WiFi Woes with Broadcom 4313

I am trying to get my wifi working on the network at my school, and it refuses to do so. I use wicd to connect, but it has trouble obtaining the IP address. I ran dhcpcd and dhclient manually after configuring, and it returns with
No DHCPOFFERS received.
The wifi works on my home network with WPA-PSK encryption, but not here with no encryption. I know that almost all ports are blocked on the network, so I tried broadcasting on a different port to no avail. This network still works on this laptop under Windows 7, so I am unsure of what to do. I tried getting the automatically discovered settings from Windows, and assigning them statically to the interface, but that doesn't work either.
I am using the broadcom-wl driver, as the brcmsmac one had a bad signal. I have another wifi module at home, but I really don't want to open up the laptop as it is under warranty.
Thanks,
Jacob

I managed to fix it by.....well, I'm not really sure. I just rebooted some more, and it seemed to fix itself. I would provide more info if I could, but I find it aggravating that I worked on it for three hours before it just fixed itself.

  • Issues with broadcom 4313 wifi card on a samsung NP305

    Hi
I'm currently having issues with getting the wifi to work on my broadcom 4313 wifi card on a Samsung NP305U1A. The command
      lspci -vnn | grep 14e4
returns 14e4:4727, so according to the wiki, I chose the "brcmsmac" driver. I blacklisted correctly b43, bcma in the /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf file, rebuilded the mkinitpcio image, so when I type lsmod now, the only wifi modules loaded in my kernel are :
      brcmsmac 569864 0
      mac80211 221981 1 brcmsmac
      brcmutil 6912 1 brcmsmac
      cfg80211 165796 2 brcmsmac, mac80211
I still don't see the wlan0 appearing when I type ifconfig though.
    Would you have any advices?
    Thank you very much,

    Hi everybody!
I've found a solution for this problem (at LinLap, see pierre comment on Feb-24-2012) and it worked for my Linux Mint installation. On " /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf" I didn't have the "blacklist b43" line, it was only on a previous comment line, but I commented the next line (it was similar) and added the same blacklist at end of file.
    Uninstall the 'Broadcom Sta' driver
    Open the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
    Delete the line:
    blacklist b43
Add these two lines at the end of the file:
    blacklist bcma
    blacklist brcmsmac
    Save and exit
    Type:
    sudo apt-get remove –purge bcmwl-kernel-source
    Reboot
    Type:
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source
    Reboot
    Select the 'Broadcom Sta' driver
Best regards and I hope this works for you too

  • Linksys AE1200 wifi adapter with Broadcom BCM43235 driver not working

I followed the instructions on the Broadcom wireless page from ArchWiki, and I tried every method, and none worked at all. The interface never showed up with "ifconfig -a", and I could not get ndiswrapper to work with the windows drivers either. Any suggestions for alternate ways?

wolfo9999 wrote:but I know that the os detects it because it shows up in lsusb
That doesn't say anything except that the device is powered on. It does not say anything about the OS. The OS should know something, the docs claim that the brcmfmac driver supports it, but you haven't provided any info for us to know what's going on. ewaller gave you the hint: dmesg. Also exact lsusb output would be nice, so we'll know the usb-id of the device.

  • [SOLVED]WiFi problem (broadcom 4313)

    Aloha,
I have a problem with broadcom 4313 wireless chipset. After clean installation of the system ip link set wlp1s0 up returned rf-kill error. It was a hsrdware block. I downloaded broadcom-wl driver from AUR, makepkg it and pacman -U it. Then rmmod ssb; rmmod bcma; modprobe wl. After that I was able to  ip link set wlp1s0 up. The interface is UP! But in NetwarkManager (gnome applet) or in wicd I can't connect any network (the list of available networks is empty) while I am able to estabilish wired (ethernet) connection.
    Thank's for the future answers!

