  • PLEASE HELP?! I have 13 devices connected to my wifi/router

If noted lately that only getting two or three bars for wifi, and videos take forever to load. So I logged into our wif/router and there's 13 devices logged on! We should only have 4 phones 2 iPads and one computer. How do I remove them? I already changed my user name and Password, but that didn't kick anyone off. All our phones are still on there. I've been doing this past few days trying to figure out what's all the devices. Are my cables boxes hooked up to my wifi router? Even then that leaves a few more androids (we don't own one) on my wifi. I would like to kick the freeloaders off and secure it!
Thank you for helping in advance?

You need to resecure your router.
Using an Ethernet cable connect to your router at 192.168.1.1
    1.  Turn of the Wifi in the settings until you have finished making changes.  This will prevent someone from spying on you during the process.    Also unplug any Ethernet cables plugged into your router except the cable you are connected using.
    2.  Change the admin password for your router to something secure.  At least 10 characters including capital letters, numbers and special symbols.   You will then need to resign back into your router.
    3.  Change the SSID for your WiFi radio.
    4.  Enable WPA2 security.   Use an encryption phrase of at least 12 characters and again with Caps, Numbers and  special characters.
    5.  Turn WiFi back on and reconnect and cables that you disconnected.
Then using the new paraphrase  reconnect your various  wireless devices  to the network.   Tell you kids not  share the paraphrase with friends.
It may take 24 hours for clients to drop off the list of DHCP clients as the router is still reserving an IP for them, but they are not connected.
    A few more advanced things you could do for security;
    1.  Verify that administrative from the WAN is blocked (this is default )
    2.  Set up automatic timers on the router to shut down WiFI radios at night and then turn them back on in the morning.
    3.  I don't remember if WPS can be turned off on the Actiontec but if it can turn it off.
If you still have strange devices logging on then your network has been hacked

  • My Deskjet 3050 J610 will not connect to my Virgin WiFi router for use with Apple Mac laptop.

I live in the UK and have Broadband access via a Virgin connection and WiFi router. My Apple MacBook laptop connects to the WiFi with no difficulties. However I have an HP Deskjet 3050 J610 printer which will not connect to the router. When I try to connect, the blue light just keeps on flashing but a connection is not found. Consequently my MacBook cannot "see" the printer on the network. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    See if this helps.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Push notifications and GPS not working on wifi - please help

    Hi,
I have an iPhone 4 with at&t (US) and latest iOS. but I am outside the US for a month and I have put the phone in airplane mode so that I don't receive phone calls or texts (I can choose not to answer phone calls but apparently I will receive the texts no matter what unless I put it in airplane mode)
But I still use the iphone for everything else. I have the wi-fi on and I have my own wi-fi network where I'm staying.
    but i'm having problems:
    1. I do not get any push notifications on my iphone. I have not modified much from the default wifi router settings. all i have done is set a WPA TKIP password. all the other settings are the default. no port filter or firewalls on the router as far as i can see.
    2. google maps is not able to pinpoint my location. I can see the maps fine. but when i hit the button to locate my position, it tries for a while and then says "cannot determine location".
    3. after a while with the iphone in 'sleep mode' (i.e. the screen is off - the phone is not off), when I turn the screen back on and try the use the iphone with the wifi, the internet no longer works although it shows that it is connected to the wifi network. then I have to go to the settings on my iphone for the wifi network and hit 'renew lease' for the internet to work again on my iphone. this is really annoying....
.. and *I do not have any of these problems when I'm on anyone else's wifi network*. so, I'm guessing this has something to do with my personal wifi connection at home.
can someone help me figure this out?
the wi-fi router is an Aztech HW550-3G. and the broadband connection is from a WiMax internet modem.
here are some of the screens from the wifi config page

    thanks!
    Julian.

Your problem is there is no record of where your base station is. Since you have airplane mode on your phone cannot use the gps receiver or the mobile network to pinpoint the location. For the location of the base station to be known it needs to be recorded in a database on the internet.
Instead of turning on airplane mode, remove the SIM from the iPhone. With airplane off and no SIM you will be able to use GPS but not make or receive phone calls and text. It may also update the location database with your base station location, but I cannot confirm it.

  • Connecting T5 to Netgear WiFi router

I have been trying to connect my T5 using the Palm WiFi card to my Netgear DG834G ADSL WiFi router and have read the very helpful check list provided on your site as well as the other correspondence. I started with the usual problem of the thing disconnecting after trying to download the IP and worked up to manual entry of IPs and DNSs etc.
    So far I have :-
Found the T5 MAC and entered it as a trusted device in the router.
From the router itself I have found :-
The two DNS values (these are for the ADSL port?)
The hex 128 bit Key (all 4 are the same) and checked it against a separate key generator using the phrase I entered when I set the router up with the P.C.
The following IP address information:- For the ADSL port:- the IP address and it’s mask, network type (PPPoa), the IP address for the gateway and the two DNS values. I have also found the IP address for the router LAN port.
Loading these in various combinations into the T5 setup in manual causes the unit to seem to log on and display the field strength. But Blazer etc does not work. If I change the WEP key to make it wrong it logs on in the same way, which is very suspicious!
I have managed to get the T5 to download the IP address in auto (after setting it as a trusted device in the router) by switching to ad-hoc and it returns a message saying that it has "connected". Checking the network "info" in prefs/WiFi then shows an IP not found in the router information with it’s mask. However, no DNS info or IP address in the line called "Router" shows up and although the response from Blazer is different (quick connect and URL rejection), nothing works. Manually entering the DNSs with auto IP recovery in ad-hac did not change anything.
I have been through entering the WEP key in hex etc.
Of all the IP address information available, which ones should be entered in the three fields required on the T5? The DNS values relate to the ADSL port. Is this OK.
I would welcome any suggestions. I have yet to try it at a remote site, but I am sure the basic kit is OK, just finger trouble !!!
    Thanks in advance

Russel, you haven't mentioned if you have the router's comm. speed set to be compatible with an 802.11/b device.
Do you have this setting correct?

