Wifi not connecting

Hi!
Can someone please help troubleshoot my problem?
My Macbook Pro lately has been connecting on and off to wifi. When plugged into an ethernet the internet works fine, however when using wifi I have moments when the connection is really slow or not working at all. It was working fine on wifi up until 2 days ago and I don't know what could have happened since then. The laptop is connected via router/modem through Verizon. I am using OS X Lion 10.7.4. All of the other devices connected to the network all work fine with the exception of my laptop. Can someone please help? I've already talked to an Apple tech support rep and he helped a great deal and got my internet to work but right after we got off the phone my problem returned.

Try to reset your router first before you think it's your MB.
Sometimes, not all the time, your laptop is getting interference from other wireless devices close by.

  • Wifi not connecting at start up.

    Hello,
On my Imac with OSX 10.7.5, everytime I switch it on the wifi does not connect. I open Network Preferences and it shows that a network has not been selected. I select mine and lock the preferences. The computer works fine until I switch it off. When I restart I have the same problem, I then go back into Network Preferences and it is unlocked and my network has not been selected again. Any ideas what has gone wrong?
    Thanks

    Hello TJ180,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Wi-Fi on your iMac.  I would be concerned about this too.
I recommend following the steps in the section labeled, "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly" in the following article to resolve an issue like the one you described:

  • HT201412 Can't get on FaceTime says wifi not connected but I can get mail, how?

Can't get FaceTime to work, my wifi says not connected but I can still get mail, how can this happen?

I was having the same problem. I've probably screwed things up royally by doing so, but I just went ahead and created another Apple ID with a different email address, and will inform anyone who I will be using FaceTime with to use the new one. I tried using the "multiple ID finder" thing but it only ever returned the ID I'm using right now; I can't verify the email address this ID is associated with for some reason.
    It's a clusterfark.

  • IOS6 on iPhone 4 - Wifi not connected to Internet

    Hello Forum friends
Since I have upgraded my iPhone 4 to IOS6 all is OK except for one thing:
    - one of my apps is using WiFi to control remotely items. My WiFi router is not connected to Internet.
All was working with IOS5 but not any more with IOS6 because now  a valid Internet connection seems mandatory to validate the selected WiFi channel.
How can I do to remove the Internet verification on my iPhone to be allowed to select a WLAN without Internet?
    Many thanks
    Jean

    Hello there Darria,
If I understand correctly it sounds like your phone makes a sound when you plug it in, but it doesn't appear in iTunes or Windows Explorer. I recommend the troubleshooting from the following article, named:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch not recognized in iTunes for Windows
Start with these steps, and use the rest of the article if you need it:
    Restart
Turn off your computer and your iOS device, then turn them on again.
    Update your computer
Check to make sure that you've installed all required updates for your computer.
    Update iTunes
Check that you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer.
Make sure your iOS device trusts your computer
If you connect your iOS device to your computer and see "If you have not connected your iOS device to this computer before, unlock the device and tap Trust," make sure that your device trusts the computer.
If you use Windows XP and you see the trust alert on your device repeatedly, make sure that you installed iTunes. Learn how to resolve a repeating trust alert when using Windows XP. You might need to reset the lockdown folder.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the best,

  • Wifi not connected to Lenovo laptop

My linksys new router is not connecting through Wifi. I am able to connect my iPhone and iPad. Please help. - Rick

@Rick What’s the model number of your router? It would also help if you’ll share with us the exact OS of your laptop or any error message that you’ve received. Make sure that you’re using the correct wireless settings of the router since it’s case-sensitive. Adjusting the router’s wireless channel is also a good move to avoid possible interference in your network. The recommended channels for the 2.4 GHz network are 1, 6, and 11 since they are considered non-overlapping channels. For the 5 GHz network, channels 36, 40, 44, and 48 are recommended.

  • Wifi not connecting properly?

My internet provider recently installed a new modem and ever since I am having problems connecting my MacBook Air to the new wifi network. it sometimes will not find the network at all, or it can take minutes to do so. This was never an issue on the old modem so i am wondering if there is a setting I need to change?
The network is working fine on my iMac and eventually, once connected, works fine on the Air, it just takes forever to find the network. anyone have any ideas?
    thanks!

    HI ..
Might be corrupted network preferences due to the new modem.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
Click Go then move all the files in the SystemConfiguration folder to the Trash.
Restart your Mac. See if that makes a difference.
Your Mac will generate a new SystemConfiguration folder for you.

  • IPhone 5 wifi not connecting unless extremely close to router...?

I've had my iPhone 5 for about 6 months. I've never experienced any problems at all with it.
Over the last week, I've had major wifi problems. My phone only connects to my home wifi if I'm sitting next to the router, like a 7 foot radius from it. The minute I walk out of the room, it drops first to a low wifi signal, then shows the loading circle next to the wifi symbol, and then goes to either 3G or LTE.
The thing is, even when it goes to LTE or 3G, the signal is at the lowest bar as if there's no service at all.... sometimes, I'll have absolutely none.
There are 8 Apple devices in my family and every single one of them works perfectly with my home wifi no matter where I am in the house or in friend's houses with other home wifis...except mine!
I've never had this problem until recently so I'm not sure what triggered it.
Went to Verizon and they basically told me I was mistaken because it was working on their wifi (of course), so although I explained the situation,  it was working while I was there, so they didn't believe me per say. They told me to call tech support if it kept happening and they did a soft reset on my phone. As soon as I got home, my wifi disappeared immediately and switched to low-service LTE.
I'm afraid if I go to the Apple store, it'll cost me to replace my phone OR they won't believe me or "fix" it, or they'll tell me some "easy fix" that actually doesn't work. Main problem is,  I'm SURE their wifi will work on my phone so they won't be able to see what I mean when I say it's not working.
I've read of others with this problem and I've tried putting it on airplane mode, turning off, turning on, turning off airplane mode and turning on wifi. I've reset it. I've changed some wifi settings and done other random things but everything just works for about 3 minutes and then it goes right back to square one.
    So... what should I do?
    Thanks in advance-
    Beth

Any luck finding the solution to this?  I cannot connect to my home wifi unless my Mac is already connected.  I don't get it.

