I'm not an expert on this subject, but I noticed that my router (Netgear) needs to have the MAC addresses of all equipment before it will recognize it.
To do that, go to System Preferences -> Network -> Airport (turn it on if necessary), click on "Advanced" tab and you will find Airport's ID (MAC address), usually a series of numbers, e.g. 00:1f:00:3d:07.
Go to your router's website and add your iMac with its' MAC address.
Hopefully that'll take care of it.

  • WIFI & Phone Signal Fluctuation

Ever since my 2.0 update, the wifi & phone signal fluctuate randomly. Sometimes the bars are 5, then suddenly 0, wifi keeps disconnecting and asking for the wifi password again, is this an update issue?

    Matt Symons wrote:
With WIFI Turned on and 3G Turned off - Full Signal for most of the day!
3G Turned on - Signal lowers to 1 Bar in my area!
Is this because the phone is showing me the signal strength of 3G instead of the Phone signal itself?
Did you read my first post, or any of the others? I'm not sure what you mean by "Phone signal itself". 3G signal covers both voice and data, except when Wi-Fi is on. The signal strength (bars next to AT&T) is the strength of the cell network signal. If 3G is on and received, it is the 3G protocol. If 3G is off or not available, it is the Edge/GSM. If Wi-Fi is on, the phone doesn't show which one - only the Wi-Fi icon with its signal strength - when you turn Wi-Fi off, it will display which one.
Your phone dropped to 1 bar with 3G, because the 3G signal is weaker than Edge/GSM in your area. If you read the article I referred you to, you'll see that the number of bars isn't so important with 3G - for voice or data.

  • Yoga 3 pro - WIFI low signal

    On a brand new Yoga 3 PRO 1370 -
I am getting very low WIFI signal on all my routers.
Compared side by side : Think pad yoga and yoga 3 pro - the first one have full bars on signal , the 3 pro have only 1-2 bars and disconnect all the time.
Only when the laptop is very close to the router -  getting full signal bars.
Already removed and update the drivers twice . tried all configurations and power options - still very very low signal reception.
    Any ides ?

    XBrav,
Way to go, yes I do agree with XBrav wilkster. If you can check the screen shot that XBrav provided.

  • LaserJet Pro 200 Color M251nw : Cannot find its WiFi broadcast signal

I have a unique problem.  I have a PC which is connected to my router via ethernet cable.  I also have an iMac which is connected to the network wirelessly.  I have a LaserJet Pro 200 M251nw connected to my router via ethernet cable.
I was able to print from my iMac by selecting the printer network and printing, and then switching back to my router to access the internet.
I use VMWare on my iMac in order to use Wordperfect 12.  I was printing fine from Wordperfect until there was a power outage.
Nothing was damaged, but now I cannot get the WiFi broadcast from my printer any more.  I cannot print from my iMac, my iPad or anything.  I am confused as to the wireless direct printing and wireless printing.  I am trying to figure out how to get my printer to broadcast its WiFi signal.
I am no where near technically inclined and I cannot figure this out.  I  did try to restore the defaults on the printer, but with every forum I have visited, I am getting more and more confused.
Can someone help me resolve this issue.  If you need any further information, I will gladly provide.
I am in a desperate situation.  My work demands a printer, and right now I have no means of being able to deliver.

Welcome to the HP Forums DominoDiva,
I see by your post that you are unable to print over the network through the Ethernet connection.
I can help you with this issue.
Wireless Direct is to connect directly to the printer's network and be able to print.
Wifi is to connect over the wireless network. You can access the internet at the same time and still be able to print.
Since you are connecting the printer with a Ethernet cable to the router the Wifi is automatically turned off.
You can only use one or the other.
With the Ethernet cable still connected to the router, print a configuration page to see if the printer is getting a valid IP address from the router.
    Printing a Configuration Report.
    Select Method one.
If not, power cycle the router and try another port on the router.
If you have a valid IP address for the printer then try and access the Embedded Web Server for the printer. If it connects then the printer and the computer are connected.
Type the IP address into your web browser's address bar. (Safari)
Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.
Click Printers & Scanners, then click the + sign.
Select the printer from the list. (make sure the printer listed beside use: shows proper the printer name and not Airprint) Click on the add button. (you might have to click on the dropdown to select your printer)
    Test the printer.
If you are having network issues, then add the printer through the IP Protocal.
After clicking the + button, select the IP icon across the top, type in the printer's IP address, select jet direct below and then Apply.
Test the printer on Mac platform to verify it isn't the printer or a hardware issue.
Reinstall the printer in the VMWare if you are still having issues.
You might need to contact the VMWare manufacturer for any possible issues or assistance.
If you need further assistance, let me know.
    Have a nice day!

