WiFi on 10.7.1 Mac Pro late 2008

I have a mac pro that is a late 2008 model. I have installed 10.7.4 and 10.7.1 on seperate hard drives. However neither one seems to recognize the airport card. Is there an update I need or setting to change? Thanks.

On the old 11 Mbits/sec "original" Airport, aka 802.11b, there were 11 channels for data, and your Router could use any channel. For Single-band 54Mbits/sec 802.11g or 802.11n, there are now only three usable channels. Based on the old numbering system, these are channels 1, 6, and 11. Signal spills over into the adjacent two channels up and two channels down to fill the entire spectrum.
You can sometimes shoehorn your signal in by manually setting in-between channels, but results vary widely.
6 nearby Routers will eventually change channels until there are two on every useable channel, and that will fill the entire spectrum with competing stations, all trying to talk at about the same time.
A Dual-band Router (and dual-band Airport extreme card) can switch up to a different frequency band when things get crowded, and can operate on higher-numbered channels: 36, 40, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60, 64, 100, 104, 108, 112, 116, 120, 124, 128, 132, 136, 140, 149, 153, 157, 161, 165
This is what my report looks like, and I DO have an Apple Airport card installed:

  • Mac Pro Late 2008 1GB LAN Problem Yosemite

In work i have 20 Mac Pro Late 2008 and 5 Mac Pro Early 2013 all connected to server with 1GB LAN speed so all work on 1GB speed
All Mac Pro users connect to server folder for work
I found one **** of annoying problem
i did speed test using "LAN Speed Test" for writing and reading purpose on same folder they use in the server since users with Mac yosemite complains of slowness while they work
In the machines running OS X 10.8.5 i run LAN Speed Test and it gives writing 1GB and reading 1GB
In the machines running OS X 10.10.2 i run LAN Speed Test and it gives writing 100MB and reading 1GB
I was confused so i test on all machines with mac yosemite and they show all the same results
so i took my MacBook Pro Mid 2009 running OS X 10.10.2 and plugin the LAN cable from machines running OS X 10.8.5 (since they show 1GB for R/W) and run the test again ..... i was shocked that it gives me the same results 100MB writing and 1GB reading
Formatted my MacBook Pro to OS X 10.9.5 and it gave me same problem, then formatted to 10.8.5 and it gave me 1GB R/W
    Now im 1000% sure its OS X 10.10 & 10.9 problem
Is there any solution regards this problem since i googled without results?

I know the difference of MB/s and Mb/s heres the test for you

  • Mac Pro Late 2008 Slow Internet

    Hi,
I have a problem with my Mac Pro Late 2008, version 3.1.
I Have an High Speed internet connection 60mbps download and 10 mbps Upload.
I Have a Gigabit Routeur with a Gigabit Switch, and a proper cable setup made by a professional.
    So here's the problem.
My Mac Pro cannot not acheive to get the 60 mbps speed in any way. the max that i can get is 20 mbps.
    Here's what i tried :
With the same ethernet wire, i plug in 5 differents mac with different versions of OSX (2 Macbook Pro Retine, MacBook Pro 15", Mac Mini, MacBook Pro 13"), they all get the 60 MBPS speed.
With the same wire, i tried the 2 differents network plug on the mac pro.
All those test have been made with only this mac pro plugged into the Switch, so no other computer are using the Bandwidth. And the routeur reset to be sure it will give a new IP adress and forget all the other computer and devices.
I've tried different DNS on my mac pro, Google, OpenDNS (paid subscription), My internet provider.
I've reset the PRAM of my mac Pro
I've reset the SMS of my Mac Pro
    I've done the test with 10.5.x, 10.6.x, 10.7.x, 10.8.x and 10.9.x
    None of those procedure worked.
The only way that i finally get to have the 60MBPS is to plug the mac directly to the Cable Modem of my provider, without any routeur or switch, and you can understand, that's not a livable option.
So I don't what else to do, is anyone ad the same problem?
    Here's the Specs :
Nom du modèle :          Mac Pro
      Identifiant du modèle :          MacPro3,1
Nom du processeur :          Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Vitesse du processeur :          3 GHz

I'm using Speedtest.net to mesure my internet connection.
My local connection seem to run at gigabit speed. If i copy a very large file from my Mac pro to my MacMini Server, it take the same time as if i copy the same file from my macbook pro retina (wired connection of course, thunderbolt to ethernet adapater).
I don't really know how to mesure the Bandwidth, near changing the node.

