I'd like to write a wiki for the WICD wifi tool, but...

I'd like to write an Arch wiki for the new python-based wicd utility in AUR, but I can't get some of the basic features working. If someone can provide some Arch-specific info, we can get a detailed HOW-TO going for others...
So far, I've installed it, have it running as a daemon and in the tray. It only connects to a wired network if I provide it with a static IP. Without the static info, it tries to connect and then after a few seconds says, "Not connected".
Wireless on the other hand, doesn't work at all. I use a WPA-TKIP connection to a hidden SSID. My wpa_supplicant.conf is already configured (I was using wifi-radar previously). If I try connecting without specifying a static IP, I get the same results as with the wired connection (after a few seconds it says, "not connected"). If I provide a static IP, it says "Connected to Hidden at 0%", but I can't ping anything or resolve hosts.
I've completely uninstalled networkmanager and wifi-radar and currently my rc.conf settings look like this (based on a post from an admin at the wicd forums):

I've tried removing the eth0 entry as well, to see if it was conflicting with wicd, but had the same results. I've also tried removing network altogether, but then lo isn't brought up and it causes lag issues with desktop apps.
My wpa_supplicant.conf looks like this:

Hmm that's odd, have you asked this on their forum? The admin adam uses WICD in Arch too iirc. It is simple to install since it's just a few files and scripts, but the problem comes when it needs to cater to each one of our connection types.
So far I have tried both and they work, but that's only with ethernet cable (dynamic IP, dhcp, direct, no router), open wifi.
Your wireless issue may be due to the type of connection and encryption, or how wpa_supplicant relates to network managers in this case wicd (like when it calls up the former). Because as far as i know, wpa_supplicant by itself is only a secure wlan utility and there shouldn't be a problem, but I don't understand why you're not able to get wired up. What kinda wired is it?

Most WPA networks will work easily with Connection Manager, but some may require additional work. If you WPA network does not work with the default Connection Manager settings, edit /opt/connection-manager/data/wpa_supplicant.conf using normal wpa_supplicant syntax (see man wpa_supplicant.conf for more info). This is the configuration file Connection Manager will use to launch wpa_supplicant.
Which means it's supposed to be pretty straight forward and you shouldn't be facing this situation. The only things I can think of are the configuration of the supplicant or the driver.

Is it possible for widgets in dashboard to float over other windows?

I'm trying to assess features in Mavericks in comparison to Snow Leopard (the OS I'm most familiar with). I usually read the Missing Manual for the new OSes, but haven't gotten to all areas yet - it's a big book!
Is it possible for widgets in dashboard to float over other windows?
I want to be able to see the calculator widget for example while I'm also working in a Bills template document in Word, or over my back account page while viewing in Safari. Or look at words in Thesaurus while viewing a document I'm writing in Word, or even an email in Mail. In OS 10.6 widgets on the dashboard float above the other windows, but I can see them both at the same time. It looks like Dashboard is all by itself in Mavericks. Is this the case and the only way to view widgets now, is by themselves in their own isolated environment? Any work around?

You can assign a "hot corner" with System preferences > Mission Control > Hot corners to bring up your dashboard anytime you want quickly by moving the mouse to the corner. Works really well.

HT2492 unable to swipe for widgets

My Mac's function of swiping left for widgets has stopped working. I have check & make sure "Show Dashboard as a space" is checked in Mission Control preferences...help!!!

The control and left/right arrow keys will move you to the various desktops. I didn't see a way to configue the trackpad to swipe between desktops in System Preferences.

Wiki/Blog Widgets

I am looking for templates and widgets that work with OS X Server Wiki and Blog pages. I figured out how to embed youtube videos into the pages but I need to upload pictures but the pictures show up full size and not small and with the ability to click the image to show it in a larger size if you desire. I am looking for things like you'd get with google blogger and iWeb Bloging and such. It seems like a well designed server with these services would have a well built setup for building very good high quality blogs and wiki pages. Some of the stuff I like but mostly it's pretty plain Jane.
Any ideas or am I just missing something here. I use blogger for now.
What I want is a way to present Keynote and iBooks on the web without having to resort to downloading or getting an iPad. I still have no need for an iPad nor do my Students. But having a way for them to look at text books like iBooks Author can build but not be restricted to the iPad but yet retain the functionality of the iBook would be perfect.

When you make a page you have the option to add into the page an html snippet. Insert the snippet then go to the youtube video you want and then choose embed and snag the embed code and past it into the html snippet then save your page.

I have Verizon FiOS service for phone, internet and TV but I only have one TV hooked up for it for just basic cable service with no DVR and no need for widgets. Can I use an Airport Extreme as my router and not use the FiOs router?

I want to use an Airport Extreme as my router. I currently have a Verizon FiOS router. I have Verizon for phone, internet and TV. However, TV-wise, I just have a basic service for one TV with just a regular box. No HD, no DVR. Don't need access to a menu, widgets, on-demand. Can I eliminate the FiOS Router and just use the Airport Extreme and still have phone and internet?

I know that it will increase my wireless coverage in my house but will it increase the speeds?
Not sure what you are asking here. The AirPort Extreme is only going to be as fast as the Internet connection that it receives.....which is 75/75. It cannot take a 75/75 connection and make it go any faster.
If you locate the AirPort Extreme in an area where you need more wireless signal coverage, the AirPort Extreme would deliver 75/75 in that area. But, keep in mind that the AirPort Extreme must connect to the FIOS router using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection.
If you are asking if the AirPort Extreme can wirelessly connect to the FIOS modem router, and extend the FIOS wireless network, the AirPort Extreme would not be compatible with a FIOS product for that purpose.