  • How to boost wifi extreme signal

My brother has a 2007 model Airport Extreme that I got for him back then.  He's updated the firmware last autumn - and when he's in the same room of his long single-story home the signal is excellent for things like SKYPE audio, but only fair for SKYPE video.
But if he hikes about 50 feet to his living room -- the connection drops out quickly.
What would be the best way to "boost" this signal without an ethernet cable?  Is there a solution whereby he can install another extreme or an express?  Would he install that in his living room?  Would there be problems getting the signal to the new "Express" (or other non-Apple product) - i.e. if he can't get his iPad to connect in the Living Room now, why would a wireless "Express" be able to connect any better is my concern.
He's not technical at all so I'm trying to study-up a bit here before recommending anything to him.
Thanks for any comments and possible configurations.
    Sunday 26 May 2013

You can use any repeater, but the AirPort Express is the easiest to configure. You just run the AipPort Utility to extend an existing network, connecting it to the AirPort Extreme.
The trickier part can be placement of the Express. What I do is take a laptop or smartphone and watch the bars of WiFi strength as you walk away from the area of good coverage. Once starts to dip, that's the area you want to plug the Express into the wall outlet. Here's a way to visualize it:
    ==========================================================
    |Good coverage|                 |Decent Coverage|                         |Bad coverage|
                                       |Airport Express Goes here|
    ==========================================================
Also you menioned that Skype Video calls were poor. That could be the internet connection. I would plug the cable/DSL modem from the AirPort Extreme and go directly into a desktop/laptop and run this test. http://www.speedtest.net
If that reads below 2mbps, then your internet speed is too low and you might have to bump up to the next level with your ISP (if available).

  • IPhone 3G WiFi Dropping, Signal Stength Still High, Extreme and DHCP?

I've been having problems with my iPhone 3G WiFi (I had the same with my First Gen iPhone too), where it lost the ability to connect to the Internet, although the WiFi connection was still active and showing full signal.
A reset of the Extreme and a various combination of resetting network settings / forgetting network / renewing DHCP Lease etc on the iPhone normally gets it going again, but not something you want to do every 30 minutes !
My Extreme is connected to a NetGear DG824M ADSL Wireless router, that I used before I had the Extreme (bought for a longer range and the 'n' spec so quicker wi-fi moving files around in the house, to Apple TV etc).
The NetGear's Wi-Fi is off, and the Extreme is working in Bridge Mode. I can get Internet connectivity with all devices with either the NetGear DHCP option on or off. I've tried tying DHCP addresses to the respective Mac addresses.
I've read elsewhere that the Extreme should be serving DHCP for the rid the iPhone of this issue, but cannot set this up. I must admit to being a bit confused over the basics here.
My ADSL Connection is with BT, and therefore I believe PPPoA (?) which requires a username / password.
Any help in setting this up, and indeed if this could even be the issue with the iPhone dropping much appreciated. I've searched every forum posting here on on each Mac site for months without any joy !
    Thanks

If the problem appears to be isolated to only your AirPort Extreme, in other words it doesn't happen while connected to other Wi-Fi networks, a "hard reset" is justified:
To "hard reset" an AirPort Base Station: make sure it's powered up, then gently press and hold its tiny reset button. Don't apply any more force than required to feel a tactile click. Keep it depressed for five to ten seconds, long enough for its LED to flash amber rapidly. Release the reset button. Then, the LED will glow amber steadily for about a minute. Then, it will flash amber, slowly, about once every second or two, waiting for you to configure it with AirPort Utility.

  • Unable to connect to home wifi if signal is 2bars or lower (iphone 5)

After updatin to ios 7 beta i ve been experiencing some problems with my phone, one of them was the wifi signal. I tried everything, downgrading upgrading to the official release, restoring etc... but anyways that issue still persists, i still cannot connect to my home network or any network if the signal is under 3bars. Any ideas how to fix this?
    Thank you in advance
    Cheers.

    Hello gilleskar,
Thanks for your question! It sounds like the Wi-Fi on your phone is unreliable at 2 or fewer strength. I know you have updated from the Beta version of iOS to the newest public released and the issue has persisted. Based on that troubleshooting I would recommend these steps from the article named:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1398
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and on. If your Wi-Fi setting is dimmed, follow these steps.
Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and cable or DSL modem are connected to power, turned on, and connected to the Internet. If not, refer to your network administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for assistance.
    Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
    Tap and Forget this Network.
Try to connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Note: You may need to enter your Wi-Fi password again if your network requires one.
Turn your Wi-Fi router off and on2. If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
Update your device to the latest version of software.
Update your Wi-Fi router to the latest firmware2. For AirPort Base Stations, install updates using the AirPort Utility.
There is also another section toward the bottom that I would try after this if you need to:
Wi-Fi disconnects or signal strength is less than expected
Move closer to the Wi-Fi router (access point).
Check for sources of potential interference.
Remove any case, stand, or other accessories from your iOS device and see if signal strength improves.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
    recently used Bluetooth accessories
    VPN and APN settings
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling

  • "Find my IPhone"  useless in No Wifi No Signal environment.

