Wifi seems to be freezing iphone on wake?

I seem to have narrowed down what might be causing my iPhone to freeze for a few seconds (probably 5 to 10) when I wake it up. I think it has something to do with my wifi connection. Here's what I think is happening, and if ANYONE is having this issue and found a fix please jump in. Thanks in advanced!
I never have my phone freeze on me through the day. However, when I come home, it seems to, after a while, start freezing when I wake it. The slider bar will pause, or sometimes when a call comes in or even had it freeze after the phone goes to the Home page.
I can turn the wifi on and the off and it will sleep and wake find for a while. I can also turn the Airplane mode on and off and the same thing...works for a bit and then goes back to freezing.
So my thoughts are that something with the wifi or connection is causing the phone to freeze. I've had the phone since the week they came out and it only started doing this about 2 to 3 weeks ago.
I've restarted and reset numerous times but still it will freeze up again ONLY when I'm at home. Otherwise I have NO issues.
Any suggestions or fixes? Could it be something in the phones cache that has gone currupt with my wifi. I haven't been able to try other wifi connections yet to see if the same thing happens outside of my home.
Thanks everyone!
Jenny

Here is a quick update to my issue. It seems that after testing the phone it IS something to do with the wifi. I don't know if it's the within the phone or if it something with my own network. But if I turn OFF my phone wifi and never allow it to connect at home the phone NEVER freezes. If I turn it on and connect...within an hour or less the phone will begin to freeze when waking it up or getting a call, etc. So I guess the next step is to test it using someone else's wifi or Starbucks or something. If it turns out NOT to happen there and only at home then I guess it's something with my personal network.
More later. Hope this helps someone who might be having the same issue.
Thanks
Jen

My iPad Air always freezes during FaceTime calls using wifi. I switch to my iPhone 5c on the same wifi, and it never freezes while I'm sitting in the same location. Is there maybe a setting I have that is causes this? I am up to date on the OS 7.1.1. Video and audio is froze on my end, only video freezes on the other end. It doesn't make a difference who makes the call either.

No, there isn't any setting that you are missing. Have you tried force closing FaceTime, and resetting your iPad?
In order to close FaceTime, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that does not make a difference, you could try resetting all settings, if you reset all settings you will have to enter all of the device preferences again in the settings app. That takes some time to accomplish, but you will not lose my data, media, apps or anything like that. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings.
If that doesn't help, the next step would be to restore the iOS software. Backup your iPad first, restore the iOS, then restore the backup.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

  • Does iOS 8 fix the wifi 'grayed out' bug in iPhone 4S?

    Hi.
I have an iPhone 4S which is running iOS 7.1.2 . Apparently, the wifi was working before upgrading to ios 7.1.2 (from ios 6.1.3). The wifi option is 'Grayed out" in the Settings app and my Mac address is seen as 'N/A' . There are so many 'fixes' for it two of which are temporary (freezer fix and blow dryer fix) It's a really big inconvenience to not have a wifi connection especially when downloading some big files. For those who have used iOS 8 on their iphone 4S (developers et al) does the new and improved iOS version fix this bug? It's nerve racking because I dont know how to save SHSH blobs meaning I cant downgrade from iOS 7.1.2 to iOS 6.1.3 just to get my wifi working. My best bet right now is that iOS 8 will have a fix for this problem. Buying another iPhone is not an option for me right now as my cash is tied up in some projects. Please help.

