WiFi no longer working after software update

I have had my iPhone 3g for about 3 weeks. Everything worked fine at first. I was able to connect to my home wifi. After updating the iPhone software - I noticed I could no longer connect. The network shows up and I enter my password but I cannot join. I also noted this at 2 open wifi areas - whole foods and a friends house.
I have rebooted the modem, rebooted the phone, reset my network settings, and restored the entire iPhone. Nothing has worked. I spoke to Apple support and it sounds like they will send me a new phone...but I feel like this can probably be resolved with the phone i have, TIA!

Hi erik,
Does the iPhone have a Wi-Fi address? If not the issue and possible resolutions may be in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1559
Does the iPhone get an IP address after joining the Wi-Fi network?
Does the iPhone join and get a valid IP if wireless security is disabled?

  • Touch no longer works after software update

After downloading new software update, I got an error message during installation.  Troubleshooting information recommended a restore.  After doing a restore and using the most recent backup (which turns out to be my ONLY back-up) I am unable to change playlist with iTunes.  I am unable to manually add anything.  ANY suggestions?

  • Corporate e-mail no longer works after software update

I recently upgraded to GB and can no longer get my work e-mail through Corporate Sync.  "The device cannot be provisioned on this server."  My IT group has changed nothing on their end.  I've tried several freeware apps with no luck getting errors like "This server requires security features your phone does not support."  Up until the software update, my phone was fine and I'd been syncing for eight months using corporate sync.

  • IPhone 4 Volume no longer works after Software Update

    Hey Guys,
I just got a hand-me-down iPhone 4 and alas the Volume buttons, ringer switch is broken. I know it has since iOS 5.1 OTA Software Update and I was wondering if there was a fix? If so, please provide detailed instructions or a video. I do NOT want to jailbreak it since it would be tethered (iOS 6.0)
                        Thanks,

  • MPEG-2 files no longer working after Software update

Quicktime 7.5 has been installed for a year and played .mpg files just fine up until today. Now it gives a "this is not a video file" error. The MPEG StreamClip Application for converting files also magically stopped accepting MPG unless I fork over $20 for some MPEG-2 component! What the heck
Graphics card was upgraded from a 7300 to a 8800 yesterday and there were some Quicktime things in the Software Update which ran last night. Why would either of those eliminate my ability to view MPGs? Final Cut also quit functioning with those files.
    Need some help here fast!
    Thanks

Sure enough! Went back and put the DVD in. One of the first thing it auto-installed was the component. Cancelled out the rest of the install and good to go.
    thanks

  • Burner no longer working after software update 10.4.10

My burner on my iBook G4 was just working last week. I just updated to Mac OS X 10.4.10. Now when I put a CD in, OS X asks me if I want to ignore or open the CD with an application like normal. Then when I try to burn something to the CD, the CD-ROM drive tries to access the CD-R multiple times before it gives up when I eject it. It can still read CDs and DVDs, but just cannot burn CD-R's. I tried multiple blank CD-R's that I worked before. I also tried restarting and the startup diagnostic passes. Definitely seems like a software issue.

  • Many Apps no longer working after software update

I recently updated my iPhone software and since then many of my apps don't work. usually wat happens is that when i click on an app the screen will go black for a few seconds then go back to my home page.

Many applications aren't yet update for compatibility with the 3.0 software... that could be a part of the problem with some of your apps.
Suggest you try the following 2 steps. Do the first step and see if that fixes the problem If not, do the second.
Restart iPhone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.
Reset iPhone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Mozilla, like many other software companies, thoroughly test their software before releasing it to the public and I'm sure that no problem you are having is intentional.
I do not work for Mozilla but I do have experience of releasing software for public usage.
Firefox has no way of knowing what other software is already on your computer and with millions of combinations it isn't always possible to test for every scenario.
You can go back to the old version of Firefox but that won't always solve your problem.

