Wifi refuses to work

just got my ipad2
it connected to my wifi router - which works with two other laptops.
However the ipad refuses to load any web pages. Without internet this is just a useless counter top.
does anyone know whats going on?
I will have to return this if wifi is inoperable

If the iPad shows a wi-fi icon, like it is connected, but nothing loads in a browser or email, it is not likely actually connected to your wi-fi, but has timed out and assigned itself an IP.
Go to Settings/Wi-Fi. Then look for the network with the checkmark on the left. Tap the arrow on the far right. If it shows an IP starting 169., then it is not really connected, that is a self-assigned IP.
You need to start from scratch. Tell you iPad to forget any networks to which it claims to be connected and then turn wi-fi off. Rest the iPad by pressing & holding the Home and Power buttons together for 10+ seconds, ignoring the red power off slider, until the Apple logo appears. Turn off any other devices connected to your router. Reset your router. As soon as the router comes back online turn on wi-fi on the iPad. As soon as the network appears select it and enter its password. Hopefully the router detects the iPad quickly and assigns it an IP.

  • My wifi has never worked

Hi, so for some reason, my wifi refuses to connect to the server. It's a brand new phone. My router is working correctly, as I can access the net on my computer. I try to load a page, and an applet pops up saying "page cannot be found. cannot connect to server".
This happens no matter what network I choose. Help?

This usually has to do with the security on the wireless router.
A couple of things to try.
If you know how to get into the settings on the router, as a test, try turning security off. Then try connecting with the iphone to see if the issue persists. If the issue does not persist then you know that the security settings on the router need to be changed.
Also, if you have a local hotspot, you can take the iphone there and try to connect. If the portal intro page comes up you made a successful connection and the iphone is working ok.
If you change the security settings on the wireless router, here are a couple of tips.
If you use wep 128 bit encryption, use a 13 char password.
if you use wpa 2 encryption, use an 8 char password.
Also, here is an article from the apple support website that might help out.

  • Curve 9300 Browser refuses to work?!

    Hi guys!
Yet another fault with my BlackBerry 9300, the browser refuses to work, I have full 3G coverage and I am connected to my home wifi with an excellent connection, yet my Blackberry just refuses to connect to any websites, all I get is a message saying Unable to connect to server, have had the problem for a few days, tried the usual battery pull, turned of my network coverage and tried running off my wifi and vice versa yet ive had no luck...
Would be so grateful if someone had a solution, cos i really dont have the time or the energy to contact my network provider..
    Thanks

    Hi there!
I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
    2) Delete and Resend Service Books
KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should contact your wireless service provider for formal support.
    Good luck!

  • Haven't used iTunes in months...WiFi won't work on Iphone...HELP!

Back in late March 2013, iTunes lost all of my data (apps, music, etc) after a routine update.  I tried to restore but the most recent backup in the iTunes folder was from 2012.  I basically gave up on iTunes altogether and started using wireless on both my iPhone & iPad to download new apps and updates.  This was working just fine, until a couple of months ago.
Now, my iPhone 4S refuses to connect to WiFi anywhere.  I've tried to connect to multiple networks and it simply refuses to work.  Sometimes it's grayed out and other times it just searches forever and finds nothing.  My iPad connects to my home network with no trouble but it seems the iPhone simply doesn't recognize WiFi anymore!
This is a BIG problem because my iPhone is stuck on IOS 6 and is unable to download a possible fix or larger app updates.  I've considered reconnecting to iTunes for that reason, but I'm afraid to lose all of my data (settings, contacts, apps, music, etc) if I do so.
Before I go to an Apple specialist and fork out some money for a fix, I've come here for any tips and advice you guys could provide.
    Thanks in advance!

This whole process is frustrating - why can't iTunes simply synchronize with my iPhone and rebuild my libary that way?
Regardless I have a few more questions:
    1) Since iTunes on my PC is still linked to my account (even though library is empty) will all of my iTunes purchases and apps show back up after sync?
    2) Seeing as all my music is on my PC, should I simply painstakingly rebuild my Playlists AGAIN?  I really wish I didn't have to do this part in particular since, I manually added most of the individual song data.
    3) For future reference, what is the best way to back this up because clearly iTunes itself isn't capable of doing so.
    Thanks again guys.

