Wifi on/off switch not working

when trying to turn on wif the on/off switch doesn't work. Has anyone ever seen this before?

I assume that you are talking about the WiFi button in Settings>WiFi.
Close the settings app in the recents tray and reboot your iPad and see if the button returns to normal after that.
From your home screen - not while you are in the settings app - double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on the settings app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

    Hi,
My iphone5 on/off switch not working, even we not able to reset the phone

OK, so are you asking what do to, or are you just sharing your situation?
If you're asking what to do, then you should bring your phone to Apple while it's still under warranty.

  • Has anybody experienced the iPhone off switch not working all the time.

I have an iPhone 5, it's about 16 months old and it has experienced an annoying issue.  The off button does not work all the time, sometimes I have to press it multiple times and other times it just works.  The worst case is when it does not work at all, very frustrating.  I didn't expect this type of issue for a phone that is not even a year and a half old.
I did some searching on the internet and there are 2 schools of thought, the first is that this is a hardware fault and Apple know about it but won't admit it because it would cost them too much to repair/replace phones with the issue.  The second school of thought is that it is a software issue and a backup/reset/restore will fix it; I tried doing this but it did not resolve the issue.
Further digging seemed to suggest that it was really a hardware fault and the only option was to get a refurb from Apple for a ton of money, not cool.
Anyway, if anyone has any more information that could help me resolve this issue I would greatly appreciate it.

@diesel vdub, thanks for your suggestion, I setup an appointment with the Genius Bar and found out in about 5 minutes that everything I have read up on so far is true.
Firstly the technician admitted that there is a sporadic fault on the iPhone 4s and iPhone 5 switches, something to do with the design of the switch that included a rubber element that rolls up (whatever that means) and causes the switch to fail. He then indicated that the iPhone 5s does not have the issue because the switch has been completely redesigned.
Since I was stupid enough to not take out the extended warranty the only options he gave me were to purchase a new phone or to get a refurb for $269, not cool. Why would anyone think that a phone would not work correctly for 2 whole years when the phone only cost about $600!
Since I have about 7-8 months left on my phone contract I am not prepared to pay for either option.  I find it amazing that a phone can develop this type of issue in such a short time and then expect the customer to pay for their failures.  Apple supposedly sells a very high quality product for a very high price, looks like they have taken a step back from this philosophy.
I am disappointed in the options that he gave me (I don't blame the technician) but I suppose I expected more from Apple in terms of quality and service.

  • On/off switch not working on iPhone - what is the problem?

Ok the problem is, sometimes when I press and hold the on/off button, for more than 10secs in these cases, the phone does not give me the slider to turn it off. Similarly, sometimes when it is off, the phone does not switch on when I press it.
Sometimes when I press and hold the button, I know there is a response because the phone comes out of standby. However it does not seem to "shutdown".
Question is, is this a hardware or software problem, and is there any way I can solve this?

  • Hi the wifi when make update not works good

    hi
the wifi when make update not working good
now i cannot turn on wifi the wifi button
can you help me please ????

    Hello Riham123,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like the wifi button is grayed out and you are unable to toggle it.
I recommend trying the steps in this article:
iOS: Wi-Fi settings grayed out or dim
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1559
Verify that airplane mode is off by tapping Settings > Airplane Mode.
Reset the network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings, including Bluetooth pairing records, Wi-Fi passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
Ensure that your device is using the latest software. To do so, connect your device to your computer and check for updates in iTunes.
If your issue is still unresolved, perform a software restore in iTunes.
    All the best,
    Sterling

My 1-year ipod nano locked up and would not start overnight. The on/off button will not work and stopped holding charge. No water damage, no fall, nothing unusual. I restored it (twice) but it will still not hold charge and on/off does not work. I tried to restore it again and charged it in three different locations with different cables. etc but nothing. Suggestions?

    - After charging for 1/2 hour or so, does iTunes see the iPod?  If yes, restore the iPod from backup.
    - If no, se if placing the iPod in recovery mode will make it visible so you can restore the iPod.  For recovery mode see:

  • Where can i exchange my not working iphone bought in Switzerland (on july 12, 2012.) that just turned off and not working since. In croatian store they don't want to give me replacement phone!!!!

I have bought iphone 4s on July 12, 2012.in Zurich in offical Apple store (Glattzentrum) and after one and a half months it just turned off and not working since. I tried three charges and nothing (it detects that charger is on but it cannot be charged). So now I have a not working phone only two and something months after purchase. But the problem is that in Croatia we have two apple reseller stores and neither don't want to exchange it, although is under warranty!!!! The closest stores are 250 km from Zagreb...Of course I have contacted Apple store in Zurich but they told me to come in Switzerland or to send credit card data for receiving new iphone, the problem is I don't have credit card with 700 euro on it!!!! what to do?? who to call ??? where to get replacment device cause this is disaster???? I wanted to buy ipad but after all this I doubt to do so...I have not working Iphone payed around 700 chf or 800 usd and cannot change it in my country, is it possible for such vast organization like apple that this things can occur????? So much for customer support

“the EU is considered one country for warranty purposes“
Not the case at all whilst there are harmonized minimum standards governing guarantees, warrantees remain national as these vary (Add to) minimum legal protection.

i have problem with my iphone 5 lock switch..as lock switch not working properly..and my iphone is not in warrenty.. so plz tell me what i do...

The iPhone 5 is less than a year old, so all of them should still be in warranty unless they have been jailbroken or physically damaged. If you have a hardware problem as you describe the only option is to get the phone replaced by Apple or repaired by a non-authorized shop. The Apple replacement will be free at any Apple store in the country where the phone was purchased. If Apple determines that the phone was physically damaged or jailbroken it will cost $229.

  • HT5587 Power button to turn off phone not working.... Help!

Power bottom to turn iPhone off does not work.  Screen will turn off after a bit of no activity, but power off function when pressing does not work.  Any ideas for repair?  Thank you.

Assuming your warranty has expired you can make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and do an out-of-warranty replacement for $149. Or use Google and find a local 3rd party repair site.

It appears that you may not have a properly installed OS X system.
You must be connected to the Internet to reinstall OS X.
In the menu bar, choose Apple menu > Restart. Once your Mac restarts (and the gray screen appears), hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys.
Select “Disk Utility,” and then click Continue.
Select your startup disk from the list on the left, and then Repair Disk.
After disk is repaired, select Reinstall OS X, then click Continue.
Follow the onscreen instructions. In the pane where you select a disk, select your current OS X disk