  • Headphones no longer work after ios8 update to Iphone 5

My plug in head phones no longer work after updating to IOS8.  I thought it was the head phones and bought new ones - they don't work either.  I updated my iPad and both head phones work.  Phone is IPhone 5 - not due for an upgrade until December.  Any suggestions?

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Check also Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing. Make sure that the sound balance is not set all the way to "R".
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

md5 reborned hasher which has worked previously no longer works after update to FF version 20 . the redesigned download box doesn't give the option to use the hasher.

If you use this add-on a lot, you might want to switch back to the old style download manager until the add-on's author can bring it up to date. • IPhone remote app no longer working after iPhone update to version 4.2.1

I have 4 apple TV generation 3 devices. I have had these (and some older Apple TV 2 devices) for a number of years.
I have home sharing enabled on all the TV devices and use the iPhone remote app or the iPad remote app to control them.
After the update to version 4.2.1 my iPhone (and my wifes) can no longer see any of the apple TV devices and I get the message
"Turn on Home Sharing in iTunes on your computer or on Apple TV using the account $my account"
Home sharing is turned on on the iPhone devices (I have disabled it and re-enabled it and re-signed in to prove this as well as re-downloading the remote app direct from the app store)
Home sharing is enabled on all the Apple TV devices
I know this is working as the iPads can still see the Apple TV devices, but the iPhone 5s's both myself and my wife have cannot see them.
This has worked fine for years but after the 4.2.1 update the iPhone is unable to interact at all as if home sharing is not enabled.
I've one through the trouble shooting guides on the support pages but they don't do anything, and I didn't expect them to as I know home sharing is setup just fine as a.) it was working b.) the iPads are still working with the apple TV's
    Suggestions ?

    Update:
Issue is still occuring, after resetting wireless router.
Router: Netgear WNDR3400, SSID's turned off, WMM is enabled.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please refer to this official download portal as you proceed. It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
From a PC, you can install any compatible (e.g., for your exact BB Model Number) OS package to a BB via this procedure:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. After installing the OS package to your PC, please remeber to delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.
You may also want to investigate the use of BBSAK (bbsak.org) to perform the wipe it is capable of.
You may also want to try the "Bare Bones OS Reload Procedure" to attempt to narrow down the precise causal item:
Load your OS "bare bones"...if anything is optional, do not install it.
If the behavior presents immediately, then try a different OS with step 1
If the behavior does not immediately present, then run for as long as it takes for you to be sure that the behavior will not present.
Add one thing -- no matter how tempting, just one.
If the behavior does not present immediately, then again run for long enough to be sure it will not have the same problem
Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all things are loaded or the behavior presents
When the behavior presents, you know the culprit...the last thing you loaded.
If the behavior does not re-present, then you know that either step 1 or 2 cured it.
If the behavior presents no matter what, then you likely have a hardware level issue for which no amount of OS or software can cure.

  • Natd stopped working after Software Updates: Bogus VLAN injections?

