Wifi problems on Macbook since installing update

My Macbook can no longer connect to my wireless network at home ever since I installed a software update (NOT Snow Leopard!) at the weekend. It worked fine until I installed the automatic update, which included an Airport Update & Security Update.
It now recognises the wireless network and asks for the WPA password but each time it tries to connect I get a "connection timeout" message. The password is definitely correct and as far as I know I haven't changed any settings.
It doesn't seem to be able to get an IP address, and creates a self-assigned IP.
All other computers in the house (PCs) and 3 iPhones are having no problems connecting to the wireless network, and the Macbook works when connected via ethernet cable.
I have tried the following to resolve the problem
1. Restart router
2. Renew DHCP (doesn't work)
3. Pretty much everything else that you can do through Network Diagnostics/System Preferences
4. Reset PRAM
5. Reset all network settings, deleted existing networks and re-added them.
It's definitely NOT a hardware problem as the wi-fi worked fine on my friends non-secure network and in the Apple store.
I really want to figure out a way to undo this upgrade, but the Apple Genius at the store said that there was no need (annoyingly everything worked fine in store).
My router is a Belkin 54g which is set up through my boyfriend's computer.
If anyone can help I would be eternally grateful, I can't get any of my work done from home unless I am sitting right next to the router as our ethernet cable is only a couple of feet long!
I have seen lots of other posts on a similar topic but none that have provided me with a solution yet.

Please test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
Step 1
Take the applicable steps in this support article. The Wireless Diagnostics program generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
Step 2
Disconnect all USB 3 devices. If you don't know which are USB 3, disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse.
Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. If you find that Wi-Fi works better with Bluetooth disabled, you should use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band. Your router may not support it; in that case, you need a new router.
Step 4
Open the Network pane in System Preferences and make a note of your settings in the Wi-Fi service. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the various tabs in the preference pane. If the preference pane is locked, unlock it by clicking the padlock icon and entering your administrator password. Delete Wi-Fi from the service list on the left by selecting it and clicking the minus-sign button at the bottom. Then recreate the service by clicking the plus-sign button and following the prompts.
Step 5
Reset the System Management Controller.
Step 6
Reset the PRAM.
Step 7
Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
Step 8
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

  • Cannot backup to external drive since installing updates for Lion.

Since installing updates to Lion os, my external 2TB western digital drive now cannot backup and disc utility cannot repair.
I apparently now need to reformat the external drive but first must back up the files on the external drive or they will be erased.
Does this now mean that I have to buy a second external drive and transfer all the files (one and a half TB's worth) on the existing external drive to the new external drive and then reformat the old drive and then transfer the files back onto the old drive?
Why do software updates for os cause problems with external backup drives?
I thought the whole point of updates was to keep the system running smoothly and not create havoc.

if you backup to the device it should not matter if the backup is erased as long as your main hd don't explode before you can back it up to the external hd once more after it have been formatted
if the hd is empty timemachine does a 100% full backup of everything on the hd to the ext hd

  • My problem is that since I update my iphone 4s ios 8 and then restore it and when I connect to itunes does not sync my music only applications

my problem is that since I update my iphone 4s ios 8 and then restore it and when I connect to itunes does not sync my music only applications

I had a similar issue and I was told that my iTunes match was on.
I had to disable iTunes match on my iPhone.
Following which - after you plugged in your iPhone to iTunes, select your iPhone on iTunes menu. You should see a summary page of your iPhone where it provides options to update or restore. On the bottom there should be an option to select "sync only selected music/playlists". I can't remember the exact wording. Once that's been checked, select your iPhone's music tab and it should allow you to select the music playlists you want to sync.

  • Problem with MacBook Pro Software Update 1.1

I've installed the MacBook Pro Software Update 1.1 on my 17" MacBook Pro. Seems to have fixed any keyboard issues I may have been experiencing. But every time I run software update this particular update wants to be installed again. I've run the install three times and it's still being flagged as being needed.
    Anyone else having this problem?
Only thing that I suspect is that it's because I've got my HD formatted as case-sensitive. I've noticed that formatting a drive as case-sensitive will break several popular games.
Can't we standardize on case-sensitive volumes yet, it's the 21st century for crying out loud!

    I had the same issue.
How did you figure this out?
I was on the phone for almost two hours (mostly waiting) with support and they simply came up with 'Archive' and 'Store' and 'Rebuild' your system, which quite frankly would not have fixed this issue because I still would have a case-sensitive drive.

    Thanks in advance

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • HT4623 since installing update my volume & sound are not working correctly

since installing the update 7.0.6 this morning, my volume and sound are not working in music, videos, keypad, and apps

You can't update to iOS 6 on the original iPad, but you might be able to troubleshoot the apps on your iPad. What is not working correctly?

  • Problems while roaming since last update of an iPhone 5

Since last update the phone loses signal intermittently while a regular phone in the same network/account has a steady, strong signal. I've reset network settings and since it didn't work I did a hard reset, erasing and restoring the phone. The problem persists

    Hey Manuel Flores-Arce,
Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like the iPhone is having a service issue while roaming. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.

  • Since installing update on 6/25, printing pdf pages OK, but bank account activity type is too large for the page. How do I shrink the type?

