Wifi not always on when computer turned on

Every now and then when I turn on my late 2008 macbook the wifi doesn't show any bars, I try to turn wifi on but nothing happens so I restart my computer and everything works fine. It happens every 5-6 times I turn it on. Anyone know why?

Go to System Preferences>Accounts and then select your account, then startup items, remove Word from the list and reboot, you should be fine then.

Have you plugged the USB cable into the computer also as the brightness is controlled over USB. If this does not work, you would need the Apple Display Driver for the version of Windows that you are using. The display driver is part of BootCamp software that you may be able to find online

What OS X version are you using?
Can you take a screenshot of the pop-up notification?
To take a screenshot hold ⌘ Shift 4 to create a selection crosshair. Click and hold while you drag the crosshair over the area you wish to capture and then release the mouse button. You will hear a "camera shutter" sound. This will deposit a screenshot on your Desktop.
If you can't find it on your Desktop look in your Documents or Downloads folder.
If you want to attach a screenshot to a response here, click the "camera" icon above the text field:
This will display a dialog box which enables you to choose the screenshot file (remember it's on your Desktop) and click the Insert Image button.
⌘ Shift 4 and then pressing the space bar captures the window the cursor is on.
⌘ Shift 3 captures the entire screen.

Interlock trip button within a VI -- but doesnt trip when computer turns on/off

Hi All-
I want to trip an interlock (e.g. a reed relay or something like that) via a button-press within LabView. However, it is absolutely critical that the interlock is not tripped when the computer turns on or off. I have had problems with DIO and AO ports being 'unknown' during computer ON/OFF and so I am not sure how to proceed. Btw- I have a PXI-6229 card. Ideally I would like to trip up to four independent interlock systems. I was thinking of using the digital waveform generation capability of the 6229 and then a Freq-to-Volt IC. I would send a particular waveform of some frequency to the DIO port, and the F-V converter would actuate the interlock relay. Any other ideas?

If you are using DAQmx 7.4 or later, your m-series card supports programmable power-up states. If you go into MAX, right click the PXI-6229 and select properties, there will be a tab called "Power-up States." It is recommended though that you do not change these states often because the EEPROM has a limited number of read and writes. Have you tried this feature for your application?

How to resolve "not authorized" message when computer is authorized?

iTunes popped up a dialogue box saying most recent purchase cannot be played on my iMac because it is "not authorized".
When I authorize the computer I get a dialogue box saying this computer is already authorized.
After clicking on that box, the first one comes up again when I try to play the song.
I'm running iTunes 10.5.2 (11) and Lion.
How to escape the endless loop??

The HCM Review Budget Retro page level 2 scroll do not always refresh when scrolling thru level 1

When using the Review Budget Retro (Payroll for North America > Payroll Distribution > Commitment Accounting USA > Review Retro Distribution) page, scrolling thru level 1, level 2 does not always refresh. I am able to re-create this in our DMO environment. Has anyone else experienced this and resolved quickly on their own?

You should be able to get some more precise information from your Xorg logs, but I would bet it is related to the evdev driver. Some of the options in your xorg.conf no longer work with the latest version. For now you should be able to either map your mouse directly to the appropriate /dev/event* entry or change to the standard mouse driver, both of those methods should be in the wiki.
You are supposed to be able to use the evdev driver without the input section of your xorg.conf by using dbus/hal autodetection, but AFAIK at the moment the xorg-server package still isn't compiled with hal support, so you would have to patch and rebuild the package.

Printer settings menu does not always change when switching printers

I am running OS 10.3.9 and also seen this issue on a 10.4 machine. When switching from one printer to another the printer options drop down menu does not always transfer to the correct menu for the newly selected printer. It stays at the menu for the last used printer. I am using several different Sharp printers as well as some HP models. The applications being used are Office 10 Word and Power Point. If anyone has seen this and has a fix I would greatly appreciate it.

I don't have a solution but have also noticed that the printer in the menu is sort of like spinning the wheel of fortune.
Hopefully there is a solution but my guess is that it has something to do with a printer preference file that can get hijacked by different printers and applications.
I have noticed that a printer driver when installed will usually appear as the default printer even if it was not selected as such. I have also notice that different applications will do different things with different printers so I hope someone has a solution.

Mighty Mouse not automatically connecting when its turned on????

My MacBook bluetooth is discoverable but the mouse will not auto connect when turned on. The green light underneath is giving 2 intermittent flashes.

Try replacing the batteries.
And try deleting this file: com.apple.Bluetooth.plist /Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot.

What RAM do you've now including the timing and it's volt? Any ocing on your current rig? Please give's more details like what we have in our signature so others can help you!! What BIOS revision do you've? WHat brand and type of HDD do you've? SATAI, SATAII or PATA? How did you reset your Bios? HAve you tried to leave it for 10-30 mins make sure you've removed the power cord as well as power connector. GD luck.

IPhone 5C thinks it is still on Wifi at home even when modem turned off?

I have a strange one here. My wife and both recently obtained iPhone 5Cs. Generally we have had a good experience in using them but have noticed a little "quirk" at home. We are away from home all day at work, and as a matter of habit we always turn our modem off as we are going out the door. We figure it's just a good security practice to have, on top of already having a password for our home network. Anyway, my wife found herself at work the other day without her phone. She figured she laid it down on the kitchen table to attend to something else on the way out and forgot to pick it back up. She attempted to verify this by using the icloud "find my phone" feature and got a message that her phone was offline. I find this odd, as I thought the phone would automatically go to the LTE network when no wifi is available. It in fact does so everywhere else we are; at home is the only place we experience this. I have found this is the case with my phone as well. I have turned off the modem and found in the phone settings that it is showing it is still connected to our home network. However when I try to check e-mail, open Safari, etc -- I get message that my network is not available. I don't know if this is relevant, but our ISP is Comcast, and we have an old Motorola modem that they say is near obsolete but seems to still be working fine. I guess the good news is we have no problems with our home wife the way a lot of other posters do, but this is a curious situation that is kind of bothering me.
Any and all ideas or suggestions welcome.

You are a mite confused.
The iPhone unless the cellular data is fully off will revert to cellular even if on WiFi if the WiFi connection is not on.
You have a modem from Comcast, however do you have a wireless router? You see a modem that connects to the internet when turned off does not affect the broadcast connections to your phones if WiFi is on.
So the WiFi finds your devices however it has no access to internet services. If your wife and you have cellular turned off and you turn off the Comcast modem you have no cellular or broadband connection to anything.
In this case the Find my iPhone will show the device as off. Because there is no signal either on WiFi /modem and cellular.