Software Update installed three packages on the iMac today:
    Safari 3.1 Update (Universal)
    Security Update 2008-002 (Universal)
    AirPort Extreme Update 2008-001
This machine (running 10.4.11, fully updated now) is my connection-sharing gateway the internet for my wife's MacBook, a Linux box and a TiVo unit.
Comcast ==(ethernet)== public-IP iMac ==(wireless)== private IP MacBook, Linux, TiVo
I ran my usual firewall + Internet sharing script after the mandatory reboot.
The iMac's broadband connection worked fine for local programs (Safari, ssh) but none of the machines with private IP addresses on the LAN could see the outside world. The machines on the home LAN could see each other fine -- ping, ssh, etc. Time to start testing!
When I pinged an external machine from the Linux machine, the DNS lookup succeeded after a delay, but it seemed that no ICMP responses came back. Actually, packet tracing with Wireshark showed that the responses had come in with an extra four-byte header field I had not seen before: something called "802.1Q Virtual Lan" inserted between the Ethernet II header and the Internet Protocol header. Sample packet dump (slightly edited):
     No.:  20
     Time:  00:04:56.746703
     Source:  64.233.187.99
     Destination:  192.168.1.2
     Protocol:  ICMP
     Info:  Echo (ping) reply
Frame 20 (102 bytes on wire, 102 bytes captured)
     Ethernet II, Src: AppleCom_54:1b:30 (00:17:f2:54:1b:30), Dst: FirstInt_94:75:8f (00:40:ca:94:75:8f)
      *802.1Q Virtual LAN*
         *001. .... .... .... = Priority: 1*
         *...0 .... .... .... = CFI: 0*
         *.... 0000 0000 0000 = ID: 0*
         *Type: IP (0x0800)*
     Internet Protocol, Src: 64.233.187.99 (64.233.187.99), Dst: 192.168.1.2 (192.168.1.2)
     Internet Control Message Protocol
Looking further back in the trace, it turned out that the DNS delay had the same oddity. The Linux machine sent out a request to the primary DNS server, got back an immediate response with the extra "802.1Q" field, waited 5 seconds, sent out a DNS request to the secondary server, got an immediate normal response (without "802.1Q"), then immediately used the returned numeric address for the pings. It's as if the Linux machine ignored the packet with the extra, interposed header.
I traced HTTP traffic to google.com and saw a similar pattern:
    1. bogus 1st DNS response
    2. delay
    3. good second DNS response
    4. sent HTTP SYN packet
    5. got back HTTP SYN/ACK with extra "802.1Q" field
    6. multiple retries of steps 4 and 5.
I suspect that one or more of the software updates is inserting this VLAN stuff into NAT-ed packets over Airport. The receiving machines drop the packets because they expect the Ethernet II header to be followed by the IP header, not 802.1Q data.
An old discussion thread ([VOIP VLAN using 802.1q frames causing massive dropped packets|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=378673#1833386]) talked about a similar problem.
Here are the NAT-related commands from my firewall script:
      natd -u -dynamic -interface en0
/sbin/ipfw add divert natd all from not me to any via en0
      sysctl -w net.inet.ip.forwarding=1
Question: is there a known workaround to get the MacOSX network drivers not to insert 802.1Q VLAN headers?
    Thanks in advance!
    --GCL

    Hello faab:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
I am afraid to indicate that you probably will need to wait until you are back and have the software install DVD.
There is really no way to tell what happened. To fix it, however, you really need the DVDs.

  • HP OfficeJet 6500A fax no longer works after Mavericks update

After updating to Mavericks and installing the HP software drivers, the fax component no longer works.  I installed the fax part of the update, and when I print to fax, instead of triggering the machine to dial a number like it did in Mountain Lion, the printer prints out garbage text.  There's no relevant support page on HP's website about this issue.  Anyone got their HP fax to work via print to fax from their Mac?

    Hello Peter,
It sounds like you are not able to fax from your HP OfficeJet 6500A.  I recommend the following steps for the issue you described:
Follow these steps until the issue is addressed:
Make sure that the printer is powered on, has ink / toner, and that there are no alerts on the printer’s control panel. Note: If you cannot clear an alert on the printer's control panel, stop here and check the printer's documentation or contact the manufacturer for support.
Ensure the printer is properly connected to a USB port on the Mac or AirPort base station / Time Capsule. If the printer is a network-capable printer, make sure that it is properly connected to your home network.
Use Software Update to find and install the latest available updates. If an update is installed, see if the issue persists.
Open the Print & Scan pane or Print & Fax (Snow Leopard) pane in System Preferences.
Delete the affected printer, then add the printer again.
If the issue persists, try these additional steps:
Reset the printing system, then add the printer again.
If the issue still persists, reset the printing system again.  Download and install your printer's drivers. Then, add the printer again.
Contact the printer vendor or visit their website for further assistance.
    Additional Information
Note: If your printer is wireless-capable, you should first add the printer to your network. Use the printer's control panel, or temporarily connect the printer to your Mac via USB.  For more details, see this article.