  • TX2500 (and other TX's??) with BROADCOM 4321 WiFi cards, Win7

Maybe I'm the only one here with this problem, although given HP's history, I doubt that very much. So I have a TX2510z, and even though I customized the heck out of this thing,  for some silly reason, I didn't buy the Intel WiFi card. (My Bad, never again!!). I have had almost continual problems with the WiFi connecting to Enterprise class wireless access points. (Such as Cisco, Sonicwall, and a couple others.) I've NEVER had a problem with residential class AP's (Linksys blue boxes, D-Link, Belkin, Etc.) I've replaced the WiFI card like three times now (thank Greyskull I DID buy the extended warranty and ADR package!!!!) I spent more hours talking to a "Service Case Manager" than I did to my wife for a while there. I finally had had enough, and in a fit of loathing, upgraded to Win 7 (enterprise 64), hoping that a more advanced OS would have better drivers. It kinda did, for a while. Almost all features of the WiFi card were working until yesterday. All of a sudden I lost all of my associations, and had to re-connect to them with the wizard. Oddly, one of the Ciscos I had been using, I couldnt add manually now. I had to use the wizard. WHen I came home to my Belkin, which had been flawless to this point wasn't even visible to the TX now. ALL of my other devices were interacting with the Belkin appropriately. I even attempted to manually add with a fixed IP addy, but it was like it wasn't there. It was exactly how the TX had been acting under Vista. Randomly ignoring AP's. I was about an inch from throwing the whole thing out into the snow. I happened to find a link which appears to have solved my problems (at least for now). :::
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=uk&prodTypeId=32...
And here is the forum thread I found it in. :::
    Microsoft Support Forum
As I  said, so far its working. I will find out how it manages the Ciscos tomorrow at work. If anyone has been having the WiFi issue with their TX series and Broadcom WiFi, please post something so I at least know I'm not alone/ crazy. I hope this post can help if you are haveing these issues.

I'd say go with Middleton BIOS either way (SATA II). In which case, get a newfangled 802.11ac card while you're at it.

  • ISA500 / ISA570W Wifi woes

    Hi,
We have an ISA570w but the wifi has issues dropping out, during the "drop out" users are still connected but performance drops to the point that pinging a (wired) machine takes 7ms!
I have checked the firmware and it is up to date (1.2.20) the logs is full of messages about not being able to phone-home but nothing about wifi or networking (the phoning-home problem apparently is about DNS so not related)
Has anyone any ideas either or how to fix this or diagnose it?

There seems to be an issue in Broadcom computer WIFI (BCM 43xx) with Windows 8 below. It runs well with Windows 7.

  • WiFi issues with Curve 8530

    Hi,
I am having major WiFi issues with my Curve 8530. Everytime I connect to my wireless router, it takes a long time to connect to BIS, and then if I try to use basically any data at all, my router drops my Curve 8530. Sometimes it stays connected, but I cannot use App World at all, and email, and web browsing is all over the place in terms of speed, sometimes it is fast, while sometimes it is slow, and most of the time it stalls while loading a page. How do I configure my router for use with BIS and have it not drop my Curve 8530 everytime I use data over WiFi? BIS works perfectly over my cellular carriers network, so BIS is activated on my device. I have tried giving my BB a static IP, but that did not solve anything. My router is a Netgear WNR2000. Also, I have the latest device software installed on my BB, and all of my apps are up-to-date.

    Hi,
Have you had any luck and resolving your problem?
We have a similar problem but it's with iOS devices where only one can connect at a time. We have about 10 that need to connect. All other laptops and tablets connect fine.
Power cycling the AX411 fixes it temporarly.

  • New download of keynote files when changing wifi network with iPad

When i change the Wifi Network with my ipad3 (without 3G) it always starts to download the keynote, numbers and pages files from the iCloud. You can't open any file until its downloaded again, you just see the Folder and the file as a placeholder.
In my opinion this Akers totally no sense. I expect a synchronization between iPad and the iCloud like it woks with mail, kalender.  Even dropbox just downloads the file you select for use. In my case I have 64 files only in keynote, created on the iPad and eaven without changing something it will re download all files from the iCloud before I can use them.
    Anybodydid the same experience ?
Is this a bug or a really shh.... Feature?

No that's not my experience, it's clearly not working as it should. Perhaps you should restore your iPad.

