Wifi Sync (using Win 7) question.

When I get on my iPod Touch (3rd Gen) after updating to iOS 5, and I go to Settings then Store, the Music, Apps, and Bookmarks Auto Downloads can't be turned on, why not?

Do you have XP on your computer? For a PC, iClould requires Vista sp2 or later

  • Problem with wifi sync using both iPhone 4 and iPad 2

Ok. I've upgraded to iOS 5 and iTunes 10.5, wifi sync worked when I upgraded my iPhone 4. But, once I upgraded my iPad 2 to iOS 5, now niether shows up in the list on the left side. They don't show up when they're plugged in or anything. The "sync over wifi" check box under the device summary tab is checked for both as well.
    So, anyone have any ideas?

Ok. Well, it seems to be working fine now. No idea why, but I'll take it.

  • Why no wifi sync?

I can understand that the data transfer rates needed for music and video files make Bluetooth impractical (if not impossible) to use to sync the iPhone, but why isn't wifi supported? Once the iPhone has been activated, it should be possible for a user to be able to connect wirelessly (iTunes has been doing it for years with remote speakers and Airport Express), it really bugs me that my newer (and much more expensive) phone can't sync with my computer as well as my old Motorola Razr.
    ~Trilo~

Yes, it should have BlueTooth contact sync, but all sync is handled through iTunes, and, as the OP said, it would be too slow to sync music and videos. So to design it so you could sync some content through iTunes and not other content would be fairly complex, and would then result in many support messages and phone calls asking why the iPhone doesn't sync with the computer. I would love it, however, if I could call a number in my WiFi enabled Palm contact list using the phone. I tried, and was able to pair the iPhone and the Palm but couldn't connect any meaningful content between them.
Why not WiFi sync is more complex, and has to do with the nature of the WiFi protocol. Your computer is set up to use Infrastructure mode of WiFi, which means there is a gateway (your router) and clients (your computers). WiFi does not support direct computer-to-computer communications except by using a different mode, "ad-hoc". But ad-hoc is not secure, and establishing a connection requires fairly complex setup on both the computer and the phone.
Another WiFi option, connecting between the computer and the iPhone via a shared drive (as you can between computers on your network) requires that the drives on both devices be accessible over the network. Apple has chosen not to enable "disk mode" on the iPhone to make it harder to hack.
Finally, Apple could enable WiFi sync using a lower level packet protocol, but again setting this up is beyond the skill of the average targeted iPhone user as it requires messing with IP addresses and ports.
Thus, the reasons Apple chose not to provide it are probably the complexity and the support cost. And probably also because there are no other phones on the market that support WiFi sync, so there is no competitive reason.

  • Does iphone use wifi sync or cable sync if the cable is connected?

    Hi
I have an iPhone 4s and had aquestion about wifi syncing.
Let’s say my phone is setupwith iTunes for wifi syncing and I use this feature occasionally.
But for a particular sync, Iwanted to use a cable as I had it handy, I’m in a rush and need to get a bit ofextra charge on the phone.
Will iTunes sync using wifi orvia the cable?
I want to know if I mustmanually uncheck and recheck the wifi sync but to switch between the 2 or will iTunesdetect the cable and use that? Also the speed difference is very noticeable sowhen in a rush it’s better to use a cable.
    Thanks

  • I set up iCloud on the Mac and sync my devices but my wife also uses an iPhone with a different id. How do we sync both iClouds to the one Mac?

My wife & I use the same Mac (running Lion) to share address book, Calendar. Now with iCloud we have separate Clouds for each device.
We need to still sync to the on Mac. How do we acheive this? My iCloud works fine but not the wife's.

I'm trying to sort out the same thing. I appears that under your iPhone Mail, Contacts, Calendar settings, you can change you account name that it syncs with, so you may be able to just add your AppleId account to your wifes settings, not sure. It also lists eMail, though, as well, so not sure how that would route your separate email.
Also, in AddressBook, there is a sharing option in preferences you might want to check out. I'm in the process of upgrading all our iOs stuff, so haven't had time yet to check it all out. It is taking a LOT of time to work through all this. Not seamless by any means.

  • My iPhone has two computers in (iTunes wifi sync), how can I remove one of them without using it ?

