Wifi Tethering for Symbian^3

Hi,
Just wondering if the new Symbian^3 OS supports Wifi tethering like the new smartphones now that already do (Android, Windows Phone 7)
I am a loyal fan of Nokia, and would love to continue my next nokia with the new OS on devices such as the N8 or E7, could anyone verify this for me, so i could make a decision asap. thanks!

Joikuspot has already released wifi teethering for the N8, BUT DON'T GET IT YET.
I installed joikuspot a week ago, and it makes your wlan (on the N8) almost unusable even if joikuspot is not started, it wont connect automatically to wlan anymore forcing you to use 3G, uninstalling joikuspot did not help either.
I did a "reset to factory" on my N8 and now the phone is completely unusable, looks like I now have some old beta version of symbian^3, completely different UI and ovi store does not work anymore, it's also slow and choppy, which it was not before the "factory reset"

  • Is there any way to create a wifi hotspot for my macbook using my IPad?, Is there any way to create a wifi hotspot for my macbook using my IPad?

I am going to a lake cabin in Northern Minnesota for a week and need to get wifi for my Mac.  Is there any way to create a wifi hotspot using my Ipad so that I have internet service for my laptop?

No, iPad can become a hot spot, but if you have an iPhone, it can tether if you have a data plan that incudes the tethering option.  With AT&T for example, you can add tethering for $20 month or for $45/month, you receive tethering and 4GB of data per month.  If you have the unlimited data plan from AT&T you'll unfortunately have to give it up if you want to tether.  You can also go to almost any carrier and purchase a MiFi unit which may work for you.  Whether iw will work in Northern Minnesota is something only your carrier could answer.

  • Can you use your Iphone as a wifi-hub for Ipad?

Is it possile to buy the Ipad2 wifi and then use your Iphone Data plan to connect your ipad to 3G network? Therefore using my iphone as a wifi-hub for the Ipad instead of paying for another data plan?

Absolutely you can do this.  If you have iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 and your carrier offers a tethering plan, you can certainly use that to give your iPad a wifi hotspot anywhere you have 3G service.  AT&T offers tethering.  There is additional cost and for anyone who had an ulimited data plan with AT&T, they will have to give up the unlimited option and agree to a capped data plan.  Currently, that option costs $45/month and includes (I believe) 4GB of data/month.

  • Wifi card for n73

Is it possible 2 use mini sd wificard???
    thnks
    razr127

    I believe you can't.
the MiniWifi card is a hardware but you need a driver for it.
If N73 OS is plug and play and got built-in wifi driver and other necessary application, then it is ok but my guess it's NOT.
I am curious too but will do some search and if i find something i will let you know.
Also, you can send email to those companies who make that miniWifi card to see if they have driver for Symbian 9.1 S60 or so.

  • Where is the Lumia 800 wifi tethering?

    Hello
About two months ago, there was a lot of buzz on the net about "lumia 800 gets wifi tethering in the next update"
Well... Am I missing something important on my phone or is the wifi tethering still not there?  I could use it, especially since Joikuspot is not available for this phone.
    Thanks
    Dieter

I keep asking the same question and never get an answer from Nokia, I cannot believe they do not know this. I purchased this phone after being told it was already available by the salesman. I purchased this on a higher contract so that I could get rid of my mobile dongle. I am now paying for both each month. This has really put me off Nokia, jut wish I was wasn't stuck with it for an 18 month contract.

  • Can iPhone 4 operate on WiFi and be a WiFi Tethered Point at the same time?

I hope this has not been discussed before and don't know why someone would want to do it other than to check your tethered setup is working. Just looking for a technical answer.
I used my iPhone 4 on my local WiFi network and set it to create it's own WiFi tethered data access point with different password encryption. I was then able to log into it with a Windows laptop using the iPhone's WiFi. When I downloaded something from the Internet, the 3G usage did not increase, only the tethered usage increased.
I was told that as soon as tethered data is used, it will use the 3G connection. The counters do not indicate this is happening. There was no change in the 3G counter even after refreshing it, but the tethered counter increased as anticipated.
    Is this operation possible?

You seem to understand it. I believe that when you tether, you have a separate allowance (I believe mostly it is 2GB) aside from your normal data balance. When you tether, it automatically uses the 3G to tether, not the wifi and the data will be subtracted from your tethering allotment. When you use data on your phone, it is subtracted from your normal data allowance (the pool not reserved for tethering) but only when using 3G. If you are on wifi on your PHONE (not tethering) it won't subtract. Hope that sort of makes sense.

  • Have one WiFi signal into the apartment for my Air, and another wifi signal for my 5c phone plan. Both from the same provider. Expensive. Is there a way to 'combine' WiFi signals so I pay only for one, but can get on the Internet with my Air?

Roamingnome, thanks for your response. Although I have been a Bell (Canada) customer for my WiFi signal for years, the 5c and its necessary mobility plan, is very recent. Some years ago, Bell supplied its own ‘router’ for my computer, and claimed that it was possible to get their WiFi signal only with the router they supplied. When I recently received the 5c, I wondered if the plan it requires, which is within the much wider, overall Bell zone, could be used somehow to get my Air online - some sort of tethering? - that allows me to give up the Air WiFi service and router all together, but still get the Air connected. Here in Canada, Bell Mobility and other Bell services are very separate. Any suggestions appreciated.

