Wifi won't work AT ALL since upgrading to lion - HOW DO I DOWNGRADE?!

computer:
2x3ghz quad-core intel xeon mac pro
10gb ram
i just upgraded the mac pro to lion, and now i can't connect to the internet via wifi AT ALL. i've tried all the solutions on this site and none work.
i'm a web developer and this is my main computer. it's useless if i can't use the internet. i need to know how to DOWNGRADE the OS ASAP if apple doesn't have a fix by tomorrow morning. (which i highly doubt... seeing their recent track record)
can anyone help?
ps: hey apple, do you hear us at all? this is not acceptible!

Just a suggestion but if you use this Mac Pro professionally and absolutely must have it in order to make your living, you probably need to have a complete backup of your entire system before you do ANY upgrade. One nice thing about the Mac Pro - lots of space for drives.
If you need immediate help - call Apple at the appropriate phone number on this page. They typically do not respond to posts made here. We are just other users like yourself.
Best of luck.

I can no longer use the swipe gesture to move between pages on Firefox since upgrading to Lion.  I have tried it on both the Magic trackpad and the magic mouse. Anyone else haviong this issue?

I, too, have that issue.  I've seen posts by folks who have changed the swipe gesture in system preferences.  But I can't get that to work.  I like the swipe gesture so much that I am using Safari for now.  Maybe a solution will be found in the future.  I hope so as I really prefer FF.

  • Korg Nanopad not working in Garageband since upgrading to Lion

I've just upgraded to Lion and the new update to Garageband but have found that my Korg Nanopad's not working anymore. I've got a Nanokey and that's fine but not the Nanopad. I've Downloaded and installed all new drivers etc... but still no luck and strangely now I can only get Mac to recognise one midi input at one time where I used to get the ability to run two at once in Snow Leopard. I get the light on the unit and when I tap the XY pad, I see a little dot appear in Garagebands LED area but none of the pads are making sounds like they used to. Not sure if it's a note mapping issue but have hit the frustrated level now.
I'm hoping someone can shed some light as it used to be pluginplay goodness.
    Many thanks.

Have you tried using the editor? to set the notes on the Nano? Maybe something in your set up got wiped in the updates?

  • My daughters bluetooth keyboard won't work with voiceover since upgrading to iOS 8.1 - how can i fix this?

My daughter has a Greatshield bluetooth keyboard which she has been using successfully in school with her iPad mini. she is blind and uses voiceover to navigate and to have what she has typed read back to her.
Since updating to iOS 8.1 the keyboard no longer works when voiceover is on but does when voiceover if off. My daughter is not able to use it without voiceover.
    Any suggestions?

Was in the Apple Stor this morning in Indianapolis and picked up a Bluetooth keyboard to use with my iPad mini 2. Sadly neither I nor staff could get it to work with voiceover working. The staff, both sales and tech, appeared as shocked as I was. I was surprised that over 6 months Apple had not fixed this issue. Now I am wasting my time trying to back up reports of this problem on Apple's website. I know Apple over the last 10 years had given a lot of us so many advancements, but maybe that's changing? All I know is that as a busy professional, Apple has cost me about 4 hours of lost productivity today. I wish I could charge them for it!

  • Safari works great on my iMac, but not so well on my Macbook Pro since upgrading to Lion.  I get a message that I am not connected to the internet when I try to open a webpage even though the wireless icon at the top of my screen shows I am connected.

Since upgrading to Lion I am having problems with Safari on my Macbook Pro.  I am using wifi to access the internet and the internet works in all other application except for Safari.  When I try to access a webpage most times I get a error message saying I am not connected to the internet.  If I click on diagnose the problem, I get connect again to the internet through the diagnostic process and the webpage generally works.  This is not a problem when wired to the internet.

Check your network settings, in particular the advanced setting "DNS Server". If it is by chance 127.0.0.1, make sure to change is and use a know DNS Server (from Google for example, or your own Router local address).

Ok so I'll try to word this as best as possible. Basically, my family recently got a new wifi network. It works perfectly fine on my iphone, ipad, and all of my family member's macs, phones, and ipads. When I used my mad mini for the first time since getting a new network, the wifi won't work on it. it says i have 3 bars when I am connected to the new network, but when i try to use safari, it won't load. i even tried using chrome so the browser is not the issue. what do i do to fix it? i've already tried restarting my computer and all of that stuff.

I can't post a screenshot because the internet on my conputer doesn't work. I'll just type it out:

  • Since upgrading to Lion, iCal event invitations are not working well.

Since upgrading to Lion last week, I am having problems with sending iCal event invitations to large groups of people (say 10 people or more). Although my iMac, iPhone, and iPad iCals show that invitations have been sent, only a few of those invited have actually received event invite emails.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so, any insight into the problem or solution?
    Thanks in advance.

