Wifi Status Icon Gone

I have been experiencing this issue for at least 6 months now, and have seen it repeatedly addressed in the forum, but the only "fix" that is offered is "restore."
(kinda like the magic cure-all reboot for windows...)
Here is what I have determined:
If I use the Public Radio Player app and it crashes, it takes out my wifi icon with it.
It also occurs other times, probably at least twice a week, though the Public Radio app is the only thing I have conclusively determined as a cause.
And I can't get it back without a restore, which is a 20 minute process.
So, I'm not quite sure what to do. There have been updates to both the iPod software and the radio app, but nothing has changed.

Is Wi-Fi grayed out in Settings?
Try Resetting Network Settings from the Settings menu.
Also, you can rule-out backup issues by restoring the iPhone as a new device

  • AirPort status icon lost/gone.....

I am so frustrated. I cannot get my AirPort status icon to appear on my dock even with the "Show AirPort status in menu bar" clicked.
What am I doing wrong? And what can I do to remedy this situation???

    NVgirl,
you might try unchecking the option to show airport status in menu bar, quit out of system preferences, then go back in and re-check the option. Sometimes the setting in the property lists isn't updated properly but I find that if I change it to something else, quit the program, and then change it back it will sometimes fix the issue.
If that doesn't work, might try going to ~/library/preferences/ and deleting com.apple.systempreferences.plist. After that, restart the computer and try re-checking the option.
Let us know if none of that works

  • I inadvertedly changed a setting where the top of my screen no longer shows the apple logo in the top left or the clock and wifi status and strength on the top of the screen, how can I get it to show both of these things again like it used to?

I inadvertedly must have changed a setting where the apple logo and files and things that used to be in the top left corner of the screen are no longer there as the clock and wifi status and other installed settings used to show up in the top right hand corner of my screen.  When I move my mouse to the very top of the screen they drop down but when I move my arrow away from the very top of the screen they both disappear again.  So I was wondering how can I get it to revert back to the way it used to be?  I hope this isnt confusing.

I tried the zoom thing but it still didnt resolve my issue   Im gonna try to clarify my issue a little bit more, before the change, my screen when I would surf the web would have the apple logo and safari and file and edit and view buttons at the top left hand of the screen and the upper right hand screen would have the time and the wifi strength and my name and the spotlight box and a volume control but now they dont show while Im browsing the web unless I take my arrow and move it to the very top of the screen then those boxes will drop down like it used to be but when I take my arrow and move it from the top of the screen it disappears again and ll I get is a back and forward arrow and the url input bar.  Anyone else have any ideas of what I did to mess this up?

  • Ipod touch 1G "no wifi" grayed icon after upgrading to 3.1.3

    Hello there,
After upgrading my ipod touch to 3.1.3., the wifi icon gone gray and I have no chance to change any wifi settings. I've tried at at least 3 places with different routers where other devices (notebooks, PSP, DS), work fine, so I'm sure it's not an access point problem. Also I can't change any of the wifi settings. I've tried everything (clearing safari cache, history et all, reset network, reset ipod, restore ipod), and nothing seems to work.
The ipod is out of warranty and I wonder if there is some way to "downgrade" it to the previous version or any solution for this problem.
    Thank you in advance
When I tried to report a problem on the link at the receipt for the update, the screens shows like:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no" ?>

Restore your touch via iTunes. Select "Restore as new" when given the option.
The stuff you got on your PC screen was caused by a basic incompatibility between your browser and the Apple website. Update your browser.

  • Battery status icon meaning (?)

this seems like a dumb question, but i can't for the life of me find any apple document that explains what the battery status icons mean.
there's one with a lightning bolt and one that looks like a power plug.
i'm assuming that lightning bolt = charging and power plug means it's running off the adapter and the battery is fully charged?
i'm on a new macbook pro now, but the reason i ask is that in my old powerbook it was giving me both readings even while charging, so i'm confused...
probably due to faulty power adapter, which i've gone through like 4 of them....(due to them shorting out because they always seem to be on the wrong side of the computer from where i need to plug it in, and therefore causing connection problems due to the bend in the cord).
can anyone confirm what the icons mean?

    thanks.
the reason i'm asking now is that i have a separate issue that doesn't seem to be a problem yet. my current magsafe adapter's green light seems to go out when it's fully charged, if i wiggle it, it comes back on. but in any case, it charges normally and the battery icons function as they are theoretically supposed.
i live overseas and have converted many of my friends to mac's in the last few years, but everyone seems to have the same problem with these chargers, that the plugs short out near where they connect to the computer, this is due to apple putting the power plug on the side of the machine. many times you have to plug it into a wall on the opposite side, and it bends the cord, and after time it starts to fail.
i don't think it's happened yet to this charger, but i wanted to make sure...i swear that i saw the "plug" icon in my battery status with my old powerbook as it was charging, and the lights didn't correspond to what they were supposed to be.
    anyway, thanks!

