WIFI password question: a recent password required 2 bold characters. How to do this on iPad?

How does one create a BOLD character when entering a password for WIFI network access on an iPad?

This will be the last comment for me and I appreciate the input from everyone. The facility whose WIFI network I tried to join does in fact require a combination of capitalized characters, alphabetic and numerical characters as well as symbols. AND THEY ALSO REQUIRE CETAIN CHARACTERS TO BE IN BOLD FONT. The instruction sheet I have in front of me says, " Bold letters/# are as follows. Capital S , 0 zero" and on the sheet the S and 0 are in BOLD FONT. So, this does exist in the world of passwords......passwords are in fact formatted using BOLD FONT somewhere on Earth. Add this to the fund of knowledge on passwords. :-)
When I read " Bold letters/# are as follows. Capital S , 0 zero" and on the sheet the S and 0 are in BOLD FONT." it means that the characters indicated in bold, capitol S, 0 zero, and on the sheet the S and 0 are in Bold font means that they are emphasizing to you that S and 0 are indeed Capitol S and zero rather than 5 and O. Not that these characters are bold in the password.
This emphasis is often done because people confuse 5 for capital S and O for 0. The sheet is just emphasizing to use capital S not 5 and zero not O.
But it appears you have made up your mind. Good luck getting your bold characters into your password.

So iCal won't sync now as I've had to change my gmail password. Anyone figured out how to fix this?

Yes, I go to Settings>Mail>Gmail. I've deleted the old Gmail account and added it back with the new password. I've also deleted the account, shut down the iPad and iPhone and then re-add the Gmail account with the new password and it still doesn't work for either device. The error messages I get are:
For the iPad: Cannot Connect Using SSL
For the iPhone: The user name or password for "imap.gmail.com" is incorrect.

So you've never used iTunes or purchased anything from it? If you have then you will have an Apple ID, as this is used to create an account in iTunes and make purchases. In the unlikely event you've never purchased from iTunes you can create an Apple ID here: https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/

Hi-
Welcome to Discussions!
the guy says it needs a low level format?
That's not within the realm of the end user.
Low level formatting is done at the factory.

• My wife and I have separate AppleID accounts and always have. For some reason after she bought the iPhone 5c, whenever she tries to update her apps, it comes up for my AppleID and asks for my password. Please help on how to fix this!

My wife and I have separate AppleID accounts. Ever since she updated to the iPhone 5c, for some reason when she tries to update her apps, it comes up with my AppleID and asks for my password. I cannot figure out why this happening and how to fix this. Please help!

I have had this issue lately.
I can only put it down to using the one computer to update all our IPads for me and my wife.
Some of our apps, although downloaded from both our seperate accounts on our IPads, are the same.
However after plugging her IPad into the computer when my AppleID is on ITunes, I think something strange has happened and when she then tries to update Apps on her IPad and I try on mine it now asks for the others Apple ID password.
The only way I have found to counteract this is to update an app one at a time, if that app asks for your wifes password then delete it and then reinstall it.
That has solved it for me.
Hope this helps

• I received the following error when attempting to use HP SimplePass Identity Protection to manage my passwords; Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (dpql) isn't associated with any program. How can I correct this?

I use HP SimplePass Identity Protection to control my passwords. Everything was fine until I updated to Firefox 4. Can I remove version 4 or is there a solution to my problem. I received the following error message; Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (dpql) isn't associated with any program.

You'll have to downgrade to the previous secure version I regret to say. See https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/799388
Go to [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html Download Firefox v3.6.17] and download it to the desktop.

Then go to Add/Remove Programs, scroll down to "Mozilla Firefox" and remove it, choosing to keep your bookmarks, customizations etc., (don't checkmark the box).

Then reboot and delete the folder called "Mozilla Firefox" at this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

Finally run the installation file you downloaded to the desktop earlier.

Your bookmarks, customizations etc., are maintained in a different location and will become available to you again once you complete the installation.

After you complete the installation, go to the [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ Plugins Check] page and update those where necessary.

With regard to what? I assume that since the link connected to your question was from the "How to update your iDevice" kb article, you are talking about seeing this behavior after you updated the iPad.
So, if that's the case, it really shouldn't take but a minute or so, if it even takes that long. If this has been going on for minutes and minutes, the update process is stuck now. You can try restarting the iPad and see if the iPad behaves normally. That might be all that you need to do to set things right again. If restarting just takes you back to this page loading again, you can try rebooting the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

Hi le.hamzou,
Previous suggestions were to update the Security Manager if there was one. There were also these add ons:
[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/fingerfox-se/ Fingerfox], but I am not sure if it will work on win8, it does on win7.
Another work around I saw was [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search/?q=ietab&appver=29.0&platform=all IE Tab].

