WiFi network security: How do I create a hidden SSID using Time Capsule?

Hello. I'm having a security issue on my wireless network. I recently noticed (via a Finder window under "Shared" on the left side of the window) someone squatting on our wifi network which is WPA encrypted and is based on a Time Capsule plus 2 Airport Express boxes for streaming music. I have an external network drive connected to the Time Capsule which houses all my iTunes music and movies. I have a feeling they are breaking in to steal from that rather than merely using our internet connection. I immediately changed the password. The next day I found them on our network again. I changed the password again. Immediately after changing the password and refreshing the Finder window, they showed up on our network yet again. I then changed the name of our SSID/wifi network and the password for a 3rd time. So far they haven't showed up and I'd like to keep it that way. We live in an apartment building and I fear that they won't see our old network name in the lists of networks and will realize that the new network name is us and then they will break in yet again.
1. is there anything else I can do to stop them?
2. is it a good idea/solution to hide our SSID and if so, how do I do that on the Time Capsule?
I can't seem to find any info on creating a hidden SSID on the discussion boards so any help is appreciated. Thank you!

If you have other devices on your network and have enabled file sharing on them, you will see an occasional device or two come and go. That is normal. Usually, you'll see something with some numbers. That's usually the last 6 digits of the MAC address of a device.
Any hacker who is smart enough to crack your network is not going to allow his identity or any trace of his computer to be displayed on your network.
If you are still convinced that someone is cracking your network, you can enable the "closed" network option, but there are plenty of free utilities on the Internet available that will reveal a "closed" network in seconds. Most 12 year old kids looking for free wireless know how to do this.
If you want to do this anyway, here is how:
Open AirPort Utility - click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the icons
Click the Wireless Options button
Enter a check mark next to "Create a closed network"
Click Done, then click Update and wait for the Time Capsule to restart

The "key" is probably totally useless to you, since it is 64 characters long and very few things will accept an item of this length.

you may be connected to the wireless network but the question is the internet working properly on the wireless network...
what i mean is that i can make a wireless network without the internet so i can save and share files and have other devices connected to the same network access them... but you have to make sure that your internet it running properly... may have to reconfigure the router is your using PPPOE or if it was working prior to your post then try to restart your modem... that usually resolves most issues.

Using Time Capsule to create a wifi network from a Powerline Adaptor

OK, before I ask my question, I just have to 'paint the picture'.
I live in a work residential complex, with wifi provided. However this wifi is awfully weak, to the point that I can only sit in one spot to receive it, and then it still drops out. I tried using an airport express to extend the signal, but the wifi router won't allow it.
Through the company that provide the service, I am know using a powerline adaptor ( you know the sort; one ethernet cable from router to adaptor, and another from adaptor in room to laptop) and I get broadband.
I'd like to find some way of getting wifi from that, to my mbp, iphone and appletv all on the same network.
Ok, the crux, I want to buy a Time Capsule, if I do so, by plugging the ethernet cable from powerline into it, will I be able to create a wifi network that 1. Allows devices to connect to it, and 2. Access the Broadband service.

Just go to the wireless network preferences and empty out all the stored wireless networks.. then scan and connect to the local wireless.
Select them and tap the - button below it.
Once they are emptied out.. it might be good to reboot the computer with the remember networks unchecked.
Start with a clean slate.

You can set the TC to join the campus wifi but I do not recommend that method. You make the TC available to everybody in the process.. and it will be super slow. All files to and from your TC, then go via the campus routers and wifi system.
You cannot have two independent wireless connections at the same time..
You can use ethernet to the TC.. this is fastest and best method.. keeps the TC totally isolated from the network.
Or you can use a USB wireless stick in the computer to join a second wireless network.. I recommend using 5ghz as it is much faster.

Thanks for the info. Since this is a cable modem, you will need to fully reset it so that it will associate correctly with the Time Capsule when it is reconnected.
I don't have the manual for your Ubee model handy, but most modems will reset if you power them down completely. That means pulling the power cord from the back of the device or unplugging from the wall. Leave the modem powered off at least 30 minutes...longer will not hurt a bit.
Next, perform a Factory Default Reset on the Time Capsule per this document:

After the modem has been powered down and Time Capsule has been reset, connect an Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port (circle icon) on the Time Capsule.
Power up the modem and let it run for 2-3 minutes by itself
Then power up the Time Capsule and let it run a minute or two
Next, open AirPort Utility and configure the Time Capsule to "Create a wireless network". Let us know what operating system you are using on your Mac or PC if you have additional questions or need more details on this.

One option would be to connect the Time Capsule (TC) to the ISP-provided wireless router by Ethernet. You can then configure the for a roaming network. Then, depending on what your goal is for the AirPort Express, you can either: 1) Add it to roaming network, 2) Configure the TC & the Express for an "extended" network, or 3) Configure the Express to "join" the roaming network for AirPlay.

They said I need to change my settings to NAT settings. I haven't been able to figure out or find anything. I have also spoken to Apple Support on the phone for hours without being able to figure out how to do this ( i don't think he knew much either lol.) I've seen reference to the "My iPhone" local storage put no mention on how you create this folder or access this folder within the Notes app. I realize storing information in a local storage like this provides no syncing between other iDevices but that is exactly what I'm looking for. If you go to Settings > Notes > Default Account you will see "On My iPhone" as the default account and the only choice if you have not enabled syncing Notes in Settings >iCloud or Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. If you have enabled syncing you can still select "On My iPhone" as the default account. When you are in the Notes app you won't see any accounts listed if you have not enabled syncing because they are all in the On My iPhone account and that is the only place possible. It is not a folder that you create.

Using time capsule to extend a network with security

I have a time capsule and my roommate and I use the same wireless network. I want to add my time capsule to the network we both share but want to be sure only I will be able to access data on my time capsule i.e. external hard drive, back ups etc. Is this possible?

The Time Capsule can only extend a network wirelessly if it connects to the wireless signal from another Apple router.
So, the first question here would be whether or not the existing wireless network there is being provided by another Apple router.
If yes, what model of router would this be?
If no, then the Time Capsule will need to connect to the existing wireless router using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection.
If you do it this way, you have the option to have the Time Capsule produce a separate wireless network, or you can turn off the wireless on the Time Capsule and use it only as a wired hard drive.
No matter how the Time Capsule is set up, you would want to set up a separate Disk Password for the Time Capsule, so only those users who had the password could access the Time Capsule hard drive.
