Wifi no longer connects

OK this is driving me mad:
wifi works perfectly for a month or so from new. Then it breaks mid iplayer stream and that's it... no more connections; any attempt to connect to any wifi network results in the "Unable to join the network..."
Now, here's the things i've tried to repair this issue:
reset network settings
turned airplane mode on/off many times
turned wifi on/off many times
hard reset
hard reset + restore of iphone to original state
hard reset + restore of iphone to original state on a different computer
multiple reboots of two different routers
changes of various types of encryption, turning encryption off, changing channel number and network name
full reset of the iphone locally on the device to factory settings
The only thing that has showed a glimmer of possibility is that the iphone will connect to a computer to computer network created by a macbook pro no problem. Though, connecting it to a shared network from the same laptop also fails.
i've even tried bashing the iphone a bit. That didn't work either.
i have tried every possibly combination of reboot, reset, restore, on off on off, possible across multiple routers.
help.

Turn off your iPhone completely (hold sleep button until the power off slider shows up and turn off the phone)
Hold the sleep and home button simultaneously for 10 seconds or so and then release the sleep button while still holding in the home button. This will put your iPhone into recovery mode.
If you haven't already, download the older version of the firmware. Go to this website and download the firmware that is right for your iPhone. When you go to this site, make sure that you download the correct firmware for your 2g iPhone or 3g iPhone. http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750
Now connect your iPhone to your computer and open iTunes. iTunes will detect that your iphone is in recovery mode and tell you that you need to restore it. If you are using a Mac you need to hold down the option button and click restore, if you are using a Windows PC hold down the shift button and click restore. This will allow you to choose the firmware file you want to restore to. So when it asks to choose the firmware, browse to the firmware you downloaded from above and it should restore to that version of the firmware.
Let us know how this works for you. If this method doesn't work either, then I would say it is definitely a hardware problem, even though it already sounds like a hardware problem.

wifi no longer connecting after startup... so I have to connect manually... started after 10.7.3
    any ideas

Which computer are you experiencing this on?
There are several threads dealing with (mostly) iMacs + bluetooth keyboards/mice and issues with WiFi no longer automatically connecting. There seems to be some issue that 10.7.3 introduces with these series of macs.
No Apple provided solutions yet, but several workarounds: 1) attach a network cable direclty from modem/router to mac; 2) use the power button instead of mouse/keyboard to wake up mouse; 3) use USB keyboard/mouse (not personally confirmed); use airport extreme/express as a bridge.
Right now it's a waiting game until Apple provides another update. I do recommend going to Apple feeback: (http://www.apple.com/feedback/) and at least voicing your opinion. Calling AppleSupport will do the same, but they'll make you go through the same (likely useless) steps everyone else has done.
    Good luck!

  • Wifi no longer connects to internet

In OSX 6.8 I was able to use my AirPort setup to share my internet access with my ipod, but with the upgrade to Mavericks Airport has become WiFi and will not access my internet connection. I've gone through all the Assistance and online troubleshooting guides, to no avail. Any suggestions?

Same here, just trying to connect my phone.
The sad thing is that I've spent hours and hours with a guy from Apple the last few weeks, and hours doing backup, so that we could delete EVERYTHING, reinstall Snow Leopard, then Maverick, just to find out that the problem is Mavericks, and clearly not my computer. So all I've got so far is hours wasted and my iLife is gone, and I will have to spend hours and hours to transfer all my files back.
Nice guy from Apple, but if this has been an issue for months, they should have known about it, and have fixed it at this point.

  • IPhone 3G Wifi no longer connecting

Have had this iPhone 3G since Dec 1st, so very fairly new. Am running Version 2.2 and have verified that the phone is up to date.
So. The odd issue... Never had a problem connecting to wireless networks (secured or otherwise). Now suddenly I am not really connected. When looking in general settings, it says that I'm connected, however I am not using WiFi when browsing. Its all going thru Edge/3G.

Same thing happened to me today. Yesterday wifi ok, today the same as Nicole - I can see the network in Settings, it says it's connected, but doesn't use wifi.
if reseting the network settings in the iphone doesn't work then turn your modem and router off by unplugging both. first, on the phone make sure you select your wifi and hit the "forget this network". unplug both the modem and router and wait about 30 seconds and plug the modem in first, wait for all the lights to go on and then plug in the router (if your modem has a router built in then just unplug the modem, wait and plug it back in).
now try setting up the wifi again. from my experience if the internet goes down (even for a very brief moment) the iphone doesn't seem to be able to pick up a new IP address. all my other wifi devices can continue to pick up wifi except the iphone. once i reboot the modem and router the iphone is able to get back online.

