WIFI & Phone Signal Fluctuation

Ever since my 2.0 update, the wifi & phone signal fluctuate randomly. Sometimes the bars are 5, then suddenly 0, wifi keeps disconnecting and asking for the wifi password again, is this an update issue?

With WIFI Turned on and 3G Turned off - Full Signal for most of the day!
3G Turned on - Signal lowers to 1 Bar in my area!
Is this because the phone is showing me the signal strength of 3G instead of the Phone signal itself?
Did you read my first post, or any of the others? I'm not sure what you mean by "Phone signal itself". 3G signal covers both voice and data, except when Wi-Fi is on. The signal strength (bars next to AT&T) is the strength of the cell network signal. If 3G is on and received, it is the 3G protocol. If 3G is off or not available, it is the Edge/GSM. If Wi-Fi is on, the phone doesn't show which one - only the Wi-Fi icon with its signal strength - when you turn Wi-Fi off, it will display which one.
Your phone dropped to 1 bar with 3G, because the 3G signal is weaker than Edge/GSM in your area. If you read the article I referred you to, you'll see that the number of bars isn't so important with 3G - for voice or data.

  • Why does my phone signal fluctuate from say 3 bars to no service at home?

    on orange, uk.
reception has seemed fine when out and about and other places.
orange reception in another nokia at home living room seems fine
but the iphone at home in the living room fluctuates from 3 bars to no service and usually the latter more often than not.

Well, duh, thank you Captain Obvious. My 1st gen iPhone got the same signal, another 3G phone (not iPhone) gets the same signal, they got full Edge or 3G strength, but not my 3GS. Why should the iPhone get so much less and is there anything I can do to increase my signal without moving into a tent. Although with the way Washington is getting into my pockets, I might be forced into that option.

  • Sending email using phone signal not wifi

    Dear all,
I would appreciate any help. I have two pop email accounts set up on my iphone. When connected to wifi both send and receive emails. However when connected via O2 signal (Uk) then the accounts will only receive and not send. In stead i get an rror message about the outgoing smtp server
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Josh

Okay, got some progress. If I configure the outgoing server to smtp.o2.co.uk then when I am using edge or standard phone signal the the emails are sent. If I then switch to wifi then the emails will not send.
However if I change the outgoing server to smtp.ntlworld.com then the emails will send when using wifi and but not if using edge or standard phone signal.
Not great but I guess that since this is a mobile device I will keep it set to o2.
Unless anyone who is way smarter than me (not Hard) can provide a solution. I suppose I could set up duplicate accounts with all settings identical apart from the smtp server.
    would that work?
    Josh
Here's a solution that will work with both wifi and GPRS/EDGE connection. Use the smtp.o2.co.uk hostname for the Ougoing Server but also add your o2 username (full email address) and o2 password into the Outgoing Server fields.

  • IPod Touch WIFI Signal Fluctuates After Upgrading to iOS4

I upgrade to iOS4, and now my iPod Touch 3rd gen's WIFI signal fluctuates now matter how close I am to my Airport. I can be right next to the Airport and the signal will go back and forth from one bar to three bars. Never happened with OS 3.1.3.

For those having Wi-Fi issues... What level of encryption are you using on your routers? And is your router at full power? I'm not really having any Wi-Fi issues, I'm using WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES] and I switch my router to full power after I started having the iOS4 batter problem. (it was on "Neighbor Friendly" Mode). I was worried that a weaker signal would contribute even more to the already existing battery drain and I'm figuring that having the encryption on the highest level is also affecting the battery as well, but I haven't tested the difference.
Using WEP + hidden SSID at home (I have some devices that choke on WPA). Open WiFi access with authentication at work. Router signal boosted from 42mW to 70mW using Tomato firmware.
Also, if you're using a Pre-N router, disabling "Neighbor Friendly" mode means you're using a ton of 2.4GHz channels. This prevents any neighbors near your home from using WiFi, because you've stolen all of the available channels. I had to set up my sister-in-law on Wireless-A, because her backyard neighbor hates her, and turned off "Neighbor Friendly" mode on his router. What a pain.