  • Why is my iPhone 5's iMessage not working in wifi connection consistently? (wifi works with apps/web no issues)

My iPhone 5 (newly updated to 6.0.2) will not send messages in iMessage all the time-very inconsistent.  The wifi works with my phone when I use apps/search the web with no issues all of the time.  For an unspecified time span, iMessage will sometimes send and receive messages, but for the most part will give me the error message: Message Send Failure.  My iMessage & facetime is activated on my device for my phone and email addresses. I am in another country currently and solely rely on wifi for my connection and have turned off my data.  I have toggled my wifi, turned off my phone, and reset my phone and still haven't had any luck.  Any help is greatly appreciated as to why my phone is having these issues in a perfectly fine working wifi connection. (another iPhone 5 user has no issues in the wifi)

Have you tried a complete reset/restore iOS 7?
Back up your iPhone to iCloud and/or iTunes.
Open iTunes and make sure you have the latest version (11.1).
Plug your iPhone into your computer.
On the Summary screen, click Restore next to (Check for Updates). This will reset your phone to factory settings and reinstall iOS 7.
After iOS 7 has been reinstalled, you can restore your back up from iCloud or iTunes.

  • Wifi problems with new ipad

I'm trying to learn how to correct wifi problems with new iPad.  It is the wifi only, 64GB model.  I want to be able to use it at work, where we have a great wifi network.  I can usually connect to our network with no problem, but after an hour or so my iPad loses the network.  When I try to reconnect, I see that the network is showing full strength reception, but I get the error message from the iPad that I am "Unable to join" the network.  My iPhone connects to the same network seamlessly, as do all of the other iPhones of my co-workers and the older generation iPads that some of our staff has.
At other locations, I typically have no problems (home, apple store, etc.) but I have had the same situation pop up at a coffee shop where I could see that there was a wifi network available, but I could not join it even though it was the shop's free wifi.
I have tried turning the iPad off, turning off wifi and turning it back on again, and forgetting the wifi network in question.  I can't think of any other methods that are available to an end user to correct the problem.
I have already gone to the Apple store to swap out the unit, and the newer one is having the same symptoms.
Can anyone offer any advice here?  This is quite frustrating.

  • Wifi problems with my iPhone 4S since 6.1.2 update

I thought I had fixed this problem with my iPhone with a change in my home router settings but I did not.  Since the 6.1.2 update I have had problems with my wifi connections.  I have an Airport Extreme wifi network with multiple airport extremes extending the signal throughout our house.  I am only able to communicate with the internet using our wifi network if I am in the same room as the main airport extreme.  If I am a room away from any of the routers I get a message that my iPhone "can't join the wireless network".  If I am in a room standing near one of the other airport extremes I can join the network, my iPhone will show that I am connected to the wifi network with a full signal but I have no communication with the internet.  How I have determined this is by turning cellular off, wifi on & attempted to pull up a web page.  When I do this anywhere other than by our main Airport Extreme I get the message that I am not connected to the Internet.
We have multiple other devices on our home wifi network, i.e. other iPhones, iPads, computers, etc. We aren't having this problem with any other of our devices.  I am not sure if this is a software corruption issue or a hardware issue. I have not dropped my iPhone or done anything else to it that might have damaged it.  I have tried resetting the wireless networks on my iPhone & that has not worked. I have read these boards & have tried the various suggestions, including the one about putting your iPhone in the freezer.  (When I told my husband about trying the freezer suggestion he seriously thought I had lost my marbles...)
I would appreciate any other thoughts or suggestions that anyone has.

I have a diff issue!!! I has still able to connect to wifi network I had connected before the update to 6.1.2. But few days back when I tried connecting to a new wifi network and it kept saying incorrect password. The worst thing happened after I look up online for help that say try the " reset network setting" solution!! After I did the "reset network setting" step I bloody **** looses all connection to those network I had connected to before the update and I can't get back connection now. *** did apple still allow their users to update a software that has so many bugs. They should had prevent their users from updating right after they know there are bugssssss..!!!!!