  • Wifi Tethering - Connect to wifi from Phone

    Hi
I have a Nokia Phone that supports Wifi Hot Spot. In india only the wifi version of the Tablet S is available - I bought it assuming that that a basic feature like Connecting to a Wifi Hot spot from a Phone would be available on the Tablet.
However the Tablet is not recognizing the Wifi from the Phone - I tried different softwares' both free and paid... No use...
Why is this not supported? It will be really useful - I was planning to switch to Xperia S - OR the (yet un announced) Sony Xperia dual Core but if this kind of feature is not available then its no use moving to a faster phone....
Can Moderators explain why this feature was left out?
    Thanks

    Hi Dave
Did you get Wifi Tethering to work from you Mobile Phone to your Sony Tablet S? if yes can you tell me what you did exactly? Also which phone do you have? I have searched online for a long time - Not many people have gotten it to work. Mostly the people who got it worked had Either managed to Boot the Tablet S in recovery mode OR had managed to ROOT their Phones.
I tried creating a Wifi Hotspot from Nokia N9, Nokia N900, Nokia C7, Nokia N8, Samsung Galaxy S - None worked.... Windows Phone 7 does not yet support creating Hotspots.... Didnt want to try iDevices....
And don't tell me about Sony products - I got enough Sony Products do have the right to complain.....
Let me give u some examples -
    1. Sony Camcorders used their own Tape format. The other vendors used a Tape format directly compatible with the VCR players of that time.
    2. Sony Cameras used Memory Sticks not SD Cards like everyone else. So you couldn't view your photos on other peoples Camera's and also 60-70% of laptops didn't have Memory Stick Readers.
    3. PSP-Vita uses a NEW form of Memory Stick - so if u had sony products before and had old Memory Sticks then they go to the trash bin!
    4. UMD for PSP
    5. ATRAC for Music Players and the Most Horrid Software of all times - Sonic Stage. I have an old Sony Walkman that I cant use anymore because I don't have Sonic Stage. I can get it BUT the current version expects me to FORMAT and LOSE all my music if I want to load any new songs.
My point is - this kind of proprietary format doesn't work. Companies need to be more open so invite consumers who might switch brands....
In case you haven't noticed Sony has moved away from this proprietary format for a lot of product lines... but now they are jumping back into it with the PSP-Vita and Tablet devices....
    Thanks

  • Skype for symbian such a shame

    Hi nokia community,
skype for symbian on my belle nokia 701 is a complete disappointment, not even a single feature is new.
It is same old skype for symbian packed with new touch UI, and why doesn't skype support video call for latest belle devices?
Seriously it feels like living in old times, having all the hardware required on my device but still unable to make use of front cam , is nokia doing anything in this regard?
After all nokia and microsoft are partners now, they should take care of things like these, why we symbian users are left behind without any useful productivity apps like other leading OSes in market?
Please let me know your views, and is there any way I can use my device's for video calls (other than network video calls)?
Your support would be highly appreciated.

The biggest problem I have on Skype for S^3 (N8) is that voice calls are completely useless, the other end can never understand what I'm saying.  This is on 3G and Wifi networks with no other apps running in background.
The second biggest problem I'm having is that after sending an SMS (via Skype app) the message screen does not disappear and there's no confirmation that the message was sent.
I agree, Skype is completely useless with voice calls, I at first put this down to the other party trying to connect to me using video calling but after reading the above I wonder whether that was the case.

  • WiFi Tethering on 3Gs

    Hi All
I am new to this so sorry if this topic is a repeat...
Anyone know if the 3Gs with v4.2 is able to do wifi tethering? i.e. your iPhone will act as a wireless router so you can have/add other wifi devices to the iPhone to access the internet?
I hear there is an App called MyWi that will enable this however the iPhone has to be jailbroken which I dont want to do.
Any reply would be grateful - thanks

Thanks for your replies guys - much appreciated!
I hope our friend Steve Jobs can implement this in the next update - if any! as Android v2.2 have released this feature which is a great feature!
    Cheers

It seems like I cannot get GPS only to work on my ipad3 (4g version, but not on an active cell plan, and wifi off).  Is there some new requirement in 7.1 or 7.1.1 to have cell and/or wifi enabled for GPS to work? I am testing with MotionX, garmin blueChart mobile, and a GPS monitoring tool. All show no signal. If I turn on cell and wifi,  it says I get gps signal, but can't tell if that is from the GPS chip, or just from cell and wifi only (maybe with some gps mixed in)?  Any ideas on how to get iPad working with GPS only??

Roger that.  Thanks for your time.

Yes. tried the one ram stick, no go.  I have been trying to boot off/install the windows 7 disk but am unable to get to the point where windows starts installing after its gathering information portion of the install.  I can get to the disk selection screen of the install with the WD HD on SATA port 2 but then get the "cant install messages" when I try to select the Vertex 3.  Yes I can see the Vertex 3 Drive as well as the WD drive at this point.  some times I have to hit "scan" a couple of times.

System Version:          Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549). can I take out the wifi card from that mack and use that one for my mac air?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Consider yourself lucky that your MacBook is still working. Now, turn it off. Wine may have damaged other parts of your computer.
Then, take the MacBook to an Apple Store or reseller. It will be a very expensive repair, as it's not covered by warranty and the logic board has to be replaced. In some cases, it may be better to get a new MacBook.
If you can't take it to an Apple Store, contact with Apple > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