  • ICloud status icon in iTunes

What does this iCloud staus icon mean? It used to appear intermittently in iTunes 10. It rarely, if ever, went away without restarting iTunes. I was hopeful that this issue would be "fixed" by iTunes 11. But, as you can see, it's still there, and it still clears with an iTunes restart. I found an Apple Support article for iCloud status icons <http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4124> but this one is not listed. Your thoughts?

Yes, please someone answer this question.
When playing purchased music or video streamed from iCloud (I do not have iTunes Match), sometimes the song just stops, I look over at iTunes window and the iCloud symbol is gone, and all my songs/videos in the cloud disappear from the list. It is as if the iCloud icon shows that I have good connection to my library on iCloud.
However, once it disappears (network hiccup?), I can't figure out how to get the iCloud-based songs back. If I quit iTunes and restart it, I *do* get that iCloud icon back as well as access to all my songs in iCloud.
Quiting and restarting seems a bad design.
Could Apple (or someone) provide a definitive story on the iCloud icon (what it means, what are its different states, etc.), and when it disappears, how can I bring it back (and my song lists)?

  • Wifi status in menu bar

I am running Yosemite. I have a good wifi connection. But the wifi status in the menu bar is showing the no-connection icon -- a grey fan with an x.
The drop down menu shows a check mark against the wifi network to which I am attached but below that there is a line which says "Wi-Fi: Not Configured."
    How do I fix this?

Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Network in the list.
Note: If AirPort isn’t in the list, click Add at the bottom of the list, choose AirPort from the Interface pop-up menu, give the AirPort service a name, and then click Create.
Select the "Show AirPort status in menu bar" checkbox.
Try checking and unchecking a few times maybe reboot in between

  • After upgrading to iTunes Match Genius Icon Gone on iPhone

After upgrading to iTunes Match Genius Icon Gone on iPhone
So I upgrade and uploaded/matched all my songs to iTunes Match. Everything seems to be fine, except I noticed I don't have the genius functionality on my iPhone. Basically the little atom icon is missing. Does anyone have a solution for this problem.
    Thanks
    Chike

This is what works for me.
I do this once: I keep quite a bit of music loaded on my iPhone using the normal sync process with my Mac (via USB cable) prior to turning on iTunes Match (...let's me listen to at least some music even when disconnected from the net, like when on a plane).  And then I turn iTunes Match back on (and leave it turned on) and it gives me access to the rest of my music library from iCloud when I have network access (3G or Wifi) for normal listening using my whole library over Match.
I start playing a song on my iPhone (one that doesn't have the iCloud icon)
I click the home button (physical button on iPhone that closes the Music app)
I then double click the home button (opens the task manager at the bottom)
Quit Music (press/hold on the Music icon in the tray until the little red circle with an x appears to quit the app)
Then restart Music (tap the Music icon on my iPhone home screeen)
When the Music app restarts, it opens to the last song playing.  if it was one of the songs downloded to my iPhone, it has the litlle atomic symbol again and I can create a genius playlist from it.
FYI: you can enable/disable iTunes Match on the iPhone without affecting songs loaded on your iPhone (even though it says it'll replace your iPhone library, the songs are still there if you enable/disable again).  Settings>>>Music>>>iTunes Match on/off.

  • Missing Status Icons on the Menu bar after update Maverick

After installing OSX Mavericks, all of the status icon on the right side of the menu bar (battery, date & time, wifi, language...) have been disappeared & then re-appeared and I cannot do anything with them (cannot click or anything)
    Please help me!
    Thanks a lot!
    Teddy

    Teddy ...
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.systemuiserever.plist file to the Trash.
Then check the status menu bar.

  • In ML, I can no longer see the wifi status in the menubar

Since I upgraded to ML, the right side of my menubar would regularly freeze, and the fans on my MacBook Pro 13" would keep running, with the mac slowing over time until it would become unusable. I found the suggestion to disable the "show wifi status in menubar" in the Network pref pane, and this indeed resolved the issue. However, trying to turn this setting back on does not work. There is no way to bring it back...I tried so far to reboot, repair disk permissions,...
    Any idea?
    Thanks,
    Guardajoias

If the checkbox does not bring it back try this...
It could be SystemUIServer which is a background process that specifically controls the right hand side of the menu bar where those menu extras are.
Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key to choose "Library". Then go to the Preferences folder and find and delete com.apple.systemuiserver.plist. Then go to the By Host folder also inside your Preferences folder and delete com.apple.systemuiserver.plist (also any with numbers). Then log out and back in, or restart. This should reset the right hand side of the menu bar to default.

