLAN solution that includes a WLC 4402 and 1020 APs??
    Thanks in advance.

As long as the AP and the phone support 802.11b, you should be good. One note of caution though...some thought over which phone firmware and how the WLAN is laid out physically should be considered. Spectralink utilizes a "countdown timer" once a signal gets low enough to trigger this event. This may cause problems since the phone doesn't roam the way a laptop does based on signal alone. Picture being in an elevator where each floor has its own AP right outside the door where the signals are low enough on the AP side that you would expect the phone to pick up each AP as it passes from floor to floor. The timer doesn't go as fast as the elevator and this didn't really work out as planned. Lots of dropped calls etc...the main reason is we had to lock our datarates at 11mbps. I believe, although I never got to test it, that had we been allowed to lower the datarates the phones would have behaved.
Also the good battery life of the Spectralink phones is due in part to the sleep mode thing where after so much inactivity it goes to sleep to save the battery and every so many milliseconds it checks to see if it needs to wake up. You need to make sure there is always enough signal around for these things to occur and not miss any calls.
I would do some testing before I bought anything, but Spectralink works pretty much everywhere...

  • Unable to use the wifi since the last -Syyu

    Good morning,
About a week ago, I made my bi-mensual pacman -Syyu.
Last night, I finally reboot my laptop (due to an infinite loop, damn it). And here comes the christmas surprise : no more wifi!
I tried everything, but the wlp2s0 won't connect. I was able to connect the laptop to the internet using an rj45 and a reboot (I don't know why I have to reboot).
So here's a few commands, I'll be able to add more if you want after a few hours of sleep.

  • Why does my wifi work with my dell but not my new Imac?

    Hey,
I was wondering if ya'll could help me.  My wifi won't work as fast on my Imac.  It works on my dell laptop real fast but for some reason it goes super slow on my new Imac 21 inch.  Please help.
    -Thanks

Apple has released an update for recently released Mac systems that improves compatibility when using 5GHz Wi-Fi frequencies. The update is recommended for all "late 2012" Macs.
Mac Wi-Fi Update 1.0 can be downloaded from Apple's support site or through the Mac App Store on affected Macs.
About Mac Wi-Fi Update 1.0 This update is recommended for all late 2012 Mac systems. This update improves compatibility when using the 5GHz band in Wi-Fi. Boot ROM or SMC Version Information: To confirm the update has been applied, the CFBundleVersion string of the AirPortBrcm4311.kext will need to be checked. New driver delivered in update: AirPortBrcm4331.kext CFBundleVersion = 612.20.15

  • No WIFI after iOS 7 upgrade on iPhone 4s!

    Dear Apple et al,
Like scores of other Apple customers, since upgrading from iOS 6 to 7 on my iPhone 4s, I have completely lost WIFI capability and experienced slower GUI performance in general. I have explored all other options including consulting Apple's Genius Bar to no avail. I have tried to downgrade the iOS back to version 6 but Apple has made this impossible. This problem has forced me to rely soley on costly 3G for internet access. Please help!
    Sincerely,
    Jacob

I have since reset the firmware on my existing router after reading that there may be compatibility issues with newer iPhones/OSs and older routers .. I also checked router wireless and network settings against Apple recommended settings on http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199?viewlocale=en_US ..  So far, situation appears improved. Let's see if that persists.

  • New iPhone 5 will not connect to WiFi

I finally upgraded to a iPhone 5 from my old 3G and I cannot get it to connect ot my home WiFi.  It can see the WiFi and I have WEP encription on the network using a Netgear WGT624v3 wireless router and 128bit encryption and when I enter the password, the iPhone gives me an "incorrect Password" warning.  I have tried several times to enter it and even texted it to the phone and copied and pasted it to avoid any typos to no avail.  I have powered down the router, removed the encryption, tried another encryption key, rebooted the iPhone but cannot get it to connect.
This is a router with a 802.11 g and b protocol working on channel 11 and I have not had issue with our iPad 2, my wife's iPhone 3GS, my old iPhone 3G or our Macbook Pro.  I also tried to enter the network manually and it just does not want to accept the password whether it needs one or not.  What am I not doing correctly?  I say that there were some issues when people upgraded from an earlier operating system to the current one but this is a new phone as of yesterday??

