Wifi passwords missing from Mavericks keychain

In OS X 10.8 and previous, all my wifi passwords were stored in my keychain, and were viewable in keychain access.
Following my upgrade of the OS to Mavericks, I now can't locate or view any wifi (AirPort) network passwords that were previously saved in my OS keychain.
I DON'T have iCloud keychain activated, and never had.
Please can someone help me out with this issue?
Thank you in advance for any assistance that you're able to provide!

I had the same issue just now, but I found the solution.
You need to select a different keychain in the top left of the window.
normally "login" is selected, and I found the wifi passwords in "Local Items".
hope that helps others.

  • Is my Apple ID password excluded from iCloud Keychain?

While iCloud Keychain is working for some accounts, I cannot get it to enter my Apple ID password (for instance: for my iTunes account, buying apps, or for this Apple Support Communities sign in).
I've gone to Safari>Preferences>Passwords and "Autofill User Names & Passwords" is checked.
Is the Apple ID password excluded from iCloud Keychain, or can anyone explain how I can get this to work.
    Thanks.

I am having exactly the same issue and tearing my hair out. I never set up a passcode, yet it has locked me out and insists on a passcode. I have tried all combinations and none were accepted, so I am also stuck.
Itunes says it can't sync with it because it has been disabled. I followed online instructions to reset the IPAD by unplugging from computer and turning it off then using button below and plug it back in, restore factory settings etc which was another 1 hour downloading proces, but it made no difference, it still wants a passcode. AAARGH has anyone had any success gettting theirs unlocked? Mine is brandnew and never even been used...

  • Password Prompt from Mail Server

I keep getting prompted by my mail server:
The POP server “mail.username.com” rejected the password for user “[email protected]
Yet the correct password does not work. This is an on and off problem, 2 hours here then OK, one day there then OK! The problem in spite of endless live chats with my host provider, I thought it was a host server issue, however I have just changed host, and still the problem continues!!
On Mac support the only case similar is an Apple share topic, and it suggests emtpying the casche on the server side!!
    Anyone??
    Simon

Open /Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access, choose Keychain First Aid from the application menu, and proceed to repair the keychain. If that doesn’t work, you may try removing the password entry from the keychain and letting Mail create it again the next time it asks for it.
Note, however, that Mail often doesn’t correctly report what the problem really is. If Mail can connect to the server but cannot log into your mail account for some reason, it’ll ask for your password regardless of whether that’s really the problem or not. Don’t keep entering the password every time — just click Cancel instead, and take the account back online afterwards.
Some ISPs refuse connection attempts if they are too frequent, for example, or limit the number of simultaneous connections that are allowed from the same IP address, or there may be too many messages on the server and Mail times out before the server responds, or there might be a problem with the network, or there might be a problem with the server...
Do you access this account from more than one computer or some other way (e.g. webmail) while Mail is checking for mail?
What’s the time interval chosen in Mail > Preferences > General > Check for New Mail? If it’s set to Every minute, try changing it to Every 5 minutes.
If this is a POP account, what are your Preferences > Accounts > Remove copy from server settings?
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same), uncheck (disable) the rest of network port configurations and see whether that helps — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.
Try using a different method to connect to Internet, if possible, or connecting the computer to Internet as directly as possible (i.e. bypassing any routers that might be present, using an ethernet cable instead of wireless, etc.), or shutting down both the computer and the router/modem used to connect to Internet, restarting, and see whether that makes a difference.

  • Loosing Wifi password every start up and coming from hibernation.

Hi There... Several months ago, I started to notice that every time I turned my MacBook Air on, or came back from hibernation, I will have to retype the Wifi password from my network.  Is almost like the Mac for some reason can not hold it in memory.  At the begining it was not bad.... Any body can re-type passwords.. right???.... but after a while...well... you get the picture...  wife calls to get the password every time.. etc.... Does somebody knows how can I solve this?
    Thank you!!

For future reference, you have a MacBook Air question here, so you would want to post in the MacBook Air support community.....MacBook Air......or....in the support community of the operating system that you are using.....Mac OS X v10.7 Lion
Check to make sure that your wireless network password is saved on your MacBook Air as follows:
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > KeyChain Access
Locate the listing with the name of the wireless network
    Double click that listing
Enter your main administrator password for the MacBook Air to reveal the wireless network password to make sure that it is correct
    Close KeyChain Access
Next, open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
    Open Network
Click on Wi-Fi on the left, then click Advanced at the lower right
Make sure that the name of your preferred wireless network appears first in line at the top of the connection order list. If it's not, drag it there.
Make sure that there is a check mark in the box next to Remember networks this computer has joined.
No other boxes should be checked
Click OK at the lower right of the window, then click Apply at the lower right of the next window that appears
Close Network and System Preferences and restart the MacBook Air to see that will help.
If you are still having difficulty, you may need to re-install the operating system for the Mac Air.

