Wifi network failing, but Chrome is fine!

Hi,
I've recently started to have terrible problems with my wifi network: i thought perhaps i was losing internet connectivity, but this is not the case.
All i can say is that periodically my internet apps lose connection, and then i will notice i've lost network connection.
Eventually, some of it is restored, but this time i noticed something interesting: I can use Chrome fine, I can now see my network, but apps such as Slack and Safari are totally failing to connect.
This is a brand new Macbook Pro with16GB Ram, a 521MB SSD, and the latest Yosemite OS (10.10.4 14C109)
From my perusing, i noticed that often a log is requested from EtreCheck, so I include one here in advance, taking whilst Chrome is working but Safari etc are not.
Thanks
-Mark

We are on holiday in Mexico. Our iPad2 has no problem connecting to the Internet through our hotel's subscription WiFi network. But, both of our macbookpros can not with the same password. What can we try?
We can join the network, but can not access the Internet. The password is correct. We have tried network assistant and diagnostics, restarting the laptops, re-joining the network. Our iPhone 4s also works all the time.
Same location. Signal strength is good.

Since I couldn't figure out a way to edit our original post, here's another potential clue.
Our laptops, when in System Preferences>Network, say "WiFi has the self-assigned IP address of XXXXXXXXX and will not be able to connect to the Internet".
Strangely, my six year old MBP running OS 10.6.8 accessed the Internet straight away, just by opening Safari to my home page. My wife's six month old MBP running OS 10.7.2 could not.

  • Wifi 'Network Failed' ??? IMac 10.7.5

    IMac 10.7.5
    HI,
My mac suddenly won't connect to the internet.  After selecting the network I would like to use and typing in the password I get the message that the 'Network Failed'?  Please Help!
The first time this happened all of the other computers in the house were kicked off the internet but they all connected just fine again after restarting the router.
My computer only connected after I turned the wifi off on the computer and back on again, however, the connection only lasted for about half an hour and this method hasn't worked again since and I am now completely unable to connect to the internet.  I have also tried re-starting the computer in safe mode.
    Please Help!

  • Safari tells me I am not connected to the internet, but Chrome works fine...

    Hi -
Today I logged in and went to load pages in both Chrome and Safari.
Chrome loaded fine, but Safari tells me I'm not connected to the internet.
The network preferences say I'm connected via Ethernet.

    Check the Firewall ..
Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall
If it's turned on, click the padlock icon then click Firewall Optios
If Safari is in the list, lick the double arrow on the right then select:  Allow incoming connections then click OK.

  • I have 2 Macs, connected to the same Wifi network. But sometimes, the shared computers does not appear on the left hand menu of the toolbar for me to access shared folders between the computers. Am I doing something wrong?

I recently bought a MacBook Air for work. Whilst at home, both my Macbooks are connected to the same Wifi network. Sometimes, the 2 Macbooks are connected and I can access the shared folders, which is great. However, every now and again, the connection seems to be lost. Is there something I need to set up so that every time both Macbooks are switched on and connected to my Wifi, it will automatically be linked?
    Any help is much appreciated!

I have found with AppleTV that it is the IPV6 on the computer you want to access is the problem.  The issue is that Homegroup on Win 7 or Win 8 requires IPV6 to work, but AppleTV won't work with IPV6.  (So maybe double check you have IPV6 turned off)
So you have to make a choice - Homegroup or AppleTV.... but you can't have both, until Apple brings ATV up to date. (crazy that it does not recognise IPV6 - c'mon Apple!)
You can set up sharing individually in Win 7 or 8 and have the ATV access files that way.
Having said that, there is always the exception.. I have an old HP home server running Win8 and it services ATV - but is part of the Homegroup... have no idea why it works on both, but no other machine on the home network will talk to both ATV and Homegroup at the same time!

  • Network fails but I'm typing on it right now..

When I boot up to Arch with an ethernet connection I get an error saying that network fails to start up.  But I'm typing on it right now with no major problems except that after a period of inactivity the network will fail to respond.  After that I can't get it to work without rebooting.
/etc/rc.d/network start fails with this message:

Ok, so it turns out the when you put network in your rc.conf it tries to get ALL network connections going.  This is a problem for me on my laptop since I move daily from house to office.  At the houes I use eth1 (wireless) and at the office I use eth0 (ethernet).
Is there some seamless way I can just have my network connection work no matter where I am?  Maybe ifplugd or something?