Since installing Firefox v.3.6. 6 update on 6/25, printing bank statements in pdf format is still OK, but when I select the print option for my bank account activity the type is too large for the page. How do I shrink the type? We are running Windows XP.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == I installed Firefox update on 6/25

Firefox doesn't display PDF files all by itself, it uses your PDF reader program which is also what handles the printing of that file type.
As far as the large printed font from Firefox, open File > Page Setup and see what the '''Scale''' is set to. 100% is usually the best setting, but you might need to use a smaller setting.

  • HELP! Problems with MacBook after software updates install.

    Hi Guys,
I have a friend of mine that has a MacBook. After a while without doing the software updates she connected her MacBook on the internet and there was a lot of software updates to do, so she went on and install everything. She describes me that the problem was with Tiger 10.4.11, it pop up a "Warning Sign - Error" and freezes she says.
She re-start the computer and It get stuck on the gray window with the Apple with the lil circle spinning endless.
Is there any tip or something that I can help her?...
    [Sorry about my english... lol)

    Hello coreanomac!
The following Apple Support article is good for working through the problem. Based on your explanation of what happened, follow the advice of the "Try a different software update source" and "Installation fails during 'optimization'" paragraphs of the "Troubleshooting an unsuccessful installation" section:
Mac OS X: Troubleshooting installation and software updates
Also reading the "Before Installing" section may be useful, as well.

  • Wifi problems on Macbook after Yosemite upgrade

I am having very serious problems with wifi connectivity of my Macbook Pro Retina after upgrading for OS X 10.10 by the end of October .
Of course this has a great impact on system usability since almost exclusively use wifi to connect to the network.
I must say I never expected that in Apple world a problem of this magnitude take so long to solve!
After trying various proposed solutions without result, two weeks ago in a user forum I found a simple turn around that effectively minimizes the problem on my Macbook.
Deactivating Bluetooth Wifi connectivity becomes less unstable and can work continuously with the networked PC. There continues to be an abnormally high rate of errors affecting eg Time Machine but the wifi connection does not drop.
It's a little ridiculous I can not use my Magic Mouse but it is less problematic that not to have Network!
But someone can direct me to a date that provides for the effective resolution of this problem by Apple? Or at least that the problem has been recognized and is being done something to fix it?
My system is yet under warrant. Should I activate the warranty and ask for the replacement of the Macbook? From what I've read not all users have this problem with Yosemite.
Can someone please explain to me the reasons why I have the problem and others with theoretically equal machines do not have it (it that is the case)?
    Thanks in advance,
    Fernando Ribeiro

I installed last OS X update, 10.10.3, and the problem is completely solved.
The problem, Wifi+Bluetooth, is clearly addressed on the update notes.
Now I am working with Magic Mouse, Bluetooth, while navigating on the Internet via Wifi.
    Thanks

  • 10.5.8 wifi problems even when plugged. Update won't run.

    I have a late 2008 13" macbook.
The wifi connection does not work properly since the upgrade to 10.5.8
In my case, it doesn't even work when the AC adapter is plugged in.
Sometimes (just sometimes) wifi works for about 2 minutes right after booting or being connected with ehternet. Most of the time, ping to router returns "no route to host" or ~12000ms with 60% packet loss.
I have tried all the fixes suggested on the web, and downloaded the package apple just released (it didn't appear on software update). It said it was not for my hardware.
I also tried using pacifist to force the install of the update, but didn't help.
I hope this helps to identify the problem.

    *raises hand*
    Another instance here...
MacBook 5,1 (Al Late 2008 2Ghz) - after the 10.5.8 update I had this issue as well. Airport could not connect to my wireless router even though the menubar airport icon showed a good signal and my wireless network name appeared below. I received the "internet unavailable" message and could not even bring up my router's management webpage using it's ip address. I also received the "self-assigned airport ip address text" as the previous poster mentioned. This occurred both on the battery and plugged in.
I attempted the 10.5.7 airport kexts switcheroo suggested by others but could not get them to install properly. Finally, I reinstalled via my original install disks (with 10.5.5) and used a saved copy of the 10.5.7 combo updater to get back to a 10.5.7 system. Airport now works properly again.
Like the others above, my MacBook will not take the Airport Updater as it is not in the proper hardware range. Also, the latest security update (the DNS one) will not install either, presumably because it requires 10.5.8.
Suggestions? (besides keep working on this please, Apple!)

  • Wifi problems. Macbook Air 2012

    Hi!
I have no problem connecting to my internet at home, but everytime, if my computer goes to "sleep", or if I pull the screen down, I am no longer connected to the internet. The problem is that it will not connect automatic. If I bring this computer to some friends, it will recognize the internet, and connect automatic.
I dont think it has anything to do with my internet, cause both my Iphone and Ipad recognize the internet.
    Best Regards

         O
I had the excact same issue, I have now restored to OSX 10.8.1 rather than update to 10.8.2? downside is I cannot use iPhoto because it requires 10.8.2 to install
Strange thing is when i updated to 10.8.2 and logged in as a guest user i had no internet problems, but as soon as I switched back to my account login the wifi issues came back?
I even spent 2 hours on the phone to my internet service provider thinking it was my router giving up.
It was only through luck that i picked up on the fact that it didnt cause issues before i updated, but only after the update did the issue raise its head.
Im a loyal apple user,  I also sell apple products through a reseller bar inside the store I work, but im starting to loose faith.
Lets hope this is a bigger issue than just a handful of users, that way apple may get a fix out for this
