Wifi printing with Airport Extreme

Have iPad (1st gen) and iMac. Just hooked up Airport Extreme as router and have printer plugged to it. My printer (Epson Stylus NX400) isn't an Airprint-enabled printer. Is there any way to print from the iPad.
Thanks,
Armando

Armando-
There are a couple of possibilities.
1.  Use an iPad App like Print n Share.  It has its own mail, browser, photo and text programs that can print to some non-AirPrint printers.  I don't know if it can print from within other iPad Apps or not.  For Print n Share or PrintCentral, contact EuroSmartz to find out if your Epson is supported.
2.  I assume you can print from the iMac.  It is possible to share the iMac's printer as AirPrint over WiFi.  There are programs such as Printopia.  There is also a Hack that can add a small text file to a SnowLeopard hidden folder, that allows printer sharing as AirPrint.  Search the web for AirPrint Activator, and you should find it.

  • Can't print with Airport Extreme

I am having trouble printing with Airport Extreme.
My printer is connected to the AE but every time I try to print I get a printer offline message.
I have tried in the past to print wirelessly but have given up.
I just bought a new MacBook Pro so I thought I would give it another go.
    Thank you.

Not very much to go on here but I'll give it a stab.
Go to the Airport Utility program located in Applications/Utilities folder.
Run this and select "manual setup" for your AE displayed on the left.
Hit the Printers icon on the top. Your shared printer should be displayed here. If it's not, then ensure it's powered on, good usb connection etc.
After this shows a usb printer connected then go to System Preferences>Print & Fax. You'll see printers you have setup before on the left. A green icon usually means they are available. If print doesn't work to the desired printer the best thing to do is remove the previous definitions by highlighting the printer and hitting the "-" icon.
Now hit the "+" sign and define the shared printer. It should be listed in the resulting "add Printer" dialog. Highlight, change any naming info and click "add".
Printer should now be available. I'm assuming a supported printer that have the device drivers loaded on your system.
    That's all I got.

  • Lost wifi connection with Airport Extreme.

Lost wifi connection with Airport Extreme.   When I connect my modem directly to the computer I can access the internet, however as of this morning I am no longer able to access the internet via wifi on my airport extreme.  I have been using  airport extreme for 6 months or more and everything has been working fine.
When I diconnect my  airport extreme and reconnect it I get wifi for 1-2 minutes working fine, but then i lose internet connection.  According to airport Utility everything is setup and connected and working ok, but I still am not able to access any webpages over wifi.

I have the same issue, I'm getting droppeds from wireless constantly

how to print with a wireless printer with airport extreme

The problem is not the router.. the issue is the vpn has put your computer in a different IP range with a different gateway. When you turn off the vpn the computer returns to local lan and can print.
Some vpn software allows you to set gateway to use local net instead of remote gateway or access to other webistes or local lan.
    Read up the issue.

    Cisco vpn client..
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/239113
I did not search much.. just grabbed the first article I could find that explains the issue.
The whole point of the vpn is whilst it is connected your computer is NOT part of the Local Lan .. it is part of the Remote LAN via the vpn tunnel.
It is also a security risk using split tunnelling so often it will not be allowed.
Plug the printer directly into the computer via usb or whatever.. Local connection will work.. not local lan.

  • HP printing with AirPort Extreme

I have a imac with Intel, OSX 10.6.  I am using a HP Photosmart C7280 All-in-One printer, and have been for a few years and it has worked extremely well.  Earlier this year my old airport extreme went bad and I purchased the latest one.  It has the latest updates available.  When I got the new Airport Extreme the directions said to plug the printer via USB cable into the Airport.  I have been through the system preferences, deleted and added the printer, went through the manual set-up for the Airport Extreme, rebooted everything and it will NOT print.  The Airport Utilities recognizes the printer and it tries to print and stops giving me a message of "Printer Paused", or printer offline.  When I hit "resume", the printer cycles a bit and them goes to "Printer Paused" again.  Everything worked great until I purchased the new Airport Extreme.
The printer works excellent when plugged into the back of my imac, however, it does not make my wife happy because she can't print from her laptop.  My Son brought a friend home with him for the weekend that is a Software Engineer.  He downloaded software and drivers and installed them and he could not get it to print with the USB cable plugged into the Airport either.  He worked with it for 4 hours.  The HP printer just will not communicate with the Airport.  I have also been getting a message this evening that one of my ink cartridges has expired.  I can shake it and it appears to be almost full.  I opened a new one and get the same message that it is expired.  I have had the new one for several months though because I hate running out of ink.
Any help would be most appreciated.

