Wifi sync searching for old wireless network

I believe a wireless sync on my iPod Touch was started on a hotel's network sometime last year and it must have gotten interupted and is now apparently only willing to resume the wireless sync (or commence a new wireless sync) if and when it finds that hotel's wireless network again.  I have tried disabling wireless sync, restarting itunes and device and re-enabling wireless sync but no luck.  Anyone have this issue and figure out a solution?  One thing I have thought of is renaming my wireless network but ... I would prefer not to because that will just confuse all my other devices.

I finally realized that I incorrectly identified the issue.  It apparenlty was looking for the computer and unable to find it....  I had to turn Internet sharing on to make it work.  So, if I am tethered to my macbook, it works fine but if I am just on the same wifi network, it's a no go.

  • After Mavericks upgrade Macbook wifi stops searching for networks

    Ok here's the problem.
Upgraded from Mtn Lion to Mavericks.
I have 2 user accounts.  One for personal and one for work.
Boot up - all is fine.   Switch from one user to the other the first time - all is fine.
But once I switch back to either user the problem appears.
What happens is that the computer stops searching for wifi networks.  If I click on the wifi indicator the only one shown will be the one that I'm connected to.  I am unable to select another network.  (there are several others in range but not shown)  The search indicator does not show up. If I click on Join another network and then on "select network" the dropdown box is empty and does not populate.
If I log out and log back in then the wifi will search and show the networks again (on that user account)  If I swtich back to the other I would also need to log out and back in.   Logging in and out only resets the search function of the active user.
Bottom line is once I switch from either user to the other AND THEN BACK TO THE ORIGINAL both users will no longer have wifi search function until you log out and back in on either user.
I've reset SMC and PRAM.  I've reinstalled Mavericks
I've contacted Apple for support and we've set up a new partition on the drive - installed Mavericks into that so it was like a brand new computer.  I then created 2 users on that account and STILL have the same issue when I switch between accounts (users)
The Apple tech seems to think that we've eliminated software problems so it must be interference from nearby networks causing this.  It seems odd that this happened imediatley after the switch to mavericks.   I am going to take my computer for a ride today and bring my MiFi along and see what happens.
Anyone having this issue?   Any thoughts?

  • HT4628 After installing the new OS from apple (10.8.2) my macbook pro keeps disconnecting from the internet.  I am connecting with an Airport Extreme and while it shows I am connected, every 20-45 seconds its searching for a wireless connection.  Any sugg

I guess I posted my question as a title but that is my issue.  My airport is connected via wireless yet it keeps searching for a wireless connection, hence I am experiencing bad latency and disconnection issues.  Anyone know a solution?

I have the same problem. And in my case it happens when i transfer "large" files over the WiFi. When i send an MP3 filer over Skype i loose connection. When i transfer updates between my iPhone 5 / iPad 3 and iMac with Mountain Lion i loose connection. When i have a video conference i loose connection. You get the idea.
There is usually like 30 people using their own router on the 2.4 GHz band near by. None on the 5 GHz band which i use. But when my WiFi freezes on ML i can only see my own router. And i am also connected to it. But all my neighbors WiFi routers are now invisble to me. My network stalled.
What i do is that i disconnect my WiFi and then reconnect it again. Thank fixes it. But all my transfers and what not has been dropped. And i have to start all over - and the WiFi will stall again.
While my WiFi is frozen on the iMac with ML i have no problem using the same router on the same 5 GHz band with my iPhone 5 or iPad 3.
Downgrading the AirPort Extreme to 7.6.1 from 7.6.3 helped a bit. Now i only loose connection a few times each day.
It is a software error in ML i am sure of. A driver maybe. But i am suspecting that it is either a speed-sync error or an energy saving error. Like the network card turns of in the middle of a file transfer to save enrgy - maybe.
When i stream movies from my iMac to my Apple TV or  3 there is no problem at all. It is so odd.

  • N95 - Turn off the search for available wireless n...