    Hello everyone.

because that PC stopped working so I had to recover it. Now everything is gone on that PC.
Also I bought a new computer (MacBook Pro) and I use iTunes on it in the mean time. Now I want to remove the old computer!
here is a photo of my (iTunes WiFi sync)
is there any way that I can use to do that?
    Thanks

    Hello,
Did you ever find a solution for this ?
I have the same issue and i dont know how to fix it.

  • Can you print from an iPad 2 using 3G in a home with no computer or wifi by using an iPhone 5 hot spot connection if the printer has been set up in another place with live wifi? I know this question is loaded but my dad lives in a rural area

Can you print from an iPad 2 using 3G in a home with no other computer or wifi by using an iPhone 5 hot spot connection if the printer has been set up in another place with live wifi? I know this question is loaded but my dad lives in a rural area and is wanting a printer to use occasionally. He doesn't want to deal with a computer and I keep his iPad updated for him at my home.  Please shed some light on this for us PLEASE. Thanks

In that case, it should be possible. I haven't tried this directly, but I believe it should work.
You'll need to get an actual AirPrint compatible Printer.
Check here for a list of Printers you can choose from.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
Once you have the compatible printer, using the Hotspot feature from the iPhone he'll have to create the Wifi bubble form the iPhone, and connect the Printer to that Wifi network.
Then connect the iPad to that same Wifi network provided by the iPhone. When all that is done, the printer should appear in any of the Apps that can Print under the Action Arrow button.
For instance in email, pressing the action arrow should show a Print option. In there the printer should appear.
Alternatively you can simply buy a wireless router and setup the network through there even if there is no internet attached.  Connect the wireless printer to the router network, and connect the iPad or iPhone to that same wifi network to print.

  • Two people, two apple IDs, three iPods, two iPads, one Mac.  Can we use wifi sync?

We have two apple IDs and multiple iOS 5 devices. We'd like to consolidate to a single Mac and use wifi sync with it. But can we run two instances of iTunes on one box at the same time and have that work?  Or do we need to consolidate to a single iTunes and single apple ID?  Or give up on both being able to do this, and just pick one to do it this way and make the other person keep using the old way?
    Thanks!

My wife had an iPad for a year and synced to our computer with no problem.  I recently received an ipad2 and when I tried to sync using separate apple and iTunes passwords, under her computer user name, it appears I over-road her account and synced all her apps with my apps on my iPad.  I then set myself up as a new user on our computer and tried to sync.  I now get the error that my iPad is synced to another library.  How can I start over without erasing all my data on the iPad?

Go back to her login.  Unless you deliberately erased apps, they should all be there, both yours and hers!  Then, you need to set up each iPad separately.  You will notice that they have separate names for that very purpose.
There is no problem with multiple Apple IDs on the same iTunes on the same computer except...  Apps are permanently associated with the ID that was originally used to obtain them.  If you choose to update an app from inside iTunes and you're logged into the "wrong" ID, you must log out and back in again.
On the bright side, you can configure either or both iPads to sync with apps and music and movies, etc. from either or both IDs.  Further, if you choose to update the apps from the iPads themselves, there is no need to log out/in.  The device handles that.  All you need is the correct password.  In my case, I use the same password for both IDs to make things easier.

  • TS4062 After using Setup Assistant, devices no longer appear in iTunes for Wifi Sync

I'm trying to fix an issue that is the result of a bug I disovered, and I'm out of ideas to troubleshoot. I'm hoping you guys will have some more suggestions, perhaps deleting plists or somehow resetting iTunes device syncing so I can start over.
    The bug:
Using Setup Assistant to transfer data over from my other parition which had iTunes configured to sync my devices causes the new partition's iTunes to NOT show devices in iTunes. When I plug my device in, the option to sync over Wifi is still enabled, but unplugging it still doesn't keep the device displayed in iTunes. Unchecking Wifi sync, clicking Apply, checking, clicking Apply and disconnecting results in the same problem - device disappears from iTunes. But if you go to Settings > General > iTunes Wi-Fi Sync, the Sync Now button is not grayed out. Clicking it starts the sync, but it never gets past the "Looking for iMac" stage.
I'm in the process of filing this bug with Apple, but I want to include the steps I've followed to fix the issue so they know.
What I've attempted so far (in this order):
    Quitting and relaunching iTunes
    Restarted my iPad
Then forcing a sync on the iPad via Settings is the same result, endlessly looking for the iMac
So then I opened AirPort Utility, clicked my Time Capsule, then clicked Base Station > Restart. After the Time Capsule restarted and the Wifi was working again, I checked back in iTunes to see if the iPad showed up - it didn't.
So then I turned off Wifi on the iPad, Quit and relaunched iTunes, then enabled Wifi on the iPad and it still didn't appear.
Note that the exact same thing is happening with my iPhone.
    iTunes 11.0.2
    OS X 10.8.3
    iOS 6.1.3
    Thanks guys!

