Wifi Password Issues

My new Touch will connect to the guest network on my Extreme Base Station OK but refuses to connect to the private network - it "sees" the network but just won't accept the password (which I've checked and rechecked). The guest network is a lot weaker than the private and there are parts of the house where it dies out but the private network is still visible on the Touch, so I would really like to connect the Touch to the private network. I've tried resetting the Base Station and the Touch.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

I get this problem too.
Work WEP network with multiple access points. 13 character key. Recurrent 'incorrect password' prompts, although password is entered correctly. Reset all network settings cures the problem for a day. Then go home and connect to WPA network without a problem. Return to work, and can't join network. Re-entering password doesn't work. Repeatedly cancelling password box sometimes allows automatic reconnection at another access point later in the day.
Very frustrating.

Hi, I updated to iOS 6.0.2 and my iphone 5 had troubles connecting to the home wifi. So I reset network and now it won't accept the password. I have done the same to the old iphone 3G (reset network) and used same password and it was accepted, though it says it is upto date with iOS6.0.1. Any ideas??? Cheers :-)

  • WIFI Password Issue

Hey guys, this is probably a question with a really simple answer but when i try to connect to WIFI on my iphone it requires a password. Does anyone know how to get this from the original computer the connection exists from??
    cheers

The password is set during the setup of the network. Your ISP won't have access to it either. Unfortunately, if you can't retrieve the password, you'll need to reset your router and then set up the network fresh. You should be able to find instructions for that on the manufacturer's website for the router.

  • Forgotten Wifi Password

I have a time capsule (vers 7.7.3) that I have now returned twice.  The first time I returned it was because it kept forgetting it's wifi password and had to be rebooted every day to get it to remember it.  It was replaced by a time capsule that worked great in terms of wifi but after a couple of backups to it the hard drive failed.  So I'm on the third time capsule now and back to the wifi password issue.  Sometimes when it forgets it's 2.4 GHz password you can still get a connection on the 5GHz channel long enough to connect to airport utility to tell the time capsule to restart.  Once restarted it will hold it's password for almost an entire day.  I've seen others in other forums that have had same/similar problems but I've not seen any solutions offered up.  My setup is fairly straight forward.  I have an older timecapsule that is working fine except that it's signal is not strong enough to reach the second floor of our house.  I have the newer time capsule (the problematic one) located upstairs and configured with a very simple name and totally numeric wifi password.  I am using a static IP address.  I am creating a wireless network using WPA/WPAw Personal secuity and have tried assigning channels and using automatic both.  I have a unique name for the 5GHz network.  I am running in Bridge Mode and IPv6 is configured link local only.  I am at my wits end with this.  Any one else having similar issues or know of any solution?  Jane

You have done all the things I can think of.
I doubt the TC has forgotten the password.. as a reboot would not then fix it.
The failure is something more important.
I do not like using wpa/wpa2 password.. use WPA2 Personal only. That is the only reliable way.
Test with no password at all if you cannot get it working with WPA2 only.
Did you do a full factory reset before you made all these changes??
I have another setup you can try that might help.
That is to use the TC in static IP mode not bridge.
    This might help things.
I described the method here. Last post in this thread.. sorry I don't know how to point to a particular post.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6153250?tstart=0
Tell me more info on the whole network setup.. particularly the main modem/router and details of its setup, including home IP and dhcp range .. if you need me to give you some hints for how to fix it on the TC..
Do try it but start with a full factory reset.. and do it twice over.. one after the other..
    The Factory Reset universal
Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. The time is not important.. it is the front LED rapid flashing that indicates you are in factory mode.
    Release reset.
If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have released reset at some point and try again.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.

  • My iPad Mini keeps saying "incorrect wifi password"

So just recently my ipad had dissconnected itself from our internet, i had attempted to re enter our regular wifi password which is about thirty numbers long, and it said incorrect, i figured sicne it was so long i mistyped something. so i typed it in another 10 or so times, no change. i later called apple which got me no where because appearently you now have to pay for phone sevices which is absouloutly ludacris. And seeing as our closest apple stores are in Detroit, or London, my parents cant just go take me whenever.
So anyways, i have googled every possible thing i can, and i still havent found any troublshooting things that work. Soft resets, and resseting network settings didnt help either. We thought it may have been our router, but yesterday i hd gotten a new phone which had no problems at all connecting to our internet, as well as my sister who had forgotten and reconected to our internet with out a problem too, i have tried updating to the latest ios but my itunes wont let me do it through the computer, and seeing as i have no wifi on my ipad i cant do it that way either.
So now im trying all i can to try and get it to update. I dont really want to restore because if i do and it doesnt fix anything, im stuck with an ipad that is basically usless because i cant download apps without wifi. And i have tried the whole turning on and off your router sequence many times and it hasnt worked.
So is there any way that i can fix this without restoring or going to apple? Restoring is my last resort.

