  • MacBook Pro 17" Mid 2010 wifi "no hardware installed" fix

    Hello,
Wanted to share my "wifi: no hardware installed" fix for my 17" mbp. Story is short - some time ago I noticed that sometimes after sleep there is no wifi. I'm carrying my laptop with me every day in backpack, so it just won't connect to any known network when I open it. Only reboot helped. I tried all available solutions with no luck - no matter what I do, I must reboot it every time I need wifi. Last month it stopped working completely. First, empty wifi icon, I can't turn it off or on. Finally, after reboot it said "no hardware installed". Quick googling points to dead wifi card. So, I opened laptop to see what card I have to order it online. Guess what happen, when I assembled it back? It worked! But only while it was on a table. As soon as I took it with me - it stoped working. So, I opened it again, re-seated cable from m/b to wifi card and that worked again, until next trip in backpack. So, it seems this cable becomes loose and disconnect after some vibrations. Then I put two small pieces of rubber tape (used to seal windows, very soft) on each side of cable. It's high enough to keep connector in its place when you close cover. See attached pictures. Be careful and don't put too much here - otherwise when you close cover it will damage m/b and wifi card.
So, if you're carrying your mbp all the time in backpack and wifi sudden disappear saying "no hardware installed" may be this fix will help. Note, this fix only for mbp mid 2010. I have no idea, what happen in other models. And if you're not sure - take it to service.

  • After updating to 10.8.1 i can not connect to wifi   no hardware installed , it says

When I installed the update to 10.8.1 there comes a message that there was a problem by installing.
Now i can not connect to a wifi network, when i click on the wifi at the bottom
    No hardware is installed
Why is there no hardware installed?
    Under 10.7 all was fine

I have MacBook unibody late 2008 with OS X Mountain Lion on board. Wifi stopped working suddenly and I spent about four terrible hours to solve a problem.
Actually, none of mentioned and googled advices helped me out to solve this issue with 'WiFi: No Hardware installed'.
Except one thing: using the wifi kext from the Snow Leopard. You may use utility and kext from here: http://rys.sommefeldt.com/2011/09/04/osx-lion-wifi.html
    I hope, this can help.

  • Got "wifi: no hardware installed" Problem

this problem had troubled me from 10.6 Snow Leopard to 10.7 Lion
    iMac 27" (late 2009)
    to be honest
my wifi (airport) can work just fine
    BUT
when I "restart" my iMac everytime when I needed (system upgrade or something)
and when I bak to the system
it shows "wifi: no hardware installed" on the upper right menubar
    CAN ONLY SOLVE THIS BY
choose "shutdown" , and dont even need to reset SMC or "cmd+option+P+R"
just "shutdown" the computer then press the power button
then the wifi will be back
    "Restart" >>>> NO WIFI
    "Shutdown" >>>WIFI back to normal

The Google DNS settings should be OK, humor me and change them to
    208.67.222.222
    AND
208.67.220.220  to see if there is any change. If there isn't go back to the Google settings.

  • Wifi: no hardware installed, after latest yosemite security update

I just applied Security Update 2015-002 (at the behest of Software Update), along with the Command Line Tools (OS X 10.10) v6.2 update, and after the mini rebooted, it now says Wifi:No Hardware installed. And when I go to Network and Hardware in System Preferences, it gives a preferences error. I have tried resetting the NVRAM and the SMC, to no avail. Anyone else have this issue?

In some cases, this issue is caused by a hardware fault. A loose connection, a short circuit, or a microscopic break in a solder joint may open and close depending on temperature, making the failure intermittent.
Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already taken. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Turn off Bluetooth. If you have a desktop Mac, you'll need a wired keyboard and mouse to take this step. Those are useful to have anyway, because Bluetooth is not completely reliable. If Wi-Fi works with Bluetooth turned off but not when you turn it back on, delete all pairings in the Bluetooth preference pane and recreate them. Restart the computer and test again.
2.. There are a few reports that the problem was solved by unchecking the box marked
              Wake for Wi-Fi network access
in the Power Adapter tab of the Energy Saver preference pane. I can't confirm.
    3. Reset the NVRAM.
    4. Reset the System Management Controller.
    5. Start up in Recovery mode. In the menu bar of the OS X Utilities screen, there's a Wi-Fi menu. Try to connect.
    6. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

  • WiFi: "no hardware installed" on Mac Mini, OS 10.8.5

I realize that there are many existing threads on this error message, but they all seem to be related to laptops with spesific affected hardware and not a Mac Mini. So:
I have just gotten my mid 2011 Mac Mini back from service. They replaced a fauly motherboard. It was in twice. The first time I got it back home I just had the time to upgrade the OS before it collapsed again. I took it back and they replaced the motherboard anew. The one they had put in apparently had problems.
Now after the second repair job the old problems are gone but there is no WiFi. "No hardware installed" it says.
My problem is that if I take it back and have it repaired a third time and it turns out that this lack of WiFi is caused by a bug in OS 10.8.5 and not by their repair work, I will have to pay for it. The hardware is under warranty but the OS upgrade I have done myself. The Mac didn't come with OS 10.5 when I bought it from them.
So how do I know if it is a hardware faul or not? I have booted in recovery mode but there is no hardware found there either. Tried various other tips like disabling Bluetooth, deleting the old WiFi setup from the network panel, resetting SMC and so on. (Resetting nvram does not help with network issues Apple say, so I don't know why that is adviced in so many threads).