  • Excessive Fan Noise in Mac Pro (Late 2008)

Starting in October of 2009, at about one year of age, my Mac Pro started cycling through periods of excessive fan noise: the fan goes from quiet/inaudible to so loud that I cannot hear talking on the radio in the room.
    Re-set the PRAM.
    Re-set the SMC.
Ran HW Test (Full test) and got the following: 4sns/1/40000000:tcbh -127.500
    Called Apple Support.
Re-ran Hardware Test showed no problem.
Did nothing more. Machine seemed fine.
In January of 2010, the problem returned.
Ran HW test (Full test) and got the following: 4sns/1/40000000:tcbh -127.500
Per instructions from Apple over the phone, I took the Mac Pro to a "Genius" at the local Apple Store "Genius Bar."
The "Genius" booted the Mac Pro on the store network (while I waited) and got the same error message. The "Genius" said he would order some parts and install them.
    Left machine.
Received call one day later from another "Genius." He said the first "Genius" was wrong. They've been running the machine continuously with no error message at all. (BTW, he treated me like an idiot, though he clearly didn't have all the facts in the store's own record about the machine. Typical 20-something IT kid.) After some argument, he agreed to run more tests. Received another call fro yet another "Genius" telling me the machine was OK.
    I picked up the machine.
The fans continue their behavior, BUT HW test (full test) now shows NO error.
At rope's end. Clearly Apple will be of no assistance, despite the warranty I paid for.
The machine cannot be used in the same room as I as I cannot talk on the phone, etc., with the fans running so loud, which they appear to do every 30 to 60 minutes.
    Any ideas?
    Some thoughts:
The problems started not long after installing 10.6. Coincidence?
I am not sure, but I think the fans go nuts whenever I use iTunes or Quicktime. I have not tested this and I could be wrong, but whenever I have those programs closed, the fans seem to settle down.
If no one has any ideas, I'm thinking of selling the machine and getting something else, as it is not useful "as is."

There are reports of the new MacPros having heat issues rendering audio (QuickTime/ iTunes).
Seems to be a hardware configuration issue not a software problem.

  • How can Mac Pro (late 2013) create a WiFi network for Mac Books to connect to internet?

I am moving my Mac-Pro (late 2013) to a garden office.  I have an ethernet cable to connect it to the house network.  I also have a Mac Book Air which will only connect to a network by WiFi.  I can use this Mac-Pro to create a WiFi network and the MacBook can talk to the Mac Pro over this WiFi network.  But the Mac Book does not see the local network let alone the Internet, both of which are seen on the Mac Pro.
Is there a way that I can connect the created WiFi network to one of the two Ethernet cards in the Mac Pro?
    Or what?
    Tim

    I have half cracked it.
For some reason the first step it to turn internet sharing off.
Then internet sharing can be configured and the wireless network set up and given a password.
Then, and then only, turn internet sharing back on and turn WiFi ON.  All this is on the Mac-Pro (late 2013).
Now the Mac Air sees the new network and can log on and connect to the WAN internet locations, at least via Safari.
BUT if I use Finder on the Air, it will connect to the Mac Pro but it will not display what is on its disc. Though I can do screen sharing.  Odd.
Also Air-Drop has stopped working, so there is no means of transferring files between the Pro and the Air.
I am going away now for a few days and will revisit this on my return.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Cannot connect from Mac Pro late 2013 to Macbook Pro

Cannot connect from Mac Pro late 2013 to Macbook Pro . I have tried via ethernet and wifi. I can connect from the MBP to the Mac Pro but not vice versa. I have tried to connect to other MBP's on the same network with no luck. I try and connect as a registered user, as I usually do, with no luck. When I enter the Username and then Password the box vibrates as if the details are incorrect, they are not however.
    Thanks in advance
    Jeff

It is 'just not working' again.
To answer you question. Other sharing services work. I can connect as a guest. I can share screens. I cannot air drop.
I cannot connect either way now i.e. from Mac Pro to MBP and vice versa.
I cannot connect to my wife MBP either. My wife cannot connect to my Mac Pro.
It neither works with wifi or ethernet cable.
I can connect to my Time Capsule directly and Time Machine backups are working.
    The passwords are 100% correct.
The Mac Pro is a late 2013. Does anyone else have a similar problem? I have never suffered this one before. Seriously effecting my workflow
    Thanks

  • Premiere Pro CC crashing on brand new Mac Pro (late 2013)