• HT2020 I try to set up the Ichat and it put my computer name a some password that i dont know, how to fix this problem

Hi there
I just bought a macbook pro i have been using windows my whole life so i am really strugling to do every simple thing now, literaly crawling.
Could somebody help me please.
Thanks

HI,
It would help to know which version of iChat you are using.
A New MacBook Pro is more likely to be running OS X 10.8.something.
Go to the Apple Icon top left and select the "About this Mac" item.
The Panel that shows up will show the OS version the Mac is running.
My iMac's panel.
It says I am running OS X 10.8.4
OS X 10.8.x is generically know as Mountain Lion.
In Mountain Lion Apple introduced Messages which has a different set up to the iChat versions in earlier OSes.
iChat first run
In versions 2 through 5 you get sent through a set of Start Up Screens.
These ask you for your AIM or @mac.com or @me.com names at that time.
Then there is a another screen that prompts you for your Jabber or Google ID.
There is a screen to Enable Bonjour (a way of Chatting with other Mac s on the same LAN).
Alternative for iChat
You can click through the Start Up Screens and not enter anything (it cannot tell that you have not entered an AIM name or a Jabber based name as you don't have to enter an AIM valid name or a Jabber one the first time).
iChat will now start but not show any Buddy lists
With iChat in the Menu bar chose the iChat menu > Preferences > Accounts.
This will list the Bonjour Account (everyone has this and it cannot be deleted.) although it is not likely to be Enabled.
Below this area for the list of Accounts is a Plus and Minus icon/Buttons
Click the Plus one.
This will open a new pane. (window)
The top item is a drop down.
Depending which version you have will alter what options you see.
iChat 4 and 5 will list AIM then @mac.com and MobileMe before a line that then has GoogleTalk and Jabber.
iChat 6 will also have Yahoo
iChat 3 will list AIM and @mac.com and Jabber (it did not list Google separately)
In Messages the AIM options are reduced to just "AIM" but you can still use this for @mac.com and @me.com ending IDs from Apple (That are valid AIM names)
With the drop down expanded.
Messages in Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8.x)
This will start up differently
It will ask for an Apple ID so you can "Register" it for iMessages.
iMessages is a form of Messaging that Apple have included on iOS devices (IPhone and iPads) that has been aded to what was iChat to make the Messages App.
Again if you click through this the Preferences > Accounts of the App will still show the Bonjour and the iMessages accounts that cannot be deleted.
You can still go ahead and enter AIM valid names or Jabber/Google ID s and Yahoo IDs using the Plus icon below the list.
Passwords
If you have a version that means you can create and Yahoo or Google Account in Messages or iChat then you use the password that works logging into Yahoo or Google.
If you have an @mac.com ending ID from Apple make sure the password at Apple is 16 characters or Less as this is needed by the AIM servers to work.
The same applies to @me.com and @icloud.com ending IDs
However these particular "iCloud issued" IDs will not work in iChat 5 or earlier versions.
This is dues to a change in iChat 6 and Messages where by there is a Login to Apple that in turn allows the AIM server to "Read" the Password. This does not happen in iChat 5 or earlier so the names issued since iCloud started don't work.

• I use master password & if I change passwords on a site, it doesn't ask to "change" Also doesn't ask to "remember" with new usernames/passwords. Does anyone know how to fix this or add usernames & passwords to saved password page on Firefox.

Firefox (I think version 5, maybe 4) does not ask to "remember" passwords anymore nor does it ask to "change" a password when I've done that. It didn't ask when I changed my Facebook password & I have to log in each time so I removed my username & password for FB on Firefox's "saved password" page. When I've don't that before, it asks to "remember" but doesn't anymore. I use a master password.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode.

*Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"
The website may be using autocomplete=off to prevent Firefox from saving the name and password.
You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox save the name and password.

We have an app where the user is supposed to be automatically logged out after 45 days of being signed in. Obviously waiting 45 days to execute one test case isn't going to work. Does anyone have any work arounds or suggestions for setting up a way to do this?

Still looking for answers on how to change the date and time on Apple TV for testing purposes. Can anyone help?

Hello Nancy,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Wi-Fi on your iPhone. I recommend the following article and specifically steps 4 and 6 for the situation you described. Step 4 says to restart your phone, but if you click on the link in step 4, you will get the steps to reset your iPhone as well.

• WIFI Password Issue

Hey guys, this is probably a question with a really simple answer but when i try to connect to WIFI on my iphone it requires a password. Does anyone know how to get this from the original computer the connection exists from??
cheers

The password is set during the setup of the network. Your ISP won't have access to it either. Unfortunately, if you can't retrieve the password, you'll need to reset your router and then set up the network fresh. You should be able to find instructions for that on the manufacturer's website for the router.