Even though other devices can connect, it may still be worth resetting the router. Does it connect to other Wi-Fi networks?
If that doesn't work, you've done all the basic troubleshooting, so it's time for a restore.
If that doesn't work, you may have a hardware issue.

  • Lost WiFi password. How can I get it back?

Hello, all. A few months ago I was cleaning out my laptop of old files I don't need anymore and since I had amassed at least 150 files (yeah, I'm not very frequent on cleaning), I was mass deleting files to make it a faster task. In my deleting spree, I deleted a  very important file. A file that held my WiFi security settings, password, etc. I now need my WiFi password since I'm buying a Wii U when that comes out on the 18th.
I am hoping to hook up said Wii U to the internet, but as we all know, that requires WiFi which requires knowing your password. Which, I don't know the password by heart, and I need the find it again. Is there any way for me to find the password of my WiFi router without having to call in someone from the GEEK Squad or would it be best to have someone sent out? Its not a major hurry since its just a gaming console and therefore not a life necessity, but still it'd be nice to have.
The router is a Linksys and if it means anything my two computers are Windows XP (PC) and Windows 7 (laptop). Thanks for any help that can be offered. Hoping I can get this resolved.

You're much better off utilizing the 'reset' button the back of your router and going through the setup again, and writing down the password that you set this time.
If you like my post, or solution to your issue/question, go ahead and click on the little star by my name and/or accept the post as the Solution. It makes me happy.
I'm NOT an employee of Best Buy, or Geek Squad, though I did work as an Agent for a year 5 years ago. None of my posts are to be taken as the official stance that Best Buy will take on your situation. My advice is just that, advice.
Unfortunately, that's the bad luck of any electronic, there's going to be bad Apples... wait that's a horrible pun.

  • IPHONE 4 DOESN'T ACCEPT WIFI PASSWORDS ANYMORE - PLEASE HELP!

    Hi all,
My iPhone 4 out of blue decided not to accept the wifi password- it says "wrong password for xxx network" - it's my home one it always worked-
I was away and worked fine for a week in others houses (where the password was stored already) went to other house, tried to connect with passwprd and started saying the pw was wrong - got home last night and didn't connect right away as usual(maybe because I've reset the network when away) so I've put the pw in and again says it's wrong - Of course the password is correct - laptop works fine and iPod touch as well - At work there is a non protected wifi and it connects fine - So looks like the iPhone doesn't accept passwprds for the wifi
I've tryed to reset the network few times, reboot it few times, reset all settings and update the sofware (version 5.0.1) - nothing worked - aw also unpluged and re-pluged the router at home (knowiing wouldn't' help)
PLEASE help, very frustrating - I've seen few people had the same issue but nothing worked.
    Thanks

    You're welcome.
Incorrect. The passcode lock is not included with the backup. The restrictions passcode is, but not the passcode lock. If it were included with the backup, you would need to restore as a new device or not from the backup. Either way, you must restore with iTunes which is the only way around a forgotten passcode.

  • TA48312 ipad 2 wifi password problem

i have problem with my apple ipad 2 wifi password ...i use itunes latest and win xp 2   HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLP ME

I too have had this problem with both iPhone and iPad dropping my wifi network and now neither are able to join the network again. This has only occurred since the last iOs update. had problems with them dropping the network in the middle of something, but was usually able to reconnect after powerdown and reboot, now neither will reconnect.
Apple support says it's my router and modem, or my password is wrong. Nope, not those as my wii, desktop and roomie's laptop all connect just fine. The devices see the network, but are unable to join.
I am thinking this is a software/iOS issue.