I am not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to setting this stuff up.  I was hooking the printer up to the Airport Extreme because the set-up instructions said to.  When the software engineer was here, he could not get the wireless on the printer to find the Airport Extreme.  The kid is pretty sharp but was under a lot of pressure to get done so that he and my Son could get on the road.  He wasn't expecting to get into the hassles of setting this up.
This is probably mostly because of the name I have given to the Extreme being too long and not remembering, or KNOWING anything about this.  I have given the Extreme one name and the network another.  I don't know where the set-up instructions are and he was trying to guess.  I just tried doing as you said to make the printer wireless but failed for the same reasons he did.  I got a message to go back and check the set-up.  I am not sure what I am supposed to check for.   I guess I will have to change some of the set-up information on the router as far as naming the router and network.
When I got this pinter I did not have v.10.6 on the imac at the time.  However, when I downloaded the software from HP, it was for 10.6 and 10.7.   I just a few minutes ago got the printer to work with the USB cable plugged into the computer, actually a USB hub.  Just a few minutes after i got the printer working by hooking it to the USB hub, a software update popped up for a HP printer update.  For a bit of information, I have had problems with concentration since several war injuries in Viet Nam and I get lost easily.  I don't mean to use this as an excuse, just explaining that I will be a bit slow following you.  I was a Senior Radio Repairman and Communications Chief in the Army and head of the Crypto Center.  Now I feel like a lost ball in high weeds.  I can still work things out by reasoning to an extent, but sometimes it is very frustrating, so I ask that you bear with me.

  • Problem printing with Airport Extreme/Bonjour through Mozilla Firefox

    Hi.
With the help of Apple's telephone tech support, I just set-up my new PowerBook G4 and Airport Extreme (including cable internet, desktop nonwireless PC, and HP LaserJet 3012).
I can now print from the PowerBook and through MS Word on the desktop. The problem is I can't print email or web pages through Mozilla Firefox on the PC. Has anyone else had any problems with this? Is there a Mozilla update that would fix it? Unfortunately, Apple tech support said they can't help with it since it is printing through other applications, just not Mozilla Firefox. They suggested I try this discussion board.
I haven't downloaded Mozilla Firefox on the PowerBook yet so I don't know if the Mozilla problem with replicate there too. I can print from Safari on the PowerBook right now.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Same problem, kind of... Have an Imac G5 with HP Laserjet 1012 connected usb. The Imac is direct wired to a 2Wire DSL wireless access point.
Setup bonjour on a (checks to make sure nobody is listening...) Toshiba Tecra L2 (Windows XP SP2). Prints fine from IE, refuses to print from firefox. Acts like it is printing, doesn't go. Prints fine from Word.
Setup bonjour on my wife's (covers mouth, looks embarrassed and coughs) dell d610 (windows xp sp2). Prints fine from ie and firefox. same network, same basic software.
Apple's bonjour site said something about an ie bonjour plugin, but that wouldn't explain why my wife's dell prints from firefox.
Anyone know if there is a firefox bonjour plug? haven't been able to find one. any suggestions on what settings would account for the differences. checked the firewall and exceptions in laptops.

  • How do I fix my iPhone 5 wifi problems with Airport Extreme?

I have a 5th Gen Airport Extreme (AE) and an all Mac household.  We have iPhones, iPads and MacBooks.  Ever since I got the Extreme, my iPhone 5 will stop responding on the internet.  It still shows as connected, but nothing on the internet responds.  The immediate solution is to turn wifi on and off on the phone and everything immediately starts working again.
I believe it's started happening on the iPad 3 as well, but it's hard to tell if I'm just resetting it due to paranoia on unresponsive sites.  The AE is set to WPA2 Personal only, and both the 2 & 5ghz radios are set to automatic.  Also it's a/b/g/n (Automatic).
I've tried restarting everything multiple times, reset the AE from scratch, and done "Reset Network Settings" on the phone.  Nothing has been able to fix it permanently.
The irony is that I switched to the AE after a number of cheap wifi routers that didn't keep a signal.  Now I never lose the signal but it refuses to actually show evidence of routing the packets.
Any and all help is much appreciated!