    Hi,
This is a strange problem - I think...
My N95, will at randon times, and not very often, automatically search for and detect wireless networks in my area, which will then prompt me to select one.
I have turned the Wireless LAN availability setting to never search for Wireless LANS - which was previously set to scan for networks every 5 minutes. (Under Tools-settings-connection-wireless LAN)
The bizarre thing about it all, is that it will often automatically search and detect wireless networks when my phone has been on charge for a long period of time, and not normally at any other period of time.
Does anybody know if there is a further setting somewhere that I could change? or perhaps point me in the right direction, but I do realise that this could well be a unique problem.
Any help on this would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks.Message Edited by t2303 on 07-May-200710:58 PM

Hello. I have a wireless network at home and have connected my N95 in the past.
I did too turned off the ability to search for Wireless Networks from the STAND BY SCREEN but I have noticed that an icon with 4 squares appeared. I was puzzled and went through the manual to check what it meant. It meant that there were available wireless networks in the area close by, obviously my home network.
Note: since my N95 connects automatically to my network it never asked for a password or connection.
If the above sounds like your problem try the following:
Press the menu button and navigate to
Tools -> Settings -> Connection -> Wirelesl LAN
and set "Show WLAN availability" to NEVER.
This helped me on saving on battery.
I hope this helps. Good luck.

  • ITunes wifi sync 'looking for iPhone' then ejects phone

    Hi,
I have sought an answer to this for a long while with no success. So I have joined ASC to see if any of you folks may help
    My Hardware:
    Apple iPhone 4s
    MacBook Pro (2009)
    TP-Link Router (TD-W8961ND)
    My Problem:
iPhone connects to mac over wifi and shows up in itunes.
When I initiate a sync itunes pauses and states 'looking for iPhone'
The iPhone is then ejected from itunes, without syncing (and no longer shows until I restart itunes)
    Further info:
I believe this is a router issue as wifi sync works flawlessly over other networks I have used.
I have enabled uPnP (and have tried disabling it and resetting the router etc).
I DO NOT believe this is an issue with itunes, iphone or Mac as I can sync over other peoples networks
    Any help appreciated.

    Hello there tastesalittlestrangetome.
Seems like you've done some excellent troubleshooting already. This Knowledge Base article provides some extensive/thorough steps to review and follow:
iTunes 10.5 and later: Troubleshooting iTunes Wi-Fi Syncing
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4062
But as you've indicated before, the article also mentions the potential of what you've already determined. It does work on other networks:
Test your device on a different network. If the device works on another network, the issue most likely exists with your router or network configuration. Contact your router manufacturer or Internet service provider for additional troubleshooting.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

  • I have 3 older ext. hard drives that I've utilized many times. Today while searching for old files, one of the three is no longer recognized by my PowerMac.  Any suggestions?

I have 3 older ext. hard drives that I've utilized many times. Today while searching for old files, one of the three is no longer recognized by my PowerMac. The drive is not listed in Disk Utility.  Any suggestions?

Is the computer in you equipment line:
    Dual Core Intel Xenon
(which is not a PowerMac but a Mac Pro) the one you are asking about, or do you have an older PowerMac?
If a Mac Pro, their forums are here:
    Mac Pro
and, as Mac Pros have a totally different architecture from the pre-2005 Macs this forum covers, you may not have the same issues that can affect the older models. If someone didn't notice your equipment line, you could get advice that doesn't apply.
If you really have a pre-2005 PowerMac, read on.
If the stubborn external is USB and does not have its own power brick (i.e., it gets power only from the computer's UBS ports--"bus powered"), it may not be getting enough power. As electric motors age, they can demand more power than when new, and the power available on any USB port is limited.
The typical workabouts to making a computer recognize an aging, bus-powered USB drive are:
Get a powered USB hub (has its own power brick
Get a "Y" USB cable: 1 Meter USB 2.0 A to 5 Pin Mini B Cable - Auxiliary USB "Y" Power Design for external hard drives.
The second gets power from two USB ports on the computer and often that's enough.
Remember that the USB ports on your keyboard seldom provide enough power even for a thumb drive, so be sure to use the USB ports on the back of the computer.