  • My partner updated to IOS 5 last night on his iPhone 4 and can no longer pick up any wifi signal and phone signal is dire in areas where he had no problem before... anyone having similar issues??

After updating to IOS 5 on an iPhone 4 can no longer get wifi in my home and phone signal is terrible and drops out taking up to 10 mins to re-appear... anyone else having these sort of problems??

I am having similar problems on my new iPhone 4S
My mac gets good wifi connection in the same location. I measured the signal strength -- something like -77db signal vs. -90db noise.
But my iPhone WiFi keeps cutting in and out. In fact, I left my phone on last night to update various apps over WiFi. When I checked it this a.m. I had received several warning messages from AT&T that I was nearing my 3G data limit. I looked at my phone and it had consumed nearly 100mb of cellular data overnight, when it should have been connected over WiFi.
Needless to say, it's taken some of the thrill away from my new iPhone...

  • What's the connection between data connections (3G/4G/WiFi) and phone signal strength (calls)?

At home I'm almost always on my wifi with the 3G/4G turned off.  I've turned it on to experiment, and I get 3G in my house, but the reception (to make and receive phone calls) stays at 0 to 1 bars.  There is a Target store about a 10 minute walk from my house and I get 4G LTE when I'm shopping there, but the reception (calls) is still weak, maybe better but I can't tell you offhand.
There is a Verizon tower about 6 miles southwest of my home; they actually had me drive out and sit under it last winter to fix a Droid Pro problem once.
I absolutely do not understand how 3G and 4G relate to call signal strength, as it's been eluded to in other discussions.  I'm getting the impression that it affects the signal strength for phone calls, but then how can I (on my old phone) toggle it off and still have signal for calls?  When I drive into the heart of 4G LTE country I can turn off the data and still have 4 or 5 bars.  What's the connection between data and phone signal strength?

    Nor under a tower,
    Nor in a car,
Nor while eating green eggs and ham,

  • Need help Phone signal going on and off

I need help with my Z3, I just installed the new update (23.0.1.A.5.77) and the phone signal won't connect. It keeps fluctuating off and on. It was working perfectly fine before the update. I even did a reset but its still the same.

    Hi Flexatron,
Welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.
Did you by chance try simply removing the SIM card from the handset for around 30 seconds and putting it back in and restarting.
This could be a simple communications issue with the SIM.
let us know how you get on.

  • IPhone 3G drops phone signal. Restore IOS?

Having upgraded to an iPhone4S, my wife inherited my old 3G. It has worked fine for years, but now in the past few weeks it will lose all phone signals, showing just "Searching...". WiFi is fine. Going to Airplane Mode and back doesn't help; only rebooting (turning off and then on) will restore the signal, full bars, fine for a day or so. This is in my house, with a good signal, and my 4S never drops it, so it's not a signal issue. Nor hardware, or why does a reboot bring it back? I'm thinking I should reinstall the IOS. Does a full reset to factory keep the existing IOS? I am fully up-to-date with whatever version 3G is up to. I want to reinstall it fresh: restoring it from a backup will only put back whatever problem it has, no? The various support pages are not clear on this. Mr. Google shows me some pages on how to revert to an older IOS; if I tried that, I would then automatically be presented the opportunity to update to latest, correct? I use Win7-64bit iTunes, though I have access to a Mac. TIA.

In this post you mentioned being an Ex-Genius, which I understood to mean you used to work for Apple. If so we should be asking you this question...
But that aside, I wonder if the network is dropping you back to Edge assuming there is no need to clog up the network with sleeping phones during high load times. Then when you wake your phone, it tries to jump from Edge to 3G and that is what you are seeing. Just Guessing here....
Also perhaps your battery being as low as is indicated caused the phone to go to deep power saving mode...

  • No phone signal, Can't get a phone signal on my iPad 2. Sigal is strong on my iPhone.  Tried reset and power off.