  • Connection timeout on hotel wifi - only with MacBook8.1 (810.9)  configd plug-in:8.1 (810.9)

I'm having a "Connection Timeout" issue while trying to connect to my hotel's WIFI.
I bought an ex-lease refurbished white MacBook (Build 12E55 - 2.4GHz, the last 2010 model I think) a couple of weeks ago. I bought it so I could use it while on vacation in Bali, Indonesia. I've got OS X 10..8.4 installed.
At home in Australia, this MacBook connected to my home WIFI with absolutely no issues at all.
Now that I'm in Bali, I'm surprised to find that every time I try to connect to the WIFI at the hotel (where I'm staying for a whole month), I get a "Connection Timeout" error. I'm surprised because my iPhone connects to the hotel WIFI with no problem at all, as does our two iPads and the Android phones that belong to other family members. It's only my MacBook that struggles, even though I get even better signal strength indicated on my MacBook compared to my other devices.
I can connect my MacBook to my iPhone hotspot fine, though I'd prefer to use the free hotel WIFI over my very small 3G data allowance.
So the problem isn't that my MacBook can't connect to any WIFI, because it did at home and it still can to my iPhone hotspot.
And the problem isn't with the router, because all other devices work flawlessly.
I've trawled many forums and articles trying to find a solution. Here's everything I've tried already, that I can remember. (Not in this order and not all at once.)
    Rebooted MacBook (duh)
Sitting directly under the WIFI router. (It's not a signal strength issue.)
Set up new Network > Location. Deleted Ethernet and Bluetooth PAN so it's just WIFI in the list.
    Renewed DHCP Lease countless times.
Tried manual TCP/IP variations. It doesn't help that I'm not sure what to put in the IPv4 Address field. I do know the Subnet Mask and Router IP from looking at my iPhone network info.
Tried using my MAC address as the DHCP Client ID. Also tried just using "1" or leaving it blank.
I don't know what an IPv6 is either.
Tried BootP and completely Manual setups but not really sure of the correct settings to try.
Tried using the DNS servers that I found on my iPhone network info for the hotel WIFI. (One of them is 8.8.8.8 which I think is Google's DNS thing?)
Tried checking Auto Proxy Discovery and Use Passive FTP Mode, since it was suggested as part of a solution in a forum thread.
Tried changing the MTU to a couple of other settings from an article I read. I think one was around 1453 and the other was 1494 or something close to that.
    Tried resetting PRAM
    Tried resetting SMC
Tried a variation on resetting SMC that involved pressing down the normal keys plus one extra, for 10 secs, since it worked for someone who was told to do that by an Apple Care person. (He didn't know why it worked and other forum posters thought it was supposed to have been a SMC reset.)
Checked the Network> Wi-Fi in System Information to see if the Channel is compatible. The router uses Channel 1 and my MacBook is capable of using Channel 1.
Checked my country profile. It's X1. I have no idea if that's good. All I know is that I'm in Indonesia not Australia and I'm having WIFI issues with this hotel network.
Checked the PHY Mode. Supported are 802.11 a/b/g/n. The hotel router uses 802.11n.
Made sure I was using WPA2 Personal.
Tried deleting all WIFI-related passwords in Keychain.
Tried deleting all Network-related preference files.
Tried removing all LaunchDaemons and LaunchAgents.
It's not a "lost WIFI connection when waking from sleep" issue but I tried turning off sleep anyway.
My husband even had the nerve to unplug the hotel router (small hotel, we're the only guests at the moment) for 10 minutes hoping it will reboot. But I don't know if that's the actual modem or just a WIFI repeater thing (sorry, can't remember the right terms). It didn't work anyway.
I've run out of options, other than just sucking it up and getting a big 3G data allowance since I'm here for a month.
If there is anything else I can try - perhaps working out how to set up my Network manually properly, please help me out. Here is everything in System Information that might help. I'll happily provide any other info.

Can't connect to the internet in my home yet other devices can. I tried it in other wifi places and it connects without a problem. My home wifi is with ATT Uverse. I cheched the IP address on my laptop and its different than on my Ipod although it on the same network.

Move off WEP to WPA or, preferably, to WPA2 (as recommended by Apple). WEP has been deprecated by the WiFi Alliance since 2004 as insecure (it can be cracked in seconds by any hacker).
Note that each device on a network has a unique IP address but if your address starts with 169 then you did not get a valid IP address assigned to you by your router. If restarting the router did not cure the problem then you should check for a firmware update for your router.