  • Onfigure a WAP54G to act as a repeater for my wireless network hosted by a Cisco/Linksys WAP610AP

How can I configure a WAP54G to act as a repeater for my wireless network hosted by a Cisco/Linksys WAP610AP
I am using ONLY 2.4GHz wireless band on the WAP610AP running Firmware Version 1.0.04
The signal from WAP610AP is weak in my home office and I would like to use the WAP54G as the repeater. Is this possible? If yes, please help!
    TIA

This statement is according to the WAP’s user interface: When set to "AP Client" and "WirelessBridge" mode, this device will only communicate with another Linksys Access Point (WAP54G). When set to "Wireless Repeater" mode, this device will only communicate with another Linksys Access Point (WAP54G) and Linksys Wireless-G Router (WRT54G). In a nutshell, the WAP54G may have a big possibility that it will not work on that device.

  • If i install my airport extreme using a pc, does that pc need to always be in the house for the wireless network to work?

Do I need to have the PC that I set up teh airport extreme with in teh house for the wireless network to work?

No. You would only need the PC to run the AirPort Utility if you ever need to make any configuration changes to the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS). You can even do that from a remote location. A computer is not required in order for other wireless clients to connect to the AEBS for network/Internet acess.

  • How do you set up a password for a wireless network when using an Airport Extreme?

How do you set up a password for a wireless network when using an Airport Extreme wireless router?

    Thanks for the updated information.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Extreme icon, then click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Check to make sure that the setting for Wireless Security reads either WPA2 Personal or WPA/WPA2 Personal
Enter a Wireless Password and Verify Password
Click Update to save any changes and wait a full minute for the AirPort Etreme to restart

Since upgrading my iPhone5 to the newest iOS (6.1.2) I can longer connect to WiFi. It sees the wireless network but will not connect.. Other devices in my home that weren't upgraded can connect just fine.

I had the same problem.  I did the reset networks on my iPhone & it did not work.  My husband read somewhere that changing the channel on the router to manual & selecting the highest available channel number might help.  I did that & it solved the problem.  I have not had the problem since.

  • Every few seconds, WiFi says: "Searching for Networks", alternating with WiFi: "ON"

WiFi seems to be scanning for networks every few seconds. In between, it is showing ON.
Other computers on the same home wireless network are fine. My home network appears
to be strongest, why does the Apple WiFi keep scanning? internet seems to be intermittent.
This started a couple days ago, no change in hardware for a long time.

    It's functioning as intended.
OS X is assuming that you clicked the Wi-Fi icon for a reason: to be given the option to connect to a different wireless network should you so choose.

  • Searching for USB Wireless for OS 9/X

    Hello,
I am in search of a wireless USB adapter which works for OS 9 and also OS X. Can someone provide me with the name of some vendors who still carry 802.11b usb adapters for Mac OS 9?
    Thanks.

Bluetooth for Mac on an USB stick
I used this for many years for connecting to my old desktop G4, and i guess i might have used it on OS 9.2.x too. Used it with my "fancy" *Nokia 6230i* with the impressive 2G network (ref- http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_6230i-1087.php), mostly for photo transfers, but also with BluePhoneElite managing my SMS messages, backing them up to my Mac, the important ones. Worked like a dream, mostly.
Just to day i removed it from my USB HUB to day, where it was still connected to an active up and going G4, where it worked well also in OS X up to OS 10.4.11 (haven't updated the G4 further, since it only is in use besides my new iMac.)
Point is, this is a version 1 USB, but it also works with USB 2 devices, as is my experience with USB 1 and 2. I may run USB 1 on USB 2 devices, but only with the speed of the version standard.
The USB Bluetooth stick i used is: D-Link Model No: DBT-120. It got the MacUser (magazine) awards of 2002. I did a search at search.yippy.com (D-Link DBT-120) and found it here http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=34
...Since my early version it's updated to USB 2 standard, but it may well work still for older Macs running OS 9.x.
Further search for buying some to day showed Amazon on the top of th pirice list, at $ 79.95!!!
    - On the D-Link homepage you also find links for reatilers, and then the prices varies from $23 to $ 40, shown in the javascript pop-up window for the retailers.
