Wifi unavailable upon wakeup

When my iMac 27 mid-2011 10.7.1 wakes up from sleep, an alert window immediately appears, telling me that no WiFi network is available.
In fact, my WiFi connection will always establish itself a mere 2 seconds later.
But even then, the alert window will remain on screen until manually dismissed.
I was wondering if there was a setting somewhere that could delay the triggering of this "WiFi Unavailability" alert window.
A delay that would allow the reconnection to establish itself and thus prevent this bothering alert from appearing.
Thanks in advance.

I am also experiencing this, but on a 2011 MacBook Pro.

  • MacBook Pro loses wifi connection upon wake since I bought a new AirPort Express

Hi. I've been using Apple devices and computers since february 2008 and had no problems until now. I currently own an early 2011 13" MacBook Pro and a PC running Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.10. Until early February, I used a 2nd gen AirPort Extreme to connect to wifi upstairs, being connected via Ethernet to my ISP's modem located downstairs which provides a weak wifi signal (of course my ISP says it's impossible since their modem is the best on the market), not even compatible with Apple's wifi systems (all other French ISPs modems are compatible with it), that's why I had to get a 30 ft ethernet cable running down the stairs. My connection was lost everytime I went upstairs/downstairs so I bought a new Airport Express to replace my ISP's modem wifi signal and I'm using my AirPort Extreme to extend the wifi network upstairs. Now all my devices and computers have a strong wifi signal anywhere in my house with only one downside: My MacBook Pro (and only it) loses the wifi connection upon wake after sleep and I have to disconnect/reconnect it manually. I didn't bother installing Windows on it as I removed the Superdrive to setup a DIY Fusion Drive a few months ago so I can no longer boot optical medias and I can't know if it's a hardware or software problem. Again, everything was working all right on it until I changed my Wifi network configuration a month ago when I bought my Airport Express.
    Can anyone help me ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Well this isn't making sence.
What is the model # on your extreme?

  • Black screen upon wakeup after longer sleep...

In the last 2 months or so, I have seen my MacMini 2011 OSX 10.7.3 crashing withing a minute of wakeup, after sleeps of more than 2-3 hours.
Sometimes the Black screen occurs almost immediately, sometimes it takes up to a minute after the desktop appears (after logging in).
This did not occur until I got 10.7.3 and only within the last 2 months.

    Anyone?
I am up to 100 crashes upon wakeup now. Various versions of Lion 10.7.x. I have done clean installs as well.
Does anyone else get the black screen of death shortly after wakeup from sleep?
This never happened on 10.7.0, 10.7.1 or 10.7.2
Crashes happen in both 10.7.3 and now 10.7.4, and for sleeps as short as 90 minutes.

  • Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina 13" Thunderbolt to DVI Connection to Samsung 24" - Static screen upon wakeup

    Hi,
My Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retain 13" is connected to the Samsung 24" Samsung via Thunderbolt/DVI connector.
Upon wake up from sleep mode, the Samsung monitor displays a static screen.
Any idea what the cause maybe and how to fix it? - Right now I have to unplug and plug back the thunderbolt to fix the issue which I find annoying to do. Any better solution out there?
    Thanks alot!

    In a word, yes.

  • Macbook freezes upon wakeup after extended sleep

I have been having an issue with my Macbook that just started occurring within the last month or so. I am unable to relate it to any specific software update that I might have done, but in my trouble-shooting I have a strong hunch that it is a preference issue.
The issue happens when the Macbook is left in a state of sleep mode for a length of time greater than 1 hour, this is especially true when closing the clamshell to put the computer to sleep. Some things I can do to extend this time are listed farther below.
When returning to the computer it seems to be in the proper sleep mode. The light is pulsing as it always has. The issue is upon waking, opening the clamshell the screen flickers and then freezes up leaving the screen black and the system completely unresponsive. This is not a failed back light that does not come on, absolutely nothing works in this frozen state, caps lock light does not work, volume does not work, pressing the power button and return does not allow it to restart. Absolutely nothing works.
At this point I have two options, hard reset or just waiting it out. The hard reset option does not always work, but waiting it out always does. It can take about 30 - 45 minutes to come back to life. There is a serious drain on the battery in this frozen state if it is not plugged in.
Some things that I have noticed in trouble shooting this include: If I use the Apple menu or keyboard commands to put the system to sleep before closing the clamshell I can come back to it anytime within the day and it will work normally. If I extend that time longer, (like over night for example) I have a 70% chance it will wake normally and 30% chance it won’t. Leaving it in sleep mode longer than just overnight will always result in the freeze occurring.
The freezing occurs even when Airport is turned off prior to putting the computer to sleep using the Apple menu or keyboard commands. My hunch is that it is a preference issue that becomes corrupted somehow over time because the issue develops in the extended sleep. If I close the clamshell and open it again 10 minutes later it works normally 1 hour later and it is frozen. This freeze is not application specific, it can happen with or without any application running.
Some other things I have tried are deactivate and reactivating the Airport in Network Preferences (I also did this with the Ethernet even though I only use Airport).
I’ve Repaired all permissions. I’ve replaced the com.apple.AutoWake.plist.
    I've reset PRAM and SMC.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
This Macbook is 2.16 GHz, 2 GB RAM running OS 10.6.5.