  • Iphone 6 plus wifi connection not working

I don't know what the deal is but, I'm getting notifications of emails, and messages but when I go to the app I have nothing there. The problem has expanded and now apps aren't connecting to any wifi. I thought it might have been 3rd party apps, but now even the app store cannot connect. I've tried my home wifi, and my work wifi. Using my data plan, I have no problems connecting to anything. I'm thinking this is an IOS8 issue that needs a patch. If somebody has any other suggestions, I'm all ears!

I have always used the iPhone's LED flashing alert to notify me when I get a call or text message. While I was on iOS 8 Beta 2-4 it was working fine. I did a clean install of the complete iOS 8 release and ever since then, the flash alert doesn't work.
Sometimes it will work on incoming calls, but will not work on text messages. I've tried soft/hard rebooting, clean wipe and fresh installs, and pretty much anything in between. Now, today I got my 128GB Gold ATT iPhone 6 Plus, and it's the same thing. Updated to iOS 8.1, reset everything/deleted all contents and settings. Both fresh install, and iCloud backups and still no alerts on text messages, but now I get them on calls. I tried my girls ATT 128GB iPhone 6 and she has the same problem too. My old phone was a 64GB iPhone 5S and hers was a 32GB iPhone 5. Everything was good until the official release of iOS 8.
I've tried searching for related issues, and haven't found anything since 2011 with a quick Google search. Most links just tell you how to turn the flash alert on but no new issues. All of my devices are on iOS 8.1.  I gave my father my 64GB 5S with a clean install and he still has the issue as well. So, that makes my iPhone 6 Plus, my girls iPhone 6 and my fathers iPhone 5S not flashing LED on messages and sometimes calls. There aren't any custom vibrations enabled on any if the devices. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is it a known bug or am I just not doing something right here? i never had an issue before the iOS 8 release. Any help would be appreciated.

Take it to Apple for evaluation and a replacement.

  • For the second time (I've been to the Genius Bar once already) my WiFi isn't working on my iPhone 4S. This is really infuriating and costly!!! I see others have the same issues.  Can't Apple do anything about this?  It's obviously a hardware problem!

For the second time (I've been to the Genius Bar already once with this) my Wifi isn't working.  They gave me a new iphone last time, but the new one has the same issue as the old one, I'm guessing.  I've tried resetting the network but that doesn't work.
I see others have this issue too.
If this is a hardware problem why doesn't Apple fix it?  Or do I just have to wait another year for another upgrade?
Currently it's not costing me anything - yet - because I've got the Apple Warranty but this is totally frustating!!! I bought the original phone (which has been replaced in July 2012.  The new phone (without working Wifi) is a month old.
Will try Restore via ITunes before (I will invariably) have to return to the Genius Bar for another Iphone 4S unless someone has an ingenius solution here?..?

For what reason, other than making yourself look foolish, would you ask questions that we users could not possibly answer as we're NOT Apple?
Basics from the manual are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as NEW.  Nothing more "ingenius" to suggest than these steps that Apple has outlined in the manual.  If these steps don't work, then go back to the Apple store.

    Hi @meghanath ,
    Thank you for your query.
I grasp that after installing he Mediatek wireless  driver, when you try to connect to your network you get the prompt to input your network password but does not accept it.
It is your router that is not accepting the password.  Do you have firewall on the router?

i am setting u a new time capsule. i already have a wifi setup in my office. now i want to use this time capsule just as a wireless backup machine. do i still need to attached a DSL cable, or it can connect to my existing wifi and start working ?

You probably can, but this type of configuration is not recommended or supported by Apple.
Two cautions if you want to try this:
    1)  The Time Capsule has to be configured to "Join" your existing wireless network in this type of setup...and to do that, you must know the exact type of wireless security that your network is using.
    2)  Backups are likely going to take twice as long. The wireless signal must travel from your computer to the wireless router and then from the wireless router back to the Time Capsule.  Two "hops"......even if the computer is located close to the Time Capsule.
If you want to try this, we can tell you how....but with no guarantees on your results....since this is not officially supported.

  • Installed 10.8.4 and now my wifi refuses to connect to any WPA2 network!

Installed 10.8.4 update yesterday in the office. After restart my wifi refused to connect to the network although it was connecting to it fine before the update. Used ethernet and downloaded the Combo update. No improvement. It connects to the public wifi but not to the WPA2. Went home and opened my MBA and found that it does not connect to my peronal WPA2! Removed security from my Guest network and it connects fine. Put the WPA2 back, and it refuses to connect. Any ideas?

seems the problem is that the 10.8.4 didn't install properly. here is the install log:
