Wifi to 2nd imac gets poor internet signal

my airport extreme/time capsule works fine wifi with close computer. however 2nd computer located 60 feet away, frequently does not get an internet connection. it only gets 2 bars on network symbol. is there anyway to boost the signal to this distant computer?

If you are already operating your AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) with the radio power set at 100% (the default), you still have a few options to try to get a better signal to your 2nd computer:
o Switch the AEBS's radio mode to "802.11n only (2.4 GHz)." Note your computers must be capable of connecting 802.11n networks.
o It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference in the immediate area that is preventing your 2nd computer from getting a good clean signal. I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like MacStumbler or iStumbler to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible.
o Invest in a transceiver. Two examples would be: Wi-Fire from hField Technologies, Inc. and Quicky by QuickerTek.

I often get a poor internet signal for no reason. I have a D-Link (DSL-G604T) router that is connected via an ethernet cable to my iMac. This works perfectly, but it is also connected to my husbands computer via airport and this doesn't always work properly. He is always able to connect to the network, but the signal strength is very inconsistent. The machine he uses is a 17" 1Ghz PowerBook and it's not in the same room as the router, it's in the next room and the connecting door is always open.

Hello. I had not had my airport for 7 weeks after getting a new drive installed, and just the other day did it.... If I may (hoping to not anger Don) add one thing: the interference robustness that don advised clicking is the computer's interference robustness- you also want to do it to the base station (admin utility, configure, then the row of boxes, make airport the blue (checked ) box....then under wireless options near bottom of page, click, and a page drops down...it discusses multi-cast rate,and then you click that interference robustness tab, then the power setting (if not secure cut power back- if you are password protected, blast it). Then click OK,then click UPDATE at bottom.)
(this last one is when the base station gets the instructions you gave it, it will restart,takes two minutes perhaps).
Last night, I wandered my house with my unit, first time since august.... and WOW did my signal power drop when my air conditioner kicked in.... not for long, then it came back to about half while it ran the rest of the cycle...
SO, any radio interference can have an effect: sun spot cycles, hair dryers, microwaves, all the stuff that used to put snow on a TV screen can weaken the signal. Sorry to be a buttinski... Peace C

How Do I Get An Internet Signal

I have a cable modem. I get my internet connection by connecting an ethernet cable from the modem to my computer. However, I want to move my computer into another room without moving the modem (too many wires involved). What do I need to do in order to get a signal from my modem wirelessly? Will I lose any quality in the signal if it is wireless versus the direct connection I have now via an ethernet cable?

Buy a wired/wireless router and connect it to your modem. For best compatibility I would recommend using the Airport Extreme Base Station. You can purchase it at the Apple Online store or from your local Apple vendor.
Wireless differ from wired in that it is not nearly as fast. Wired Ethernet can operate at 1 Gbit speed, but the fastest wireless would be less than half that speed.

Connected to WiFi but can not get the internet

I'm really hoping that someone can help. I bought my Ipad yesterday but am unable to connect to the internet. I have connected to my WiFi and have full signal strenght but when I go on Safari it tells me that I'm not connected. I have tried changing some of my settings but can only get as far as the message 'Cannot open page - Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding' I also have the same problem with my Iphone and Ipod touch, I have never tried to sort these as don't need the internet on them. I have tried updating my Itunes and Ipad, both are now fully updated. My internet is working fine on any computer that is not apple... Please help, im pulling my hair out here.

What do you see if you go to Settings > WiFi and touch the ">" next to your network name?
If you touch the ">" you will get the details of your network connection. Things like the type of IP address allocation (DHCP, Static, Bootp), assigned IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router address, DNS addresses, etc.
Please report what you see there.
Also please identify the make, model and type of router you have.
Do you know what kind of security you are using on your router? None, WEP, WPA, WPA2?
When you said, "I have tried changing some of my settings", what did you do?

I am getting poor internet performance

I am currently on the 3 megabit plan. I am currently getting a download speed of 1169 kbps and an upload speed of 36 kbps I have tried restarting the modem and it doesn't seem to help. I have a Actiontec Mode GT784WNV Any ideas what the issue might be?

Tap Reset Network Settings.

How can I use an Airport Express to join my wireless network and provide an internet signal to my Power Mac g5 via an ethernet cable?

I have a power mac g5 that does not have a wireless card, and connects to the internet via ethernet cable.
I want to know how to set up an airport express so that it joins my wireless home network and provides the G5 with an internet signal.
This via an ethernet cable that is plugged into the airport express and then into the ethernet port on the g5.
Please advise as I have configured the airport express in every way possible, the green light is on and when I plug the ethernet cable into the G5 my network cofigurations shows nothing and says that the ethernet cable is not plugged in (It is).
I get an internet signal if the ethernet cable is plugged directly into my wireless router, so the ethernet port works.

Two requirements that must be met to do what you want.......
1) An AirPort Express 802.11n must be used. Check the Model No on the label on the side of the Express. It needs to be A1264. Any other model number will not do what you want.
2) The Express must be configured to "Join a wireless network" and the option to enable Ethernet Clients must be checked.
Open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
The box to "Allow Ethernet Clients" must be checked
Please check to verify that your AirPort Express meets both requirements

Can access Apple TV via airplay, but can't get to internet or iMac from Apple TV. Whenever I try to put my info in it says to try later. When I test network it says network time has not been set. It has worked previously.

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
Restart your mobile device.

Can I create a network where the Time Capsule gets its internet connection from my iMac?

I've recently bought a Time Capsulebut I'm having some problems with it on my university network. It is an Eduroam network, so each computer has to authenticate before it can get an Internet connection – I can't use the Time Capsule normally as it is unable to authenticate to the network. However, I'd like to be able to create a smaller network in my room (with my computer and iDevices on so that I can use Remote and stuff, as well as to potentially get my Xbox and Kindle,which can't connect either, online).
Last time I did this, I had my iMac create an internet connection which it shared with everything else. (This was before I had the Time Capsule.) One way of solving it seems like it might be to share the Wifi internet connection with the Time Capsule through the ethernet, and then the Time Capsule can share the interent to everything else. Would this be possible? Or can you think of any other way that this could be done?
In other terms, I have an iMac, a Time Capsule, an iPhone and iPad, a Kindle and an Xbox. Only the iMac can connect to the internet and I'd like them all to be able to, as well as being on the same network. Is this possible?

iOS 10.9.5 does not exist.
iOS refers to the operating system on iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touch.
10.9.5 was never a version of a Classic operating system.
10.9.5 was a version of Mac OS X, and is 13 years newer than Classic.

IMac gets exclamation mark on wifi icon

Hi,
My iMac gets an exclamation mark this afternoon saying alert: no internet connection. In network setting it says self-assigned ip. It worked perfectly before and all of a sudden it just won't connect to the Internet. My MacBook and iPad are able to connect to wifi so definitely some thing is wrong in my iMac. I got the exclamation mark once at school with my MacBook, but the problem seemed to be solve after one class which is 70 mins (I let it sleep and did nothing to it). Ive been trying to fix this problem with my iMac fir the whole afternoon but still get this exclamation mark.
I've tried: a. Turn off and on wifi. B. Trying to delete plist files in library but I couldn't find them. C. Renew DHCP lease d. Create new location. E. Restart

Poor internet speed getting slower

The area i live in has a very poor internet speed however in the last couple of months it has got significantly slower, where web pages arent evening loading and streaming is getting near impossible
BT call centre suggested leaving it an hour, then a day then a few days and they would 'fix' something. No change ever happens after these calls and leaving the internet unused for days at a time is getting unacceptable

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app
    •    Tap on Wi-Fi
    •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