    Ok guys,
I don't know if these helps but I'm going to describe what happened to me with these, first I must say I have an iphone 4S which when bought, the wifi was working fine. The Wifi grayed issue started happening right after I updated IOS version 7.1.1 to 7.1.2. At first I noticed the phone was becoming slow as **** and that my phone won't connect to any Wifis, so I switched my wifi off and my phone became fast again. If I happened to turn the wifi on again my iphone would just become slow again.
I went an try to look up the issue solution on internet forums and apple support page but noone seems to have definitive solution. Now I read the hairdryer and freezer method, but I don't trust it since, as apple points out, might lead to hardware damage but it kinda make sense to me that something might be wrong with the wifi chip. I read in another forum that if I just erase or restore (I can't quite remember right now the right name) the network configuration it might solve the problem, but it seems it doesn't work either.
I ran out of options and just waited for IOS 8 to come out and correct the problem, but it didn't. So I came to the conclusion that this is in no way, a hardware problem unless update 7.1.2 just damage hundreds or perhaps thousands of iphone 4S, which I think is rubbish. This is without a question a software issue, might be some software incompatibility with the iphone 4s wifi chip.
So to summarize all of these, what happened to me was:
    1) iphone 4S is version 7.1.1 - WiFi works OK
    2) Iphone 4S updates to version 7.1.2 - Wifi no longer works
    3) Iphone 4S updates to version 8.0 - Wifi still doesn't work
I tried the following to solve the issue:
    1) Reboot the device - Fail
    2) Restore Network configuration - Fail (grayes out the wifi)
    3) Update to IOS 8.0 - Fail
    4) Turn on Airplane mode and after 20 seconds off - (ungrayes the wifi but still cannot connect to any wifi)
What I am currently experiencing with IOS 8.0 (it happened also with 7.1.2)
    1) Trying to open "Settings" if wifi is on - it is slow 70% of the time
    2) Trying to open "Settings" if wifi is off - Opens up normally
    3) Trying to open "Settings>Wifi" if wifi is on - opens awfully slow and no wifi is listed
    4) Trying to open "Settings>Wifi" if wifi is off - opens up normally
I hope these helps you apple guys, please fix this issue as my iphone is spending my data plan since I cannot longer use WiFi.

  • My wife and i have an iPhone 5 6.1.2 firmware.. We both are having horrible wifi signals.  We have done everything we can.. What update will fix this? I get full bars on my iPad 2 through my whole house.. Be standing right beside the router with iPhone NO

My wife and i have an iPhone 5 6.1.2 firmware.. We both are having horrible wifi signals.  We have done everything we can.. What update will fix this? I get full bars on my iPad 2 through my whole house.. Be standing right beside the router with iPhones and it cuts in and out.. Drops from 3 wifi bars to 1

I am having the same problem with brand new Ipad Mini at my house.
It connects to the WiFi fine - but will not pull an IP address in DHCP mode, or if I set all the IP info statically - it still will not get any network access.
This doesn't look like a WiFi issue, as it does connect and is seen by the WiFi Access Point.  All the normal WiFi fix stuff doesn't help.
    - Using a Dlink DAP-2553 which is less than 2 months old.
Other devices connect fine, including Ipad 2.
This same Mini worked fine at another house and also connected to a mobile hotspot fine....so seems to be some weird IP issue with maybe this Access Point or maybe the older Router that I have (older Netgear)?
I am actually a network engineer and still have not been able to find a solution.  Both the Ipad Mini and the Dlink WAP have the latest firmware loaded.
Wondering if anyone has found a solution to this problem.

  • ICloud accounts (mine and my wife) seem to have merged

I upgraded my phone, and gave my wife the hand-me-down iPhone 5S. But under my iCloud settings, the old phone 5S (and the iPhone 5 prior, even) still show up as being signed in under my iCloud.
Now it seems that the two iCloud accounts have become co-mingled, with her contacts showing up on my list, and when I delete them from my Contact list, they disappear (to her dismay) from her devices. Also, her emails show up on my iPad, if I just click "iCloud" for the account. I can wean it down to just my email if I click on my specific email address on the left sidebar. But I don't like the tally saying I have 4,683 emails, when really it is much less.
I cannot find a way to regain the separation of our two accounts, to delete the no longer used devices from my iCloud settings, or keep our mail/contacts separate.

    Hi Gibbyky2,
It sounds like your Wife's phone number may be associated with your Apple ID. Please refer to the following article:
iOS 6 and OS X Mountain Lion: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5538
How to unlink a phone number
To remove a phone number from an Apple ID, sign out of FaceTime and Messages on your iPhone. Sign out in the following locations:
    - Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
    - Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
This should remove your phone number from other devices using the same Apple ID with FaceTime and Messages.
If the phone number is still available on other devices after you sign out of FaceTime and iMessage on the iPhone, you may need to sign out of iMessage and FaceTime on all your devices, then sign in to FaceTime and Messages again on devices you want to use.
Note: If you no longer have access to the iPhone that is using the number you want to remove, reset your Apple ID password.
Furthermore, the following resource will provide more information about using iMessage on iOS.