I found IPhone 5 got a new function, "Find my IPhone", but I always feel a little doubt about it.
Recently I travelled abroad to Honduras. Without communication service and no wifi, and also no international communication service due to high fees, I found the function is quite vulnerable in this situation. My friend's IPhone5 was robbed from hand in Honduras, and the thief escaped in no time, all of us have no way to do about that.
I thought of "Find my IPhone" function, but the place where accident happened is nearly no wifi and no signal where this function becomes useless. Also, suppose a situation that IPhone5 is closed by the thief, then we still cannot trace IPhone through this function.
Hopefully further improvement be added to this function, maybe.

i did not download anything just went in to settings> Mail,Contacts,Calenders> Add account> Mobileme > login with itunes ID.
i had to change my Itunes ID from a ID to my email address in itunes of this to work. i done this by going https://appleid.apple.com/en_US/signin and logged in and changed my Apple ID by clicking on the button that said "Apple ID and Primary Email Address"
this then made my apple ID "MY" email address that i used to sign up itunes with.
I am guessing apple are going to fix the issue where if u dont have an email user name at some point. but i will just change my user email ID back to my old ID when they fix this

  • 2010 11.6" MBA, connects to wifi, full signal strength, barely works

I'm staying in a hotel with unencrypted wifi. I know the wifi works fine because my iPhone connects to it and it's great--very snappy, great download speeds, etc.
My MacBook Air finds the wifi router instantly, connects to it without any problems, shows full signal strength, and works horribly.
Basically there's a huge delay when doing anything. Downloading the simplest web page or email takes anywhere from 5 seconds, to 60 seconds, to never. Looking at Activity Monitor, I am never able to download more than 10-20 kilobytes per second. I have moved the MacBook all around the hotel room, changed its screen angle, etc. in hopes of finding a better position for reception with no luck.
Meanwhile there's no delay doing anything with my iPhone in any position from anywhere in the room (connecting to the same router of course) and it is always able to download files at over 200 kilobytes per second.
I should also mention that the MacBook works fine with my router at home and in the hotel lobby.
Any idea what gives, and/or how to fix it? Much appreciated in advance!!

  • Wifi, excellent signal, no interference but intermittently drops, needs reboot

I have two desktops running on my home wifi system, one is an HP, the other a Dell.
The HP is nearest the router and has full signal strength bars, the Dell is further away and has half bars. I have used the inSSIDer wifi monitoring program to verify that I am using a wifi channel that doesn't have any other strong competing signals on it.  I have changed wifi channels anyway to see if the problem changes and it doesn't
The problem: From time to time, as often as once a day, the HP will lose wifi. If I wait a very long time (30 minutes or more) it will return by itself. Normally I reboot to get it back ASAP. It always returns with a reboot and, once rebooted I am good to go until the next day.
This wifi loss occurs only on the HP, the Dell has no trouble on the same network though it gets a much weaker signal. At one time, the HP was on the wifi alone (before I got the Dell) and it has had this problem all along.
Is there some wifi setting on the HP that might be causing this intermittancy? Is there some wifi setting that might regain the signal immediately without the need to reboot. Using "troubleshoot problems" (right click on the wifi icon) cannot regain the signal. Since it happens only about once a day (not at any particular time of day) I am living with it but it is irritating.

    Hi,
You can buy a replacement WIFI card on eBAY for under $10.  That might tell you something about the card's reliability and performance.
I suggest that you go back to the original HP driver.  If that doesn't change the issue then replace the WIFI card.
The HP part number that you posted, HP p/n 638403-001, is for the RT 5390 and not a 6390.  You should correct your information to avoid confusion.

  • I have a wifi strong signal but anytime i try to browse i will have a message telling me safari is not connected to the internet, what should i do to get connected to the internet.?

can momebody tell me what to do to get connected to the internet?i just got an Ipad2 16gb,i have a strong WIFI signal.two other computer working in the house.

If you have what appears to be a strong signal, but it reports no Internet, then your router is not giving your iPad a connection and the iPad is self assigning an IP which falsely reports a strong signal. Go to Settings/Wi-Fi and tap the arrow to the right of the LAN to which your iPad says that it is connected. If the IP is 169... then you are not getting an IP from your router. Try resetting the router, updating the firmware or restoring it to factory settings. Some older routers do not like newer machines.

  • Wifi problem: signal keeps going on and off and on and off.

For some reason the wifi indicator keeps changing from max strength to flat out no connection, max strength again, no connection, max strength, no connection... it keeps flipping back and forth. Not sure why this is happening because my other macs in the house (G5 and macbook pro) are showing a steady wifi signal.. so there is nothing wrong with my wifi router.
Any ideas how I can fix this?

    Some steps to try:
    1. Turn Airport off and back on, see if that stabilizes it. Or restart and see if it persists.
    2. Create a new location in System Prefs->Network, and see if it still happens.
    3. Unplug and replug your modem and router (let them sit for ten seconds) to reset them, just to be sure.
    4. Go to a wireless hotspot--local coffee shop or library or something--and see if it happens.
If after all that, you're still seeing the issue on multiple networks and multiple set-ups with your machine, then it may be your card and it's worth a call to AppleCare or a visit to the Genius Bar.