Animation in Indesign CS6 export as a HTML for widget in iBA?

For me it`s the first question. I would like to animate pictures in iBooks Author. So I know about the tool hype. But I would like to use Indesign CS6 to create Animation files. I create a simple animation in CS6, export as a swf-file. Now I receive example.swf and example.html. Create a new folder with Default.png, Info.plist and example.html. The .swf file is in a folder named SWF. Next I create the folder a .wdgt. Import in iBooks I read the main html-file is missing.
Is my way possible: CS6 animation as a widget in iBooks Author? Or is it better to use other tools in the world of Apple like hype for example?

"iOS doesn't support swf as this is the exported verison of a Flash file. Putting the swf file into a widget won't change that fact.
As sb0117 mentions, your best bet is to look at HTML5 animation."
I wouldn't use Hype to create your assets as it's really quite limited in that respect, but create the assets in Photoshop and import into HYPE to create animation.
I'd also do a couple of test files to check how the resulting animations look, full-screen on the iPad.
Alternatively, if you're more familiar with Pages, etc, you could use Keynote as the learning curve might be easier.

Spry Accordion and jQuery UI Accordion for Widget Browser

I have Dreamweaver CS5 and used the spry accordion for a left menu. I then used the widget browser and added jQuery UI accordion. But there appears to be a conflict in that the spry accordion is not displaying the white font on hover, instead using the gray font from the jQuery UI accordion.
This may be a duplicate post, I asked this question on another section of this site, if so, I do apologize. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Wiki for Persian language

Hi there
one year ago I request to open a section for Persian language (RTL) on wiki but you told me to go over archlinux.ir. there was a discussion about it in archlinux.ir but had no result.
After that I start to write about beginners guide and now it's a very complete reference in Persian for users and wanna import it in to arch wiki
Could anybody help me to open this section (I mean a Persian section with RTL support in archlinux.org wiki)?

there is no WIKI and BLOGS software for EP 7. If you need to implement EP, you will have to install netweaver 7.0 and select the EP components.

Creatinig an intranet wiki for an OS X and Windows enviroment.

I have a question about putting together and implementing a single wiki site for a school district that uses mac and windows systems. The issue I am having is I need them to be able to use one single site for this purpose. However I am sure there
is a way to do this if that was the only issue. The school is currently using the Google chrome management console for their schools. They have 1 additional school that is on a separate management console and cross "domain" merging isn't
supported by Google. The students do not have AD accounts because they use Gmail as their log in credentials to their network.
Is there anything that will allow me to create on site for them both to use and update that they will be able to access edit etc for both schools and still support both windows and mac OS X in a single site? If this is possible could someone please
point me in the right direction so that I can begin getting the groundwork down for implementing this for them. Thank you in advance for the help and information.

Wiki for home user connecting with ISP who blocks the port 80

I setup a Standalone Wiki at home with a connection to an internet router but the ISP blocks the default port 80. I'm not experienced in Advanced Server mode and wants to get it done in server preference instead of Server Admin.
I did a risky procedure by run the Admin server to tweak the Web service - change the port from 80 to 16080. And managed the users sometimes in workgroup Manager and sometimes in Server preference ->groups. It runs well in the first days but then I restart the server I found, "Not Found
404: No group with that name (mac) hosted on this server" error.
the folders were still there but the server reports this error. I attempt to delete and add in Server preference for another group but in vain. the user blog is prefect. you can try http://khszeto.dyndns.org:16080/users/

What I want is getting my old wiki group back and I can create new group.

It's likely Server Admin being referenced.
You can change the port using the Apache configuration (text) files and setting up a virtual host on an alternate port, or you can use Server Admin to set this up for you. The Apache files are pretty clear around how to do this, and SA is itself pretty easy.
I'd probably not use a direct connection into the Apache port (16000 + the "real" Apache port) for web access (when the performance cache is enabled) as the base reply here has used, I'd tend to stick to the designated port. I'd tend to use one of the "traditional" alternate ports for the web server. These can be 81, 8080 or 8000. There's no tweak for 16080, as that port is part of how Apache works when the performance cache is enabled on port 80.
The other aspect here is usually dynamic DNS, as most folks that are seeking this lack static IP address, and the lack of a static IP makes dynamic DNS a requirement for in-bound access. The IP addresses on some ISPs can shift fairly frequently. This was mentioned earlier.
And FWIW, Mac OS X Server generally wants a static IP address.
I'll leave you to deal with the terms and conditions and requirements for your ISP. Some will explicitly disallow server access. Many will monitor network traffic. Most want you to purchase static IP and related.

Wiki for OC4J and JDeveloper

I'm not sure this is the correct place for this question. But here it goes:
Is there an Wiki engine that is designed especially for oc4j? or does any of you have and wiki engine that works on oc4j?

We don't have one specifically designed for OC4J but there are several I have seen running it:
- Confluence - we are using/evaluating this a little internally for some projects at Oracle. It is a commercial offering here: http://www.atlassian.com/software/confluence/. Seems very high quality.
- Yawiki (Java version, not PHP) - we are shipping this as a free pre-certified Wiki with WebCenter, our interaction platform ala Portal for ADF developers. http://yawiki.jzonic.org/page/show.jz - we didn't want to force a commercial license on our WebCenter customers so this one is a free, reasonably solid engine.
- JSPWiki - http://www.jspwiki.org/Wiki.jsp - again I have seen this used internally at Oracle and it is running on OC4J. Again, works like a champ.
Some ideas - hope one of them works for you - hard for me to say good or bad about any as they all seem to work fine though I haven't mucked administratively with any.

BC - I would love a roadmap on this. Last october according to Bogdan's blog this was due mid 2012.