  • Since upgrading to Mavericks I am finding that I am lucky to get 2 hours (when connected to WiFi) of use from my macbook Pro.

Since upgrading to Mavericks I am finding that I am lucky to get 2 hours (when connected to WiFi) of use from my Macbook Pro.  I have turned off Bluetooth ( which was not an issue previously), uninstalled Chrome, again not an issue before I upgraded, and have not seen any improvement.
I was using an older OS system (Snow Leopard) on my 2010 Macbook Pro.  I am wondering now if the upgrade was an unwise move?

    jbuckworth,
which apps do you run under battery power? Are any of them identified as “apps using significant energy” when you click on the battery icon in the menu bar? If you have a 15-inch or 17-inch model, are your apps using the discrete GPU (which consumes more power than the integrated GPU)?
How many charge cycles has your battery accumulated?
How long have you had Mavericks installed? Is Spotlight still reïndexing your boot drive? (It does that whenever your OS is upgraded, because so many files change in an OS upgrade.)

  • Asked to insert my password, from a keychain I don't have?

I'm trying to log in to my Microsoft Lync account, but I get a notification asking for my password from a keychain I don't have. So how am I suppose to know the password? The problem is that I can't even find that specific keychain (or Lync in my keychain, because I haven't added it to the keychain), and I can't log in to my Lync.

Look in Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access for your keychain. You can look for the password the. Run Keychain First Aid.

You can use Group Policy Preferences to push the registry keys

Time machine only copies User Info and Users (Applications, Library, and System are missing) from my quad core Mac Pro.  45 Gb of 162 Gb are missing.  Any one having success with time machine copying all folders using Mavericks?
What do I need to do differently?

The late, great Pondini was investigating that issue before he passed away.
    See here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5125969
I think there might be information there on how to reset Time Machine to do a full backup. I think you basically have to reset it and start over.

  • Photos Missing from iPhoto with Maverick Upgrade

I have recently upgraded to the Maverick OS and noticed that all my photos are now missing from iPhoto however I can see them under Preview when I use the Finder application. Also, when I open iPhoto it prompts me to enter personalized settings as if I am using it for the first time (ie: Face recognition, etc.) How can I get my photos back into iPhoto? I am worried I may lose them.

Have you upgraded iPhoto after your Mavericks upgrade?
Be aware after updating iPhoto save your iPhoto Library before you open it in the new version of iPhoto Library. If you don't and you have other Macs running eariler versions of iPhoto, they won't be able to open the Library.

  • Wifi issues after upgrading from Maverick to Yosemite. No solutions have worked.

I upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.1 from Mavericks. Having wifi issue where I can't connect to my home network. It connects for 5 seconds than I get "no IP address", and then the connection drops. A free local wifi connection does work. Any ideas until this issue is fixed by Apple? My home router worked fine in Maverick. I tried all the online suggestions but nothing has worked. Have not downgraded yet to Maverick but thinking about it.

  • I have an Itel based iMac on which I created a Wifi network using Airport. My iPhone5 uses the Wifi on my iMac and still works. My problem is that I can't remember the Wifi password and it is not in my Keychain.

I have an Itel based iMac on which I created a Wifi network using Airport. My iPhone5 uses the Wifi on my iMac and still works. My problem is that I can't remember the Wifi password and it is not in my Keychain. What can I do so that I can connect other devices to my Wifi?

Read the router's user manual on how to change your password.
If you are going to select another password, make sure it's one that you will NEVER forget AND no one else can figure it out.  Print it out & keep in a safe place.  A place that ONLY you know about AND never forget.

  • Any way to retain secure WiFi passwords after a restore from a different backup?

My work's IT dept. loaded on some secure WiFi passwords onto my new work-issued iPad 4 -- when I'm at a site with WiFi, it should connect even though I don't know the passwords.
I have an older iPad that is configured just how I like it.  I know that I can restore from old iPad to new iPad and duplicate those apps and configurations.  However, I believe I will lose the private passwords that IT entered for me.  I have read that I can maintain the passwords if I do an encrypted backup, but that will only help with what I've got now.  The new iPad is just at the stock config.  If I do an encrypted backup of it, then restore from old iPad, I'll still lose my passwords.  If I restore from the new iPad with the encrypted passwords, I'll be back to my stock setup.  I can't have both, right?
    Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure they will only enter them on work-issued devices.  The only issue on the config is that I basically wanted to put a clone of the old one on the new one.  Lots of apps and tweaks that I'd rather not have to do all over again.  I think I'm stuck.