  • IPhone 3G Will Not Connect To Home Wi Fi Password Issue

I discovered a solution to a password issue that I did not find a solution to here.  I am posting it for karmic equity.
I have a brand new CISCO N wireless router set for WEP.  I did not have security on my old router.
When I tried to join my secure wireless network, iPhone 3G would not accept/ recognize my new network password ("Unable to join the network ....").  Even I entered the correct "password" I could not get on the network.  I could join onto the network as "guest" using my password but only as guest, and I had to go through the Safari browser,  Wi-Fi Networks, Choose a Network.... would NOT work as guest
To connect iPhone to the password secured network (and it will automatically join in the future:
    GOTO Settings
    GOTO Wi-Fi Networks
    GOTO Other Network
    Enter name of your network
    GOTO Security
Select your security (mine is WEP)
    GOBACKTO  Other Network
PASSWORD:  !!!! Not my "network" password!!!!   Its actually my "wireless key" which is like 8476G29765.  CISCO refered to it as the "PASSPHRASE".  My password only gets me into the router, or connected as "Guest" but not connected to the network.
Note please that I could long onto the network as "guest" using my password, that was something like "password".  Again, to log onto the network I had to use the kryptic "8476G29765" passphrase that my router generated, but I entered it in SETTINGS / WiFi Networks/ Other Network....
Other methods may work as well, I dont know, but this worked like a charm.

Try restarting your WiFi routers by removing power for 30 seconds. Note that WiFi is not automatically fine just because some devices may be working with it.
On your iPad use Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings
    Try to connect.

  • TS1398 Does not remember my home wifi password

I put in my home wifi password and it does not remember it, if I leave and come back I have to re enter it, I put password in my iPhone and it
T remembers password. Is there any way to save password so I do not have to re enter

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Possible solution to wi-fi password issues in OS X Lion

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to read this forum post.
In this post, I shall be outlining the possible solution to the wi-fi password issues that have surfaced in Lion, and will no doubt be fixed by Apple in an coming update. This is sort of a temporary thing that I found to work.
To backtrack in regards to the previous operating system, Snow Leopard, if you wanted to password protect your Wifi connection for example, in regards to sharing the internet connection between, for example, between your Mac and your Ipad, you were able to go into Sharing, Internet Sharing and click on Airport options and set a password.
For the moment this appears to be absent.
Instead, you now have to click on Wi-fi options and what now appears is something along the lines of asking to input a ASCII/HEX password.
At first this seems puzzling and at first, I reinstalled Snow Leopard due to this obvious ommision in regards to the previous method, and like everybody else has said, Internet Sharing worked perefectly well in Snow Leopard.
However, I decided to install Lion once again and try to figure out a solution and as such, I came across this website
    http://www.andrewscompanies.com/tools/wep.asp
What the above website allows you to do is get a WEP key, which can be used in the Wi-fi options settings within Internet Sharing.
You simply click on the middle option on the webpage (which I did), to select 128bit key and copy and paste the HEX key, which appears under the section marked Generated Keys, into the password input section of Wi-fi options
This is where another problem arises. If you are sharing the internet connection between your Mac and your Ipad for example, the following steps need to be taken in order for this connection sharing to work
1.When you boot up your Mac, go to System Prefrences, Sharing, untick and tick the Internet Sharing checkbox and click Start on the dialog that appears.
2.Now on your Ipad, go to the Wi-fi tab, find your wireless network and click on the arrow next to it, click on Forget this network, go back to the Wi-fi screen again and tap on your Wi-fi network once again. It will now ask for your password. TYPE IN THE KEY. The connection between the Mac and the Ipad is established.
THE ABOVE STEPS WILL NEED TO BE DONE IF YOU TURN YOUR MAC OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON AGAIN.
As I've said previously, this should be a good temporary solution until Apple comes out with an update that can solve this issue
    Thank you for your time

Had the same problem (random WiFi disconnects), but AppleCare solved it.
    Delete Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration.
You'll have to reconnect WiFi, but pswd etc should still be there.

  • I can't enter my new wifi password because I can't link my keyboard without wifi. Is there an on screen keyboard? Imac so x 10.9.5

I Can't add the new wifi password after moving home because my keyboard needs Internet to set up.  any ideas? iMac is x 10.9.5
    thanks

No there is not an on-screen keyboard.
Why don't you use your keyboard to input the Wi-Fi password?
If your keyboard is an Apple wireless keyboard, then it is a Bluetooth keyboard. In the event the keyboard will not connect to your computer (you type and nothing happens!!) then simply follow these directions: Troubleshooting wireless mouse and keyboard issues - Apple Support
Once you have the keyboard connected and working then simply input the Wi-Fi password and you are done.
If you still have trouble then I strongly suggest you contact AppleCare and they can help you through the problem. If you don't know the phone number then please click https://locate.apple.com/country to get started.