An update to my earlier posting, doing some trial and error I have discovered that after removing all of my HP printer/scanner drivers and related software (which I was having less than an optimal experience with anyway), my freezing issue has been reduced from more than 1 hour down to 10 minutes. I'm definitely getting closer to the problem but haven't found the exact software preference causing the issue yet.

  • Mac Pro Freezing upon wakeup

I installed SL on both my Macbook Pro and my Mac Pro desktop. No problems with the laptop but the desktop is freezing upon wake up. If you click on items on the dock they bounce forever and my wheel pointer spins continuously. Computer doesn't come back and needs a hard shutdown.
Any ideas how to fix this only upon startup from sleep? The Mac Pro is about a month old.

The problem continues to plague me. I'm almost positive it's connected to the external drives both USB. One just regular WD mybook USB drive. The other is my time machine backup. After I unplugged the WD drive computer performed a little better but as soon as it accessed the time machine drive started freezing again. I reformatted the time machine drive and am hoping that solves the problem but have not have a chance to check it. Overall not very impressed with this install. The Macbook pro that's 3 yrs old is fairing okay. But Mac pro that was only a month old now seems to be plagued with problems. I've never had this much trouble with a MAC OS upgrade. Would be one thing if this was my only problem but spaces is acting up and WoW is crashing now because of the upgrade too.

  • Wifi "activates" upon Control Center swipe

This is my second iPhone 5S because of this problem, so I believe it's specific to my setup.
    =====
iPhone 5S 7.0.4, Verizon 15.5, Linksys WRT54GL router, 4.30.16 firmware that I've already defaulted and setup again, WPA2-Personal TKIP+AES, Comcast ISP.
All other devices (Kindle Fire HD, iPhone 5c, iPhone 4, iPad 2, MacBook Pro, bluray players, etc) work just fine.
My second 5S, when on LTE only and other wifi networks, works just fine. However, when I connect to mine, it won't "activate" until I swipe up on the Control Center then kicks in right away (you can see pages and apps load in the translucent background).
    Thoughts?

Have you tried resetting the phone? Press the sleep/wake button and the Home button together and hold them down until the Apple logo appears on the screen (10-15 secs), then let the two buttons go and allow phone to finish restarting. Then go into Settings/Wi-Fi and set it on, then check Control Center.

  • IMac not connecting to wifi on startup/wakeup with only one preferred network

New (June 2012) imac.  When it wakes from sleep/powers up, it searches for the only network that i have under preferred - can't find it.  I open network prefs.  Occasionally there is also a connection timout in there....  It says the computer has a self assigned IP.  I turn Wifi off.  On again.  It (usually) connects.
I know a million other people have variations on this problem.  But most of the recs involve clearing known networks.  This computer has only ever connected to one and it's the only one on the list.    ANy thoughts?
Recently upgraded to 10.8 but was having this issue with 10.7.4 out of the box.
Phones/laptops connect to same network with no issue.

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK.
    Also, turn off IPv6:
    System Preferences » Network » AirPort » TCP/IP tab » Configure IPv6
    Or whatever Interface you use.

  • Wifi hangs on wakeup if Time Machine running

OS X Lion: If time machine is running when I lift the lid on my MB Pro sometimes, but not always, the wifi shows as having no connection. Networks are visible but none are current, selecting one quietly does nothing. If I turn wifi off from the menu bar it quietly shows wifi as off but checking in System Prefs shows it's still running. Turning it off in System Prefs sets the waity spinny icon going forever. If I stop Time Machine backing up, when it finally cleans up my wifi comes back again and everything returns to normal. Obviously this is frustrating, it can take sometimes 5 minutes to get wifi back again.
    Thoughts, Suggestions?
    thanks.