Currently traveling in Scotland with slow connection.  I get a usable phone signal in my wife's iPad and my iPhone but my iPad2 shows "no service". Have tried shutdown and reset both manually and odd the Settings menu. What else can I try?

I'm not 100% on this, but I am pretty sure, You can only use the carrier which your sim is locked to. Changing it will likely result in an error. If you are on different carriers, then you are stuck, sadly. You may like to buy a new sim for your iPad, from a carrier which you know you can get signal from where you are. Ask in a phone shop, or a shop which sells the iPad, if there are any.

  • 'No Service' phone signal on 3GS

My 3GS suddenly stopped receiving a phone signal despite seaching.  An iPhone 4 next to it sees the signal.  I've completed a reset, removed the sim and reinstalled, turned Bluetooth off.  WiFi is OK but with Carrier set to manual it won't see any service provider at all so no phone signal.  I've run out of ideas on this.  Any clues?

It was given to him as a gift by a cousin, brandnew at the time. That’s what I have been told and why I am not giving up on it being some other issue that can actually be fixed.
As for Settings>General>About>Model, here is a screenshot:

  • Compatibility Spectralink wifi phones with WLC4402 and AP1020

Does anyone know if Spectralink wifi phones runs over a Cisco WLAN solution that includes a WLC 4402 and 1020 APs??
    Thanks in advance.

As long as the AP and the phone support 802.11b, you should be good. One note of caution though...some thought over which phone firmware and how the WLAN is laid out physically should be considered. Spectralink utilizes a "countdown timer" once a signal gets low enough to trigger this event. This may cause problems since the phone doesn't roam the way a laptop does based on signal alone. Picture being in an elevator where each floor has its own AP right outside the door where the signals are low enough on the AP side that you would expect the phone to pick up each AP as it passes from floor to floor. The timer doesn't go as fast as the elevator and this didn't really work out as planned. Lots of dropped calls etc...the main reason is we had to lock our datarates at 11mbps. I believe, although I never got to test it, that had we been allowed to lower the datarates the phones would have behaved.
Also the good battery life of the Spectralink phones is due in part to the sleep mode thing where after so much inactivity it goes to sleep to save the battery and every so many milliseconds it checks to see if it needs to wake up. You need to make sure there is always enough signal around for these things to occur and not miss any calls.
I would do some testing before I bought anything, but Spectralink works pretty much everywhere...

  • Phone signal crossing

Why is it that whenever my phone rings my son's phone rings simultaneously.  We are both utilizing IOS 8.1.2 I believe our phones signals are crossing but I don't know why or how to correct it.  I went through all of the options with regard to what numbers can be utilized to contact either of us and still the problem persists. Please advise.  Any help is appreciated.

The phone signals have nothing to do with it.
Its a new feature in iOS 8  called Continuity.
It will happen, if you are using the same Apple ID for iCloud on both phones and both phones are on the same Wifi network at the time a call is received on one of the iPhones,
    https://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/continuity/
Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac using Continuity - Apple Support
There are 2 ways you can disable this:
    1. Use different Apple ID's for iCloud.
    2. Go to Settings->Facetime->iPhone Cellular Calls on each iPhone and turn it off.

  • Phone signal anomaly

Others have probably seen this, but sometimes, when I wake the iPhone (one of the original models) from Airplane Mode, it's unable to find a phone signal - I get the 'No Service' message. Powering off and back on invariably fixes it; any workaround? It's inconvenient to have to shut it off.

    Hi ,
I have checked the area an faults have been reported,
Have you tried resetting the network settings?
Go to Settings >> General >> Reset - Reset Network Settings Only (This will clear any saved WIFI passwords)

  • Does the new ipad 4g gps works without cell phone signal

does the new ipad 4g gps works without cell phone signal?

GPS has no need of a cell phone signal or wifi. The only reason you would need a data signal is to download maps to enable the GPS to show you where you are. If you installed an app which includes the mapping, for instance TomTom, you have no need for data reception.