  • TS1398 Updated to ios6 now lost all wifi connection both iPad and iPhone no longer connects to wifi

Updated to ios6 now lost all wifi connection both iPad and iPhone no longer connects to wifi

not much response in here which surprises me...
Anyway... AS I am still looking for answers, I will share a couple of points that I realised...
in Airport Utility, I noticed that my iphone MAC address was actually showing as client connected, despite my phone network showing the spinning wheel next to the network name for ever and never actually connecting.
I am currently testing the router mode in Network to be on DHCP and NAT mode with a range from .2 to .200
    My phone is now connected....
Everything seems to be ok and happy so far...
strange that this router and phone have worked together for at least a couple of years, the phone works everywhere else, and all other toys connect to my WIFI just fine. the list is as follow:
    airport extreme
    Zeppelin air
    2x apple tv
    2 ipads
    iphone 4s
    2 mac
    1 pc
I have litterally just hard reset the router with a pin just now as a last resort... same...
I will leave the router as DHCP & NAT until a potential firmware or OS update...

  • HT4528 I can't seem to sync my iPhone with iTunes.  I keep getting this message:  iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because an error occurred while reading from this device.  What can I do?

I can't seem to sync my iPhone to my computer; I keep getting this message:  "iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because an error occurred while reading from this device."  I get the same message with my iPad, even though they all share the same account.  What can I do?

This could be caused by a USB connection issue. Make sure the iPhone is directly connected to the Mac using the USB cable it came with. Also, try disconnecting all other USB devices.
If you haven't already try resetting the iPhone by holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see an Apple logo as described here:http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305743

  • My iPad is not connecting to the wifi although my laptop and iPhone are. the screen saysno internet connection

My iPad has stopped connecting to my wifi and says No Internet Connection, even though I have 3 bars wifi and my laptop and iPhone in the same room are connected

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • 5s wifi drops - is it the iPhone or the AirPort Express?

I just got my first iPhone (which I love!), but I'm having trouble using it with my home wifi.  It constantly drops the connection after a minute or so of use, or says I'm not connected when it shows I am connected.  Often, when I get disconnected, I have to dismiss the "Unable to join the network" message multiple times to get connected again.  The drops happen when I'm actively using the connection, such as a Hulu video.
I have no problem troubleshooting an issue, but I don't know what device to troubleshoot!
At home, I use a 2012 MacBook Air, a 2010 Mac Mini, and an iPad 2.  I have an AirPort Express Base Station (MC414LL/A).  I have absolutely no issues with the wifi, except with the new iPhone 5s.  Makes it seem like the problem is the iPhone.
However, in the past few days, I've used about three other wifi networks, and have not experienced the wifi disconnect problem at all.  Makes it seem like the issue is with my AirPort Express.  I did a firmware update to the AE.  I'm using WPA2.
Any advice on where to start?  Thanks!

    sorry, here we go:
    open a terminal using finder
    and issue this command:
    traceroute www.google.com hit enter
take a note the first ip address (99% this is the router ip address)
type control c to stop the command
now type ping "router ip address"
leave it pinging for 30 second then type control c
    observe the ping statistcs
if there is packet loss, this is the problem why you are seeing the message for a while

I can't connect to wifi network and bluetooth on iPhone 4S.  Need help.  Have already rebooted everything and reset network setting

I have the same problem; tried a phone restore, both restoring data and setting up as new phone with factory settings, reset all settings, re-boot, remove apostrophe, put in fridge, you name it!
I think there's quite a few iphone 4s users with the same problem!
I called Apple they said it's a hardware problem, but it has worked for nearly two years; they say go to the Apple store and they can provide a replacement phone for approx. £150!
I've been into the O2 shop where I bought it and they knew the problem exactly; said they had sent a few phones off for repair and had them back awith a report they cannot fix it because it's a software problem!
An assistant in the shop had the same issues; logic says it's a software problem and hopefully Apple will fix it with a patch but at the moment they seem to be avoiding everyones comments!
If anyone else has any ideas these would be appreciated?

  • WiFi Calling - Only available on iPhones purchased directly form EE

I have been in touch with EE Tech Support as they cannot seem to get WiFi Calling enabled on my iPhone. After more than 5 calls to various levels of Tech Support, today I am told that WiFi Calling on an iPhone 6 is only available if the phone was bought from EE stores or website. I don't believe the support guy and feel like I am being fobbed-off. Anyway, I am writing on this forum to see if anyone else has had this response? I cannot believe that Apple would use this feature in their product launch keynote and then agree with EE that it should only be available to phones bought direct. Doesn't make sense. I'd love to know what you think.

I have been getting the following message on screen, even though I am not trying to send a message or anything: Sorry, the number you are sending to does not contain enough digits. Please check the number and try again. … but I have done a reboot since and it appears to have stopped showing.