  • Time Capsule set up and wifi network OK but MacBook doesn't see capsule as airport device.  Do I need to do a hard reset and start again?

I recently bought a Time Capsule and sucessfully set it up in accordance with the instruction book.  The home network and guest network seem to work fine but my MacBook cannot find the Time Capsule wirelessley.
Initially I set up the time capsule connected to the MacBook with an ethernet cable.  The Time Machine got 30GB way through a 60GB initial back up and then stopped for no obvious reason.  Since then the capsule has not been visible to the MacBook.  I have tried to reconfigure through Airport Utility but even after reperated rescans the capsule remains invisible.
Any help would be extremely welcome.

    1. i would restore the express to factory defaut by holding the reset button on the unit with a paperclip while you are powering it on
    2. if it restored, you should be able to see it in your wifi icon at top of screen as "airport express"
or you can see it in airport utility
    3. then if you want to connect it wirelessly to your time capsule, you would choose "extend network" and put in relevant security and password....this would make the express a wireless access point, fed by your time capsule(main router)
if you chose to do it wired which is a better way if you have access to ethernet port at wall, you would choose "create a wireless network" and then under the "network" tab you would choose "Bridge Mode".....this would make the express a wired access point, fed by your time capsule(main router)

I tried exporting the enviroment variables from /etc/makepkg.conf, to no avail. I also tried adding the girara include files to CFLAGS, but it throws the same kind of error about some gtk dependency.

Does anyone have a clue on what could be wrong here?

In the PKGBUILD, they are cloning the repo by doing :
    _gitroot="git://pwmt.org/zathura.git"
    _gitname="zathura"
    git clone $_gitroot
    cd $_gitname && git checkout --track -b develop origin/develop

  • Wifi network available but Ipad stays 3g

I have two networks that belong to me. Both show up in my Ipad as being functional. However the Ipad2 stays in 3g mode and will not switch to wifi mode. My Iphone 4 has no problem with being wifi. Only my $600 door stop Ipad2 has this problem which is 1 of many.

And in addition to, My Ipad sees the Airport Extreme router but will not go online, And the cell signal is NO SIGNAL. This all happened after I cancelled data roaming which was putting my ipad in 3g mode and I had to pay extra for that. I have a solid signal wifi on the iPad and saw no reason to keep that data plan. So after I cancelled it I lost internet and cell ability. I have erased the ipad and restored it through a backup I had on iTunes. I stiil have the problems rendering this Ipad useless.

  • Wifi setup: wifi-menu fails but wpa_supplicant works

    Guys,
I've installed archlinux for the first time, and I'm mighty pleased. I've been following the installation guides, and have run into a slightly annoying issue.
When I try to setup my wifi(WPA) with "wifi-menu", I end up with "CONNECTION FAILED" error message. The steps I'm following are.
    # wifi-menu
         In ncurses
        1. choose the SSID
        2. Enter the password
        Result - CONNECTION FAILED
However, running wpa_supplicant command from commandline works well.
    # wpa_supplicant -B -i wlp3s0 -c <(wpa_passphrase "ssid" "password")
    .. works!
So, wifi drivers are properly loaded for sure. I believe that wifi-menu internally uses wpa_supplicant. Why would "wifi-menu" command fail? Ultimately I want to use netctl profiles to automatically enable the wifi rather than manually enabling wi-fi every time. Any ideas?

@luisgmarine, I have tried it with and without the single quotes -- no difference. Thanks for the idea though.
@progandy, Interesting. I'm not sure how to figure out if it's an issue with the router communication or not, though.
Anyway, thanks for the ideas and thoughts. I'll mark this as solved, because it is working; I was just curious to see if there was an apparent explanation.

  • Mac Partition fails but Bootcamp is fine

    Hello
I'm having an odd issue where my MacBook Pro's Bootcamp partition is running fine, but the Mac Parition is acting up.  I backed up the Mac side, booted into a Mavericks installation USB stick, wiped and formatted the Mac partition using Disk Utility, but can't seem to be able to install Mavericks still as it says the disk needs to be fixed (even though I just formatted it...)
Does this mean I need to re-format the whole disk, and not just the mac partition, to be able to do a clean install of Mavericks?
    Thanks

So you mean that if the faulty sectors are in fact there, it could be a hardware problem, but just localized to a certain part of the disk?
    Thanks!