Such a big disappointment, yesterday our brand new Mac Pro (Late 2013) with OS X version 10.10.2 was installed and Premiere Pro CC is constantly crashing. One of the problems is that when I open a brand new project and before I add any content to a new sequence I just want to position the video track higher so I can see more audio tracks, the program crashed. I did it several times (new projects, new sequences) every time the same crashing program.
Deinstalled Premiere Pro and reinstalled it again, but no luck.
Tomorrow I created a whole new account with administrator rights on the Mac, the issue as described above was gone but at some point in time the program crashed again, and when I reopen the project, with two sequences open (one with footage and one empty) and I want to close the empty one, Premiere is crashing again. So I can't continue my work on this project and need to start over again....
This is the error report that I'm getting....
I hope somebody can help me on this because it's very frustrating...
    Thanks in advance

    Hello JashaCOLD,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your external hard drive.  I found an article with steps you can take when an external device is not being recognized.
I recommend following the steps in the section titled "Top troubleshooting tips" in the following article:

  • Can iMac 27 late 2009 enter TDM connected to a Mac Pro late 2013?

I'm trying to get an iMac 27 late 2009 to enter target display mode when connected to a Mac Pro late 2013.
I tried with Apple's Thunderbolt cable and pressing Command + F2 on the iMac did nothing.
So I bought a Mini DisplayPort cable, and now Command + F2 makes the iMac's screen turn black for a second and then back.
After rebooting, before logging in, if I press Command + F2 it actually works for about 2 seconds and then back to the iMac's screen. After this, if I keep trying it just flashes black.
So, my question is, has anyone managed to connect this two devices?
Should I buy another cable? Format the iMac? Any suggestions?
    Thanks for the help.
OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 on both machines.

    Thanks for your help.
I don't know what more I can add to the initial post.
The second Mini DisplayPort cable that I tried is Belkin, I don't think there are better cables for this, since Apple is not selling it anymore.
I did mentioned that if I restart the iMac, before logging in with any user, pressing command + F2 or simply connecting the cable will actually work, it shows up as a second display on the Mac Pro, I can move the mouse pointer on the iMac. But after about 2 seconds the iMac exits Target Display Mode, and after this pressing Command + F2 will only turn iMac's monitor black for about a second and not entering TDM anymore.
I even checked the firmware versions and both are up to date according to this.

  • 8 gigs in Mac Book Pro late 2008

I have read that the Mac Book Pro late 2008 can now handle 8 gigs of ram, if you have the latest Boom Rom Version (i have the exat on needed). I currently have 4 gigs. My question is, is this some type of HACK, or is 8 gigs really supported by Apple? Can I buy 8 gigs from the Apple Store and have them put it in?
I am really not into HACKS, but 8 gigs would be nice.
    THanks
    bob

+My question is, is this some type of HACK, or is 8 gigs really supported by Apple?+
    It really is supported.
+Can I buy 8 gigs from the Apple Store and have them put it in?+
Yes, but you'll be paying about four times the going rate. It's easy to install RAM yourself. Just be careful not to touch the gold contacts, or if you do, clean them with rubbing alcohol. Also take care not to cross-thread the screws that hold the bottom cover on when you put them back in.

  • USB Card Reader not recognized on new Mac Pro (late 2013)

My Sony USB multi-card reader (model: MRW62E), which I use for SD cards mostly, works on my MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), my new iMac, and my old Mac Pro (2009), via the USB ports, but is unrecognized entirely on my new Mac Pro (late 2013). All machines are running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2. Neither the card reader, nor the cards appear at all in FCP, image capture, apple system profiler, the desktop, or disk utility. I cannot find any drivers online addressing the issue, including Sony's website.
Perhaps an additional update for increased compatibility vis-a-vis the new Mac Pro would do the trick...

Does the reader show up under USB in System Report?
If the reader is working properly both the reader and an inserted card will show up.

  • Mac Pro (Late 2013), Photoshop CC stamp tools and Yosemite Problems

Lately when I'm using the the stamp tool in Photoshop CC after a few clicks I hear a short "click click" out of the Mac Pro Late 2013 when then goes on to freeze
my keyboard and basically makes it useless. I then have to save the photo by clicking in the menu bar, restart the computer which clears the problem. I'm using a Wacom Intuos Pro and thought it could the problem but I tried it also with a normal usb mouth clicking on an image and get the same results. What is this "click click" noise because as soon as I hear that I know that the Mac Pro is going to freeze.........anyone else having any Photoshop problems?

I've not tried exporting with Premiere but with After Effects on my identical Mac Pro also using istat menus, I rarely if ever see the 2nd GPU spin up. I'm exporting right now for example and:
makes me wonder if this is infact an issue with Istat menus or if the 2nd gpu really isnt being utilized.