So it went in for service and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I tried everything before handing it in and rebooted without things plugged in and so on. But now it works. No loose parts either apparently.
So there we are. Everything is working fine again by itself. For now.

  • HT202663 wifi no hardware installed

    wifi no hardware installed

So I got the dreaded WiFi not installed message today. Recently been getting WiFi problems on my MBP13"-1278model. Started with WiFi timeouts. Messing around with terminal, upgrading to mavericks and resetting pram got me back my WiFi but only within 5metres from router. Just bought a Bluetooth, isight and WiFi aerial part. While replacing I noticed my old WiFi aerial (see ifixit guides) were damaged evidently from opening and closing for 3 years. I successfully replaced part and now the aforementioned sentance of death! I think it unlikely I replugged connections in wrong areas- as connections were different lengths and it is easy to see where which one goes. Maybe I Buggered the WiFi/ motherboard by doing this? Any ideas? I'm prob going to have buy a new one 3 years of constant and faithful use-definitely longest lappie life I have had! But definite design flaw- very obvious when you change part how vulnerable cables are to long-term wear and tear near lid hinges....

  • Wifi: No Hardware Installed after 10.7.3 update?

I've got a MBP 3,1 which I just updated to 10.7.3 through Software Update with the hopes that the wifi updates would fix my waking from sleep issues. However, upon restarting when I click on the wifi icon it shows in grey text "Wi-Fi No hardware installed". Now I can't use wifi at all!
I've since tried downloading the combo updater and ran that and it didn't fix it.
I've also done the usual PRAM and PMU resets to no avail.
In my system profiler I see this under PCI Cards:
    pci168c,24:
      Type:          Other Network Controller
      Driver Installed:          No
      MSI:          No
      Bus:          PCI
      Slot:          PCI Slot 5
      Vendor ID:          0x168c
      Device ID:          0x0024
      Subsystem Vendor ID:          0x106b
      Subsystem ID:          0x0087
      Revision ID:          0x0001
      Link Width:          x1
      Link Speed:          2.5 GT/s
This looks like it would be my airport card, but it has no driver?
    Any ideas?

The wifi card is the original stock card, I have never replaced it. I have replaced my HDD and RAM though, but I doubt that would be an issue.

  • Mac apps won't open, very slow, wifi: no hardware installed.

Hi, I am extremely frustrated right now. I recently software updated, but I'm having major issues. The IT department at my university couldn't handle this one. Basically, my MacBook won't do anything right now. It starts fine, and I can still access files so right now I'm working on transferring all of them. When I try to open an app, it will just bounce forever and I'll have to force quit it. Also, when my wifi is clicked, it says there is no hardware installed in grey type. Ive tried repairing permissions and everything short of a wipe/install....to my knowledge. I'm so frustrated right now so I'd love some input! Thanks!

  • The wifi: No hardware installed issue is bad, I hv both my Mac Pro 13 and 15 inches affected. Can assist?

I have 2 Mac pro running on OS Lion and both faces airport down issues.

iTommy,  I have a MBP 15" new in February with the same problem.  It ran fine under Snow Leopard, which it came with.  I installed Lion and it worked fine for a few weeks.  It then wouldn't connect to any wifi.  I followed many forums and tried everything they suggested.  Deleted network settings, no change.  I deleted the wifi interface in a new location, no change.  Over the weekend I installed a new ssd drive in my laptop and installed the original Snow Leopard software that came with the computer and there was no wifi.  I installed Lion from the USB installer I bought from Apple to see if that did it, no.  Did the update to 10.7.1 with no wifi hardware still.  I deleted the Library/Preferences/Network folder to force the rebuild and it didn't work.  I just found this posting and this will be my next try.  Here is a link to the discussion...

All of a sudden I'm getting a message Wifi- no hardware installed

What hardware do you have installed?
All of it please.. and roles and function of each item.
ISP.. modem??.. main router?? .. AE of some sort?? ..
Have you reboot all of this and start up in correct order.. exactly as pictured above in exactly the sequence.. left to right. 2min between each.
If you installed Yosemite on your MBP .. welcome to the club.. networking is pathetic.
Reset the PRAM and whatever else.. wireless.. can be a total pain on Yosemite.

  • HT1338 After i upgrade my Macbook to OSX 10.9.1, it complaint that my "WiFi:No hardware installed", what could be the problem ? Appreciate your advise.

After I upgraded my MacBook to OSX 10.9.1, the wifi does not work only the ethernet port works.
I check the WiFI setting, it complain with error message as follows "Wi-Fi: No hardware Installed".
Pls advise what is wrong and how to resolve.
    Thanks

First thing I'd do is shutdown the machine fully (that means use 'Shutdown' not 'Restart' from the  menu), then power on.
If the problem persists, reinstall OS X from the recovery menu (power on, immediately hold down 'command-R' and choose 'Reinstall OS X' from the panel menu).