OK, I'm in and here is the fix for any of you that have a Netgear router of the WGT624v3 variety:
Open the router interface by opening a browser window and in the address bar enter http://192.168.1.1
Log in to the router -- User name = admin and Password = password (unless you have set it up differently)
On the left hand sidebar near the bottom Web Support and Knowledge Base
Near the center of the screen click on Get More Downloads then be sure the model number carried over, you may need to readjust that back to the WGT624v3 because it does matter.
Under Firmware/Software at the bottom of the list WGT624v3 Firmware Version 2.0.21_1.0.1 (North America)
(this is a 3 version downgrade in the firmware but it works)
Click the Download button in the pop-up then Continue without registration
The zip file will download and you will need to extract the file wgt624v3_2_0_21_1_0_1_na.chk file to a  place you can find it later.
Go back into the router interface http://192.168.1.1 and log in as before if necessary
Under Mantenance click on Router Upgrade and then Locate and Select the Upgrade File from your Hard Drive: and then select the file in the folder you placed it. and then click on the Update button.
The router will take a few minutes to load and cycle but the iPhone will connect with any of the security protocols you are using in you other network devices,
I then made sure the modem did not ask me to check for updates so I don't screw it up again-- Yes, this is a downgrade of 3-4 versions and you would think newer is better but there is something about the new OSi that is not compatable, don't know if this is an Apple problem or a Netgear problem.
If you have a D-Link router, God help you but I'll bet there is a similar fix.  Newer is not always better,

  • Just got a new IPOD Touch and it wont connect to our Wifi home network with a Belken N Router. Our router uses WEP 64 bit security, but had a "blank" password field, which the IPOD did not like. Changing to a 6 char numeric PW didnt help either.

OS is whatever OS ships with current IPOD Touch
I cannot understand why the APPLE engineers have designed this product so that it has SO MANY WIFI problems.  This is supposed to be an easy-to-use product.  We've had no problems connecting our new laptop, our ROKU box, etc, but it seems impossible to get the IPOD touch to work.  NOTHING LIKE SPENDING XMAS MORNING DOING APPLE TECH SUPPORT TROUBLESHOOTING TO LEAVE YOU IN THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT!!!  Argh!
In fact, the only way we have been able to get this expensive brand new IPOD to work on our home network is to DISABLE SECURITY in the router settings.  THIS IS ANYTHING BUT A GOOD IDEA.
DON"T KNOW WHY BUT MANY OTHER USERS ARE REPORTING THE SAME KIND OF PROBLEM SO APPLE ENGINEERING NEEDS TO GET BUSY AND FIX THIS PROBLEM SO THAT NEW USERS CAN CONNECT TO THE INTERNET WITHOUT HAVING TO BE TRAINED ROUTER ENGINEERS TO DO IT!!!!
Ok, sorry for the rant, but surely those of you who are experiencing this share my frustration.  This is not why I bought an APPLE product.
IS THERE ANY POSSIBILITY THAT APPLE WILL NOT ALLOW A WIFI PASSWORD with more than one identical alphanumeric character?  Any ideas?  We also tried eliminating the 40 MHZ setting under Bandwidth settings in the router settings for our router, but it made no difference.  The router has the latest firmware, too.  Running out of ideas, and am ready to box this unit up and send it back!

Thanks, Bob!  You are correct.  And, we learned this as we spoke with APPLE TECH SUPPORT by phone on Christmas day (800-APL-CARE).  One of their reps spent the time to help us troubleshoot this, but the boiled down conclusion is your answer, and to repeat for the benefit of others, here is what worked:
    1. With our Belkin router set to "out-of-the-box" WEP 64 bit security, we could not get wireless access of any kind.  Only with the Security Mode set to DISABLED, could we gain access.
    2. Changing the router's security mode setting to "WPA/WPA-2...." and entering a new min. 8 char passphrase, and then entering that same passphrase into the IPOD Touch, and restarting the router, did the trick!
Based on this, and some info found in another posting, I can only conclude that the IPODs and IPHONES do not support WEP security mode in many generic routers used by thousands of consumers.  Hopefully, those same consumers can figure out how to change their wireless router setttings to WPA/WPA-2 security mode and ALSO get all their other wireless devices (PCs, laptops, WII boxes, ROKU boxes) all reconfigured to WPA mode, too.
I THINK THE BOTTOM LINE HERE IS THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE THAT APPLE NEEDS TO ADDRESS WITH WEP COMPATIBILITY and it may also be the case that MOST CONSUMERS ARE USING WEP 64 BIT security on their home wireless routers?
In any case, it's working now, so anyone who is having problems should try changing to WPA mode and post back here if it worked for them!