Not even deleting plists, essentially resetting iTunes, solved the problem.
In case anyone has troubles with this and none of the troubleshooting steps worked, here is your last resort, which finally solved the problem for me.
    Use Terminal to delete iTunes:
    cd /Applications/
    sudo rm -rf iTunes.app/
    Download and install iTunes
The iOS devices magically appear in iTunes, without needing to plug in via USB to enable Wifi sync.

  • IPhone not recognized in iTunes when using WiFi sync

I have found that my iPhone is frequently not recognized when using WiFi sync.  The only way to sync my phone when that happens is to use the old fashioned way--connect it to my computer via USB.  Then the phone is recognized and syncs fine.  The device shows even when I take my iPhone off power.  But when I close iPhone and later reopen it and plug in my iPhone to power, often it is not recognized.  I've tried everything I can think of but nothing works.
    Any ideas?
    talbryn

I am having the same problem.  It was working just fine and then just mysteriously stopped showing up in iTunes (my iPad still shows up & syncs via wifi just fine--it is just my iPhone).  Someone please reply soon, this is driving me nuts! Thanks in advance!!

  • WiFi Sync with iOS 5 doesn't work with Airport Express used as a wifi extender?

So in our apartment we have an Airport base station that doesn't reach all the way to the bedrooms, so we use an Airport Express as a wifi extender/repeater. The Wifi sync doesn't work when connected to the Airport Express. My iPhone and iTunes can't find each other. But if I'm sitting next to the base station it works just fine. Is there a workaround for this to get wifi sync working in my bedroom? I've updated both Airports to the latest firmware versions.
    Thanks
    Byron

Well, never mind. It magically started working.

  • Cannot do wifi sync after update IOS 6 using windows vista pc with itunes 10.7

I cannot do the wifi sync,I am using IPAD 3 with IOS 6.I heard people said to do synchronous wireless. It would work I using Windows Vista, then I using Itunes 10.7.Somebody can help me  to solve these problem or give me feedback to solve these problem.

Like many others, most of the the workarounds I tried worked but for awhile only and/or not reliably. After more googling and trial and error, I finally ended up with a somewhat reliable solution using the below 2 changes. (I am running up-to-date Win7 with an Ipad2 and an Iphone5 both on ios 6 + and up-to-date Itunes software on the PC).
    1)  Disable IPv6 on the wireless adapter (see CKNairb's earlier post)
    2)   Create a bat file which stops and starts the "Apple Mobile Device" service, then starts Itunes
The bat file can be placed in any dir and a desktop shortcut created to point to it in order to easily start Itunes (right-clicking properties of the shortcut and clicking "Change Icon" will even allow the selection of the Itunes icon to make it look just right :-) )
The bat file should contain these lines:
    net stop "Apple Mobile Device"
    net start "Apple Mobile Device"
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe"
Edit accordingly as to whether your Itunes.exe resides in \Program (x86) or \Program.
By starting Itunes using this shortcut/bat file, you will ensure that the Mobile Device service is up and running when Itunes attempts to locate the devices wirelessly - this seems to be the key issue here.
Although it is not 100% reliable, I would say that both devices are detected and synced 90% of the time. (Itunes will always find one of the 2 devices).
Anyways, based on all I have gone through to get this work, I am willing to settle for "almost reliable" solution - hopefully this may work for others as well.
    Happy syncing!

  • My ipad wont sync using wifi

I cant sync my ipad via itunes as it says there is not enough space altho there is plenty.  I did manage before to sync using wifi but cant now as the "sync now " is greyed out. How ca I resolve this?

If you have been able to sync over WiFi previously, try quitting iTunes and restart the computer, launch iTunes again and restart your iPad and then try again.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Make sure that the selection to sync over WiFi is still checked in the summary pane of iTunes as well.