  • Status icons in menu bar flickering

Since installing Mac OS X 10.7.2 on my 15" MacBook Pro (early 2011), the status icons in de menu bar are constantly flickering.
This is a video of the icons flickering: http://tinypic.com/r/314qopc/7 .
Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Simon.

    I'm having the same problem.
The only way to stop the flickering is to:
Go to spotlight in system preferences.
    Click on Privacy
    Click the "+" button
select Your hard drive from the drop down menu
This should stop the flickering but it does mean you can't search in spotlight. I've also found that if you try and use the dictionary the dictionry app will crash. Also if you 3 finger tap a word in safari to define it safari will also crash. But it is a temperary solution for the flickering.
    Hope this helps

  • How to disable the status icon in Skype 4 for Andr...

    Dear Skypers,
How to disable the status icon in Skype 4 for Android phones?
The guide on this following support page not working anymore: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA12359/how-do-i-enable-or-disable-the-status-icon-in-skype-4-for-a...
Older version has the option to disable Skype Status and get rid of the Skype icon on Android status bar. But latest 4.4.0.31835 could not disable Skype Status in notifications settings. :/
    Device: Google Nexus 4

Please bring back the option to disable the Skype icon on Android status bar. This is the main reason I uninstall Skype. :/
Kudos to the team, the apps is really smooth and fluid to use. Would be nice if you guys are following the Android Design Principles and using Google Cloud Messaging for push notification to improve User Experience and battery life.

Long click on this notification a sub menu having field "App info" would appear goto App Info. You can goto there by "Manage Apps">"Skype" also.
Uncheck Option "Show Notifications" A dialog will open. Don't worry about notifications for now just click OK. Now the notification icon skype has also been removed.
Now simply check "Show notification again". After doing this you would get notifications but skype icon would not be shown in the status bar anymore.
Issue: this is just a trick you need to repeat this every time sign out and sign in again. Mostly you don't do that so no need to worry.

  • Bluetooth status icon in the wrong place?

Well I turn on the MacBook Pro this morning to find that the bluetooth status icon is now between the clock and spotlight. Usually it was next to the airport status icon. On my old powerbook it was always next to the airport status icon. So i thought it was just some simple glitch and I restarted the laptop to find that it is still in the same place next to spotlight. I know it may sound odd but its bothering and looks really odd. Is there something wrong with it? Anyone have this same problem? Thanks I've only had my MacBook Pro for 3 days, there have been so many problems I have been running into with it(ie. opening photobooth yields a green screen at first, won't connect to my wireless network, itunes takes forever to open resulting in front row to lag and freeze, etc.) and I have already installed all the updates. If anyone has any insight to my other problems please let me know.

What ever Icon you add to the file bar will always go to the very left of the other icons. So if you want it to be on the very left then all you have to do is turn off any other icons in your system preferences then after the blooth is where you want it, put the others back on the left side of it. Or if you just want it at the Very left side, simply go into system preferences in the bluetooth icon, and uncheck the "show in menubar" box, then recheck it to send it to the very left side.
As for a glitchy macbook Pro, I had similar problems when I first received mine, but after a clean install of the OS and reformat of the harddrive things were much smoothe. And by the way, remember that BootCamp is still a Beta software and could cause glitches, or not work properly.
Unless you already have tons of important stuff on your MBP, I would do a clean reformat first off.

  • Airport status icon blinking in menu

My MacBook's Airport status icon in the menu bar blinks periodically, losing then recapturing wireless access. Very annoying. Obviously I can't download anything while it's blinking. And this appears to be when I'm connecting to my Airport extreme wireless N at home as well as my Dlink wireless N at work.... but connecting to a slower G router does not appear to cause this. Any ideas?

I am having a very similar problem. Did you find any fixes for this?
I have a snow base station and have no problems connecting to it with a clamshell iBook running OS X. But with my PowerBook G4, whenever I turn Airport on and try to access the base station, the airport status icon constantly flashes, almost like a pulse.
Today I took my PowerBook to a hot spot, and Airport worked great, so I know that my card is fine.
One thing I'm wondering about -- what firmware are you using on your base station? I currently have 4.0.4, so it's possible that upgrading to 4.0.9 will solve this problem. I'm reluctant for the moment to try the firmware upgrade because the clamshell iBook connects to the snow base station so smoothly. I don't want to mess up one set-up while trying to fix another.
I'll check back in case you have new information, including (I hope) a fix for this.