    If you want.
or maybe install Snow Leopard using the disc it came on with my Mac and just set it up from a Time Machine Backup on my external hard drive (since it works under SL)?
Did you install Lion on an empty partition, or did you upgrade Snow Leopard?  If you upgraded, I'd not recommend erasing it, since your backups are apparently gone.  It's doubtful Snow Leopard will recognize them.
It's not just backups on the drive either, there are other important things on there, so why won't they show?
Mixing Time Machine backups and other data is not a good idea.  See #3 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  It sounds like the whole disk is corrupted.
I just really don't understand how this happened. Could it not be an issue with WD because they haven't issued firmware to support Lion yet?
If this is a simple external HD, connected by USB or FireWire, no, unless you installed some of WD's software on it.  That shouldn't prevent it from being seen at all, but anything's possible.

  • After installing Maverick my computer, when restarted, only a gray screen appeared. My computer won't work at all...what happened?

After installing Maverick my computer shut down and when it restarted I couldn't get to the home screen. The monitor was grey with some dark grey shapes, it sounded like it was constantly running a program. My computer is sick!! HELP

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a startup failure is to secure the data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since the last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to start. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
         a. Start up from the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    b. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, start the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    c. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
If the startup process stops at a blank gray screen with no Apple logo or spinning "daisy wheel," then the startup volume may be full. If you had previously seen warnings of low disk space, this is almost certainly the case. You might be able to start up in safe mode even though you can't start up normally. Otherwise, start up from an external drive, or else use either of the techniques in Steps 1b and 1c to mount the internal drive and delete some files. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation.
    Step 3
Sometimes a startup failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 4
If you use a wireless keyboard, trackpad, or mouse, replace or recharge the batteries. The battery level shown in the Bluetooth menu item may not be accurate.
    Step 5
If there's a built-in optical drive, a disc may be stuck in it. Follow these instructions to eject it.
    Step 6
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to start up, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can start up now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
    Step 7
If you've started from an external storage device, make sure that the internal startup volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
Start up in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know the login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you start up in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, the startup volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 10. If you ever have another problem with the drive, replace it immediately.
If you can start and log in in safe mode, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then restart as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the startup process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 8
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select the startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then restart as usual.
    Step 9
Reinstall the OS. If the Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 10
Do as in Step 9, but this time erase the startup volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically restart into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer the data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 11
This step applies only to models that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery: all Mac Pro's and some others (not current models.) Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery, if there is one, is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a startup failure. Typically the failure will be preceded by loss of the settings for the startup disk and system clock. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
    Step 12
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem does not disappear when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.

While we all have MacBooks in this forum most of us don’t run Mountain Lion. There's a Mountain Lion Support Community where everybody has Mountain Lion. • WiFi won't work on Mountain Lion

    Hello,
I installed Mountain Lion yesterday and all went ok until I noticed that my WiFi isn't working. WiFi seems to be connected to my MacBookPro, that's what indicates the sign in the upper right corner (full WiFi). If I start Safari, Mail, App Store and iTunes internet won't work. All worked fine with Lion. On other Apple devices and Windows computers in our house WiFi works perfectly.
    Ethernet works.
Does anyone have any suggestions what to do?

If you are attempting to use a WiFi connection between the iMac and the Time Capsule, I would suggest the following as a possibility.  If you haven't already, on your "iMac" open your Applications folder>click on "Utilities">click on "Airport Utility">there you should see an icon with your Time Capsule showing, and there should be a Green light icon. Then click on the icon for the Time Capsule, which will bring up a box with an "Edit" button.  Click on "Edit" and there you will find the Basestation,Wireless, Network, etc. buttons.  Click on each, one at a time.  You should check that each of those is completed properly.  Then, go back to the "Applications" folder>System Preferences>Network>here Unlock the "Padlock" icon in the lower left corner of the window by clicking on it and entering your Passwword>turn "On" the WiFi lisitng in the column of networks above there.  Hopefully this all will resolve your issues.

I'm using an iPhone 4S and although I can call and text normally, my phone's 3G won't work at all. My wifi sometimes also gets those little errors too from time to time. Is it possible to have that kind of problem in the iPhone 4S?

Computer is balky random freezes across apps. Two hard drive cleans later (their scan reveals no hard drive problems) photo shop won't work at all, magic touch mouse inoperable and their diagnoses is corrupted data? Anybody heard of this?

Well, yes, data does get corrupted sometimes.
The trick is finding what data.
By 'cleaned' are you therefor meaning that the drive has been erased and the system re-installed?
Because that's the quickest way to deal with such a situation.
Back up the system first of course,
Add back 3rd party apps one at a time in case one of them is causing the problem.

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

If anyone has a solution for this stupid problem that would be great.
    Thanks

Yes, I suspect that it's the virtual drive emulator software you have there. I know nothing about that software and it doesn't look like the Roxio support page even mentions it, so it's probably software old enough that they're not supporting it anymore.
To uninstall any software, I would start with the "Add and Remove Programs" Control Panel. Uninstall it there, and then use the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility —
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=290301
Download and install that. Run it and find the drive emulator software on the list and remove it there. And reboot and see if that has successfully removed it.
There is a work around that if we just remove the iTunes CD driver, you'll probably get your drive back, but you'll only be able to rip CDs, you won't be able to burn them without the iTunes CD driver installed. You do have some Pinnacle CD burning software installed. Are you currently using that or is that leftover cruft as well?