I have gone through 5 iPhone 5 replacements and nothing has helped with this issue.  I just keep taking it back hoping for a good replacement. I finally got the attention of a district manager because of the amount of replacements I have had.  Also, don't believe the Geniuses. They tried to say I had my AE 5th Gen setup wrong when I followed Apple's recommended settings.  Then when I showed them the page, they said I was showing them a fake website.  It was the Apple Support page.  ***?!?

  • HP Deskjet F380 problem printing with airport extreme

Have tried everything under the sun from the apple and HP support websites and cannot get my printer to work wirelessly. When I try to add my printer, I get error message "-9672". Any other suggestions. Already spent 90 minutes on HP support and they gave me "their best effort", meaning they didn't think they could really help with outside products. Thanks.

Hello jds17. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Unfortunately, not all USB printers are compatible with AirPort base stations.
Take a look at one of these iFelix Unofficial AirPort Printer Compatibility links, depending on which AirPort base station you have:
o 802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) or AirPort Express Base Station (AX)
o 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn)
If your printer isn't listed, it doesn't necessarily mean it won't work, but simply that it has not been verified. iFelix also provides the following workaround for printers not on the list that would certainly be worth a try.
Also, you may find the following Apple article helpful.

  • HP 1320 Printer with Airport Extreme Problem Solved with Leopard

This may be of interest. I appear to have solved my printing problems using an Airport Extreme with an HP 1320 printer.
It appears that all of the options for the printer must be specified. These options include the "Fit to Page" option in Print&Fax/Options&Supplies/Driver; the "Media Type" in Print/Finishing; the "Printer Resolution", "Resolution Enhancement", and "HPEconoMode" all in Print/Image Quality. If all of these are specified, the printer will print without user intervention.
    Hope this helps,
    David

There are no specific settings on the Apple router to allow a PC to connect. It broadcasts the same signal for all.
Have you checked the Windows firewall on the PCs to see if that, or possibly the anti-virus software is blocking the attempted connection?
I've had both XP and Vista machines, and in each case I had to go into the Firewall settings to tell the application to "allow" the connection that was being blocked. No problems at all after that. Not sure if this is your issue or not, but it would be the first place I would look.

  • Wireless Printing with Airport Extreme just stopped

Strangely, it is not working on one of my 3 computers only! Was working with all 3, today it would not print from my iMac with Intel 2.33 GHz.
No problem recognizing the printer. When I print the printer comes on, the printer head moves normally but a blank page comes out.
I have tried all the suggestions from Apple under the heading "Top Searches", subheading "Aiport Extreme/Express wireless printing" and I have also repaired disk permissions but nothing has changed.
Why would wireless printing work in an older computer and not a newer one? I have all the latest updates in BOTH the iMac and my Power Book so I can't blame a Security Update etc.
    What now?
iMac Intel 2.33 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   Power Book G4, HP PSC 2410 All-in-one
iMac Intel 2.33 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   Power Book G4, HP PSC 2410 All-in-one

The exact problem for me. I also have checked all me settings, they seem to be
the way they should, but I can not get to print whatever.

  • Printing with Airport Extreme

I just set up Airport Extreme last night. I have my printer plugged in via ethernet. I was able to print last night from the mac book air and the desktop. Unable to print from my PC laptop for work though. Then, this morning, I can't print from anywhere. I am not sure where to begin. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Since the printer is connected via Ethernet, then you could try 'pinging' the printer to make sure it is alive on the network.
Open Applications > Utilities > Network Utility and select the Ping tab. Enter the IP address of the printer and set the number of pings to send to 4. Now click Ping and see if you get a response.
If you are not sure of the printers IP address, you can look at the printer queue you created previously. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax and select the printer in the list. Click Options and Supplies and select the General tab. Next to the entry URL: will be the IP address or network name of the printer. You can use this in the Ping section.
If you get no response, then make sure the printer is not in sleep mode (energy saver). I've seen some brands of printers fail to wake to a network ping.
Also, check the IP addresses of the Mac's and printer are set to the same subnet. If the Airport is allocating addresses this should be okay, but if one device is set to a static IP then you can get conflicts or failed connections, which may be the case with your laptop.