  • My Ipod touch ios version 6.1.3 will not allow me to connect to my wifi, Please help me!!

My ipod touch ios version 6.1.3 will not allow me to connect to my wifi. I tried rebooting my wifi router, refreshing my ipod, resseting the networks and manually logging into my wifi. Sometimes it will go through for a brief moment, but the wifi connection will ultimately disconnect. Each time i try to connect to my wifi afterwards a small pop up will say "Unable to join the network". Please help. it's really annoying and frustrating.

Thank you Carolyn Samit, but nothing is working.
I've restored my ipod both to a backup and back to factory. I know the password is correct,
the router is the newest version (and it's plugged in and on), my ipod is updated, i've turned my wifi settings on and off, i've turned the ipod off and on. No luck yet. I've been working on it for hours now. About ready to sleep on it...maybe some luck will find me tomorrow...
Still in need of dire help.

  • After recent updates, my speeds have dropped off. My iTunes pauses and buffers frequently during a song. Apple has kindly replaced my Apple TV, but the problem remains. I have spent big money on the latest WiFi router (Netgear), but no change. What gives?

I am using Apple TV, linked to my computer network via a NetGear WiFi router. After the latest apple updates, it now takes forever to load my library from my computer. Music pauses frequently to buffer before continuing, and pictures take a long time to load. Apple has replaced my apple tv on warranty, but nothing has improved.

  • Connecting fiber modem to wifi router

I am usually pretty savvy with networking but this one really has got me.  I have searched all over teh Intarwebs with no success solving it.  I need the help of my fellow Mac-o-philes.
Basically, here's the issue.  I'm in Mexico, and I want to set up a VPN (specifically HideMyAss, HMA) so that I can use my Roku and generally stream things from the United States.
TELMEX has given me a Alcatel-Lucent I-240w-q router which connects to the fiber line they have run to my house.
Separately, I bought a ASUS RT-N16 wifi router because that is the one that HMA says can be programmed to be the central "tunnel" into their VPN.  I upgraded the RT-N16 firmware to DD-WRT's most recent build.
I have access to the config sections of both routers so I can modify their settings at will.
So what I need to do is connect the Alcatel router to the Asus router in such a way as I can use the Asus router as the primary access to the Internet (I wanted to set this up BEFORE I get the HMA subscription so that I could confirm it worked before I shell out for HMA).
I would deeply appreciate any assistance at all in setting things up so it goes through.

    Really, nobody?

  • How to move Wifi Router

Hello, I am wondering how to move my M1424WR Wifi router. It does not reach some places of my house because the Verizon man who installed it put it in a corner in my basement. It uses a power cord and a coax cord which connects to a splitter. Then the splitter connects to the Verizon white box. I was wondering if I was to move it to a better location where to plug the COAX cord into.
Any help would be very appreciated, thanks.

You can connect to any COAX that comes from your ONT.   If you have FiOS TV you can use a splitter and connect there.  Or run an additional COAX from an existing line to where you want your router.

  • I´ve problem to set up a 2. WIFI Router

    Hi togehter
I´m a custumer from Verizon Vios and I´ve the Verizon 9100EM router.  So far so fine :-)
I live in one condo and I need a second WIFI router because I need a stronger WIFI signal. I buy allready one Netgear router WGR614 v8 and I install allready the newest FW V1.1.24_14.0.43NA on my Netgear router, but my Netgear router and the Verizon router don´t work together... The Netgear router have allready the WDS feature.
I´m not really a network specialist and I need your help. Need I a diverent rounter, or have I to change somethink on the settimgs?
Thank you very much for your help. I appreciate that really :-)
    Juergen

The Verizon FIOS Router will work with your Netgear Router.
It can be configured many different ways, here is one way:
Configure Netgear to use a Static address of 192.168.1.2 so that it will not conflict with the Verizon Route on 192.168.1.1
    Disable DHCP Server on Netgear
    Disable Wireless on Verizon Router
Connect Lan Port 1 of Verizon Router to Lan Port 1 of the Netgear
This will make your Netgear Router operate like a switch and wireless access point.  All of the Routing, Firewall, and DHCP will be handled by the Verizon Router.

  • WiFi Extender Help :)

Okay, well I bought a new Netgear WiFi router on Black Friday because I was told that's one of the best ones Best Buy carries. Well, it's in my basement and my X-Box is in my room and so the X-Box doesn't get full WiFi coverage and my online isn't the best. So I'm looking for some WiFi repeaters (bought online only) so I can place it upstairs so the signal of WiFi goes to my room at a stronger rate. However, I need some help with which one I should buy. Any suggestions? I've looked through a few, but I'm totally confused! I bought my Netgear for around $65, how can a WiFi Repeater cost more than the router?! Help, please!

Sorry for replying so late, this forums thing is stupid and wouldn't let me log in and I tried getting an e-mail to change password but Best Buy never sent one, but somehow I was logged in when I just now got on. Anyway, the router I got was a new one, actually, on sale for $65, and it does good, I just want something better. Also, the X-Box I have is the first Elite, 120GB (they now don't make 120's only 240's) so I had to buy the $100 WiFi thing you plug into it. But going on about WiFi Repeaters, I'm puzzled on what to buy! There's a Netgear one that's like $80...a Linksys for about $30 and a different one for about $60. I read the descriptions and they all talk about plugging into a computer...but a WiFi repeater isn't suppose to do that. They plug into the wall, connect your computer's signal and transmit it even further which is what I want. So I need major help with this! Please.