Just wanted everybody to know that I'm running 10.7.1 and I have the same exact problem on both of my MB Airs (13" 2008 and 11" 2010 models). All is fine if lid is not closed while time machine is running. I'm not patient enough to wait time machine to stop running since that seems to take forever without connectivity to backup disk. I have instead resorted to force rebooting my laptops in problematic cases. Hope it is a known issue and the fix is coming in near future.

  • Upon wakeup from sleep, external display is not detected

Hello. I have a mini display port to vga and have an external display hooked up to my 15" macbook pro. Once I put the macbook pro to sleep, and then wake it up, it turns to a blue screen (the kind when you plug in or remove an external monitor), and then prompts me for my password. Does anyone else have this issue? I think it might be because I did not buy the "official" mini display port to vga adapter (got mine from monoprice), and want to know if anyone has this issue using the official adapter. Thanks.

Exactly the same issue.  My Eizo Coloredge was working fine after installation until (just now) I dared to do a restart...
I have tried various different displays and connections over the past 20 minutes and have restarted my mac (late 2013 MBP 15' Retina) and connected / disconnected multiple times.  Neither my Coloredge via Thunderbolt or HDMI (no signal detected) is recognised, nor a Samsung LCD via HDMI.
SO frustrating that something this basic should now be 'broken' when it was fine under Mavericks (and earlier OS).  Come on Apple, let's get a fix.  Plenty of people rely on external monitors.
    Sigh.

  • Thinkpad Twist 33474HU Wifi Unavailable After Windows Update

After a Windows update back in late October my wireless service stopped working indicating "The Windows wireless service is not running on this computer".  I rolled back to an pre update and wireless worked again.  A few days later Windows update ran once again and wireless stopped working.  I am not able to roll back to a time that wireless works anymore.  I am running Windows 8.1 and have tried the following:
    1) Uninstall Wireless driver and let auto install the latest driver
    2) Downloaded the latest wireless driver from the Lenovo website and installed
    3) Uninstalled the WLan hardware and let Windows recognize the hardware
    4) Tried to manually start the WLan autoconfig service but, it says
Windows could not start the WLAN autoconfig service on local computer.  Error 1068:  The dependency service or group failed to start.
I also tried starting the dependent services
    5) Uninstalled all Windows updates back to October 17 and tried wireless with no success.
Couldn't find any suggestions on the internet any more specific than the above, can anyone suggest something to help?  I am at the point of doing a clean install to get my wireless back.

    Hi duckgang,
    Welcome to the community.
Reinstalling your system is probably your best bet right now.
By experience I never install updates related to hardware from windows update, just install the important one not the optional (especially drivers).

Sometimes when I wake my Mac up in the morning, I hear several "Mail send" sounds in a row. This morning it was 15. When I go to Mail I don't see any activity, and there's nothing in my "Sent Mail" box to show for all those sounds. What's the deal? Is this a known issue? Have I been hacked?

  • Windows 7 Blue screen upon wakeup

My HP Pavilion p2 desktop PC running Windows 7 has been having a problem where if the computer is in sleep mode, I wake it up and it goes to where it's supposed to, then it goes to a blue screen. I have attached the picture with what it said.I have tried several things to remedy this, including a factory reset (twice), SFC scan (which said that there were problem that Windows cannot fix, how do I fix those problems, and will it fix this problem?), disk cleanup/defrag, and a clean boot, which yielded no result. This all leads me to believe that there is a problem with a crucial file within Windows. I read something about Microsoft Security Essentials causing a problem, which is what I was using on this computer, and I have since uninstalled it, and the blue screen is still happening. The only programs I had installed before I can remember the problem starting were MSE, Ccleaner, and Google Chrome. The computer runs fine otherwise. It seems a little slow sometimes, but everything else seems okay. I have opened it up and inspected everything, re-seated the memory, and blew out the dust. I don't think there is a problem with any hardware. I ran a scan in BIOS, and everything (RAM, Hard drive, etc.) came back as good.

Hello , I have read your post on how your desktop computer's display screen shows a blue screen, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter! To correct this issue, I recommend following any remaining steps in this document on Computer Locks Up or Freezes (Windows 7), which should prevent your system from waking up to a blue screen in the future. If the issue continues, please contact our technical support for further assistance in this matter by clicking the link below to get the support number for your region.