  • WiFi no longer connecting to servers

Hi there - I got my ITouch yesterday and love it already. I have a wireless network with 2 computers and a wireless router - the ITouch connected faultlessly and I surfed happily all afternoon yesterday.
But I came to get emails and surf today, and I get:
"The connection to the server "imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com failed" " for email, and "Safari can't open the page because it can't find the server".
The ITouch still thinks it's connected to my network; I've got an IP address. I've tried renewing the lease and reseting the network settings to factory to let it find the network again. There are no error messages.
It can see my network as well as others in my vicinity (which I'm not allowed to connect to). The network is working with my 2 computers (Ireset it just to make sure).
I'm out of ideas - can anyone think of anything else I can do?

  • TV no longer connects to wireless internet after installation of Airport Time Capsule

TV no longer connects to wireless Wi-Fi internet after installation of AirPort Time Capsule.

I am having a similar problem with a new TIme Capsule. The wifi on the Time Capsule was working fine for months with all devices, iPhone 4s, iPad Air, iMac Air, Mac mini, and vizio smart TVs.  After a recent software update the Time capsule wifi no longer connects to the smart tvs or the iPhones. It still connects to the mac mini, iPad and iMac Air. I do NOT think the software update timing was just coincidental. But I have not found any information or other users confirming a similar problem on the Apple support site.

  • My iphone 4s and ipad 2 both with 7.0.4 update will no longer connect to wifi but non-mac lap top has no issues

my iphone 4s and ipad2 both with 7.0.4 update will no longer connect to wifi.
About three days ago the ability to connect came and went and the connection never lasted more than 10-15 minutes; it has not been able to connect since last night. I do not think it's my wifi router as non-mac lap top has no issues. I have seem many similar questions posted.

Reboot your router by removing all power from it for about 15 seconds. Also, if your router still has its default SSID (such as LINKSYS, DLINK, NETGEAR, etc) change the SSID to something unique. Note that all other devices on your network will have to be reconnected if you change the name, but if the name is still the default that is most likely your problem.
If the SSID is not the default then the reboot should fix it.

Since upgrading to 7.1.1 last week, I can no longer connect to WIFI on my iPhone 4S

No, it is not a known issue. It is a known non-issue. Try resetting your IMAP login ID and password. Both the incoming and outgoing. If that fails delete the account reboot the phone, and add it back.

  • My macbook air does not automatcially connect to wifi any longer when i turn on from sleep, how can i make it connect automatically again

My macbook air will no longer connect to my wifi automatically, I have changed the preferences to automatically selecr known networks but everytime i open the macbook air or after i restart the macbook, i will need to manually l select the wifi. How do I re-config to automatically connect to my wifi. Thanks

Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Make sure the network is on the preferred list by following these instructions. It's important to read the article carefully, as it's the starting point for any further efforts to solve the problem. If you skip any of the steps, the problem may not be solved. Make sure the box marked
Remember networks this computer has joined
    is checked.
    2. Follow the instructions in this support article under the heading
Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet
    3. Reset the PRAM.
    4. Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    5. From the Location menu at the top of the Network preference pane, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
    6. Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    7. Repair permissions on the startup volume.
    8. Turn off Bluetooth and test.
    9. Reset the System Management Controller.
    10. This step shouldn't be necessary, but has been advised by Apple Support in some cases, apparently as a workaround for a bug. Open the Energy Saver pane in System Preferences. If applicable, click the padlock icon in the lower left corner to unlock the settings. Enter your administrator login password when prompted.
Select the Power Adapter tab and uncheck the boxes marked
    Wake for Wi-Fi network access
    and
    Enable Power Nap...
if present. Then, if the computer is a MacBook, select the Battery tab and uncheck
    Enable Power Nap...
    11. Reinstall OS X.

  • My iPhone 4S will no longer connect to wifi. It is on os6. I've had it for 18 months

My iPhone 4S will no longer connect to wifi.  The wifi button is greyed out. It is using io6. Like this for a week . Is 18 months old. what is warranty time in Australia?

There is a one year limited hardware warranty with all iPhones.
You can check your warranty by going to supportprofile.apple.com.
Try to restore the iphone as new without restoring from a backup. If that doesn't work, you're going to need a repair.
And if it's out of warranty, you will have to pay for it.