  • Printing with Airport Extreme using PC

I have an airport extreme network with an Macbook and two windows PC's connected to it wirelessly. I can access the internet with all three, but can only print wireless with the Macbook. I've installed Bon Jour on both the PC's but they still will not print. The printer is an HP L7680 if that means anything. The two PC's are an HP and a Dell, one running XP and the other running Visa. When I contacted Apple Support they said it was printer problem and I would have to contact HP. HP tells me it's a Microsoft Driver issue and to contact Microsoft. Microsoft won't respond with an answer and I have no idea where to look for a driver that I would need to download to get the PC's to print wireless.
Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.

I've had a similar problem and no thanks to apple tech support found a solution using hints from various apple discussions

  • Printing With Airport Extreme - Results thru PCs Better than thru Macs

I don't get it. My Airport Extreme works beautifully when printing from the Windows XP desktop connected thru it by a LAN or from the Windows Vista laptop connected wirelessly.
However, when I try to print from either my my MacBook Pro or Mac Mini (both wireless connections), I get poor results - only partial letters and images.
Other Airport functionality works great on all machines. For example, I can save to an external hard drive equally well using any of the machines mentioned above. Printing is the only problem.
    Any idea what's going on?

We have the same problem. We print from Windows XP, two G4s and a G5 with no problem utilizing all the printers features. The MacBook Pro cannot print a job which has been in queue. One at a time, ok. And, it will not support duplex mode. All the other computers use the old printer driver, the Pro uses a OS X generic driver. It resists any attempt to install the old driver. Among other things, it makes me crazy to have the latest Mac incapable while the PowerPC machines and Windows (sigh...) hum right along.
So I agree, I think it is a driver problem.

  • Can't print with Airport Extreme and Canon MP610

Can anyone suggest a way around this?
I am unable to print using my new Canon MP610 multifunction printer when connected via my Airport Extreme, but I can print when connecting the printer to my computer directly, not using the Airport Extreme. After several hours of frustration, updating drivers and firmware, etc, I contacted Canon and received an email back stating:
    "MP610 is not supported by
Canon with a wireless connection through an Apple Airport. This does
not necessarily mean that it will not work, but we are not able to
    provide configuration and troubleshooting information."
Last summer, my daughter was able to use the same Extreme to print wirelessly using her Mac Book Pro and her Canon MP600 multifunction printer (note - different printer model).
Sounds like Canon isn't saying it won't work, but they cant' help.
If anyone can offer a suggestion to work around this, I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Doug

The most comprehensive set of troubleshooting instructions for printing problems involving Airport printers is found at:

It is possible your printer simply cannot be made to work in this manner, and is more often than not a problem with multifunction printers.

  • Windows Vista can't log onto wifi network with Airport Extreme

Several problems with our network. 1. My sister's new Gateway laptop sees the network I set up from my Mac using my airport extreme, but cannot log on to it even when I removed password/encryption - even when I entered 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 in my DNS server fields. 2. the reason I even did the above is because although my Mac (Titanium G4 Powerbook previously running 10.2.8) could get on the network through the airport, I could not get to any site Google related until I read about the DNS entries as a work around. Yes the work around works but what's the real problem/fix? Regarding probem 1., some advice I'd gotten was to update the firmware on my base station as it might be a compatability issue with that and Vista. I begrudgingly upgraded to Tiger 10.4.6 then downloaded the patch to 10.4.10 (where I am now) which did lead me to an upgrade for my airport (5.3 to 5.6 now). Still, Windows cannot get on to the unsecure network!! What the heck do I need to do?!

I hope I may have found how to make the vista machines get to your Time Capsule. On the vista system go to network and sharing center. Then click on status, then you will see a window pop up with wireless network info. Click on Wireless properties and then click the advance tab at the bottom, a box without a check mark needs to be checked which says "connect if not broadcasting". I hope I got that right...try it, it's seemed to help for today at least.