  • IPhone 4 (7.1.2) - Wifi not connecting if distance to router is more than 2 meters

    Hi -
Please help me with solutions or suggestion with the wifi connecting problem I have with my iPhone 4.
Currently my iPhone 4 is on Version 7.1.2. Till last week, it worked really fine and used to connect to wifi router from around 20-30 meters distance also.
But suddenly it is not able to connect through with little distance over 2 meters. Not sure what went wrong. I tried Network reset also which did not helped.
To mention here, around 2 weeks back I had an issue with charger and it caused phone to heat to some extent. So I replaced the charger and everything is fine.
I tried freezing also which did not worked.
Currently wifi is working and showing up network only within 2 meters range.
Please help me with the solution
    Thanks

    Hi chloedaly,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It seems like your iPhone 4 isn't connecting to your home Wi-Fi network. You've tried many good troubleshooting steps, including resetting the router and iPhone, updating iOS, resetting network settings and checking settings.
If you haven't already, make sure that other devices can connect to your Wi-Fi network. Also, try connecting to Wi-Fi networks in other locations using your iPhone. These steps will help isolate the issue to your iPhone or your Wi-Fi network (or internet service provider), and can be found at this link:
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t connect to a Wi-Fi network - Apple Support
If you're connected to a Wi-Fi network but you can’t get online, try to use your Wi-Fi network on other devices. If you can’t get online using your other devices, there might be a service outage. Call your cable company or internet provider for help.
Try connecting to a Wi-Fi network in a different location. If your device can connect, you’ll need to get help with your Wi-Fi network. If it can’t connect to any Wi-Fi networks, contact Apple.
If other Apple devices have trouble connecting to your Wi-Fi network, you may want to take a look at the settings using this article as reference:
iOS and OS X: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points - Apple Support
If other devices can connect to your home Wi-Fi network, and your iPhone cannot connect to other networks, try backing up the data on your iPhone and restoring iOS to factory settings using the steps found here:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support

  • IPhone 5 wifi not connecting automatically/disconnecting

I have an iPhone 5 which I got I think last August, and it is fully updated in the software. For the past few days it has been refusing to connect automatically to both my home and school networks. Sometimes it won't even find the networks without airplane mode (not just wifi) being toggled on and off. If it does connect it will randomly disconnect very frequently. I originally thought it was just the wifi at my new place, since my room doesn't have amazing connection, but my laptop still will connect in the same place where my phone will not. It also never before had trouble connecting to my school wifi, which it does now. It's incredibly annoying and running up my data usage, so I would very much like to fix this. I've tried toggling wifi, airplane mode, turning the phone on and off, forgetting and rejoining the wireless networks, and completely resetting network settings.

I'm sorry to learn of the WiFi issues you are experiencing with your phone ehrhar! Let's reset network setting and test. http://vz.to/OPvlTr

  • Wifi not connected...

    Greetings,
I just got my iPad 32G. However, I had a hard getting it connected to my home Wifi router. My the other MacBook, MacBook Pro and Playstation 3 have problem connecting to it at all. The iPad is able to see my neighbors' Wifi routers, but not mine. It was almost more than 30mins, after resetting everything, I accidentally touch the safari icon. Almost immediately, it showed the internet content. I'm able to browse and do all internet and app stores activities without any problem. However, on setting page, it still shows no Wifi connection and still can't see my Wifi router. Strange.

    Ahoy Ipad Gang,
My findings are something in the software that is forgetting the the password for the wi-fi network. When the connection is lost it wants you to reenter the password or router wep even when it should have remembered it.
I used another wifi router plugged into from my bright house router. You Know from the output of the Bright house to the LAN of the dlink wifi. I had the dlink password protected for a week and it worked great. Strong signal on the ipad then nothing. It stopped working although it had chose the router the network settings were not all populated and didn't show connected.
So I reset the dlink router with the paper clip hole reset and left it open no security on the default and the ipad has never lost connection since. Not what I want but hopefully this will be addressed soon. I am taking my unit in for service to see if in-fact this is the problem.
Hope this leaves you with some insight.

  • Bootcamp 5 wifi not connecting

I'm in the process of a full-bore triple-boot (Mavericks, Win7, Ubuntu) reinstall, and I've run into a problem with Bootcamp 5's Wifi driver for Win7/64.  When I try to connect, it sees the WEP network in my house, but when I try to connect, I get a previously unseen sequence.  The first message says it's collecting data from the network, and the next one is a "Network Authentication" prompt for User name and password.  For the last couple of years (before the reinstall), I just got a simple WEP passphrase prompt.  So how do I get this working? I did get one "Driver installation failed" message, but when I clicked "for details" the message just disappeared.  All the other important drivers seem to be working just fine, it's just this odd wifi connection behavior that I've noticed and can't resolve.  The wifi works just fine under Mavericks.
Context: Macbook Pro, 15-inch, early 2011; Mavericks (10.9.4); Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.  Bootcamp 5.1.5621, downloaded today.

    And the answer is . . .
Not an Apple problem.  Windows 7 is very protective, not making it easy for me to connect to a WEP network.  But it can be coerced, and I coerced it.  Problem solved.
